The best thing to do when all your dreams get crushed? Pack your bags and head to London.

Kate Macon has spent her life preparing to be a teacher and six weeks into her dream come true, everything crashes and burns thanks to budget cuts and a hiring freeze. With nothing but bowls of cookie dough and Pride and Prejudice marathons to look forward to, it’s not a hard decision when her grandmother calls and invites her on a trip to London.

However, instead of being an escape from reality, London just proves to be a catalyst for bringing out the worst in Kate. All her fears, insecurities and frustration seem to be right in front of everything. And her feisty grandmother, not to mention their quick-witted tour guide, aren’t helping to lift the mood.

What could the Lord possibly be doing by causing so much havoc in Kate’s life? When everything seems to be falling apart, could it be Jesus putting things back together – but in a way Kate never could have imagined?

Grab your passport and a hot cup of coffee. This is a London adventure you won’t want to miss.

Well, I’m on Cloud 9, right now, don’t mind me. Pure happiness radiating within me after finishing this book. This much awaited, very anticipated book. I’ve been anticipating this book since the author first shared about it—I mean, if Erynn Mangum wrote it, I’m already anticipating it, but add on the plot of traveling around London for two weeks, sign me up, please. (No, seriously, I want my own Oliver.)

Kate was very worried at the beginning about a number of things that could go wrong, but it wasn’t until the middle of the book, that I realized, “oh, I’m that way too”, so I think that maybe part of the reason I enjoyed this novel, but a major factor would be the faith content shown in this book. Oliver was a doll, no questions there, but what made him really attractive was how he encouraged Kate’s walk with the Lord and was easy to discuss such topics. So, yes, you would consider this a “romance book”, but it’s one where the faith of the other person is noticed more than their body or physical appearance, and that’s what makes this author’s books stand out above the rest to me.

Hmm, yes, what else do I say? I truly enjoyed this book, I’m so happy with how it ended, It was such an enjoyable read. All the details of Kate and Gran’s London adventure make me so eager to go on my own adventure one day, so count on me rereading this book again and again. I laughed so much, the humor and banter was completely my style (just like the all the other books written by Erynn Mangum), but there was also many touching moments that made me tear up. It was very much a precious novel, and one I definitely see myself recommending for years to come. :)

Reread July 2025:
I love this story. It’s easily one of my favorite contemporary Christian stories ever. I laughed so hard. Erynn Mangum, you are so talented. The banter between Kate, Gran, and Oliver was perfection.
I also loved “revisiting” London. I really want to actually visit England. Maybe someday. I’ll probably reread this one again in the future! So good. I still want a sequel 😉

Original Review August 2023:
4.5 Tour of London ❤️🇬🇧 This book was so fun! I had wanted to read something happy, and I’m so glad I picked up this beautiful story that was full of humor, sweetness and depth.

Kate is hysterical 😂 The story is written in first person and present tense, which took me a quick minute to get used to, but her perspective made all the history and scenery that much more interesting…and often hilarious. I wanted to visit England before, but now I REALLY want to…and to read some more Jane Austen 😊

Gran and Oliver were also fantastic characters with their own shining moments. One of my fav chapters was when Gran plans the trip. Kate and Gran’s conversation had me cracking up. I also loved all her grandmotherly matchmaking. Oliver’s British whit/lingo was another “lovely” touch. Seriously, I loved these characters and wish there was a sequel to this book. **hint to the author😉** Am I the only one who always wants an epilogue to a story?!

Being such a humorous book, I am SO thankful that humor didn’t crowd out the spiritual depth. Realistic faith and growth are always my favorite parts of a well-written Christian book. 5⭐️ to the author for acing that aspect! I definitely was thinking a lot on Psalm 37–which happens to be one of my favorites—along with Kate.

The romance seemed a bit fast for me…and the end wasn’t quite how I expected it to go, but that was ok (again, I needed one more chapter!). I still absolutely enjoyed it, would recommend this book, will likely read it again, and would try other books by this author 🥰

Ahhh… this book was the cutest! 😍 I’ve been wanting to read it since it first came out, and it did not disappoint!

Kate is relatable on so many levels. Gran is a total hoot, and I love her. As for Oliver aka “Richard Armitage’s twin,” he is absolutely charming & a total sweetheart.

I love the natural way everyday faith is woven in & how Kate grows in trusting the Lord as she deals with her struggle of lost dreams & who she is without them.

So many times I laughed (and even squealed…) aloud! Such a cosy & heartwarming tale, and one I absolutely need to get a physical copy of asap!

If a plane ticket to England isn’t in the cards right now, grab a cup of tea (or 3) & travel around with Kate, Gran, and Oliver — it’s the next best thing!

Wow. I read this book a few days ago, but I wanted to be home so I could sit down and take my time with the review! I wanted to highlight every single line because it’s just THAT good! The mix of faith, romance, and plot was absolutely perfect. I loved how the romance unfolded naturally as the story progressed. And can we talk about the conversations, verse readings, and prayers??!!!

I also fell in love with the characters, especially Gran(I’d like to request one for myself if possible!😆) And then there's Oliver... 🫠I'm seriously tempted to book a trip to London in hopes of finding my own Oliver! I laughed out loud, squealed with delight, and even teared up at times.

This book has easily made it to my faves list, and I’m already anticipating reading more from this author! (Note: I’m not a movie person, so I was lost on most of the references but it didn’t affect the enjoyment of the book for me!)

Reread: SO GOOODDD! It was just as good, if not better this time around. Gosh I love these characters so much.😭❤️
I still need an epilogue though.
And an Oliver.🤪

Oh my heart!! This book is a work of art. God used Ms. Erynn Mangum to write a lovely novel that is absolutely stunning. It had me tearing up and laughing. This story of Oliver, Kate, and Gran was the best thing I’ve ever read. An absolute favorite.
But I’m a different note, where’s my cute British guy?? 👀🔎 I mean honestly
Please read this book

2024 reread:
Awww, I still love this book to death. I really needed the message in the book. My only complaint is that there isn’t more. I would love and epilogue, but I also loved what we got. AMAZING

Content: kisses (lightly detailed), hugs, mentions of Beatles, mentions of pubs (but not the drinking)

This book was about a 3.5 in my opinion, but I rounded it up to a 4:)

This was a little different than the books I normally read. It was more modern and realistic, with normal, everyday conversations. It wasn't my favorite, but it was fun and laidback, and I will probably read it again if I need a chill book to read.

I was by no means bored; I read it in about 2 days. It's not an especially short book, but it's relatively fast paced. It's written almost like a diary, with a retelling of the day's events and feelings.

Not my favorite, but I would read it again and it was definitely a cozy and enjoyable read and I would recommend it:)

P.S. I wanna go to London now, who's coming? 👀

Lovely and homey. This book is a comfort read, not too tense and with the right amount of relatability, humor, and heart, though it has its share of poignant moments. Now I want to visit England even more...

Hmmm. There are a few things I liked about this book but the bad out ways the good.

I skimmed a lot of the parts that were just lots of description about places in London so that got really boring especially since they went to new places everyday.

I liked Kate but she did get on my nerves a lot idk I just couldn't really relate to her personality or humor but her struggles were very relatable like not knowing where exactly God wants you to be.

Trust in the Lord and do good. I loved all the christian faith content in this there was a lot and it was really nice to read about it was really encouraging.

I wish the romance was better😭 falling in love with your cute British tour guide?? That sounds so romantic but it was so dry, the author could've done so much with that story line but they were bland characters with not a lot of personality and dry humor😂

And the end annoyed me still confused a little? Or maybe I wasn't paying attention idk

But if your looking for a light, christian romance story with lots of details of London you'll probably like this.

asdfghjkl omw omw THIS BOOOOK *dies* if it's any suggestion how much I loved this book I read it in one sitting.

I related to Kate so much and Gran was an absolute hoot. All of their adventures traveling around London was like a dream to read about. I mean, Westminster? Buckingham Palace? JANE AUSTEN MUSEUM?! I have like so many more places on my bucket list now....Add to that a healthy dose of quotes and fangirling about The Princess Bride and Jane Austen's books and their movies and just AHHHHH. I laughed so many times and the faith contest was spectacular.

So if I could go to London and have my tour guide be a handsome, sweet, Christian guy with a British accent to boot, um, I'd be a happy camper.

I'm obsessed. All the hearts.

I have read and owned almost all of the Erynn Mangum books, so I was over the moon excited to get the chance to review this one! I love how there’s such a balance between heart and humor. And her characters are always so relatable. Like how in this book, Kate thinks that God must like to hear British people more than Americans because their accents are just amazing! I am a sucker for accents, so I laughed out loud at this :)
Kate’s life has fallen apart. After she gets fired from her dream job and her purpose, she feels lost. So when her Gran invites her to go to London, she jumps at the chance. While London was supposed to be a grand vacation, it just seems to highlight all of the anxiety in her life. Will Kate be able to finally trust Jesus with her life or will she hold onto what she thinks her life should be?
I loved Kate's character so much! She was so relatable. She had everything figured out, and she had to learn how to take a leap of faith. I loved her relationship with her Gran too. Her Gran was hilarious! She was completely free and kind of crazy. It was cute how she was pushing Kate and Oliver together.
Oliver was a sweetheart! While I was a little bit unsure of the whole instalove thing, I think Ms. Magnum did it well. Personally, I felt like it was a little bit fast. But I can see how they were spending so much time together that it made sense. And I liked how it was clear that Kate's choices were not just for Oliver. She was following what Jesus told her to do and not just a guy. However, practically speaking I think it's always wise to get godly advice from multiple people and not to rush into decisions.
I loved this book! It was so sweet and fun, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Christian, rom coms!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

I absolutely love Erynn Mangum’s books so when I heard she was releasing a new book I was thrilled!
Mind the Gap was a great book and did not disappoint at all.
The main character, Kate, and her grandmother went on a trip to London. I thought that was a fun setting for a book. The places described sounded so fun and now London is on my long list of places to go one day. ;)
I don’t know how Erynn Mangum does it but her characters are so relatable and a lot of times they remind me of myself. Kate was no exception. She was a fun character although she did worry quite a bit and had a hard time just relaxing and just having fun and she also had a hard time trusting God with life. I could really relate to that and it was really encouraging to see Kate grow throughout the book.
Kate’s Gran was a super sweet lady. I absolutely loved her.
Then there was Oliver. He was such a nice guy. I really liked him. He was also super encouraging. Not only was he such a totally sweet and genuine guy he was really good looking too. (How do I know a book character is good looking you may ask? Well, Oliver was described as looking like John Thornton from the movie North and South!)
Mind the Gap was such a great book and I can’t wait to own a paperback copy!!
I can’t quite express how much I love this book. It was so amazing and encouraging. The ending definitely made me tear up because of how sweet and amazing it was. This is most definitely a book I will be re-reading.

This book was another amazing story from Erynn Mangum! Just like Lauren Holbrook, Kate was an
endearing, quirky, relatable character. My favorite type of book is one that not only gets me laughing, smiling, crying, and shaking my head, but also one that helps me grow in my faith along the way. Besides the fun storyline (and feeling like I had just visited London with all the details), my favourite part of the book was the use of Godly morals and scripture. This is how I live my life, filtering decisions and struggles through God's word. That's what made Kate so relatable to me. I found myself rooting for her and agreeing with Gran constantly! It is fantastic that Erynn never fails to let readers know where she stands as far as God's solid truth. I was so caught up in Kate's story, and didn't want the book to end. I sure hope there will be a sequel! Thanks, Erynn, for the free ebook and the privilege of being part of this Street Team!

This was so much fun! I feel like booking tickets to London right now!! (If only…)
Erynn Mangum’s books are just great. I’ve enjoyed all of the ones I’ve read of hers and want to read more.

This one specifically. On some levels, I totally connected with Kate. I loved the themes of learning to trust God when you don’t know what to do. That’s very relatable to my life right now. The faith discussions and bible verses were so neat.
Oliver was so sweet. He was just a great guy. Not gonna lie, I would definitely be charmed by an English accent like Kate.
And her grandma just completes the trio perfectly. It was so fun. Would definitely recommend!

The romance was pretty light and definitely clean, so I would be fine recommending to teen girls who are interested!

I wanted to like this SO badly. I used to read (and love) this author’s books, and I also just really want good Christian fiction to be a thing. This book was not it.

One, it highlighted the author’s lack of variety. Almost all (if not all) of her main characters are coffee addicts who are hyper-organized, high strung, worriers, who have a great relationship with their grandmother. Lol like basically all of them.

Two, there wasn’t really a plot. I feel like maybe the author took a trip to London and then used that entire itinerary to write this book, just filling it in with some romance? So much of the book is descriptions of the different London tourist attractions.

Three, the relationship development between the main character and the male love interest was very poor. This girl shows up to London sad, anxious, and miserable, with apparently massive under eye bags, and not much of a personality, and he falls in love with her? Immediately?

Overall, it just wasn’t good writing. The Christian aspects were often over the top and cheesy, and the story moved slowly throughout.

I found the female heroine Kate, very very funny, and so relatable.
I am somewhat ( well, maybe a LOT hahaha) like her!
I enjoyed the relationships very much,
and the Christian content.
I was just a wee bit put off by the ending,
because I wanted a definite, commitment ( as in upcoming marriage date ).
But it seemed that it would in fact, happen, in a bit more time.

I really enjoyed Erynn's earlier works, published by Nav Press, and I've hung on because they can be fun brain candy. However, since she has gone to self-publishing, the quality of her writing has drastically gone down. Her characters are all similar, ditzy coffee addicts who love Jesus, not bad but they need to stand apart from each other. Also very poor editing. She needs a strong editor, especially when self-pubbing, to get to strong sentences that show not tell. Super basic... I will try to persevere.. but no guarantees.

I've read many a book by Erynn Mangum, and most of them repeatedly (insert shout-out to the Lauren Holbrook and Maya Davis series here!). _Mind the Gap_ is hands-down my favorite book and, imho, Mangum's best yet. She absolutely outdid herself here.

It's not just the London setting, or the glorious day trips to surrounding areas (Bath!), or the Austen or Marvel or _North and South_ or Richard Armitage references. (Pardon me while I swoon. #justbeingreal) And we may have to disagree about which Knightley is more swoonworthy (it's obviously Mark Strong :D, and I might have watched that version of "Emma" last night just to reconvince myself; that's my story and I'm sticking to it). No, pair that with all the faith gems Mangum is known for and some downright conviction in my own life accordingly, and ... man. Kate and Gran might be able to take or leave Harry Potter, but I gotta say, all of the above truly combined to perfectly illustrate Golpalott's Third Law (where the sum of something is greater than its individual parts; see _Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince_ for more).

A couple phrases might have overused their welcome a tad bit (smiles not reaching their eyes, or fingers weaving together), but that's entirely small potatoes in this glorious read that brought everything I love about England back to the forefront. I've visited there multiple times (and Timehop has been reminding me my last visit was 4 years ago this week, in fact!), and _Mind the Gap_ was a blessed stand-in for travel during these wonky pandemic times.

A verse from Psalm 37 was a running theme throughout the read, and I loved how Mangum approached it from different angles and explored its applicability in life no matter one's circumstances. I particularly related to this line from Kate, about 70% of the way in: "I really hope I’m not the only person on the planet this happens to. Surely the Lord does this to more people than me, but I swear every time I’m faced with some big issue, it’s like I can’t get away from it. God uses sermons, people and the Bible to hammer it into my thick skull." I could go on, but Goodreads tells me I made 75 highlights in the book ... which makes me wonder what, exactly, I _didn't_ highlight. Ha!

I highly recommend the read (could you tell? :D) and can't wait to discuss it with fellow readers/fans.

I received a copy of the ebook from the author. All opinions are my own.

I’ve known about Erynn Mangum’s books for quite some time but never read any before this one. I’m so glad I read Mind the Gap, though, as it’s become unexaggeratedly one of my favorite books, and I expect Erynn Mangum will soon be a favorite author. My expectations for this one were moderate to high, but I ended up enjoying Mind the Gap so much more than I thought I would. The characters, humorous writing style, themes–they all combined to create the perfect light reading experience, and I was strongly reminded of one of my favorite modern authors, Robin Jones Gunn.

Characters: Kate Macon was such a well-written character, one of the most relatable I’ve found in a while. Actually, Kate probably worries more than I do, which is saying something. Oliver and Gram (the only other two characters) were almost as enjoyable. Oliver wasn’t the most outstanding hero, but I liked him and his relationship with Kate. And Gram was just hilarious.

Setting: With Mind the Gap being set in London, it’s easy to predict that the setting would become one of my favorite parts of the novel. But it exceeded my expectations with a well-researched setting that convinced me the author must have traveled in England prior to writing this book. I loved reliving my traveling days as I experienced anew the eccentricities of England, like power outlets that have to be turned on with a switch, along with Kate and her grandmother.

Style: The writing style of Mind the Gap was lovely. Kate’s narration and character voice were hilarious and added a lot to the reading experience. I do recall noticing a few typos, though.

Theme: Finally, the theme–yet another element that made Mind the Gap spectacular in my opinion. Mangum lavishly imbues this book with Christian content that, rather than feeling tacked-on, is central to the lives and personalities of the characters. I especially liked Kate’s journey to trusting God and her theme verse.

Oh. My. Word.

That was… beautiful.

Like other Erynn Mangum books it was hilarious but it was also so deep and so something I needed to read right now. I feel like God is telling me the same couple of things in many different ways through the books I’m reading. I hope it’s sinking in.

I loved this journey. Read this book. Enjoy all the Britishness and the cool tourist spots and the banter between Gran and Oliver. And through all of it, grow with Kate.

2025:

However I found something that I don’t like about Christian books in general and that is the idea that, as long as you both love Jesus, that’s all you need. It’s a nice idea and certainly important (do not be unequally yoked and all that). But I’m here to tell you that two people can love Jesus and have very different worldviews. Politically, theologically, about raising kids and medical things and more. Friends can have differences like this and it’s fine to just “both love Jesus” but a marriage will struggle and teaching kids when you don’t see eye to eye would be a nightmare. So yes, loving Jesus is the foundation but there is a lot more that two people need to agree on to make a romantic relationship work.
