Despite his best intentions, the stranger on the road changed his life forever . . .

The moment Collier Smith pulled to a stop on that rainy Tennessee mountain road and gently led the dazed, badly bruised woman into the warmth and safety of his car, his own life was shattered.

Brittany Banks was the wrong woman at the wrong time. But could there ever be a right time? He was a high-powered attorney on the fast track for a federal judgeship, engaged to a prominent socialite. Brittany Banks was a vulnerable beauty from the wrong side of town. And, in a cruel twist of fate, she was a reminder of the past he had struggled to forget. So why her, why now? Why this insatiable longing, this fierce need to protect her, to possess her -- a need that will drive him deeper into her world . . . perhaps at the cost of his own.

Mary Lynn Baxter was born on 28 July 1943 in Lufkin, Texas, USA, where she bred, home of the cowboy - hero of the Western romance, which is one of the most popular of the category's sub-genres. She would be the first to say that it's her background that gives her a unique feel for romance writing.

Since she was a young girl, books and reading have been an important part of her life. Only after she read all the "goodies" in her public library did her mother encourage her to buy Harlequin romances, then 35 cents each. Wow! Those reading years laid the background for her decision to major in Library Science at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, and become a school librarian.

After eight years of working in various school systems, she felt a need to do something different. What she wanted was to open a bookstore. With the help of her husband, Leonard, and her mother, Mary Lynn did just that. For over 20 years she sold books, and loved every minute of it. Then Mary Lynn decided she needed a new challenge. Following an intense amount of pushing and prodding from her husband she took the plunge and tried her hand at writing.

After months of agonising and chewing her nails, she finally mailed All our Tomorrows to Silhouette books in February 1981. One year later it was published as a Silhouette Special Edition. Now, over 40 books later, she's still writing. Mary Lynn can't think of anything else she'd rather do with her time and energy. She surfaces from her writing, she's a voracious reader. But this petite dynamo is always happy to tumble out of her world of fiction into her local fitness center for a bracing workout. She's also dedicated to her volunteer work... and still manages to fit in plenty of quality time with her family at their home in Lufkin, Texas.

Mary Lynn Baxter is the author to read if you enjoy contemporary romances that give one the genuine remembrance of Harlequin romances.
From review of the 1st novel that I read by Mary Lynn Baxter...
When I finished the novel (His Touch), I read the author's background.
"Mary Lynn Baxter was born on 28 July 1943 in Lufkin, Texas, USA, where she bred, home of the cowboy - hero of the Western romance, which is one of the most popular of the category's sub-genres. She would be the first to say that it's her background that gives her a unique feel for romance writing.

The only thing I was missing was the beach. This is my interpretation of a "beach book." :)

A romance novel. Brittany lives in a trailer, Collier lives on the other/nicer side of the tracks. She works in a diner, he is an attorney. Their lives intertwine in more ways then one. This book has been in a box for years and I’ve finally gotten around to reading it. It was a fine, quick, summer read.

The plot could have been great, but it was not well written. Full of over used clichés. I was often going back to reread certain parts because of disjointed ideas and writing. Not the worst book I've read, but I don't know if I would read another by this author

SPOILER ALERT**** this is a summary for my personal benefit. Please do not read if you are not interested in spoilers.
Collier Smith is up for a judge position in federal court and is somewhat engaged to a beauty. Everything in his life must remain spotless in order for him to move forward with his plan. However, an encounter with Brittany Banks makes him rethink about his life choices. He encounters her and shelters her after a brutal assault by her admirer. He is instantly attracted to her and can not stop thinking about her. Despite his belief that she is a threat to his prospective seat, he instigates an affair with her. Later, she unknowingly becomes further threat: he finds out that her brother's in jail because he was accused of driving under the influence of drugs causing an accident that resulted Collier's brother to be paraplegic.
Remember the admirer? he turns out to be very infatuated with her that he offered to help her brother provided she engages in a relationship with him. He even stated that he would be wiling to divorce his wife for her. He is also a major player in the campaign against Collier. In a sweat way, Rupert does not expose the affair between Collier and Brittany only because he feared it will affect his chances with her even though the rumor would hinder Collier's chance of obtaining the much coveted seat. However, this does not stop Rupert from exposing Collier's secret to his family.
Needless to say, his family is very much upset. But this is only the beginning of the end. Despite his family's protests, he continues to see Brittany. Soon, more begins to unravel as she learns that her brother did not get proper representation that ultimately lead to her brother's jail sentence.
Overall, it was ok. A lot of coincidences but very entertaining.
Collier, however begins to remedy this situation, but by then, she ends their affair. Of course, they miserably learn they cant live without each other.

This book was awful. Good plot but so poorly executed I am thinking this was probably Baxter's foot wetting period. I've seldom read a book where I want both parties to get the worst of whatever could possibly occur. Lord, torture to go through these pages...could not understand how this all consuming love could occur from rescuing someone, not really knowing anything about them save a touch sparks so much electricity one would believe they were in a thunder-storm. Then that scene at the diner...wth...poor confusion. Couldn't understand what transpired after C confronted the drunk diner and the girlfriend - lorse...what a mess. Such goofiness. I think this is a good example of why persons should either write what they know about best or what they've done proper research on...and that does not include looking at a show on telly. I normally enjoy Baxter's offerings but this was not a good read.

I was let down by the storyline. It started out good then it got all about "I have to see you then instant sex" over and over and over. By then middle of the book I was just ready for it to be over. The ending was really disappointing. Several different plot lines seemed to have just been forgotten or skipped over just to go right to the happer ever after type ending. One minute things seemed to have hit the fan and the next minute its over. NO resolution for several key plot points. Disappointing.

Could have done more in developing the relationship between the main character and his love interest. He behaved more like a teenage boy who could not control his hormones than a man being considered for judgeship. It started really well and I was very interested in where it would take me but very disappointed as it moved along. I am not a fan of this type of writing and don't think I will read any others written by her.

Collier Smith is on the short list for an appointment to the Supreme Court. His personal life is not so great, with an over demanding step father, a paralyzed step brother, and a girlfriend that isn't really his choice.
On the way to a mountain cabinet for a work weekend, he encounters a girl in trouble along the mountain road. How will she change his life? Lots of twists and turns in this plot.

This is the first book I've read by Baxter and I would be quick to read another of her stories. LS is a bit drawn out and you sometimes wonder if all the emotions are really necessary, but overall I really enjoyed Collier and Brittany as characters as well as their story.

First book with this author. Just OK. Nice plot, but she kept repeating herself, which I find annoying.
