A great read that you can't put down, with mystery that keeps you guessing.
The realistic mountaineering situations and the realistic problem solving give a very immersive experience. 10/10 recommend

A side note the only place I can find this book for sale was on the author's website leanewinger.com which is cool then all profits go to author.

“The Door” moves quickly, but not without richly detailing both realistic portraits of mountaineering adventure, and wonderful original fantasy elements. The narrative follows a tight mountaineer team. I loved the interactions between them and the realistic way that they address problems together. Their realistic problem solving was refreshingly believable, as were their concerns, hopes and conflicts. A well written cast. I drew particular delight from a side plot, having to do with a relationship between two of the mountaineers, which culminates in a delightfully perfect way.
I much enjoyed following the team over the mountain and then under it. What ancient wonder awaits them there? 😮😉

My husband and I were delighted to read this debut novel by Leane Winger. On one level The Door is an adventure story that combines mountaineering with elements of fantasy and mystery. On another level it's a story of friendship and making important choices in life. These work together for a satisfying read--congratulations, Leane!

I enjoyed book thoroughly. I had trouble putting it down! I enjoyed the suspense of the mystery, the human interactions and also learning a bit about mountaineering along the way too. I can’t wait for another good read from this author :-)

A deliciously diverse group of mountaineers turn Indiana Jones as they explore a clever collection of riddle rooms straight from a unique game of Dungeons & Dragons. An engaging, well-paced mystery-adventure.

An adorably wholesome adventure in friendship, mountain climbing, and *gasp* top secret government organizations?!?

Some really cool neurodiversity representation also!
