The Lone Wolf

New York Times Bestselling author Penelope Sky delivers a story filled with heartache, revenge, betrayal, and off-the-charts chemistry! Forced into an arranged marriage, Arwen and Maverick must learn to trust one another if they hope to survive.

Till death do us part.

My father married me off to one of the most powerful men in Italy.

Maverick DeVille. But I call him the wolf.

He calls me his sheep.

The arranged marriage was detested by us both, but we had to make sacrifices for the right reasons. He needed to avenge his mother and I needed protection from the mobs that want to torture me.

He's not what I pictured for my husband. He's ruthless, calloused, and cold. His walls are higher than mine. He possesses cruelty that makes him feared.

But it doesn't take long for me to respect him...even like him.

I rely on my husband more than anyone else in the world. He provides for me, protects me, and chases away all my fears.

He lets me graze in the meadow...not a care in the world.

Because the wolf is always watching.

"When people look in the darkness, they see shadows. I see monsters. And I kill the monsters that hunt my sheep."

I hated this marriage in the beginning, but now I realize how lucky I am.

How lucky I am to be the sheep the wolf protects...and doesn't eat.

This was a complex story and definitely not your average love story. I enjoyed the character growth and the ending was sweet

You remember how in 2010 every KU romance was three books minimum about the same characters with cliffhangers and the most unhinged toxic relationship? Not a happy ending in sight. And sometimes … that’s just what you need.

Could I delve into this books flaws … sure. Could I write a thesis on HEA cheesy epilogue babies is the new three book cliffhangers? You betcha.

But honestly at the end it felt like a journey and if it was 2010 I would have paid $1.99 a credit to get the next book so Penelope is doing something right.

GET A MAN WHO WOULD PLAY RUSSIAN ROULETTE TO SAVE YOU!!
This series is nice one time read where romance is sole focus with mafia plot and marriage of convenience with sassy female lead and poker face hero. Eventhough the romance was not ground breaking the execution was way better, banter was quiet interesting, relationship development was seen from start of the books, both characters were truly good throughout the series, plot was not at all boring and cheating was part which surprisingly i didn't mind.
I liked third book in the series way more just coz the hero after fucking up things was truly trying to get his woman back ......and really did sweet things throughout the book.

The Wolf and The Sheep - What is a girl to do when her father arranges her marriage in order to save her life? In thew case of Arwen, she goes into the marriage with Maverick with her eyes wide open and her backbone straight. Unfortunately when you make enemies based on your pride with your tyrant of father in law all bets of safety are off. Can Arwen and Maverick find their way out of the darkness? Or will family pride bite them in the end? Once again Penelope Sky creates characters we love to hate and storylines that we cannot put down. This new trilogy has started off with a bang and I cannot wait for the next installment.
The Wolf and His Wife - Although forced into the marriage, in this second installment of the series, Arwen and Maverick's emotions are intertwining and they are getting closer and closer to a real marriage. The bond between father and son is shattered when Kamikaze finds out the marriage is a farce. But one bullet sends the lovers on a whirlwind and secrets are revealed - but not all secrets make a marriage worth fighting for. Can the two figure things out? Or is this just a marriage set to destroy everything? With a storyline that had me on the edge of my seat and characters a cannot help but fall in love with, this once again is another win for Penelope Sky. I need the next book now!!
The Lone Wolf - At the end of the last book, Maverick and Arwen were over. Divorce was imminent and hatred had begun. I hated Maverick for putting her through this and would have slapped him myself if I could. But can love conquer all? Will Maverick be able to redeem himself and win the love of Arwen? Does he even love her? Will Caspian kill her and put them both out of their misery? All of these questions will be answered in a complete emotional and sometime scary storyline. Once again Penelope Sky takes the reader on a roller coaster ride that I personally never want to get off of. Loved this series and cannot wait for the next masterpiece.

Due to poor editing throughout the 3 books, I am unable to award a well deserved 5-star rating. It wounds me when I have to be harsh with an author I truly enjoy. I loved the premise for this series, and the original elements Sky included in the overarching storyline.

She set it in Italy with a mafia piece, but only as an explanation for the actions of some of the characters. Sky wrote her two main characters as an arranged marriage, but with parental motivations different than other mafia stories. In addition, the two marriage participants, Maverick and Arwen, feel extreme hostility towards each other to the extent that I felt repugnance for Arwen myself. Over and over, Sky tweaked the standard trope to add her own highlights to the story. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read from a content point of view.

I only reported errors in mechanics from the third book, which actually had less than the first two books.

This series was really good. I never had read her books before and I got this series free on ku and it didn't disppoint. The daughter name is Arwen and she is strong independent women and opera singer and when she us told she has to marry maverick fir protection cause her father wasted all their money to dangerous man and he is dying she throws a fit and hates her life. The story is filled with hate, love, banter and action I highly recommend this series

Unputdownable

This three part series kept me intrigued from page 1 . On the edge of my seat , curious , and even anxious as to where the author was taking us .

I loved the suspense, the slow romance, the way the author built the characters , I was invested from the first pages .

Will be def reading more from this author . I loved her strong female characters , her assxxxhole male characters and when the villains .

Absolutely loved this series!

I thought this story was phenomenal. I usually don't go for arranged marriages but this drew me in right away. I LOVED how strong Arwen is and didn't put up with the BS. And book 3... I'm so happy she stuck her ground. I want a 2nd epilogue with the babies!

Loved it

I loved this trilogy! It started with two people who had to get married because of circumstance that turned into love. With a staggering amount of bumps in the road and one frustrated with who had enough. Then learned to forgive after he put himself second after her wants. He learned it wasn't weak to love some one.
This is such a fantastic read!! Loved loved it

Rarely do I like a story that has more than one book. When I have to dip into the series to find out what happened I sulk. But this one I dipped in. Read all the way through. Loved all of the characters, the story line, the battles, the intrigue. The brooding, sexy, mafia type billionaire asshole and the simmering beauty that could give a shit about money or fame. A recipe to relish in.

Maverick!

This was a wonderfully enthralling series. Wolf and Argentina are forced to marry each other which leads to crazy drama with serious cheating plus lots of sexy scenes. Very raw and gritty!

A really good storey which felt like a rollercoaster bit im a good way. It was funny to read how the writer (American) tried to use European terms like euro but sometimes she like forgot the story took place in Italy. “Bucks” and “pound” and “inches” were used very often.

My second read!!!

I read book 1 & 2 in 2023 but thought I didn't, so I got the complete series from KU. It's a great read. The author, Penelope Sky/Bersetti is the best.

I think this was one of the best book in the arranged marriage, enemies to lovers trope.
I was looking for a good grovel book when this one was recommended to me.
Maverick and Arwen hated each other from the beginning of their marriage but gradually find friendship in each other, then falling in love.
I liked it because Arwen is not the typical heroine without a backbone. Although she shows vulnerability, she also has a steel spine and stands for herself without body betrayal syndrome.
The reason it's not a four or five star is because I don't really enjoy the writing style and some conversation make me cringe.

Je me suis un peu emballée, lire ces 3 tomes d’affilée m’a procuré une sensation de longueur, j’avais hâte que ça se termine bien que la romance soit très bien écrite et intéressante.

The Wolf and His Sheep - 3 stars
1. Maverick seemed very proud of the fact that their business had been in the family for at least 10 generations. Who did he expect to pass the business to if he didn’t plan to have any children with Arwen?
2. In the beginning of the book, these were Maverick's thoughts about one of his many women, "But I wouldn't allow her to stay. No one was allowed to stay." However, throughout the book, he had women spending the night and even showing up for breakfast.
3. I don't believe a professional opera singer would smoke cigars.
4. Maverick was supposed to be so “alpha” but he let his father push him around like a child.
5. Maverick knew that people were going to be after Arwen. He married her specifically to protect her and told her more than once not to worry, that he would keep her safe and he promised that nothing would ever happen to her. Yet, she had no security detail and a lot of the time, he didn’t even know where she was and didn’t bother to ask.

The Wolf and His Wife - 5 stars
1. If Arwen was so insanely gorgeous, why didn’t she have more men pursuing her?
2. Didn’t Arwen learn anything the first time she went behind Maverick’s back?
3. Despite the fact that Kamikaze and Caspian both threatened to kill Arwen, Maverick didn't even consider security for her until AFTER Kamikaze attacked her and tried to rape her. 🙄

The Lone Wolf - 2 stars
1. Even after Maverick apologized to Arwen for cheating on her, he still told her that her sleeping with someone else after she filed for divorce and him sleeping with two women in their home while they were together were the same thing and made them even. 🤬
2. When Sabrina kept hitting on Maverick, he would say, “I’m married.” He should have said, “I don’t want you.” And, he should NOT have invited her to their Xmas party. 🤬
3. Where the f#%k did Kent get off telling Arwen to “Just let it go.”???? 🤬
4. Maverick was still an a$$hole. After Arwen finally forgave him and they reconciled, these were his thoughts, “Sex with my wife was the best I ever had. I didn’t want to be a monogamous man hard up for a single woman. I didn’t want the commitment, the mediocre fidelity. But, I was happiest with Arwen.” So … he didn’t really want to be married to her or to be monogamous; he was only doing it because the sex was good??? 🤬

So many people recommended this book and said it had the best “groveling” from the H but frankly, I don’t see it. To me, when the H forces his way back into the h’s life instead of earning it, that is the exact opposite of groveling. In this book, when Caspian threatened Arwen's life again and she needed to move back home for protection and Maverick said he would only let her if she agreed to give their marriage another chance … that was as bad as the original betrayal.

Total - 3 stars
