Best. Midlife crisis. Ever. When turning fifty brings a mind-bending magical awakening, Grace buckles up for the ride.
Grace Littleton is in a rut. She’s out of work, grumpy, and angry with her no-good ex. In short, she’s got a serious case of the ‘blahs’.
On her fiftieth b-day, she blows out the candles and makes a wish for change… which alters the course of her life from then on.
As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for!
Now there’s no more rut. No more foul mood. No more blahs.
Instead, Grace finds herself in a secret paranormal village in the midst of a murder case. The locals seem to think she’s the best person to solve it—even though she’s a trained nurse, not a detective. They’re either nuts, or they see something in her that she’s never acknowledged in herself.
She also has to get used to her new witchy neighbors, a telepathic connection with her dog, and the cursed bear on her tail… all while catching a killer.
It’s time for Grace to step into her own power—if she dares.
For fans of paranormal women’s fiction and witch cozy mysteries—a combination of midlife self-discovery, magic, and murder!
Five full-length novels in one binge-worthy collection. Book #1: Post-op and Potions Book #2: Surgery and Spells Book #3: Broken Bones and Botany Book #4: Clinics and Curses Book #5 Forensics and Familiars
Such a lovely series with an introvert MC who honors her own need for downtime while also being open to new experiences and new relationships that unfold at a thoughtful pace.
Book 1 Post-op and Potions - Wonderful new series! I love that the main character, Grace, is somewhat older than your average cozy mystery protagonist: 50. She asks for change. Things can only get better, right? She wants more. Well, and change is what she gets! Change isn’t always bad. And in Grace’s case: life certainly gets more interesting! And such fun to read about! Hypnotized squirrels, can you imagine? LOL! As always, Anderson mixes fun and lightheartedness with life lessons and depth. The result is a true gem! I’m in love with this wonderful new series!
Book 2 Surgery and Spells - Wonderful book! Anderson is brilliant at, well, all aspects of the book, really. The characters are great, and I find myself easily connecting. It’s so pleasant to read about women closer to my own age. The story is amazing too, and the writing style I love! The kind of book you can’t put down!
Book 3 Broken Bones and Botany - Breathtakingly brilliant and blissful! I have read every book that Anderson ever released, and I have loved every single one. But this one might just be my favorite. Maybe it’s because I fell in love with the characters; they are so likeable and relatable. Maybe it’s because this cold case made me feel warm. Maybe it’s because I love this new trend of slightly older main characters and Grace just strikes a chord with me. Maybe it’s because the fun writing style allows me to completely and fully escape. Maybe it’s just everything, the mystery, the characters, the setting, the magic. But I definitely loved it from start to finish! A lighthearted read that I would recommend to every paracozy lover!
Book 4 Clinics and Curses - Another Excellent book! Excellent with a capital E! I fell in love with the characters even more than I already had before. I love Lucky and Grace together! It has become one of my favorite series out there! If you need a laugh, then start this series now.
Book 5 Forensics and Familiars - Another great installment! After the previous 4 reviews, I think you get the picture. There’s nothing left to say, really. Just: go and get this box set if you like Paranormal Women’s Fiction Mysteries!
Fun mystery stories with humor, depth and interesting, quirky characters
Each of these stories drew me in and made me care about Grace (nurse & sleuth), kindly Dr. Ham, Ben (baker extraordinaire & Grace’s boyfriend) and Tenley (Grace’s friend & neighbor). The characters in the village are varied, interesting and believable, and the stories of Grace’s getting to know the people in her new community are interesting and believable. In the same way, the dogs and other pets are wonderfully portrayed with their own personalities. The humor is gentle, the wisdom deep.
The mystery in each book unfolds at a steady pace as seemingly unrelated clues lead Grace to question more people, search locations, build timelines, identify more questions, gather more information, find discrepancies, re-evaluate the clues, explore possible explanations, test the truth of the information given her, and so on, until the mystery is finally solved. The answers make sense when they're revealed though I couldn't have figured them out myself. Satisfyingly, each clue has its place in the final resolution, whether it leads to the murderer or helps reveal another piece of the full puzzle.
Central to Grace’s mystery-solving process is her dog Lucky, who provides Grace with loving companionship, support, interesting clues, opinions, and thoughtful questions. The telepathic communication they have brings their relationship to life, showcasing Lucky’s personality, loyalty, observations, and delightful life as a much loved pet. :-)
The love between human and dog is deep and fun to read about. The dogs' relationships with each other are fun and believable. Seeing the simple, straightforward ways that dogs experience life was wonderful and an interesting contrast with their owners perspectives.
One of Grace’s journeys is discovering the role of intuitive/psychic abilities in life at Covenstead and her own, unexpected abilities. The people of the village use these abilities for the good of all. The covens work together to grow nourishing crops and keep the natural world around them healthy and balanced. The village also has a Peace Keeping Council and a Manifesting Council. These intuitive/psychic elements are wonderfully depicted and integral to each story. Grace’s evolving understanding of life is enriched by them.
This is the first half of this latest series by Amorette about a woman who has reached a midlife crises in her life and wishes for a change! She discovers a flyer which appeals to her of an opportunity to “ start over” so to speak in her field but not being a traveling nurse anymore but one who stays in one place. She travels to the town and finds it is magical literally as the whole town is full of witches but the good kind for the most part. She finds that here in this “magical” town she is able to converse telepathically with her dog and is also tasked with being the town sleuth to solve murders and other disturbances in the town.
This is a great way to have this series right at your fingertips to revisit Covenstead whenever you want! I’m sure the final five books will be out in a box set shorty so instead of having 10 books to read and keep track of you’ll only have 2 box sets! How convenient!!
I recommend you take this prescription for fun, adventure and just a good time as you discover a town with large produce that will blow you away and the charm of a small town that will “grow” on you as you read this series! Like Grace you’ll feel you’ve finally “come home”!
Grace Littleton is a travelling RN (registered nurse) who's just split up with her boyfriend, has little contact with her son, has just turned 50... and is hankering after a change.
When she finds a job advert for a nursing post in a small Vermont town, she decides to go for it and, accompanied by her faithful and delightful pit bull, Lucky, makes the trek to Covenstead. Will this be the change she was hoping for? Well, you'll need to read the books to find out - I don't do spoilers - but I can say the following: the writing, whether descriptive or storytelling, is a joy to read; the characters, especially Grace, behave and feel like real people; the setting is chock-full of rustic, countryside delights, of which, seeing I grew up deep in the countryside, I can attest to the perfect descriptive accuracy in Amorette's prose; and the whole is, literally, magical!
If your looking for a great book series this is the one for you
I bought book one in this series and was enchanted by Grace and Luckys story. I wanted more! I bought the first box set them the second. An unusual take on witch and familiar relationship. A great setting in a magical community. Watching them both develop over a series of five books has been an amazing journey. Grace suddenly had a birthday wish ranted and finds herself not only a witch living in a magical community but discovering her own magical powers. This sometimes puts her and her fur babies lives in danger hunting down the shady side of her little town. An enjoyable well written set of books. Looking forward to reading my next boxset.
This is a very unique and very adorable paranormal cozy mystery. I loved reading all the stories. I have read so many paranormal cozy mysteries but never came across the concept of rehabilitation with love for the murderers/ criminals. I admire the idea of giving those individuals a second chance to reform. Crimes are sometimes committed in a fit of rage. The perpetrators may regret their momentarily taken poor decision. Right from the first book till the fifth one, I never found a dull moment. Grace Littleton and her pet dog or familiar Lucky are adorable characters. Highly recommend it for reading.
I have read each of these books as they were released and have posted a review for each one on Goodreads. I have thoroughly enjoyed this newest series by Amorette Anderson. She has created an environment that keeps everyone "on their toes" from one wild caper to another. The characters are quite zany and will give you a laugh or two as each crime is studied, torn apart, and then restructured again. A truly delightful read at an absolutely amazing price! I did purchase a copy of this box set and this is my voluntary and honest review with my own personal opinions.
Thoroughly enjoying these books. This light hearted, midlife women’s paranormal series is perfect feel good escapism. Found myself drawn back to reading these books (even when I was supposed to be doing other things 😂) I loved that the main characters are 50+, still full of life and with the wisdom of life experiences to guide them (or trip them up!) - making them very relatable!
The magic is woven in naturally as are the new residents reactions to this unexpected bonus to living in this enchanting village and their own gifts!
Grace and her familiar, Lucky have a new neighbour. Thus begins one of Grace's adventures into a murder in the next town. Twenty adopts and murdered victi 's dog and together they start to investigate this happening. Great story with lots of characters who could have been responsible for the murder. Will you guessing "who dun it"? Do read it and see if you are a super sleuth too.
Enjoyed the whole set. Well-written, mysteries that keep you guessing until the end. You get to know many of the people in this small, hidden town. And I love Grace. She's thrown into this new world but quickly adapts . As an introvert, she seems very believeable. Very gentle and sweet world, a little mild romance.
While younger readers might want to get their letters to Hogwarts, I'm hoping for the manifesting council to summon me to Covenstead! Amorette Anderson has created an incredible magical town full of amazing characters, and even if I found the mysteries a bit too simple at times and the main character a bit too obtuse, the overall experience as been utterly pleasant. Highly recommended!
A bit of fun and an interesting look at a magical village in our era. I find it a relatively relaxing series to read. But I prefer a harder edged storyline , good for older people.
What an enjoyable series of books that will help you to escape to a magical village. There is magic, friendship, a little romance, murder and let's that communicate with their owners. Will read more.
When I first started this series i was not sure what to expect. The idea behind the story is an interesting one and the author kept me engaged through all five books. I came to love the characters and felt as though I knew them. I even picked up some ideas on how to better read people.
A lovely cosy mystery set involving mature adults and some “real life” experiences. I thoroughly recommend relaxing in bed or on a gloomy day and spending some time in this magical world.
I love this series. I've read and reviewed each one at the time of its publication but you don't have to wait for them to come out. Here are the first five in a box set. You can go from one to the next without having to wait for any to be published. You will be glad, too, to buy them this way.
It’s nice to read something that’s age appropriate and wholesome. Added in is a dash of mystery and a spot or two of whimsy and you have a truly lovely read.
I really enjoyed reading and envisioning these stories. The characters were interesting and the town was truly imaginarly divine. I personally related to these stories in a very fun way.
Great box set of cosy murder mysteries. A town that's just a little strange and no one eats meat. All are Vega table eaters. But murder is on the horizon. And a nice romance is in the making.
I feel like I'm ready for a change after reading these books. Midlife can be just a beginning of new things to explore. It's never too late for life changes and Grace did it twice!
Loved this box set, another great set of mysteries that are a must read. Look forward to reading more page turning mysteries. I've been reading this author's books and just love them and well they make a good escape too.
oh my gosh... the perfect town for a new life... even with the adventures it's somewhere you can dream about... so much fun learning about everyone and how things work
I loved reading each and everyone of this wonderful stories by author Amorette Anderson. Each one is unique and exciting to read. Wonderful set of books....
This is a wonderful series. Highly recommended and highly enjoyable. If you love stories about living in a magical town, your going to love this series.
In the top five cozy series for me. The hard-to-find Covenstead is home to some of the best characters I've ever met. Check it out, now in this convenient box set!
