I bought this for my partner when we found out we were expecting after reading many reviews of similar books. I have to say this has been an amazing guide for my partner & I’ll be recommending it to all my friends when the time comes. It’s broken down into a week-by-week guide of a few pages, so never too much overwhelming info. My partner has enjoyed being able to understand my symptoms etc each week and knowing what’s going on with our baby! Every week he has read out the pages to me & we’ve discussed them & how I’ve been feeling - I feel it’s bought us even closer together and allowed him to feel more involved in the pregnancy stage as he really understands what I’m going through! This book continues through the first year, so hopefully that will be just as helpful
I have loved having Chris read this too me each week of our pregnancy! It has been great knowing what has been happening and hearing from other Dads of what to expect. 10/10 recommend it for any soon to be Dad.
This was a fantastic book to read. To the point, concise, funny at times, full of good and valuable explanations, rich in recommendations and heads up while at the same time not imposing any preferable ways on how to deal with pregnancy or the baby.
This book is honestly fantastic. The way it's structured was quite intelligent. You won't only read the first steps before pregnancy, but you will walk through week by week on the progress of pregnancy, all facts to know, all possible effects on the mum and dad to be and will even walk you through the first year of the baby after pregnancy.
The way each chapter was structured was fantastic. During the pregnancy chapters, you walk through all the relevant facts you are meant to know in terms of the miracle that is growing a baby inside, the toll it can take on women, but also dedicating a few pages for the dad himself. Rich in advices on how best to deal with the pregnant woman (whether your wife or not) and how to deal with your emotions and - most importantly- being aware of them, preparing you and being honest on how you will feel, making it an honest step by step guide and showing how pregnancy not only is a journey for the mum but also for the dad.
Each chapter has real life dads mini tales of their own experience at each point of the pregnancy, and found so many good tips and heads up of what's likely to happen to you too.
Not only dad, but women should not be deterred from buying this book as well, it's very much about them and what's happening inside of them, and would probably help to understand how their husbands might feel along the way. So in my opinion, it's not just for dads, but also for mums.
In my case, I've been going through surrogacy with my partner, so the all the advises on the book have had a double point for us as both will be dads. But it was fantastic to get to know all the facts, conditions, terms to know, and the step by step, preparing you on how to best deal with pregnancy at every week stage of it, but also how to best be prepared for what's to come soon.
For those using surrogacy, I would advise to make sure you get this book, but also maybe some books relating to surrogacy 100%, as this book is dedicated to the pregnancy itself and the mum and dad to be. So you might want to compliment this book with another one dedicated to surrogacy journey.
If there's one thing thing I would scrap form the book, was the COVID approach throughout the book. While minimal, and in some places non-existing, it felt at times that it was cristal clear the book had been written during lockdowns, and there were plenty of lines or paragraphs written from the COVID perspective, on how it could affect you and what it could mean going through the down side of COVID world. Considering that COVID is not a big thing anymore, although still very much real, I would probably recommend to rewrite those areas focused to the pandemic, as they are no longer relevant, and make them even more minimal.
Still, I could have not been happier to have bought and read this book and I would give it 6 stars if I could. I will definitely recommend to anyone around me who's intending to become a dad or mum.
When I found out I was going to be a dad, I read everything I could get my hands on. Most of it was a waste of my time. They all covered the biology of what was happening, but I learned that stuff in middle school health class. And they all made it seem like I wasn’t an important part of what was happening. You’re Going to be a Dad! Is different in a few ways. First, it makes dads the focus. That’s not to say it ignores mom and baby, but it is definitely for dads. Second, it goes beyond the biology and diet tips (although those are there, too) and actually talks about what feelings come up. Third, it includes a section on the first year of being a parent. If I have a couple of quibbles its that I would have liked more on the first year and a bit less COVID. Hopefully these past two years were unusual and don’t need to be central to a guide for dads. It is easy to read, and the reflections from real dads are fun. Plus, they have a whole DaddiLife ecosystem online because they know that they journey doesn’t stop in the delivery room.
