The Chimera Affair

Rate this book
His mission was seduction—not falling in love.

When young Sebastian Brambani meets a sexy and exciting older man, he’s easily seduced. But for spy Kyle Grant, it’s all business. Sebastian is simply a pawn in Kyle’s mission to acquire a dangerous chemical weapon from Sebastian’s criminal father. Kyle’s life is his work for a shadowy international agency protecting the world from evil, and he can’t worry about what will happen to Sebastian when the job is done.

Sebastian’s unwitting role in Kyle’s plan is the last straw for his ruthless father, who has been embarrassed by his gay son for the last time. But when Kyle discovers Sebastian could be the key to finding the deadly Chimera, he rescues him from his father's hitman and fights to keep him alive. Can a hardened spy and naïve college student take down a criminal kingpin, stay one step ahead of the killers on their trail—and fight the scorching attraction between them?

This gay romance from Keira Andrews features sexy spies, an age difference, a sheltered and passionate virgin, action and adventure, and of course a happy ending.

BONUS STORY INCLUDED: The Argentine Seduction, a sequel for Kyle and Sebastian featuring unexpected jealousy, protectiveness, and a dangerous mission in the simmering heat of Buenos Aires. (And of course a happy ending!)

The Chimera Affair and The Argentine Seduction were previously published by Loose Id in 2012 and 2013.

You want thrills? Chills? Action suspense with a good dose of violence along with some hot smexy? Whelp. Then this is it.

If you want something serious, with a realistic progression and vibe, you’re not gonna get it here.

Yes, jaded well seasoned spy Kyle, who’s at the top of his game, suddenly develops a conscience over his pretty mark Sebastian. Instead of moving on, he saves the young man from death and hence, starts a chain reaction as everything goes to absolute hell. Ensue roadblocks and challenges and multiple murderous attempts on their lives as they unsuccessfully fight their attraction and fall hard for the each other, all the while trying to stop a deadly weapon from being sold to the highest bidder.

This would typically be right up my alley. However, the fast pace in which Kyle and Sebastian’s lustful urges were satisfied was just too speedy for my liking, as they’re often overwhelmed with each other when they should be on high alert from the bad guys. Oh well. This definitely never lost steam in the dangerous situations nor the sexy moments they grab at all times possible. Why am I complaining again?

Anyhoo, if that’s what one wants, this definitely fits the bill. Apparently, I wanted something more grounded in reality instead of the fun James Bond-esque romp that this was and thus, I didn’t click with it as much as I wanted to. It scratched the itch but unfortunately, won’t go down as a favorite.

Action, adventure, glitz and glamor, Italian locales, espionage and swoon worthy romance!!! Come to mama!

If you're like me and love a good Bond flick then this book is for you. It's action packed complete with a cliffside car chase, nefarious bad guys, a plot to destroy the world that must be foiled, gun fights and even a battle atop a moving train!

In other words, CRAZY, STUPID FUN!

We start our journey in Italy at a swank party on the Brambini estate at Lago di Como where we meet Sebastian, a virgin who's reluctantly gay and trying to tow the line, because his conservative Italian father, who's an arms dealing psycho, is not trying to have a gay son.

However, The Association already has this little tidbit of info and "Steven McBride" uses it to his advantage to seduce Sebastian into unlocking his father's office so he can lift The Chimera.

And we're off!

From that point on it's non-stop action. Just when you think you can maybe catch your breath, something else happens. Obviously, I loved all the action but I also loved these two characters.

"Steven" is actually Kyle who's been in The Association for awhile now and is older than Sebastian. Kyle is a little bit gruff, devoted to the job and not interested in anything long term.

Until Sebastian.

Sebastian gets under his skin and makes him crazy. He keeps trying to convince himself that he's no good for him, that it can't last, that the job's more important, blah, blah, blah.

Doesn't work.

Their chemistry is NEXT LEVEL. The sex is devastatingly hot full of passion and raw. They also seem to have a thing for shower sex. *grunts*

He felt as if he was being fucked out of his skin, and when Kyle took hold of his cock, Sebastian came, shooting all over the counter, even up onto the mirror as Kyle continued ramming him.

This story takes place over the course of about a week and I completely bought into them as a couple with a future in that short amount of time. Their relationship/connection was obvious and transcends their physical attraction.

Thrust into an taxing situation after finding out his father is a criminal and on the run with a spy he doesn't trust, Sebastian handles everything with panache, never becoming overwrought. He may be young but he matches Kyle perfectly. He handles himself well, thinks on his feet and even surprised Kyle a time or two with his resourcefulness.

I like that. Andrews did a fantastic job of depicting him as inexperienced but not incapable.

The Argentine Seduction is added at the end of this edition and gives a glimpse of them a few months after the end of The Chimera Affair. They are still going strong and continue to have a penchant for wet sexy times. This time in public. In a rain storm. #deceased

This is going on my favorites list and will likely be reread. Recommend to ERRRRRRYYYYYONE fans of May/Dec, romantic suspense or Keira's calling card (sexual discovery) romance readers.

Also, I ain't too proud to beg for more from this series. I am now legit sad and struggling to find something to fill the hole Kyle and Sebastian have left. 🙇🏻‍♀️🙏

This was so much fun! I love a good spy book and this one didn't disappoint. I am really hoping Ms. Andrews continues with these men and this becomes a series.

Sebastian is a genius with numbers, has a knack for cracking codes, young and a bit naïve, gay and a virgin. He's the perfect victim for Kyle to seduce.

Sebastian is in a lot of trouble with his father when he is seen in pictures with another boy in a not so PG way. His father pays the boy to go away and brings his son home and refuses to let him go back and see's Sebastian as only a disappointment.

Kyle is a spy sent by the Association to seduce the young Sebastian in order to get access to his father's terrorists weapon called, Chimera. The seduction was easy but things didn't go to plan when Kyle realizes the Chimera wasn't where it was supposed to have been.

Sebastian was easily taken in by the older man and soon feels foolish when he realizes unbeknownst to him that he played a role in helping Kyle steal from his father. When his father realizes the same thing he deems Sebastian more trouble then he is worth and has his goons take him away to be killed.

Kyle is disappointed that he has failed the mission. It's the third one and he is hell bent on not letting this one go until he has collected the Chimera. So when he hears about the young man he seduced is going to be killed he swoops in to save the attractive young mans life in hopes he can be of some help.

The book is fast paced with lots of action and some steamy sex scenes. It's also funny with great MC's that are likable and enjoyable to read about. I liked that although Sebastian wasn't the killing kind he had no problem jumping in where he was needed and took down the baddies. Kyle tried to keep the walls up and not let the young Sebastian over them, but the more time they were together the faster those walls seemed to crumble.

Loved it and can't wait to see if the author continues with these men. I really hope she does.

Happy reading dolls!

Sebastiano and Kyle. What a couple, wow.

Sebastiano is the shy, gay son of a Mafia boss who doesn't even know that his father is dealing in shady business on the side.

Kyle is a spy who is on a mission to intercept a dangerous bio weapon (called 'Chimera') before Sebastiano's dad has a chance to sell it to terrorists.

Kyle uses Sebastiano to reach his goal, but soon finds himself having uncomfortable, soft feelings for the young guy.

And Sebastiano isn't exactly a damsel in distress either.

Their road to happiness is an action filled one with typical spy movie stuff (parachute jumps, train roof fights, lots of blood and killing), PLUS surprisingly uninhibited sex, considering Sebastiano presents himself as a shy and nerdy virgin.

All in all, definitely entertaining and a bit of an alternative romance.

4 stars!

I didn't have a good time reading the last few M/M romance titles and felt slightly burn out with what this genre could offer. So, I was a bit weary when I picked up this title, for two reasons. One, I never read anything by Keira Andrews (so, she's a new author for me). Two, I'm not big on spy stories.

Turns out that this story packs a punch and delivers WAY beyond my expectation. It's true that I'm not big on spy stories -- but there are some spy movies I love, Casino Royale (Daniel Craig, yumm!!) and The Bourne Trilogies to name a few. I can say that personally, I think this story falls in that line of movies.

Officially, Kyle Grant is seducing Sebastian Brambani to steal the Chimera (it's a powder that when mixed with water, it creates a gas more deathly than napalm) from Sebastian's dad. But when Kyle finds out that Sebastian could be killed because of his (albeit unwittingly) role of helping him, Kyle decides to help Sebastian.

I LOOOOVE how Kyle first start seeing Sebastian as a tool but then slowly falls in love with the younger man. The chemistry is surely there, and it is great to read how each man slowly becomes important for the other. The part where Kyle tells Sebastian his feeling is an "awwww" moment :). Sebastian might be young, but I also love how he grows spine -- first being so naive but realizes the evil of his dad and learns to fight, and not just be a 'kidnapped' victim.

The story is a page turner -- it packs with action, and twists and turns that worth a movie script. The story takes place in several European cities, along with some 'road trips' using train and car ... and I can imagine it in my mind so vividly (even if I never visit those cities, but watching Hollywood movies help *lol*).

It delivers excitement that I don't get from the last few m/m romance titles (or even m/f urban fantasy) that I read. It feels fresh and different. In fact, after I finish the story, I end up watching Casino Royale again because I want to feel that thrill. It's just the right story for my current mood.

A definite winner!

Well, wasn’t it a really entertaining spy story laced with the perfect amount of hotness ? And it’s written by Keira Andrews, another good reason to enjoy the ride : read this one the same way you would watch a James Bond movie, ie because you're looking for a nice distraction and having a good time.

Sebastien is a 20 year-old math student and son of an Italian mobster, quite upset when discovering his son is gay. During a party, Sebastien meets a very sexy guest and unwillingly helps him to access his father’s safe. Thus begins the partnership of Sebastien and the sexy spy Kyle, having to escape the wrath of the mobsters and save the world against terrorists while cruising around Europe.

It’s fast-paced and with a perfect combination between action and very hot moments, and a strong chemistry between Sebastian, naïve but not to be underestimated and Kyle, seasoned agent who is so ready to bend the rules to protect his guy, despite his better judgement.

As expected, this was another well-written and well-paced story by Keira Andrews. Unfortunately, I didn’t find myself as engaged by the plot or the characters as much as I would have hoped to be while reading a book from a long-time favourite author.

I truly felt disconnected here. Where I usually love M/M romances featuring high stakes espionage plots and enemies-to-lovers vibes, with lots of intimate moments that level out the action and excitement, for some unfathomable reason, this story just didn’t grab me.

I think I had trouble with two specific things…

Firstly, I didn’t much like Kyle as a lead character. He rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn’t quite put my finger on the why or how of it. I did, however, like sweet and resilient Sebastian, very, very much. He helped level out my more negative feelings and helped me warm, ever so slightly, to Kyle as they grew closer and became lovers.

Secondly, the whole deal with The Association just felt off to me. I love my fair share of action films and thriller books, but even my ability to suspend disbelief was pushed to the limits here. It was just a bit too unrealistic and a little too unclear on the details for me to throw myself fully into this plot.

Ultimately, this had all the elements of a great story, I just wasn’t wowed by it like I should have been.

How have I not read this book before now? Seriously. I consider myself a pretty hard core Keira Andrews fan girl. Maybe I skipped over it because the cover didn't really reach out and grab me. Well, not anymore. Thanks to a re-release and a gorgeous new cover, this one jumped to the top of my TBR.

And I loved it!! I knew from their first meeting that Sebastian and Kyle had some serious chemistry. And the attraction just kept getting hotter. I loved that seasoned spy Kyle just could not keep his head in the game because he was so attracted to math whiz Sebastian. And I loved what a surprise badass Sebastian turned out to be. I'm not sure which of them had me swooning more, LOL!

I was totally engrossed in reading this. Very fast paced, lots of action. 5 stars!!!

Loved it. Seriously, it's been such a long time since I've read a good action-oriented book (let alone a good MM action book) that I've forgotten what they're supposed to be like. And this one was fantastic. It's a very cinematic little spy caper through Europe, and it's so good. Or maybe it's not good and I'm just blinded by how much I liked it. The writing is great, the pacing is fantastic, I even liked the characters, and it was all very exciting. I didn't want it to end. But of course, it did. So now I'm demanding a sequel. I think Keira Andrews has a new fan.

And action....

Action-packed and fast paced thriller with too many sex scenes interrupting the flow.
One of those books where the characters could be put through the meat grinder and they would still fuck like bunnies.
Enjoyable when disbelief got thrown out of the window...with oomph! ;-)

Bisexual JamesBondEthanHuntJasonBourne teams up with blond Italian twink. That actually makes the story sound more...edgy? different? than it is. But Andrews is a skillful writer, and she crafts a solid espionage thriller that manages to entertain though it does not step outside the familiar genre lines at all (it literally includes a chase/fist-fight on top of a moving train). It is not exactly hard-core realism, but the sex scenes are plentiful and hot, the settings glamorous (Bellagio, Geneva, Positano), and the action sequences well-choreographed, including Serbian assassins, Italian henchmen, and Danish agents, who get offed by the dozen. I read it straight through in a few hours with no regrets.

Bottom line: Fluffy fun

Sexy and stirring spy romance is a lot of fun

I'm a big fan of Keira Andrews, it seems no matter what style she turns her hand to the reader will get an enjoyable read with sexy men doing sexy things while having unexpected emotions.

This one's in the vein of her Valor on the Move romance with an age gap and, in this case, spies rather than political operatives, but it's no less thrilling.

There's a fab epilogue and a freebie short story to round off this sexy tale of a spy and the collateral "damage" he couldn't forget.

Overall this was a good story, not the best from Kiera Andrews, who I adore. But, well, you can't win them all. The extra story is also in the version I bought, which would count as "The Chimera Affair #2"

I don't exactly know why, but this was slow going for me. My attention and focus was in an out in this one until around the last 4th of the book. Not that Sebastian and Kyle didn't have something, something I did enjoy, just that there wasn't enough of it, for me. I've read a lot better from Andrews with a lot better chemistry too.

I think (?) this is one of Andrew's earlier works and it's fairly short (although it took me a long time to read) but Sebastian and Kyle happen quickly, even though Kyle is "just pretending" as a part of his job. But even after that is revealed and these two are on the run together, they happen quickly. There wasn't a whole lot of connecting on an emotional level before they were going at it, and I didn't quite feel how they got to the love part by the end.

Although I felt it much more in the second short story added at the end when the main story is done. I loved their connection there.

There was some back and forth from Kyle that was a little annoying and the constant thought of "I can't do this, it's just a job, let him go and be done with it" was like...after the first two or so times of that thought I was like "bitch, really? You keep coming back together and you're still trying to convince yourself you can walk away?"

But the story does pick up at the and it it did get exciting in true Keira Andrews fashion, and the sex, while a little fast and kind "so-so" at first, got better as the book went on.

Most of the story is wrapped up, except for one bad guy who we don't get a resolution on. I guess we just assume they go after him as they continue their spy life?

Although this character is someone we never see and never meet so it was kinda hard for me to care, because I felt no shock or betrayal or much of anything because we don't get to know this character at all. But he's still a threat they have to deal with, that I guess we'll never get to see? That's a little annoying

But overall this is an enjoyable book, and these two were cute near the end and they did have a connection, even if it happened a little fast for my tastes.

Fast paced suspense story and very enjoyable.

Sebastian is a math wiz and he can break codes fairly easily. His father does not approve of his being gay, though. His father is an all around bad guy, actually. And by 'bad guy', I mean soul sucking sociopath.

Kyle is the spy sent to seduce Sebastian in order to get to a WMD called Chimera. Only one problem -- Kyle is really attracted to Sebastian. When the setup goes wrong and Sebastian's father decides his son is more trouble than he is worth, Kyle decides to save the younger man.

The sex was hot, but sometimes seemed to come out of nowhere. These guys could take a serious beating and still want to go at it like there's no tomorrow. If you can get past the unlikeliness of that scenario, then you'll enjoy the story. It's kind of like a bond movie that way :)

4.5 stars. This James Bond-like thriller definitely hit all my action-adventure-romance-m/m buttons in one go. Really really fun read, quick pacing, and interesting, engaging, and sexy main characters with great chemistry. I appreciated that Sebastian wasn’t so helpless, and often his ingenuity would surprise Kyle-the-super-Spy. Sometimes I did question the sexy times happening (like, "Really, guys? Sexy times now?") But whatever-—more fun to go with the flow on this one. The ending leaves a potential opening for further adventures, so if the author so chooses, I would definitely be up for following along for more Action-Adventure-Super-Spy-Romance-M/M Awesomeness.

I was worried this book would feel dated, but besides a reference to a USB drive storing top secret information, it doesn't.

This story is exciting and fast-paced, with many twists and surprises. Danger lurks behind every door.

Sebastian and Kyle have sizzling chemistry, and the author doesn't spare any dirty details. The heat is always there, but trust takes longer.

The ending is not a traditional HEA. Indeed, the followup novella included in the new edition, The Argentine Seduction, ends with a cliffhanger that we now know will never be resolved.

The assumption is that the MCs will get their revenge, but that's an ending you'll need to write in your head.

Very good m/m romantic suspense about a spy who uses a young man's naivete in his pursuit of keeping a biochemical weapon out of the hands of terrorists, but then feels sufficiently guilty that he rescues the young man in the nick of time. And then things started to get interesting. :)

What would happen if James Bond got himself a Bond guy instead of a Bond girl? You'd have this delightful book. Kyle is a spy sent to obtain a chemical weapon from the bad guy's home. His plan to get in is through the bad guy's college age son Sebastian. Sebastian is sweet and naïve and perfect for manipulating. Kyle doesn't give thought to what will happen to Sebastian in the long run but when he has to go back and he sees Sebastian being taken to be killed he intercedes and takes him along with him.

The rest of the book is a fast paced adventure. The two men are in a race against the clock and they have not only Sebastian's father's people after them, but they also have Kyle's agency to deal with. They're an unlikely duo but quickly Kyle realizes there is more to Sebastian than he originally thought. Sebastian was a great character in my opinion. He retains some of his innocence but he's not weak or whiney and he really steps up when he needs to.

This book has a bit of everything. A fun plot, some action scenes, some sweet, romantic declarations and some hot, dirty sex. I really enjoyed everything about it. I would totally be ok with this being an ongoing series. I would love to read about these two doing missions together down the road. This book contains the short story of one such adventure called The Argentine Seduction

**** A thrilling tale with spies and danger !****
Imaginative and smart.
When the sexy spy, Kyle, 30s,

seduces innocent Sebastian, to gain access to his father's rooms, the wild chase began. Kyle takes off, and innocent Sebastian is to be killed. Luckily for Sebastian,

Kyle has come for him; rescues him, and now they are both running.

It's rocky ground while the guys figure out what is happening. Sebastian, 20, Harvard college student had no idea as to the extent of his father's evil, and decides to stay with Kyle to survive - he needs Kyle.

The pair must search for the chemical warfare vial, Chimera.

We get their hot, sizzling sexy times, which are new to Sebastian.

Kyle is a professional, but he can't deny his desire for Sebastian; Sebastian feels the same want. Emotions surfaced and they will work together as they travel to stop the exchange.

This is an exciting, well written, action packed adventure, with no dull moments.

Then Kyle figures out they can trust no one.
The chase continues and it is lively and engrossing.

" He didn't hear the floor creak behind him until it was too late."

You'll like this spy thriller escapade.
There is a bonus chapter of our two guys on a mission in Buenos Aires, Great thrills.
I highly recommend this one ! ENJOY !

When I saw that this was a spy thriller gay romance, I was like sign me up!

Sadly, The Chimera Affair didn't work for me. I wasn't engaged by the plot and the I couldn't feel any chemistry between the characters. The spice was nice, but if there's nothing else the romance doesn't work for me.

Adventure, car chases, roof of train running scenes, boats, busses, double crossing, to trust or not to trust or whom to trust, mafia, terrorists, murdering, hit men, spies, gunfights, virgins and virgins at falling in love, and a dad from hell.
I am sure I left out a few things, but you get the point.
I liked it, yes some of it might have been unrealistic, but I read books where people shift into bunnies and possums, so you know artistic license works for me.
Despite all the action and adventure and murder and mayhem it was actually a sweet story, the jaded Kyle falling for the young and seemingly helpless Sebastian. But Sebastian has a few tricks up his sleeve.
I'm off to read the free short and hope that my one complaint is cleared up in it.
