The Narroway Trilogy #3

Ottilie Colter and the Withering World

Rate this book
SLEEPER COMES FOR NONE

Ottilie and her friends are members of the Narroway Hunt, a secret organisation that trains children to kill bloodthirsty monsters called dredretches.

Now, the huntsmen are under attack – by something far worse than dredretches. A witch is cursing them one by one, making them unwilling participants in a vengeful scheme. But what, exactly, is she planning – and will Ottilie have to join her to find out?

The thrilling conclusion to a much-loved trilogy about friendship, changing loyalties and never, ever giving up.

Laatste deel was heel spannend.

A solid end to the series. I much enjoyed the humanity of the villian most ways to the end. And the callbacks to earlier information were rather enjoyable too.
This book still clearly is a middle-school book, but 'tis a worthy recommendation to any middle-schooler (imo).

🧡🌆🌄🏹OTTILIE COLTER AND THE WITHERING WORLD🏹🌄🌆🧡
4.5 Stars
The last battle. Things have changed, the tables are turned. Ned is receiving weird dreams, Maeve is struggling to find the cure for Scoot, Skip will discover her past, Ottilie will reunite with old friends. Together they must defeat Whistler or watch the world crumble around them.

This was a really satisfying ending to the trilogy! Rarely do I read a book were the trilogy stays good the whole time. The cast of character as always are really a true crew, and are loyal and hilarious. Finally Leo character growth has fully been completed. The end result is great, and Leo and Ottilie's friendship is amazing, and took a long journey. Ned and Ottilie were great too. We don't get to see a lot of Gully and Ottilie together as we did in book 1 but we still get the sense of their strong bond and relationship. The threads that were never completed, or given a definite answer was faced in this book. I wish we got to explore more on Ottilie's relationship with her mother. This book was awesome with the witches, fiorn, goedl, dredretches, hunters, swords, artifacts, plot twist (that had me screaming "plot twist!" in shock and admiration), the history of the royal family, and delving deeper into Ottilie's character. The whole book was easy to speed through, the pacing as always perfect. I really like Ottilie's character, so it was great to read more about her. I feel that their is room for a possible 4th book, and their is a lot of things we could explore more on. The ending was cool, I loved the battle but I felt that Whistler's death was really too easy after everything. I like the villain she has a interesting story and a good reason, but is doing the wrong thing to reach the goal, and with bad intention. We expanded a lot on the royal family which was great too. The ending was satisfying, refreshing, but I wish for another book to tie more on other characters journey, and other events.

I'm so sad it ended I actually have not been able to stop thinking about it for like 2 weeks and I literally don't know how i'll ever be able to rate a book 5 stars again this book is truly amazing

I love the way friendships develop like the one ottilie has with leo because at first she hated him, thought he was selfish and then he reported her as being a girl ruining everything for her and yet so much happens that when leo isn't her mentor the author makes the point that she doesn't feel safe without him and she misses him also ottilie says to leo in book three, "you're a brother to me" which just feels so sweet after all the drama thay happened between them

I also loved the plot twist and just how engaged I got in this book people kept asking me why I was gasping and it was kind of funny

Another thing I love about this book is you could never tell if a character/creature was about to die or go evil like ned, maestro, and scoot especially not gonna lie almost cried when maestro got attacked

So much more to say but the most important is that I really highly recommend this book

Loved this conclusion to the Narroway Trilogy. Won’t give too much away, but it’s action packed, page-turner goodness- it gets pretty dark so may be for the older end of middle grade. Initially I thought the plot was a little convoluted but it Williams ties it together really well. Character development/depiction perhaps the strongest in this one out of the three books - Ottilie & her pals are a real gang by the end of this, and I loved them all. A wonderful adventure!

This was sooooo good. I liked reading about how each character deals with their grief and how they handle it. There was action on every page. Although there was a little bit of romance, it added to the story. The only thing that I would comment on IS THE ENDING. 'She had wings" is not a good finishing sentence to 3 books! I wanna hear more about the rebellion, the king, and what happens next. There's so much room for a 4th book...I really hope Rhiannon Williams writes one!

This book is genuinely one of the best I’ve read. Rhiannon Williams is a writing genius. If I could turn back time and re-read a series for the first time, it would be for this series. Everything in the book, from the characters to the pacing to the plot- it’s amazing; a masterpiece. I mean this from the bottom of my heart. I first read the series in year 4 or 5 and now I’m in year 9, finished re-reading because this series is a timeless masterpiece. Author, thank you so much for writing this book. The characters were well balanced and written- all with their own personalities and flaws from Scoot with his endless humour to Leo with his sun-sized ego.

MINOR SPOILER:

I just wish we got more of an epilogue though. It would have been nice to see what Ottilie got up to after her journey’s end- not even that, she would just be continuing her adventure….. :,)

The ending SUCKED. It left me unimpressed and disappointed with the series, there was so many good moments that I loved and the first two books had great endings so this one was a huge let down. You cannot end the last book of a TRILOGY with CLIFFHANGERS. The final line was tacky and hard to understand.
I wish the author went a bit more into Ned and Ottilie's relationship because it was really cute and it added a nice bit to the book. The scene where Whistler trapped them in the tomb was well-written and enjoyable. It really showed just how done with everything Ottilie was because she kind of just gave up (but it wasn't a bad thing, she was a child and had been dealing so much before that I would have given up as well).
Overall this book was alright and would've been a four star if not for the first few chapters which were boring and the ending.

I don’t know what I’d do without this series now! This was the best series I’ve read in a very long time. Everything was chef’s kiss. The characters were amazing and I truly felt and cared about them all the way through. The plot and world building was a breath of fresh air and everything fit together so well in the end. The creatures were well constructed and really interesting. It ended with an opening for more and I hope the author makes another series! I absolutely loved everything about this series and everyone needs to read it!

There’s a lot going on in this one and at times I lost track of what was happening. Aside from that I enjoyed it well enough. The ending was satisfying, though it leaves room for a potential continuation.

I do have to say though that, with some of the reveals, I found myself more interested in the side characters (both children & adults) and their backgrounds/stories than the actual MCs.

My daughter (age 12) loved this book series so much that she asked me to read it. She would give it 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I, on the other hand, just couldn’t get into it. I wanted to know what happened in the story, I loved the world, and I wanted to puzzle out the reasoning of the antagonist, but I never jumped in. Maybe it was the pace? I felt frustrated by the errant details that didn’t quite come together until the very end.

This series only got better as it went on. The stakes are so high in this part and I loved that so much. I care so much for each of the characters and I really felt for them. You can see that Williams got better at writing with every book. I'm excited to see how that progresses in her other work. I will miss Ottilie, but I think it concluded in a nice way. 8.43 on CAWPILE TW// Betrayal, misogyny, death

Ottilie sneaked into the narroway hunt and now is working as a huntwomen. She fought and near got trapped into a trap set but a witch and luckily escaped. She and leo made it out and found their friend turned to stone. The only way to free the cruse was to get someone of the witches blood line to pour healing water on them. They found a daughter from the witch and were able to free the friend.

Third and final in the series. I left too long a gap between this and the previous book and it was hard to get into and remember all the details. A bit confusing. The first book was shortlisted for the CBCA awards and I really enjoyed it and the second one, so this was a bit disappointing.

3 1/2 stars. A satisfying conclusion to the series but I am sorry to say goodbye to the characters. I’d love to see more of Bill. Again, like the second in the series, this felt like it needed a couple more revisions to remove exposition and replace it with action.

Excellent conclusion to the trilogy. It gets intense, but still has the happy endings I want from YA. A sweet hint of young romance without it being a main focus. Creative monsters, and powerful themes of grief, trauma, and forgiveness and love.
