Not much of a plot, pretty trashy. She uses words that "good" authors use, but not in the way that makes the reading flow better, just in a way that makes it seem like she's a good writer (to an idiot). I bet she wore the keyboard out doing thesaurus checks while writing this book. Even the trashy sex scenes were just that - trashy and certainly not romantic. The only reason I finished it is because it was easy to skip over a lot of the text and it was fairly quick to "read."
Dreamboat was a good read. It is a story about 2 friends who go on a cruise to find some romance in their lives. And they do, just in different ways. There were several little plots within the book including some suspense.
I really enjoyed this book. There was a lot of sex in the book, which I was somewhat embrassed to read on the train, but unless someone was reading over my shoulder, I don't think that anyone knew! Lots going on and kept me entertained.
Being an aficionado of cruising I gravitate to stories that feature cruise ships. This story starts out in Albany, NY where our heroine Crissy is lamenting the lack of excitement and romance in her life. One of Crissy's clients convinces her that romance waits on the high seas and after the devastating effects of a one night stand Crissy decides to take a cruise. Crissy chooses a wonderful cruise - a month-long trans-Atlantic crossing. She is looking to see part of the world outside of Albany and hopefully to find a lasting romance. Her divorced friend Jenny invites herself along.
Crissy and Jenny are as dissimilar as two young women can get. Jenny is the typical good-time girl who falls in bed with the first man who smiles at her as well as the next, and the next, and the next. You get the picture. Crissy has standards and sticks to them. Both girls are initially attracted to Mark Vilos - the sexy young son of the Greek shipping magnate who owns the Sea Nymph upon which they are sailing. The two girls soon fall in with an odd group of characters who share their dinner table and other exploits. Crissy does end up having a shipboard romance with the handsome Italian doctor - I won't tell you how that ends. What no one knows is that Georgios Vilos (Mark's father) has been hiding the financial difficulties that his cruise line is in. Unable to procure any more loans to meet his obligations, the senior Vilos has decided to blow up the Sea Nymph in order to collect the insurance money. And he has decided to do the deed during the trans-Atlantic crossing.
I enjoyed this book because I like cruising. As a veteran of 40+ cruises I found the author's shipboard descriptions to be spot-on. She has captured the essence of cruising delightfully - even down to the differences between a penthouse suite and a cheap cabin. Her descriptions of various crew members is accurate as well. I believe I've met nurses like Voula on several ships. The ports of call are accurately described as well and I can only hope that Ms. Gould did her research first-hand. The first 25% of the book is a bit slow but once our main characters get on board ship the story takes off.
If you're dreaming about taking a cruise or if you're a veteran cruiser this book is for you. In fact, if you're looking for a book to take on your next cruise - consider DREAMBOAT. Just be assured that you won't find Captain Stuebing or Julie McCoy among the books characters.
I love this author and this book. Between the setting being mostly on a cruise ship (which I happen to love) and it being a romantic book I was instantly hooked, not to mention the suspense in the book as well. I really appreciated how this book made sure to point out that Crissy was like any other girl and yet she was able to do amazing things, plan out her own life, and find love. The twist with the suspense in the book was amazing and really kept you on your toes. I feel as though the companions that Crissy made on the boat symbolize that anyone can get along even sometimes the most unlikely of people. Like I said I really enjoy this author, she is a must read, and I really wish she had more books.
At first I was hesitant to read the book, but after staring it I was quickly caught up. Of course that only lasted for less than a hundred pages. The dialogue could do with some improvement. EVERY person solely commented on how beautiful Crissy is. Wouldn't she want to e valued for something more. Also Jenny was a horrible friend. How did Crissy not see it Anyway I'm glad that she was happy at the en though
This book is a slutty piece of crap, and the author should be ashamed of herself! I got to page 144 and couldn't go any further. There isn't one character in this book with any redeeming qualities! If no plot, shallow characters and bed-hopping is what constitutes a book for you, then, "have at it!"
It was a pretty good story. It was just kind of weird how descriptive some parts were in what the main character was doing. I did enjoy reading the book.
