Shay Island Shifters: Griff was previously published as Bearly Pucked by Janna Raynes

Bear shifter Griff “Grizzly” Berenger has a life most people would kill for. Rich, talented, and one of the star players of the Seattle Blizzards, he’s been putting on a good show to hide the emptiness he’s living in. Until the day he loses control of his bear and did the unthinkable. Now, suspended from the team and injured, Griff returns to his home on Shay Island to nurse his physical and emotional wounds now since the only thing that gave him purpose is gone. He is ready to wallow in his misery until she walks into his life…

Half shifter Maddox Price has come to accept her outcast status, though that doesn’t mean she lets it ruin her life. She’s fought for every scrap of dignity and respect. An amazing opportunity lands her on Shay Island, and if she gets it right it could make her entire career. But just because she’s suddenly faced with the grumpiest, most arrogant client of her short career, it doesn’t mean she’s going to lay back and take it. Even if the thought of laying back with Griff does send fire through her veins.

When Griff realizes that Maddox is the key to helping him control his bear and rebuilding his life, he tries to convince the fiery woman to give him a chance. But Maddox isn’t about to be won over by some pretty words about being his “mate”, especially when every shifter she’s ever met has made it clear that she’s just not good enough.

Both must fight their own insecurities and fears to find each other. With a little help from their friends, family, and their time on Shay Island, their love might have a fighting chance.

Start off this spicy shifter romance series Shay Island Shifters with Griff: Book 1!

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the internal struggle of Griff and Maddox, coming together, fighting their fears and insecurities. With help of their friends and family and their time on Shay Island, their love for each other could be enough?

This was a quick read. It was my first time reading this author. There isn’t a whole lot of paranormal in the story besides one fighting scene and some elongated nails.
Griff is the second oldest son in the family and a professional hockey player. When he overhears a negative comment by a teammate made about a women in the stands, he overreacts and hits Rob too hard at practice. He gets 1 week suspension. He goes home to celebrate his moms birthday. Little does he know that the team doctor is working in his favor. He sends Maddox (lady in question) and 1/2 bear shifter newly graduated physical therapist to check on him while he’s on suspension. As soon as he sees her, he knows she’s his mate. Maddox was adopted and had never quite fit in. She loves the dynamics of Griffs family, especially his mom. I’m not gonna lie, there is quite a bit of sex in the story. While Griff is 100% sure Maddox is his, she seems to question a few things that happen in the story. It did get annoying that the family friend Everly wasn’t put in her place earlier. They end up back in Seattle while she has interviews. There’s some drama around that, instead of just being thankful he could help. There is a happy ending. It is a standalone story with more books about the family to follow.

GRIFF is Book #1 in the Shay Island Bear Shifters. This is a story of a female half bear shifter named Maddox Price. She was adopted by humans that loved her, and she loved them & her human sister. Even though they had sent her to a bear shifter tutor, and her sister called them Lessons to Bear, she never felt like she fit among the human race. But they didn't know how it was like to be torn in half by her own genetics.

When Maddox was a newly graduated physical therapist, she was sent to check on the injuries of Griffin Berenger, left-wing defender for the Seattle Blizzards. He is a so good-looking human on the outside, but all bear on the inside. Griff wants her from his first sighting of Maddox. The problem is, even though her lessons had taught her that finding & claiming a mate could happen, nobody had explained to her what to do if it ever did happened!?

Finding Yiur Mate

Title: Griff
Author: Jenna Rivers
Format: ebook
Genre: Romance, Paranormal, Shifter (Bear), Sports (Hockey), Fated Mates
Standalone: yes
Part of a Series: Book 1 of Shay Island Shifters
POV: Griff, Maddox
Steam Level: toasty at times
4/5

Griff is the first book in the Shay Island Shifters and also the first book I’ve read by Jenna Rivers. Griff and Maddox’s story is sweet, funny and steamy. Maddox is only Hal’s shifter who cannot shift. Her bear is there but is also under the surface. Maddox has bear traits while in human form but not all shifter qualities are present. Griff is a professional hockey player whose drawn to the new girl. Both fight themselves, their insecurities and an outside force to come together and stay together. Griff was a quick read that I enjoyed.

Who Knew Bears Could Be So Hot?

Jenna Rivers has done an amazing job with Griff. She brought me on a roller coaster of emotions and really made the story come to life. I could relate to Maddox, which made the story that much better.

I think one of my favorite parts throughout the entire book is not one person was perfect. Everyone had some type of issue or flaw. So it wasn’t just a fluffy story. There was grit and depth to it

Well done! I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Maddox and Griff

Maddox was sent to Shay Island by the doctor of the hockey team to check on Griff’s injuries because he had gotten suspended for hitting one of his teammates for a comment he made about her. Griff knew they were mates but didn’t think that she would know what it meant because she wasn’t raised by shifters. Maddox felt the pull to him as well, some people had to try to cause problems between them but the worked threw it and came out stronger for it. Good book!

This could have easily been a sports romance and not much would have changed, except maybe the scene when the brothers fight as bears; they would have just fought as humans. The fated mates thing is only used as an excuse to bring them together, and to me, it's just lazy writing. Also, he's got some anger management issues that get magically solved when they get together. Not much character growth there. And her insecurities magically disappear too, so she doesn't grow much either.

Awesome book!!

Love love love this book!! You have a beautiful woman who is half shifter and she meets a handsome man who is a full shifter. They instantly fall in love but she doesn’t understand all the feelings because she was not raised by shifter parents. Very interesting story and the author knows how to keep your eyes on the book!!

Pornography

This story was beyond dirty. I.had to skim the pages just to get to the end. Call it romance...I say it's pure porn. Don't read it if you don't want to hear the "F" word 1,000 times or watch two people have sex over and over and over! I would NOT recommend this author!

Griff

This story was slower than my usual reads but I stayed through till the end. It definitely had heart and struggle. I enjoyed the long game. Her support from both his family and hers was nice and acceptance was crucial. Maddox has to learn growth and acceptance for herself. Lies and over thinking can harm more than help.

Good story. Would have rated it higher but there were a lot of people to follow. Got confusing at times, especially with Maddox. In my mind, this is a man's name and due to this, I kept confusing her for one of his brothers! Still, the pacing was good.

I really enjoy this authors writing style. My only selfish complaint is I wish the books were longer! I will definitely be continuing this series. I would love more time to get to know the characters, their backstory and the community of shifters.

Thoroughly enjoyed this story. Loved the play between Maddox and Griff. Sexy and hot from the beginning with these two. The author gives you side characters that you want more of. I can't wait for Titus's story. Will look for more from this author .

Coming together

He's been having trouble with his bear until he saw her in the doctor office, so he went over to see what's up. She was trying to get a job and the doctor was a good friend helping out.

Not for me

Maybe I'm done with the explicit and just want a story. When Maddox got angry with him the second time over Everly, I started skimming.

If hockey romance met growly fated mates shifter romances, it would be this book. The MMC is a talented and famous hockey player on temporary suspension for putting one of his teammates into a hospital during practice (in his mind, he had a good reason). The FMC is sent by the hockey team’s doctor to check up on Griff’s injuries. Forced proximity and animal natures lead to fated mate realizations and learning more about the best shifter community living on Shay Island.

Definitely a super cute read with a half-shifter FMC learning more about her animal side after being adopted and raised amongst humans, unable to access that furrier side.
