I must admit I had difficulty getting through this novel. I started it back in January, would put it down for a few weeks, pick it up again, down again, etc., and finally finishing it in September. Author Elizabeth Gage puts her characters through wild and tumultuous rides, with consequences for actions showing up at unexpected times. And it's those hooks that make you keep coming back, simply to see what was going to happen. Ms. Gage is a gifted writer and storyteller. I don't know if this novel was ever made into a movie, but it certainly has the elements that would make it interesting.

The story was a bit much.
This sudden relationship came out of "nowhere" and was very unrealistic to me. The ending was also dramatic and a bit ridiculous to me.
Actually, I found it a bit boring in some parts. It would just go on and on about how bad someone was feeling etc for the second or third time.
This was just not my type of book - too much eye rolling from me.
However, there was one quote at the end of the book that I did enjoy:
"There comes a time in life when one's obligation to other people must take a back seat to one's duty to oneself. Too often, in order to fit in to the world, one forgets the true shape of one's own spirit and forces it like square peg into a round hole, gradually eroding it until there is no self left to encounter."
I thought that was a clever way to put it and different from the usual "be yourself" pep talks.
Regardless, this book was only okay. I have not read this author before and I doubt I will again.

Started and finished date - 02.09.25 to 05.09.25.
My rating - One Stars.
I found book to be very boring, and this book was a struggle to finish. The cover of book was okay but bit boring. The writing was fine, and the writing was easy to follow also the ending was okay. The atmosphere was fine. The paced of plot was well structured and steady paced. I found the characters hard to connect to and I think they need to flash out bit more.
