Hilarious misadventures involving unexpected twists including murder, drug running and an inheritance as newly retired Jack and Susie buy their first caravan. Jack and Susie Morton have had their fill of the daily grind, bored and tired of their jobs. And Jack has been ill, a heart attack and triple bypass. It was time to spend some quality time together. So they go ahead and retire early. Buy a caravan they call Daisy. Only problem is that the hapless couple know absolutely nothing about caravanning. It's a steep learning curve. Can Jack overcome his terror of towing? Will they master the art of emptying the chemical toilet? Follow Jack and Susie's hilarious and sometime nerve racking caravan adventures as they explore Wales, Northumberland and the Lake District. The brave couple even venture to France. They meet some larger than life characters on the way. And it's not only Daisy that proves a challenge. Old friends prove to be full of surprises. And what are the shocking secrets of dear sweet Aunt Emily's past? Jack's child like sense of humour and Walter Mitty character is kept firmly in check by his darling wife. But Susie has a little bit of a cleaning obsession as the long suffering Jack knows too well. And Susie keeps on adding to her inordinately large collection of puffin memorabilia. There are a multitude of twists and turns in their story and that's not just the road.
You’re never too old to try something new. That’s why we decided to have a crack at writing our first comedy novel in our sixties.
We write comedy misadventures for those who enjoy a smile and don’t want to take life too seriously.
Our lives both before and after we met and married have been full of surprises, funny incidents, and bizarre situations. We have both lived through ‘interesting times.’ What has kept us going through good times and bad has been our shared ironic sense of humour and strong self-belief that there will be a path through to better days.
We’ve tapped into our memories with our writing. Adding a good splash of over-active imagination and incredulity to come up with the characters and plots.
Are we like some of the characters in our books? Yes, there are elements there especially in the Daisy Days books – Jack and Susie Morton are largely based on us. Other characters are a hotchpotch of people we’ve met, seen on TV or pure figments of our imagination.
Amazing how real they become though once they are brought to life in a manuscript. How wonderful it would be to invite all the characters in our books to a party and have a chat and let them get to know each other!
How do you write together as a couple? We’ve always worked together so it comes quite easily (most of the time).
A few bits of trivia about us We are retired (except for writing books – but that’s more like a hobby and no one tells us to go to work so that doesn’t count)
Yes, we are caravanners and we do have a caravan called Daisy – actually we’ve had two caravans called Daisy – good name so why change it? Our favourite destinations are Northumberland and The Scottish Borders which feature in our books.
Christopher had a heart attack and triple bypass just like Jack but he’s fit and well and eating porridge now.
Life has bowled us some odd balls from time to time, which have inspired our books. Not going into details – don’t want to give any plot lines away.
“We’ve lived everywhere man” as the song goes but are now permanently settled in Darlington – probably, but who knows?
We live with Princess Bonnie – a black and white cavapoo who likes soft cushions and keeps us both firmly under her paw.
Lynne creates all the covers to our books. She enjoys painting when she’s not writing, cooking or hoovering. (I do the hoovering actually)
We hope you enjoy reading our books as much as we loved writing them. Thank you for spending your time reading our creations, for which we are grateful. We never intended making money from our writings – it was started as a retirement hobby but the extra income is the icing on our pensions cake. And we need the money. (joke)
Would recommend to anyone who likes a nice, cosy book. No nastiness or rudeness-just funny ,in an old- fashioned way. One thing I must criticise , though,-please get a good proof- reader-PLEASE. There are some really glaring mistakes, and I really cringe at some of them.-but it’s still a damned good read.
On to the sequel now. Looking forward to reading the next book but they do keep me awake, as I say to myself " I' ok just read one more chapter, before I settle down".
We have a campervan and have visited some of these places. Jack reminds me a bit of my hubby who is a bookkeeper and has similar traits whilst Susie is more artistic like me. I love the story how it twists and turns and you don’t always know where it’s heading. Reading the second book now!
Being a former caravanner I was looking forward to this book. What a disappointment. Poorly written about two of the most annoying characters I have had the misfortune to meet on the written page.
Well worth a read by anybody who is an outdoors type and loves the freedom of the road likes to camp under the moon and stars! I love the hilarious adventures of Jack and Susie in their new life in retirement! so funny...
Feel good, laugh out loud light hearted read. Fell in love with the two main characters and their quirkiness. Highly recommend if you are looking for some light summer reading. Loved it
