Required Reading: Climate Justice, Adaptation and Investing in Indigenous Power

Rate this book
Curated, edited and produced by NDN Collective's Climate Justice campaign. Required Reading is a roadmap that hones in on why Indigenous peoples must lead through the heart of the climate crisis.

As the recent IPCC report highlights, we are on the brink of ecological collapse, yet we know that Indigenous communities continue to hold key insights into how to mitigate environmental destruction. Required Reading: Climate Justice, Adaptation and Investing in Indigenous Power is both a road map and a call to action that illuminates the linkages between centering Indigenous leadership and repairing our fractured world.

A tour de force in many voices, responding to the dire need for new/old perspectives in climate crisis response. Required Reading spans the realms of protest, relationality, land rights and their link to human rights, and- most trenchantly, to me- the enduring resilience of Native landways. Absolutely foundational perspective for the past, present, and future.

This is absolutely a must-read by anyone who cares about creating a livable future on this planet and wants to know how we get there in a way that centers justice and Indigenous rights. There are so many different kinds of wisdom in this book. It seems designed for political decision-makers, but I found it really accessible, and ultimately aren’t we all political decision makers?
