Escape into addictive, sexy, emotional queer M/M romance. A.D. Ellis is an Indiana girl, born and raised. She spends much of her time in central Indiana as an instructional coach/teacher in the inner city of Indianapolis, being a mom to two amazing teens, and wondering how she and her husband of over two decades haven't driven each other insane yet. A lot of her time is also devoted to phone call avoidance and her hatred of cooking. She loves chocolate, hot tea, sweet wine with friends, pizza, and naps along with reading and writing romance. These loves don’t leave much time for housework. Who would pick cleaning the house over a nap or a good book? She uses any extra time to increase her fluency in sarcasm. A.D. uses she/they pronouns. My heart broke from the first page. Watching Cameron lose his husband was beyond heartbreaking. Cam and Deacon are deeply in love. They have just adopted their second child when Deacon is diagnosed with leukemia. After treatment, remission and then reoccurrence, Deacon loses his battle and Cam loses the love of his life. His best friend Kade comes to stay with him to help get him through the worst of the aftermath of Deacon's death. When Kade's wife leaves him for another man, wanting nothing to do with their him or his children, Kade turns to Cam for comfort. For a long time it's just friendship, but eventually, the feelings deepen into more. Will these two men accept the second chance at love they have been given?
I've read most of the books in this series, and this was by far the best. I absolutely loved this story. Some characters are just made for each other, and in my opinion, Kade and Cam are one of those couples. They fit together like the pieces of a puzzle. Their story is a slow burn, but it had to be. The author gives Cam and Kade sufficient enough time to heal from their respective heartbreaks, so they are ready to accept the move from friends to lovers. Although it was a slow move, the progression felt natural and realistic. The sexual tension between Kade and Cam is palpable and the chemistry electric. When they finally give into the attraction and fall into bed the sex is explosive and beyond hot!
This story was well-written, paced well and filled with heartbreak, healing, sweetness, some angst, but most of all, love. This story is, well, it was perfect and I don't say this often, but I'll definitely revisit Kade and Cam in the future. Highly recommended!!

AD has made this series a must read for me from the beginning. All her characters are flawed or going through a tuff time and find a way to happiness. We start this story reading how Cameron is losing his husband to cancer. It is heartbreaking to read how they say good bye. Deacon makes Cam promise to love again and make sure their 2 boys are happy. Cam doesn't know how he will go on without the love of his life with him but he knows he has to find a way for their children. Kade is married with 2 boys of his own, when one if his best friends passes away. Kade finds himself being there for Cam when he needs him after Deacons death. Kade, his wife, Cameron and Deacon were all friends as well their boys. So it was a no brainer for Kade to help out when he was needed. Kade and his wife are having problems but Kade feels they can work through them. She is never around and always at work or out with friends. Kade finds out she is having an affair and confronts her. She admits to it and say she doesn't want to be a mom or wife anymore so she leaves. Kade is devastated and goes to Cam's to see his son's. He tell Cam what happened and Cam gets to be there for Kade now as well. Cameron and Kade get into a routine with the kids. Cam isn't lonely when Kade is there and Kade doesn't have to think about his marriage falling apart. Cameron tells Kade that he should move in so they can help each other. Kade agrees and the boys are all for it. Kade realizes he is having feelings for Cameron and admits he is bi-sexual. Cameron is also having feelings for Kade but doesn't think he is ready to move on. The sexual tension between them is sizzling until they do something about it. Kade has an idea which I wont tell you about but after the fiasco they start to get closer. I love that they are best friends, parents and lovers. Kade has to deal with his x-wife but Cameron is there through it all and they grow stronger. AD wrote the drama so well that you sometimes just want them to move on with the relationship. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the way they said "I love you" so fast once they got together. Their boys are great and that they all get along as best friends makes it so cute to read. I am hoping there is a book 7 and I can't wait to read it. *ARC provided by AD Ellis in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Jodi from Alpha Book Club
A stunning work of loss, hurt, pain, joy, understandings, love and human's ability to encompass all that into each other and move forward.
Well here we are at Kade and Cameron's story , what's left to say about it , I Loved It!
Cameron is in mourning after losing his husband, left with two kids to raise on his own, his good friend Kade's marriage has crumbled and he has two kids of his own as well. The two friends move into Cameron's house since Kade needs a place to live.
The story moves swiftly from good friends to lovers. Cameron and Kade's children blend well together, a solid, sad and beautiful story with a happily ever after that most of us dream about happening to us!
A.D Ellis has penned a stunning work of loss, hurt, pain, joy, understandings, love and human's ability to encompass all that into each other and move forward.
Cameron and Kade are best friends, they work at the same college (in different departments), and their kids are the same age and are also best friends.
When their lives fall apart at the same time (death and divorce)), they lean on each other and grow closer. Instead of being two separate households of single fathers, Cameron suggests Kade and his kids move in. That way they can share responsibility of household chores, and their boys can have 2 parents around. Kade can also earn extra money by either renting or selling his house.
One night, while the boys are spending time with grandparents, Kade makes a drunken confession about being bi. The guys acknowledge being attracted to each other, but initially agree not to do anything about it. For Cameron, it's still too soon after his husband's death, and Kade doesn't want to screw up his divorce and lose custody of his boys.
Eventually, they decide it's worth the risk and decide to act on their feelings and be together. There are a few roadblocks on the road to their HEA regarding Kades ex-wife, but they do get there.
I enjoyed this friend's to lovers story. I like that the children were their priority, but they didn't take over the story. Also, the kids were 4 and 6 and acted their ages. I also like that the men didn't jump into bed right away, but let their relationship deepen and made sure it was what they wanted.
The only thing I didn't like was the storyline regarding the ex wife and how they resolved the custody issue. It seemed a little OTT.

Kade & Cameron is the 6th book in the Something About Him series but it's a standalone story. The books are connected by theme, not location or characters. All of the stories are great and I highly recommend them.
The blurb pretty much tells you everything you need to know about this book except how it made me feel. The story summoned all kinds of emotion in me: sadness and tears for the loss that Cameron suffers when his husband dies; anger for what Kade's wife does; laughter when the two men and four boys are having fun together and many other feelings, too.
Every one of the books in this series has been a five-star read for me. Ms. Ellis's writing has the ability to make me feel what her characters are feeling and put me right in the middle of the story. Once I started this book I didn't want to put it down.
Kade and Cameron suffer greatly due to the things Kade's wife does but they do get an HEA. I especially appreciated the epilogue which gave us another glimpse of the family's life together a few years down the road.
I don't know if additional books are planned in this series or not but I really hope that more are coming.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
I’ve just finished a Boxed Set ‘Something About Him’ by A.D.Ellis which I download free from SMASHWORDS. All are MM stories. It’s taken A while for me to get to read it but I’m so glad I did. The couples in each of the 7-8 stories grabbed my heartstrings and wouldn’t let go. I was happy knowing that with just a flip of the final page, there was another tale waiting for me to continue on. Some characters featured in Book 1 also appear in other stories in the boxed set.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Book 1 - Bryan & Jase, both served together in military. Bryan is openly gay, Jase is curious, but has a girlfriend back home. One of the best stories in the set. Both MC’s feature in several of follow on stories.
⭐️⭐️⭐️Book 2 - Brody & Nick, Brody is a Psychology student, early 20’s Nick studies and works part time at Animal rescue shelter and a Centre for Homeless youths. Addie is Brody’s best friend but she is very nosey, bossy and interfering not always in a good way. I did not like Her part in this book, hence 3 stars.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Book 3- Barrett & Ivan, At 11 years old, Barrett was taken in by Ivan’s Uncle Victor who was raising Ivan 18 and his younger sister Lexi. When Lexi is 16, she is beaten by her boyfriend and Ivan 18, attacks and accidentally kills him. Ivan was a hero in Barrett’s eyes and had a huge crush on him. To Barrett’s joy, Ivan kisses him when he is being taken away and arrested. He serves jail time but arranges for Barrett to take care of Lexi, in a safe house in the countryside. They wait for Ivan’s return. But prison life has changed Ivan.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Book 4- Braeton & Drew, Braeton first appears in Book 1 as a friend to Bryan. He is quite twinky, a polar opposite to Advertising Executive Andrew, however this doesn’t prevents sparks igniting something between them. Loved Braeton’s character and unpredictability. Such an adorable guy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Book 5 - Ryker 18 & Gavin 27, this is an Age Gap relationship. When Ryker tells his widowed mother he is gay she gives him an option, “stop being gay or leave her house”. As if!!! She hugs and kisses him when he leaves. Luckily he meets Asher who needs someone to share rent on his apartment after his roommate suddenly has to leave. Ryker meets Gavin at a club when he’s looking to hookup as he doesn’t do relationships. But something about Gavin has Ryker bringing him back to his room. Some weeks later he comes across Gavin again and he is shaken at what he finds out. This was quite angsty, I liked Ryker, Gavin had to grow on me much more Slowly. Didn’t like Ryker’s Mum.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Book 6 - Kade & Cameron, this is probably my very favourite in the Set. Cameron has just buried his husband Deacon, after a long and painful Illness, leaving him with two young boys. Luckily he is supported with help from parents and his friends, Kade, his wife Stephanie and their two young sons. However, Kade’s wife is behaving strangely and now it’s Cameron and his sons who is trying to help Kade deal with some serious matters in his family. Kade and Cameron just took up a space in my heart and I don’t want them to leave. 🥰. Kade’s marital relationship turns into a very nasty situation for all concerned. It’s not as comfortable a read as others in the set, yet it is still my favourite.
There are two other very short ‘novella stories’ added on at the end.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Adam and Kyle appears in Braeton and Drew’s story, Drew is a work colleague of Drew. They both had a rough time growing up because of their sexuality and only met when Adam went shopping for clothes where Kyle worked. Now they are planning a wedding with a honeymoon in NEW York over the New Year Celebrations. Snow May look pretty through the window, but it sure causes problems in travel plans.
⭐️⭐️⭐️Eli & Gage, It’s VaLentines Day and Elijah is working behind the bar not out celebrating with someone special. He’s given up looking for love in his life, he’s been fooled too many times in the past. Gage is draped over the bar well on the way to being drunk. He hates Valentines Day because last year on this day, he walked into his home and found his boyfriend buried in someone else in his bed. 😱. Eli offers him a glass of water and Gage tells him why he hates this day. Eli feels sympathy for him and as he’s just finished his shift, he suggests they go next door for coffee to help Gage sober up. Then then decide to get something to eat and watch a movie ………..

All of these books are available as standalone stories which I hadn’t read before. I hate having to wait for next weeks episodes in TV dramas, likewise here for the next books. That’s why I love Boxed Sets when it’s best to read books in sequence.
If you haven’t read this series ‘ Something About Him’ by A.D. Ellis, I highly recommend each of these books as individual reads, or grab the boxed set at SMASHWORDS, if it’s still available.
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
Ok I think that this is my new favorite book in the series…..EEEP!! I loved loved loved this friends to lover’s story. I loved the angst and the chemistry that we get from the two characters. I loved how each man was struggling as a single father who is devoted and loves his boys without end. But what I really loved was seeing two broken men find love with each other.
Cam’s story starts with the loss of his much-loved husband. His friend and heterosexual best friend, Kade, is there the whole way. He helps Cam pick up the pieces for himself and his boys. Kade is a man stuck in a loveless marriage. He turns to his best friend Cam when he realizes his marriage is over.
The two men develop a great friendship and support system but a night of drinking turns to some open and honest communication where Kade tells a little secret that will alter the men forever.
I loved how they two men were so afraid of what they were feeling and how they both took things slow. The small touches and first kiss….scorching for sure. I loved who they were both scared to try because of messing up their friendship and support system but also scared to let a once in a life time love go.
The story definitely tugged on my heart a few times along with made me stop to fan myself because DANG it got HOT really quick!!!
After loosing the love his life, Cameron is unsure of how to move on. When Kade's marriage is over, he must learn how to pick up the pieces. When friendship becomes more, will the men allow their feelings to develop? When Kade's ex becomes unstable will they be able to come out the other side?
LOVE THIS SERIES! This series pulled me in when I read Ryker and Gavin and I was so excited to see a new book added to the series! Loved how despite both of their losses they bond together to overcome their problems. I really thought that the fact that their relationship had such a strong friendship to begin with made their relationship stronger. Great book and highly recommend it and this series!

Kade and Cameron's book was amazing. I cried for Cameron and his little boys in the beginning of the book. I was upset and sad for Kade and his little ones as well. Then the two best friends move in together to help each other out in their time of need. Along the way they fall in love but have some obstacles to go through until they could be truly happy. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend reading it.
I loved this book. It made me cry, be happy, love, laugh, and get angry.
I loved this friends to lovers book. Kade and Cameron were perfect for each other and the support they give each other.
I loved the blending the families and love shared between them all. What kids wouldn't love to be able to live with their best friends? I loved the little ones in this book and how the men cared so deeply and the best dads they could be.
I truly wanted to kill Stephanie but in reality there are women like that.
In the end these guys deserved all the happiness in the world and I loved their story.
holy moly, where to begin. This book had literally everything, heartbreak, loss, devastation, betrayal, friendship, love, and a whole lot of steam!!!!!!
I really don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'm going to try not too lol
Cam and kade have both been put through the ringer and are pulling themselves out of the dark holes they have been put in, each for different reasons, through the friendship they have built they are there to support each other with a helping hand.
This had a great storyline that flowed seamlessly but also had enough drama and nail biting moments to keep you really intrigued.
I loved this story. Right from the first page, I was pulled into the story and I just had to keep on reading. It started so sadly with the death of Cam’s husband, Deacon, and the crumbling marriage of Kade. I was kind of dreading that this would set the tone of the entire book. Nothing is further from the truth. It is a book of joy and hope. Best friends Kade and Cam find comfort and help with each other after the death of Cam’s husband, Deacon, and Kade’s messy divorce. They have each two boys to raise and sharing a household will solve most of their problems. They are not looking for love but living together A.D. Ellis has a knack for capturing the characters and bringing them to life. Kade and Cam are amazing fathers and doing their very best to raise and protect their sons. I loved the banter between the two men and interactions with the boys. The writing about the day-to-day living is so vivid and recognizable I became part of the family. Their gradual slide from best friends to lovers is natural and genuine. Nothing is forced. I could feel the connection building with each word and gesture. They are meant to be together. They just fit. I loved that Cam still thinks about Deacon, but can open his heart to Kade. The author found just the right balance between remembering and letting go. There are some daunting moments in the end, that are logical results of previous events. Highly recommended. This book left me with a warm feeling in my heart.
First let me say that this is my favorite cover of the series…whew! Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes so I knew I would like this story. I love the history shared between the two and it always seems like the relationship is stronger because of the friendship.
The beginning of the story is a bit gut wrenching. Cameron breaks our heart a bit but Kade is there to help him through the tough times. Kade is stuck in an impossible situation and needs Cameron’s support to deal with it. Kade is finally exploring his sexuality which he pushed aside for years. These guys are so good together once they are finally able to explore a relationship. They just work…and their sexual chemistry is off the charts. They are both great fathers and work well together as a cohesive unit for the boys. I would have liked to see a bit more explanation to the children on what was going on with both families; it seemed like it all just kind of came together and the boys just went on with it.
A couple of things that bothered me were the situation with Kade’s wife with her escalation and the epilogue. I wanted more of their story at the end, not a fast forward through several years summed up in one sentence.
Even with those two issues, this is definitely another great read in the series.
It is not often that I read a fiction book and cry because hey its fiction. But the first few chapters of this book had me crying. The writing was spot on for the emotions of the events of the story. This is the sixth book in Something About Him Series. It can be read as a standalone that is how I read it but It would probably be a good idea to read the previous books first. What an gripping book the writing was amazing. The characters were well developed and thought out. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book and the pace of event was perfectly timed. I found the story and characters wonderful. Cameron and Kade are the MC’s of this book both having 2 small boys each. There was humor, death, a cheating wife, children, family, tears, emotions of all kinds and so much more in this book. Here is a quote from the book, “Yeah, it’s crazy how our hearts can swell with so much pride and love and anticipation as we watch them grow and change and become little people, but also have to deal with memories and heartache and fear of what the future may hold. I’m not sure I understood the word bittersweet until I became a parent.”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can highly recommend. It is an emotional rollercoaster that ends with an HEA and is worth the read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
I absolutely love the Something About Him books by A.D. Ellis, and Kade and Cameron were no exception.
First, this one is a little different from the other's. Cameron and Kade are friends. Cameron is married to the love of his life, living on the lake with his husband and two children, and Kade-well, he's also married with two kids, but his life is not the perfect life he dreamed of.
Tragedy takes the perfect life Cameron has, and rips his heart out. He's left reeling, not knowing how to live in the wake of his loss. Kade, ever the friend, is there for him through all of this. Kade's wife, however, is a hoorible human, who, chooses some type of life over her family-over her kids. She thinks the grass is greener, she's a liar and for the lack of better words, a class A Bitch.
In their time of need, these two friends are there for each other and in that time, they develop feelings for each other. It's not immediate, its a slow burn, but so worth it in the end. I really felt for these two character's, and was invested in this story. As with all these stories in this series, this one tugs at the heart strings, but it's a read that is so worth it!
A D Ellis hooked me in from the start of this book where Cameron says goodbye to the love of his life Deacon in such an emotionally charged scene it's heartbreaking. Then comes the grief and pain that Kade, Cameron's friend supports him through. Then Kade experiences something and the hurt leads to anger, but then...in true AD Ellis style, a light beings to shine and hope for these two begins to blossom.
It all begins with friendship that is necessary for both of them as they try to raise their boys as single parents, the support and time spent with each other leads to the friendship developing into feelings of something more. The challenges of this for both of them are complex emotionally and this throws up some moments between them where the will they, won't they element begins to play a role.
Don't despair though...the HEA is there and it's such a sweet end that you can't help but feel satisfied, if not a little drained from the emotional roller coaster this book brings.
You laugh, you cry, you get angry and you fall in love. What more could you ask for?
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reading Copy of this book.
I absolutely adore AD Ellis and have loved her Something About Him series from the beginning. I have to say that Kade & Cameron are my favorite couple after Bryan & Jase. This story is both about second chances and friends becoming lovers and Ms Ellis hits it out of the park. She writes these two men with such vulnerability and honesty you cant help fall in love with them. The devotion they feel for each other and how they turn to each other when the other is at their lowest was fantastic. The introduction of their romance to their 4 sons (each has 2 boys) was well done and honest.
The story is fast paced - though it does take time for the Kade and Cam to admit their feelings if that makes sense. When the romance really starts to heat up boy does it ever and it was fantastic. The secondary characters were fleshed out nicely and there is even a villain who I am glad to say get theirs. The dialog is sharp and truthful and since the story is told from dual POV's we get to see both men's struggle.
All in all I loved every word - its a great addition to an already fun series
Got from Hidden Gems ARC Club, for an honest review.
Right off the bat the book hits a sad emotion with me. Losing a loved one to cancer is never easy. The beginning of the book hit hard for me since I lost my dad to cancer. So tears rolled down my cheeks as I read along. With children involved, makes it even harder to move along. It was nice to see Kade being there for Cameron. Kade goes through his own problems with his wife.
The author helps me to connect to the characters. Both having sad things happening in their lives. I thought the story was well written. I thought Kade and Cameron had great friendship chemistry. It slowly builds to being more between them. I loved the story.
From the very first page I was captured by the author's gift of immersing the reader into the hearts and minds of her characters. The story is well thought out. Kade and Cameron are easily understood and lovable. The secondary characters are supportive to the plot and the children are precious and integral to the work without overwhelming the main storyline. A strong passion builds after the worst of the grief and dismay have eased and culminates in some very spicy intimacies. The environment is well drawn and the antagonist is a nasty piece of work that I was glad to see the last of. The range of emotions that the author put me thru was exhausting but oh so enjoyable.
I really like this series and loved this book, it has everything I like in a novel. Good characters with a detailed and interesting story with enough drama to keep you engaged.
This book is about two best friends Cameron and Kade who through the years have shared lots of ups and downs, but when Cameron's husband dies and Kades wife cheats on him both the men and their children are thrown together and slowly both mens feelings for each other change and friendship turns into more.
I hope there will be more books in this enjoyable series. Recommended.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I thought it was great. There were some emotional moments but they were written so well that I felt I was a part of them. Kade and Cameron are good men and awesome fathers. I loved seeing their relationship progress. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author. *I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*
I loved reading and watching as Kade discovered and acknowledged his burgeoning feelings for Cam, and vice versa. It was a slow build-up to an amazingly hot crescendo. Two hot men just giving in to their mutual desire for each other, yet their sweet friendship was what carried them through the rough spots in their lives. Loved this steamy M/M romance! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
The author engage me from the beginning, crying over Deacon and Cameron. Gosh I loved Deacon's character. Now Cameron has only his two sons and Kade, his straight best friend, won't let him suffer through it alone. I loved the fact that it is a very family oriented story. All those loving grand parents and their kids, their neighbors, and even though they suffer their own loss they are there for each other. Loved Kade and Cameron!
Made and Cameron have know each other for years. Both had different lifestyles but had two boys each. Each has a different hardship that brings them together. Their connection and the way their boys blend is so wonderful. The house by the lake seems so fabulous. Both of their parents are also so wonderful to all the boys. It is full of different emotions but love it even though tissues are needed. Love this book.
i love this author. i love this series.. this is truly amazing.. i love the emotions.. i love the characters.. i love the writing.. i love the laughter and the sadness.. the intrique and the hard times.. i love how they fight to get together and fight to be together.. it is awesome. i am so glad i got to review it
This was a very emotional best friends-to-lovers romance. I loved it! Loved the characters, the storyline... everything. This author makes you feel a part of Kade and Cameron's journey. Can't wait to read more. *I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.*
I liked Cam , Kade and their little family and I would have given this 4 stars except for the drama at the end with Stephanie that came out of nowhere and made no sense.
Wow this is the story of so many highs and lows and outstanding read Firstly let me thank you A D Ellis, I thoroughly enjoyed this book the storyline was so addictive I just couldn’t put it down and had to read in one sitting. I really liked Kade and Cameron. I thought their relationship was the type of relationship we all strive for and the family unit was so strong honestly I really couldn’t put this book down it’s just so amazing. We start this book on an extremely heartbreaking moment when Cam realises he’s about to lose his husband after his long battle with cancer. But Deacon made him promise that he would love again. He knew that Cam would not have another love like theirs but that didn’t mean Cam couldn’t love again. He wanted Cam to be happy with their sons. And I thought the touch about the rings just exquisite. Kade is Cams best friend. And he had already decided that he was going to stay with his friend and help him through his grief. Thankfully his wife Stephanie agreed to take their two boys home while Kade stayed with Cam. Kade Knew there was problems in his marriage his wife just didn’t wanna be around them anymore she was into partying going out getting drunk and not coming home but right now that was on the back burner. They had got into a pattern of Kade bringing the boys round as all four boys were the same age i.e. the two older boys were 6 younger boys were 4 so they played together so well. It was like Stephanie didn’t even realise that they weren’t at home as much and then as Cade borrow the family computer to pay some bills he found on messenger messages between his wife and a man called Steven and it was obvious they were having an affair. When he spoke to her she didn’t care she said she’d get divorce papers signed he could have the house the kids she just didn’t want any of it. He packed a bag for him and his boys and went straight to Cam, who welcomed them back with open arms. To the point of asking them to stay permanently and Kade agreed. They got into a nice rhythm of taking care of the boys and the cooking, the laundry it just worked out so well. But when Kade let Cam in on a secret that he hadn’t told anyone it changed everything forever. This is such a beautiful book it’s not only about the relationship between Cam and Kade it’s also about grief Cam felt for the loss of his husband it’s about going through a messy divorce with a woman that’s just a psycho mess it’s about being accepted for who you are it’s just outstanding I really couldn’t put it down. I am a massive fan of A.D. Ellis and this book is just another fantastic read
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A wonderfully sweet story about two friends going through all kinds of awful and yet find friendship, and perhaps more, in each other. There's so much to enjoy here in this book to be comfortable recommending it to anyone.
Kade is supportive, sweet, curious, honest, and a really great father. He struggles with Stephanie, and for good reason, and finds assistance, acceptance, and affection in Cameron. I really love how devoted he is to his boys. That devotion puts him in an extremely difficult situation near the end but it just shows how much he loves Myles and Evan.
Cameron is dealing with serious grief and needs an incredible amount of support. He has family and friends, but more importantly, he had Kade. Cam is sweet, a superb father, is honest about his feelings and frustrations, and incredibly understanding. He tries to do his best for his boys and for Kade too, but he needs help and love. I actually love Deacon. We get a glimpse of him at the very beginning, but through Cam's "conversations" with him we see a wonderful man who paved the way for Cam to embrace love as he should be loved.
I wasn't really expecting the level of drama that came near the end. It was surprising and while I'm glad for the resolution that came and how it came, I wished the actual end was longer to give a better sense of closure. The epilogue was very short and aside from a little steam, it was basically a summary of a full life with some platitudes thrown in. Sweet, but not quite fulfilling.
Overall, I really liked this book. I like friends-to-lovers stories as well as single dad stories so this one ticked a ton of boxes for me. The chemistry was there, tenderness, acceptance, and lots of love, so basically a solid win. I willingly read and reviewed his as an ARC from Hidden Gems.
I have said it before and I will say it again, I LOVE this series. Although I loved all the books, this one was definitely my favorite.
(Death+Divorce) + four sons + two sets of supportive parents = Dynamic love story. Ok, that is an incredible oversimplified of this story, but those words are the best way to describe all the elements that made this book my favorite. Cameron and Kade are friends and colleagues. Cameron is dealing with the loss of a man he has loved for over ten years to cancer. Kade is dealing with a marriage that is falling apart. Both of them are dealing with the unexpected role of single parents to two boys each. What better way to deal with oceans of grief but to combine households and support each other through the process.
Some where between the hurt, anger, and loss Kade and Cameron discover their ability to live again and what’s more they find love and comfort in each other. But unlike Cameron’s deceased husband, whose voice appears in Cameron’s internal monologues, Kade’s ex-wife is a very real factor in this relationship. What’s more, she is a very unpredictable factor who could pop up and ruin the new normal these two men have just because she can.
