About the author

Xavier Léon-Dufour est un jésuite et un théologien catholique français, né à Paris le 7 mars 1912 et mort le 13 novembre 2007. Il fut professeur d'Écriture sainte au centre Sèvres et directeur de collections aux éditions du Seuil et aux éditions du Cerf.

Il était notamment connu pour son Vocabulaire de théologie biblique, publié en 1962, une œuvre qui est toujours une référence pour les étudiants en théologie. Il a réalisé des travaux importants sur les évangiles synoptiques et sur l'évangile selon Jean. Il a pris part aux controverses doctrinales qui ont suivi le concile Vatican II.

Xavier Léon Dufour a fait son choix de devenir prêtre à l'âge de 17 ans. Même étant prêtre, Xavier Léon Dufour fut un résistant dans le réseau du sud ouest pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale.
