Gerard and Silveo have joined forces with Gwain to find Gwain’s father in the distant Pendalon Mountains. Leopaard Maijha was driven from his home as a result of their actions, and they want to deliver the message that it’s safe to return. They’ve sailed from the Small Kingdoms in company with the airship Cormorant, but plan to part ways in the Sunkissed Isles.
Goodbyes on the peaceful tropical beaches will be bittersweet, and everyone is looking forward to some time in port before departure. However, a deposed grishnard king has turned up in the Sunkissed Isles with gold, soldiers, and a desire to retake his kingdom. He thinks an airship will be the perfect tool for the job…if he can only find a way to control her captain, Silas Ackleby.

I am listening to the author's notes on the audio version as I begin this review. Abigail Hilton addressed a few things I planned to mention.
Apparently, this series has a softer, gentler ending than she originally planned - and I, as a fan of HEA, am happy about it. I would have been devastated if another essential character didn't make it to the end.
I did find it funny that almost everyone ended up in a throuple (which Ms. Hilton did not realize would happen until it did). Part of one of those throuples is a character we thought we would never see again. . I have mixed feelings about this. The couple was doing well as they were - we had all said our goodbyes - the reunion felt... weird. But everyone was happy in the end.
The story in the installment, as a whole, was good but not great. It relied too heavily on the trope of miscommunication when plenty of other aspects provided sufficient drama to the tale. I cannot express how much I dislike unnecessary drama due to situations that could have been resolved with a single conversation. It drives me insane.
All that being said. I am pleased that I returned to this series. I read the first three Guild of the Cowry Catchers novels years ago. Reading the first installment of this rewrite was like being reintroduced to old friends. All the other books were new to me, and I enjoyed the ride.
A great wrap up for the series. A lot happens, because there is a lot of characters at this point in the story, but Hilton dose a great job juggling them all. I still hope for some short stories and novellas in this world, but I feel satisfied with how it all wraps up.
It was bittersweet saying goodbye to all the characters I've come to know and love throughout this long series. This was a proper sendoff, with closure for everyone, including the reader.
All and all a really solid ending for this series. I loved it so much. I loved seeing all of the character development. And how the world changed so much before our very eyes.
The only thing I would have changed would have been the return of Thess. But I am biased against her. I just never found her an interesting character and much preferred the romantic dynamic between Gerard and Silveo.
That said- her involvement in the end was very well done and it definitely didn’t ruin my opinion of the book as a whole.

Not quite enough time to develop every relationship, and I feel like Silveo and Gerard ended up more in the background, but I do love how nice she was to everyone! Also, throuples, throuples, everywhere!
