A knock on the door in the middle of the night sets off a dangerous and deadly pursuit in this riveting stand-alone entry in the Cain City series.
Ephraim Rivers, a struggling single father on the brink of losing his factory job, is working the graveyard shift when a man with a bullet in his gut stumbles in, whispering of stolen money. Ephraim sees an opportunity to alter the course of his family’s fortunes, and becomes obsessed with finding the loot.
But there are bad men pursuing the treasure—and for them, the opportunity is to seize power and to settle scores. Killing means nothing to them, whether it’s each other—or anyone who gets in their way.
Ephraim just wants to do right—by his son, whose medical bills are piling up; by his father, whose time on this Earth may not be long. But it’s a fine line between desire and greed—and crossing that line could be Ephraim’s final act.
An Audible book. Perfect narration. A single father down on his luck in almost every way possible is at the wrong place at the wrong time and gets thrust into the middle of a gang out for their stolen money and revenge.
The title says it all. Brilliantly exceptional! Thinking “Bad Men Will Come” was not for me and realizing that this book did not continue with “Cash City’s” Nick Malick, I started listening and was immediately gripped from the very first chapter. As the title implies, yes, they will! Author Jonathan Fredrick pens a complexellent and dangerous thriller in the town of Cain City. There is a full cast, including devious characters, as well as kind family members, so listen intently. Ari Fliakos’ narrative skills prove again why he is one of my favorites. His range of precise vocals are pitch-perfect. Following Fredrick’s perplexing and intricate writing, I was completely drawn in and found it hard to take a break. Subplots are screechingly brought to the forefront with whopping surprises, complicated storylines and a jaw-dropping ending. You’ve read the description, so you know the basic plot and I’ll not share any spoilers. Free for members, I was lucky to have gotten this winner at no cost. Yes, indeed, this is worth a credit. I look forward to more by this talented duo in Cain City. Grab it now and enjoy this 9-minute and 10-hour audiction. Epic, I say! EPIC! EPIC! EPIC!
A potboiler thriller - along the lines of No Country for Old Men in that some working class schlub finds bad guy money and wants to keep it but then has to deal with bad guys. Instead of being set in the West, though, it's set in the Deep South. There's some kinda cringe-y stuff in here which I won't go into but also some nice stuff about father-son relations.
