It’s almost Valentine’s Day at Wayfarers Inn, and the Inn Crowd is just days away from hosting Marietta Moonlight, their first sweetheart banquet. To add to the chaos, staff members from a nearby conference are also arriving to stay at the inn. But nothing is going right—the catering company declares bankruptcy, and their guest speaker slips on the ice and fractures her leg, leaving the Inn Crowd in the lurch. Two guests arrive who may be answers to their prayers . . . or the cause of yet more stress. An hour after RJ Dulak and Brin McLoughlin arrive, back-to-back, RJ claims he’s been robbed. Is it just a coincidence that Brin showed up moments after RJ? Janice, LuAnn, and Tess spring into sleuth mode once again, determined to uncover the truth—and prevent the Valentine Villain from spoiling the banquet. Meanwhile, an old photo of Stuart leads Janice to wonder if her son has kept a very big secret from her for the past twenty years.

I initially tried this series because it’s set in Ohio and since, being published by Guideposts, I could be fairly certain it would be clean. Both of those reasons have positively impacted my experience with the series, but I have also really come to enjoy the characters—both Prudence and her work with the Underground Railroad in Marietta (experienced through her journal entries) and Tess, Luann, and Janice, the present day owners of The Wayfarer’s Inn, a B & B housed in the same building where Prudence once worked.
In this book, I especially enjoyed the way that the author included several plot lines in addition to the “main mystery” plot line. It made for quite an enjoyable reading experience, as there was always something to important to glean from each page. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
Another Wayfarers Inn episode. It was OK. The ladies are planning a Valentine Day dinner party and of course there are catastrophies. The catering company goes bankrupt and their guest speaker gets injured. Of course their is the usual mystery when a guest is robbed. I think the story line in this one was weak. All these episodes are written by different authors and some are just better than others.
I really enjoyed this mystery! I definitely want to read more mystery books now. I also love how in this series, you can be sure there aren’t any typically “bad” things like sex or cursing, because it is a faith-filled series. Super enjoyable read; couldn’t put it down!
Book 9 in a Guideposts series following three 50-year old friends who own an Inn, and the mysteries they solve. References to the Underground Railroad. I enjoy it.
