But Not Forsworn

Rate this book
A dead lawyer, a robbery, a woman attacked...Detective Clint Wolf has his hands full in Mechant Loup, Louisiana.A prominent lawyer is found face-down on the desk in his law office, and Detectives Clint Wolf and Amy Cooke respond to investigate. They begin following the evidence, and that evidence seems to suggest the man took his own life. However, something seems odd about the case, and it's not what they find at the scene that's puzzling, but what they don't find. When a woman is mysteriously beaten and robbed in Central Chateau, the case is turned over to the state police. Clint doesn't know why that happened, but when a sworn statement blows up his entire case, things go from confusing to about as bad as they can get.The outcome of the case, as well as Clint's future, will rest in the hands of the woman he loves, but does Susan Wolf have what it takes to turn things around? If she doesn't, the consequences could be fatal.

Excellent police procedural with old enemies, frenemies, new friendlies. Not a stand-alone.

I’ve read most of BJ Bourg’s books in the Clint Wolf series, and this one is up there with my favorites. I read a lot of crime fiction, but this time ‘round, I didn’t have a clue about the identity of the main culprit. This book has it all: old friends and frenemies; domestic abuse and cheating spouses; compromising videos; possible felony DWI destroying careers; burning evidence including a cross; dirty politics and dirtier cops; and even mention of a Mitch Rapp book.

Initially, detectives Clint Wolf and Amy Cooke think a lawyer’s suicide might be straightforward—complete with a fired gun, suicide note, and several good suspects. To my mind, that means BJ Bourg has some wicked twists coming up. A third of the way in, the tale turns mysterious, indeed. The murder storyline begins to morph—becoming more convoluted with subplots involving police from multiple jurisdictions. Both Detective Clint Wolf and Police Chief Susan Wolf are inexplicably stone-walled on the lawyer suicide/murder. Then a Chateau Parish Sheriff’s detective communicates w Clint in code, tells him to get a lawyer, and hangs up.

If you’re a newbie to this series, I suggest you NOT start here. This not the usual mystery series, because the setting is rural Louisiana—with parishes, several small towns, local law enforcement officers, the sheriff & his deputies, and state troopers. Add parish DAs, prosecutors, their investigators, various judges, a parish prison, the archaic prison system, and its corrupt police hierarchy.

Recommended to BJ Bourg and Clint Wolf fans.

BJ Bourg has done it again

The Clint Wolf series is my favorite! The pages just turn themselves. There's never a dull moment or lull. And while its a serious matter at hand you can always count on a few laughs along the way.
One person reviewed this book and said they wouldn't read anymore bc the main character "harmed an animal", that's simply not true. There's no animal harmed in this book at all. What they're referencing happened many books ago and WAS NOT done by Clint!!!

In this installment, an old adversary makes life difficult for Clint as he’s working a crime. And by “difficult” I mean his animosity and incompetence nearly get Clint killed. It almost results in a murderer getting away with multiple crimes.

This book highlights the evils of corruption and ambition in the people and organizations we look to for justice. It’s a thought-provoking commentary within the story.

A new character is introduced, and I hope he becomes a regular down the line. And the ending was something I’ve waited many installments to witness. An easy 4.5 stars.

Almost a five,in fact, since I didn’t know who was responsible for the mess of Clint’s murder, burglary, beating and over all screwed up case and with his life; maybe should have been a five. Clint and Amy go out on a dead body call assuming suicide only to discover murder. During their search for answers, everything goes downhill backwards. Clint has to depend on Amy and Susan to figure things out. One spoiler, the idiot who shot Achilles when he was a pup shows up to make their lives hell.

I believe I've given

all of BJ's previous books five stars, why stop now?? I can never find a flaw in any of BJ's books. I read so fast and am so caught up in the story, I don't have time time to look for mistakes. This book was just as amazing, as all of BJ's other books. Keeps you interested and guessing throughout. Anyone who enjoys mysteries will enjoy his books. I highly recommend reading this book!!

Still great story but poor editing

I have throughly enjoyed every one of the Clint Wolf books. I especially liked the first 10 because I didn't find any editing errors. However, these last few books have had increasingly more glaring editing errors. Have you changed your editor? I would like to offer you my editing services, because poor editing can ruin the enjoyment of a good book.

But not Forsworn by BJ Bourg

Once again, a wonderful, fast-paced thriller. Clint Wolf, himself, ends up in Jail on false charges of murder of a lawyer as well as beating his wife. The actual perpetrator, as with his other novels, is absolutely unexpected and surprising. Eager to read his next, 22nd, book in the Clint Wolf series. On a side note, however, wanted to point out that there are quite a few editorial issues. These should be taken care of.

Error after Error

I’m a fan of the Clint Wolf series. This is the 21st in the series and I have read nothing in between the first in the series and this book. I ignore some of the poor dialogue and obvious errors in the plots of the books because they’re just good stories. I enjoyed this story, but the number of errors by way of typos in this digital edition was distracting. Time for a new editor.

Not my favorite in the series. I thought the ridiculous behavior of the David Monier character was over the top for believability. I don’t remember the character in the previous books leading up to that point and it comes off like an afterthought thrown in with zero development. It was the book’s jump the shark moment, and ruined the story for me. Hopefully it’s not reflective of the rest of the series.

A real thrill ride!

VJ Bourg writes a damn good story. His series are all well written, a real thrill ride to read. Clint Wolf is a hard nosed Louisiana Detective, husband, and father. A small town, with lots of characters, and good old fashioned gritty crime. I highly recommend these books!

So Good

Another wickedly good story by Mr Bourg. A lot of authors writing series tend to burn out after a while and the books get repetitious and the stories start being the same.

This is not the case here. In fact, this might be his best one yet.

Do yourself a favor and read the whole series of you haven't already. So damned good.

You Shot My Dog

Well, I didn't clean my house today because I had to read it all at once. Great storyline, vivid depictions and great ending. I Always enjoy Clint Wolf even if this one doesn't have any water. All the cops appear in this one and they all play a big part in the story which added to great puzzle solving and a fuller storyline.

An excellent read with the best ending

This is my most favorite police procedural series where all the procedures are clearly presented and easy to follow, no convoluted plots. I hope to see Shade in a future book as a member of Susan’s or Clint’s team. And that ending was the BEST!

Strong entry in the series

I have to say that the ending genuinely surprised me. Great characters, tense moments of action, and that twist of a tight plot. The author's background lends the novel's authenticity.

Not too much of a spoiler alert I hope, but the prison riot was not only great action writing, but a really well done introduction of a character we want to see again.

Still a good series. Somewhere along the way these people need to stop getting hurt though. It is all too unbelievable. My only criticism right now is with the editing. The last two books I have noticed many editing errors. That always frustrates me. But otherwise an easy reading and engaging series overall.

Magnificent! Keep them coming, please.

Of all of the many consecutive, sequential crime/detective series I've ever read, the Clint Wolf series is by far my favorite. B J Bourg's writing leaves you wanting for more!

Another winner

Nice one BJ. Yet again BJ Boutg delivers another terrific read. 21 books in and the stories are as fresh and readable as ever, these would make a good T.V. series. Keep at it BJ.

Outstanding books

I read all twenty one books. Each book in one sitting. My attention was held from the first page through the last. I love all the characters. The only sad part is that there are not more.

Awesome Read!

This was one of the best books in the Clint Wolf series. I am an avid reader and I did not even suspect the real killer until the very end. Definitely lives up to the authors reputation.

I like Clothes like to move on so a 21 book series is a little much for me.

This would have been a 4 * rating if not the sudden turn of the story, with an enemy of Clint Wolf working to false charge him. I find the story unbelievable and takes away what would have been an enjoyable and solid story and cast.

Action packed

Clint is investigating an apparent suicide when some discrepancies show up leading him and Amy to believe it is murder. When they try to get a warrant for the house, the wife is beat up and she points the finger at Clint. Great reading with many twists

Refreshingly different

Again he is in danger and out of options, but this time the story has a nice twist and the bad guys are not immediately obvious.
