Avery lives in La La Land with a boyfriend who's totally loaded. Their bond is made strong by a passion for escapism. He pops pills and inhales cocaine, teetering between manic and despondent. She numbs her pain with Mary Jane and exorcisms that combine vodka and razor blades. When her deviance becomes more than her man can handle, he boots her out of his house and revokes her ticket to ride out life in oblivion. So she bungees a box of memories to her motorbike, stuffs her cats in her knapsack, and turns her back on the days of dizzy living. With the pain of the lush life lodged in her veins, Avery sets out on a path to calm the "lightning" in her wires - a journey that's about learning from her mistakes, and learning how to accept herself entirely - one that alters her love life eternally.
Caitlin Avery writes about women whose lives are amiss and can’t resist dangerous impulses. She's the author of the award-winning adventure/thriller, The Last Cruz, its up-and-coming sequel, Grief and Grace, and her recently released commercial fiction, Life of Cyn. Her first book, a coming-of-age memoir, is called Lightning in my Wires. When she's not inventing transformative adventures for her readers, she loves to indulge in them. A triathlete, mountain biker, backpacker, black-diamond skier, and yoga enthusiast, she lives outside of Boston with her husband and son, and the cat and dog who rescued her. The book is fantastic! The depth of feeling conveyed will make readers feel a sense of similarity and a desire to just sit and chat with you about all these things! I shed a few tears, I got angry at some of the people you knew and want to meet some of them too! I think the most important thing for me when I read a book is for it to create a new world for me and cause some emotion. I felt a LOT of emotion reading this. I loved it and I think anyone else that reads it will too. It is inspiring.
Lightening in my Wires This book took me for a ride, the author indulges us with some raw, personal truths. As the MC is seeking love she learns many life lessons about herself and past behaviour. I liked the honesty of the writer, sharing ugly and vulnerable truths. This book felt spiritual for me, I loved reading about the MC connection with a belief. I am a sucker for a happy ending but this book was also the messy before, reading the story and how much she grew as a person. Self awareness and knowledge are powerful tools, this book includes many meaningful messages. I am keen to know about what did happen to her best friend who moved away. I liked the pace and the style of writing, it was engaging and interesting.
You don't often come across a book that is so brutally honest about life and the journey and quest for something better, and this memoir captures this experience very well. The author's voice is strong and clear, and makes you want to keep reading, even when she's describing difficulties. We all have difficulties and that is the thread that is common and will connect all kinds of readers to this story. You definitely find yourself rooting for her, hoping she'll find the strength to grow and she does. It's a satisfying read, for sure, and it will stay with you even after you've finished. I look forward to the next book.
Not all voyages of discovery must involve physical luggage, planes, trains, and a passport. If you are burdened with a load of guilt and self-hatred, your best destination is yourself. It worked for Caitlin Avery and in this book she tells you how she conquered her demons and found a lasting love. Read and learn how to love yourself and make others love you. This author has the talent for becoming a big name.
