We cannot judge a song by it's duration.
Nor by the number of its notes.
We must judge it by the way it touches and lifts our souls.
Sometimes those unfinished are among the most beautiful.

Two different people, living two different lives and yet intertwined in a way that both beautiful and tragic.

I'll be honest, YA is not my genre of choice nor is it something I'd often make an exception to read...except when it's Vi Keeland. When I saw she was coming out with this book along with another author, I didn't even read the blurb before adding this to my TBR. And you know what? I'm glad I did. While it may not have been my preferred genre, I did really enjoy it.

Zack Martin

This is not your typical YA hero. He was sweet and endearingly confident without being cocky. This wasn't a playboy or womanizer. Nor was he the party boy or wild child. I knew I'd really like Zach in just a few short pages. The popular quarterback with an equally popular and beautiful cheerleader girlfriend, his life should be every teenage boy's dream...and yet it's not. Emily, his girlfriend, has been his best friend since she moved in next door when they were both just 10 years old. But lately, things aren't the same, she's not the same. And then one day his whole world drops out from under him...

Nikki Fallon
Miles away from California, where Zack lives, Nikki just lost her mother. Left an orphan she's desperate to find some way out without being put into the system...when she finds a letter from her mother that changes everything

What happens when fate brings two people together through a veil of hidden secrets, emotional loss, and a love story?
I haven't been able to think about anything but kissing you for days.

That's pretty much all the information you need. This is just one of those books you're best going into blind.
It is a bit of a slow built at first. I'll admit that I thought I had figured out the twist pretty much at 5%, and while I was right about a part of it...the authors definitely made the twist a lot more interesting than I had originally assumed. Though it was still slightly more predictable than I had expected.

This was a quick read, but I found myself wishing it was a little bit longer simply because I felt that the ending wrapped up too quickly. I wanted just a bit more from that. But even taking all that into consideration, I did enjoy it and would definitely recommend it to any lovers of YA. This was a step away from what I usually read, but I don't regret it for a second.

Left Behind is a story about a young girl named Nikki. She has grown up taking care of her bi polar mother. It's been tough living in a trailer in Texas. For the longest time she thought the only family she had was her mom and her best friend. After her mother passes away, she learns that she has an aunt that lives in California. Not only that, but she also has a twin sister she never knew about. She moves in with her aunt and hopes to find her sister without letting her aunt find out.

This book also tells you the story of Zack, a young guy from California who loves his girlfriend Emily. They met when they were nine years old and have been inseparable since. But time has changed them as they have grown into young adults. Emily is no longer the same girl he fell in love with. She cares about superficial things and he finds himself feeling conflicted about his feelings for her. Everything changes for him in an instant when his girlfriend passes away in a car accident. Now, all he feels is guilt.

Six months go by since the both Zack and Nikki's lives changed so suddenly. And now life has brought them together. Nikki is starting school in California, and when she decides to go out for a run she sees Zack for the first time. Both of then are intrigued by one another. And as they start getting to know each other, they realize they have a lot in common. They understand each other, and make each other feel things they haven't felt in a long time. The problem is, Zack feels guilty about his feelings for Nikki, and Nikki makes a discovery that could ruin everything.

This was really an enjoyable book. I was very interested when it came to learning about Zack and Nikki's lives. I liked how we got to see how their lives were like before they met. I also very loved that fact that this was told in alternating POV. I liked the characters very much. Zack was super sweet and romantic. He had some frustrating moments but he was going through a lot. Nikki was quite mature for her age, which I really liked. She also had her moments but that is to be expected from young characters.

I will say that I was expecting this to be a whole lot more emotional than what I got. I was able to connect to the characters and did feel for them, but I didn't cry or anything. There wasn't a crazy amount of angst in this, there was just a little to keep things interesting. While I very much enjoyed the story line, I was able to guess what was going to happen next. Because of this, I wasn't shocked by the big twist in the book. What I did love about this book, was watching Zack and Nikki fall for each other. It was so freaking sweet the notes Zack would give Nikki that it made my heart melt. I loved the ending! Overall, it was a wonderful YA romance. I was hooked on the connection between Zack and Nikki. I also enjoyed some of the secondary characters in this book. It was really great and something worth giving a try.

This sounds amazing!!!!!

Two stories so deeply intertwined, you'll think you know how they intersect, but you'll be wrong...

Zack Martin
The day I met Emily Bennett my whole world changed. Sure, we were just kids, but I was old enough to know my life would never be the same. She was my best friend. My destiny. My fate. I wasn’t wrong…I just didn’t know how twisted fate could be.

Nikki Fallon
After the death of my mother, moving from my dark and dreary trailer park to sunny California, I was focused on one thing – finding a sister I’d only just learned existed. Falling in love with him wasn’t part of the plan. But he filled a void I never knew was possible to fill. He had to be my fate. My destiny. Until the day I finally found out who my sister was…and how twisted fate could be.

Title: Left Behind

Cliffhanger: No
HEA:

 photo 08FB12D7-EE98-4216-B841-9A8043C7929E_zpsqov4kqrq.jpg

Unlike most seventeen year olds, Nikki Fallon isn't thinking about hanging out with friends or the next big party; she's busy dealing with the aftermath of her mother's death. Having grown up with mother with bipolar disorder, she's moved around a lot within Texas and has to assume much more responsibility than regular girl of her a age.

Whilst organising her mother's things Nikki happens upon a letter that changes everything she thought she every knew. After discovering she is a fraternal twin and has an Aunt who lives in California, Nikki decides to start her search for more answers and the family she never had.

Zack Martin is also dealing with loss. After months of isolation, Nikki's arrival brings hope and confusion. They bond initially through their escapism of jogging but then start to slowly open up to one another on a deeper level and budding friendship develops into something more.

Something changed on that hill tonight. There’s an unspoken bond between us. It’s always been there, we just hadn’t acknowledged it existed.

I have to admit I got a little cocky about 20% in as I thought I had predicted how this story would play out, and although I was wrong, I wasn't totally surprised. That however didn't take away from of the enjoyment for me. Admittedly I felt it was a slow start but by the end I was completely wrapped up in the story and taken with them them as a such a sweet couple, It was impossible not to hope that that the answers to questions sought wouldn't be too much to bear and after a rough start and emotional journey Nikki and Zack would have their Happy ever After.

In Left Behind, Vi Keeland and Dylan Scott team up to bring you a young adult romance that revolves around a story of tragic loss and restoring hope. Fate.

Nikki spent her life moving around central Texas and taking care of her mother. But when her mother passes, Nikki is not quite yet 18 and is either going to be moved to a foster home or move to California to live with an Aunt she never knew existed.

Zack saw her when he was just nine years old. The girl on the yellow bike, the one he knew he’d love. Eight years later, Emily is still standing next to him. Although she isn’t always the same girl he remembered as a child. One night changes everything, Zack never imagined that life could be so cruel.

Nearly six months have passed when Zack sees her, the girl from the track. The one that makes him feel something again. The one that seems to understand the loss that he feels. Learning to let go of the guilt of feeling something for this girl, Zack begins to fall, more deeply than he knew was possible.

But a new start isn’t the only thing that led Nikki to California. She has a sister, a twin. A piece of her she never knew existed. She knows the answers can be found in California, but nothing could have prepared her the truth that she was going to discover.

Although this venture into the genre of Young Adult was a little different than what I’ve come to love from this author, the collaboration with Dylan Scott on this book was very much enjoyed. Even though the twist wasn’t buried too deep in the story, I found that I was still excited to see how it would play out. Both Nikki and Zack were very likable characters and were easily to get lost in. I did feel like I was lacking a bit of an emotional connection at times. There was potential for this to have a very emotional moment, but I think that figuring out the story line early on, turned that moment down a few notches. I was prepared for it, so when it happened I sort of glazed over the emotional impact of it.

The story is told in dual POV’s that start off with giving you a glimpse into both their lives before the move to California and their meeting. I enjoyed being able to be a voyeur into both their lives as this story unfolded. I absolutely loved the little notes, I am sucker for these sweet little gestures in books. Something so simple outshines the grandest of gestures and this just made loving Zack a little easier.

A wonderfully told coming of age Young Adult romance that shines a little bit of light in the darkness of loss and shows you that not all hope is lost when you lose someone you love. That sometimes things happen a certain way, in the most crushing ways, to bring you something so beautiful that the all the pain is worth it, because without it you wouldn’t have experienced the love.

This change in scenery for VK was refreshing and although I love her more adult titles, I would definitely not hesitate to pick up another YA title if she ever decides to write another. After all, Keller and Ash might just have a story that is yet to be discovered.

Left behind was a very sweet romance that left me with a wide smile on my face and my heart feeling a little lighter. A love story of two kids where the usual angst and drama fueled story lines didn’t exist because their own experiences were enough to drive the story forward.

Images to come soon.

Intriguing. Emotional. Beautiful. Simply brilliant!

Left Behind was indeed an emotional roller coaster ride from beginning to end. A ride you'll never wanted to end. The story was sweet and smart, and quite unique...definitely NOT your usual young adult story. The intriguing element in the story will have you guessing and second guessing yourself as you fall in love with the characters and try to unravel their secrets. I do not typically enjoy young adult fiction because it contains so much youthful angst. Oh sure, Nikki and Zack have their moments but they are both dealing with some heavy life issues so it's to be expected. I cannot say enough good things about this story. Brava!!! to the authors.

3.5 – mixed stars

I have mixed feelings on this one. I love Vi Keeland and this is my first Dylan Scott read, but there’s a lot of parts in Left Behind where I cringed and kind of rolled my eyes.

Overall, I love the storyline. There’s Nikki. She lives in a trailer and one day her mother dies. Niki has to pick up the pieces of her life, but she realizes her mother kept a huge secret from her. Nikki has a twin sister. Nikki goes to California to look for her.

Zack is in love with Emily. They grew up with each other, but Emily isn’t the girl he grew up with. She is popular and very self-absorbed. Zack is starting to rethink his relationship with Emily but he keeps on remember how she was growing up.

Eventually Zack and Nikki meet and the crazy story begins…

The Beginning

I was kind of confused with the beginning. I started to read about Zack and Emily’s relationship and I kind of question who the Heroine was. Is Zack suppose to be with Emily? Why does he put up with her? She’s really really really mean. Like a super mean girl.

The story line flips back and forth between Nikki and Zack and there’s a good portion where they two aren’t interacting with each other. One story is about Zack and Emily and the other is Nikki realizing her mother’s past.

I felt like Nikki finding out about her mom took a long time to be revealed. I wanted to scream, yeah I get it. She had another baby. Okay, pack up your stuff and go to Cali already.

The Middle

When Zack and Nikki meet, it’s very anticlimactic. I wanted Zack to go crazy nuts when he first meets Nikki, but he kind of shows disinterest and you are scratching your head and questioning what that was about.

Zack is a complete jerk to Nikki and as much as I like a moody Hero, I couldn’t get into him. He was too into his world and Nikki, well she should focus more on finding her sister than wondering what Zack was thinking.

The ending

Things start to roll into place and chips start to fall and it all becomes very obvious. I wanted a crazy twist but I got none of that. It’s very like I said, anticlimactic and at which point I got very annoyed.

First issue

Second issue

Third issue

I had to hide all of my issues because it gave away major parts of the book, but I had to vent about it. Even though the characters are in high school, I still felt like everyone acted very young. Are kids really that immature? Overall, I liked the storyline, but it just felt a bit too angsty and obvious to me.

"Love needs no words
You had me before you even spoke"

So , If you know anything about the kinds of books I read , You would know that reading a book with a blurb containing the names of 2 different women is a big NO for me. but this time , I decided to try to push my limits a little and I'm so glad I did.

I LOVED this book , there was something so refreshing about it . It was just different from the way it started . It introduced us to Nikki and Zack's separate lives , and then the way their lives intersected . I couldn't put it down.

I want to say a lot about the story but I really don't want to spoil anything so I'll start by talking about the characters ,

Zack , He's an 18 year old guy with an amazing heart . It was really great reading about a hero who isn't a man-whore , who is actually a good guy with a good family . His best friend growing up was Emily , they've know each other since they were kids , and started dating later on , but not everything is as perfect as it seems . I really loved Zack , My heart ached for him at times .He had a way of making me melt at his words and his actions . I understood him , I really did , even when I disagreed with him , I got where he was coming from and that's the most important thing because his heart was always in the right place .

Nikki , She was such a great heroine , she had a really hard life , I sympathized with her a lot , She was caring for her ill mother , and never got a stable home , but she was still strong , smart and held her own. She just found out that she has a sister , so she moved to California looking for her , I cried with her more than once . I liked how relatable her actions where , the guilt she felt about not opening up to the people close to her made me love her more . It made her more real to me .

Together , they were the definition of Great Young Love . They were really sweet together , they had their special place , their special way of communicating and I loved that . They bonded emotionally first , before rushing to the physical part . It wasn't easy for them and each of them went through a lot but the way they seemed to lean on each other made their bond that much stronger.

The book was really emotional , it broke my heart at times , it made me swoon and melt , and I really got invested. I wanted the book to be longer , I wanted more of them , I felt like I needed to see them after the betrayals and secrets were revealed , but I guess I'm thankful for the Epilogue :)

The secondary characters were strong .My favorites were Ashley , Nikki's BF and Keller , Zach's BF, they added humor to the story and represented two great friendships . I would read a story about them :)

PS. I do have some comments on the book , but I can't say anything without spoiling So maybe I'll leave it until the release day . And Keep in mind , this is a YA book so of course , it is low on the steam factor , but the chemistry was there !

I knew where this was going after the first two chapters.

Read the blurb. Nikki moves to California to find her fraternal twin sister. She falls in love with Zack. The kicker? The twin sister was Zack's dead bitchy girlfriend who he was in love with for years. It was a bad book choice.

"Stars can't shine without a little darkness."

The story Left Behind is one great story. A sweet emotional roller coaster read that which the author captures the attention of young love. I think its a bit different on what the author usually writes but in this case she nailed it. She makes you fall in love with her characters and makes you intrigued on the secrets and drama. The story flows perfectly and I really love the chemistry between Nikki and Zack. The connection they shared between two characters and how they both grow. Over all it was a good and enjoying read that hooked me up fast. Definitely recommended to those who love this type of story. Great book and beautiful cover.

‘Minutes, hours and days disappear. I’m alive, but I’m not really living. It’s what I deserve. I don’t deserve to feel…’

So from one tearjerker to another we leapt right onto another ride of ‘tear our hearts out and stamp on them’ as we lived a tragic journey with Nikki and Zack. One of heart ache, grief and devastating revelations. We fell in love with both of them; their hearts genuine and broken looking to mend and heal though love and hope.

You live a life the best you can and the life you lead you take the best from. Well, what happens when the rug is pulled from beneath your feet and you learn of secrets that highly impacts on who you thought you were and who you may now be? Does it change who you truly are?

‘Love needs no words. You had me before you even spoke.’

Poor Nikki; she didn’t grow up under the best conditions, living in a trailer park with a sick Mum and a life that took her all over the place. She grew up running and never stopped until the day she loses her Mum and learns of an aunt and a twin sister. Nikki has no one then suddenly there’s hope of a connection and of family. Nothing’s ever easy though and her journey brings her so many discoveries both heart-breaking and hopeful. Nikki finds love. Nikki finds a place to belong. Nothing comes without a price though and Nikki bless her, really goes through the ringer in order to find what she truly deserves for who she truly is. A beautiful young woman with a huge heart.

‘I wish he had remained silent. Never let me hear his voice. Never let me in. Only to push me out.’

As for Zack; we fell in love with his character. He lost his heart and childhood in one night and lives with guilt and what if’s. Better the devil you know despite how things may change over years. The head may argue but the heart still loves what it knows. He was a beautiful character who wore his heart on his sleeve. Sometimes pure romance is not what you say but how you say it.

“Everything is better with you. I’m better with you.”

We loved this story though have to say we guessed the twist and saw it coming a mile off. However, this didn’t spoil our reading experience too much as we cried, felt so incredibly emotional and wanted to wrap Nikki and Zack in our arms. We highly recommend this story especially for readers who like to truly FEEL!

I really enjoyed this book...saw where it was heading but still completely enjoyed the voyage! Full review closer to release!

5+ Stars
Reading for me is an escape…from reality…the day in and day out…I am not a reader that questions a plot to much…I don’t look too deep into the overlay(…I do try to figure out what the hell is going on and come up with plot twists and scenarios that sometimes play out but usually are so far off the mark I’ve embarrassed myself..back to my review) and YA books for me are the perfect escape. First love…the butterflies of a touch, a kiss and the hearts finally finding each other…GOD I love it, when done right! Dylan Scott and Vi Keeland did it perfectly.

This story stained my soul…left it’s mark and stayed with me long after the last page of my kindle was swiped…it is the kind of story that I gravitate to, the broken boy, the lost and hardly noticed girl that just wants to fly under the radar. Together they are electric…together they exist for the first time. Fate can be a bitch and when she bounds into your life like a wrecking ball, all you can do is hang on enjoy the ride and hope that when all the pieces land you can find enough of them to put yourself back together.

I can’t recommend this book enough. It is worth your money, time and space in your heart that it will forever occupy! I hope Ms. Scott and Ms. Keeland continue their writing ventures and bring us more…please!

4.5 stars!

4.5 stars!

I was so excited to read the latest book by Vi Keeland and Dylan Scott!

Things I loved:
- Alternating POV - LOVE this style
- The writing - totally sucked me in! I couldn't stop reading.
- Zack - Loved getting in his mind. Love it that he wasn't stuck up. Loved it that he was emotional.
- The feels - oh, this book made me feel everything. I laughed...and I cried, and everything in between.
- No insta-love. Zack tries his hardest to fight it. Loved watching them connect despite themselves.

Things I did not like: you know the "twisted fate" part pretty early on. So when it gets revealed to the characters, it didn't have the same impact on me.

This book is about self discovery. I loved watching Zack and Nikki grow throughout the book. I loved that Zack and Nikki made each other stronger.

Highly recommend!

How anyone could fail to be moved by this story is beyond me.

I liked the way the author started the book telling the different life stories of Emily and Nikki. As a reader, I got an insight to how both girls lived. One grew up in a very privileged lifestyle with all the trappings money could buy. The other, in the basic of trailers with a mentally ill mother.

Even before the real story started, I felt invested in the characters. My favourite was Nikki. She hadn't had an easy life and life had delivered a devastating blow to her which created a deep sadness.

I was introduced to Zack, Emily's boyfriend. He was under her thumb, her lap dog, her toy. She treated him quite badly and was not really the nicest of people. Her only concern was image and societal position. he seemed like a nice guy and I felt sorry for him being dragged along a path that it was quite obvious that he didn't want to be on.

When Nikki was forced to move to her Aunt's house, I was glad she found a kindred spirit in Zack. I liked his little quirks of giving her notes and I liked her little oddity of not unpacking her boxes.

I really don't want to say much more because I don't want to accidentally give away any of the plot or spoil it for other people.

What I will say is that Ms Keeland has written a story that is heartbreaking. It deals with loss and betrayal. It deals with feelings that youngsters can have a hard time dealing with. Her penmanship is beautiful. I felt like I was floating on the edge of despair for Zack and for Nikki. Nikki was such a powerfully written character that I couldn't help falling a little bit in love with her. I wanted to protect her from hurting. I could totally understand Zack's feelings and how he didn't want to betray a ghost.

This book is well presented with a beautiful cover....even the girl on the cover has that haunted faraway look about her, like she has suffered loss.

An excellent read that I would definitely recommend.

Vi Keeland is a favorite author of mine and I was excited to read her young adult romance written with Dylan Scott. Both sweet and sexy at the same time, Left Behind is a wonderful story of loss, strength, emotion and first love. The story is very engaging and the characters are very real. Nikki and Zack’s story totally drew me in, and once I started, I read this book in one sitting.

Told in alternating POV’s, which actually become one story, Left Behind tells the story of Nikki, who relocates to California after the death of her mother. Having lived a very lonely and sad life, she is apprehensive about starting over. But Nikki is very strong because she had to grow up at an early age. She doesn’t want anyone’s pity and just wants to be a normal teenager.

To her eyes, Zack lives an almost-perfect life, with a stable family and seemingly happy home life. But Zack has faced a terrible tragedy and is dealing with it in his own way. Angry and guilt-stricken, he is confused over his feelings for Nikki. There is a twist to this story that wasn’t really a surprise, but I was literally holding my breath through most of this book, hoping against hope that nothing would come between Nikki and Zack!

The authors really hit a home run with Zack. He took my breath away! Zack is one incredibly sweet, romantic and sexy guy. I loved Zack and Nikki together. I also love how this book dealt with some very adult subjects in a very sensitive way. This book contained just the right mix of sexy romance and emotion. Combined with the inventive story, it is great young adult book.

I pretty much guessed this book from the beginning.... Sometimes that makes for a boring read, sometimes you really just want to find out how it leads up to the answer.

This book started off slow for me....I wasn't really into it, and it crossed my mind to DNF it, but....knowing what I thought was going to happen, I decided I really wanted to see how it was played out. I am glad I finished it....this book was really good! I enjoyed their growing relationship, and I liked the outcome. A few little things bugged me here and there, but its stuff that can be overlooked.

I won't call it a favorite of the year, but I am glad I stumbled upon it.

- No co, to najlepsza sałatka! - Odpowiedział z urazą w głosie, wyciągając łyżkę w kierunku miski. Udawał, że się złości, ale widziałam jego uśmiech.
- Jedz, jedz, smacznego. Ja muszę pisać. Już nawet wiem, jak zacznę. - Uniosłam go góry palec wskazujący.
- Jak?
- Ekhem. Znalazłeś pod choinką bon prezentowy do ulubionej księgarni? Nie wiesz, jaką książkę kupić? Już wiesz! Koniecznie kup…
* „To, co za nami” - Dylan Scott, Vi Keeland *
- Koniecznie kup tę książkę. Jedyna taka okazja!
- To ta o latarniach morskich?
- Zapamiętałeś - wymieniliśmy porozumiewawcze spojrzenie - tak, to ta.
_
To właśnie ta.
- Jakub? Ja tylko… Ja chciałam powiedzieć, że… - stanęłam za nim i objęłam jego szyję. - Że…
On na pewno się uśmiechnął.
I już nieistotne, to, co za nami.
_
Już to mówiłam, ale podkreślę też tutaj. Gdy ktoś spyta mnie o ciekawy romans niepozbawiony trudnych doświadczeń, będę polecać właśnie ten.

Nikki and Zack. She is from Texas, he lives in California. They meet after both having faced a lost in their lives. They hang out and eventually they create a bond that becomes stronger as time passes. All is great until a secret is revealed that reaps apart Nikki's heart.. She can't trust anyone now- she is shattered into pieces and she runs back to the place she considers as home.
A sweet romance that shows that through loss, we can find the courage and become alive again.

Another winner for Miss Keeland. She changed up her target audience and still did a slam dunk.

Left Behind is not your usual young Adult Story. The author took on a heavy topic and handled it beautifully. Writing about the family members who deal with the after effects of mental illness in a romantic setting is not an easy thing to do. Miss Keeland made it look easy. I was vested in this story from the get go. Nikki and Zack were two of the most engaging characters I have read in a long time. Zack with his old world charm made me fall in love with him from the first page. Nikki dealt with her issues in a typical teenage way but still showed her strength in the way she handled the heavy issues that she was dealt.

The supporting casts of characters in the book were great. I cannot wait for this series (I hope it is a series) to continue with their stories.

I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.

I felt really sorry for Nikki throughout this. Having her mother die, and then finding out something that big would be reallly hard to deal with.

This was an okay read, but I found it really predictable. I guessed how the two stories were conneted to each other very early on. It wasn't a surprise when it was revealed at all.
I also found the story to be quite slow in areas, so there was a few times where I felt bored.

Overall, Okay read, but very predictable.
