Kaj Munk havde i trediverne nærmet sig til fascismen, men efterhånden vendte han sig mere og mere imod nazismen. Under besættelsen skrev han sange, der kaldte til modstand, og hans sidste prædiken i Vedersø kirke var ikke til at tage fejl af. Derfor myrdede tyskerne ham 4. januar 1944. Men hans sange og prædikener spredte ud over hele landet som illegale skrifter og inspirerede til aktiv modstand.

Kaj Harald Leininger Munk was a Danish playwright and Lutheran priest, known for his cultural engagement and his martyrdom during the Occupation of Denmark of World War II. He is commemorated as a martyr in the Calendar of Saints of the Lutheran Church on August 14, alongside Maximilian Kolbe.
