Hij heeft veel gezien en geleerd van de verschillende culturen, religies en manieren van leven. Het reizen maakte hem tot de persoon die hij vandaag is. En met haken is dat net zo... This is a beautifully illustrated book with patterns based on Mark's travels around the world. This book is not for the beginner, most of the patterns are very intricate and would be hard for a novice to follow. The 12 patterns do not include instructions. Mr. Roseboom is known as the Guy with a hook and has a website and blog for crochers.

This is a beautiful book but it is definitely for the advanced crocheter. There are only pattern no instruction. For those who can't read a pattern this would be daunting.
I like the fact that the different projects come from his travels.

Some lovely designs, but definitely not a book for everyone. Intricate patterns without extra explanation or tips. Good for the confident crocheter looking for a challenge.

This is a nice quality book, nice pictures and stories about the patterns. I was able to read and follow the patterns to the extent that I looked at them, although I did have some questions about them, which I think would make it hard for me to actually make something from the book - I do love my YouTube video tutorials to help with those, but I realise that these projects would need really huge videos, so I can't imagine the work involved in that. But if it were doable, I think it would be good to have a DVD (or several) accompanying the book to help out with some of the finer points.

The projects in the book are definitely not for beginners. I am not a beginner and I probably could do most of the techniques that the patterns require, but I would maybe have some points of confusion as mentioned above.

I think it's a good book to borrow (it was given to me) rather than to own, unless you really think you will do some of the patterns in it. But I wonder how many people will actually attempt them. Probably some people who are more keen and patient than me. But I can imagine a lot of people wouldn't do them.

Ik volg al een tijdje de blog van deze schrijver en weet dat hij mooie creaties haakt en ontwerpt.
Dus ik twijfelde niet toen hij aankondigde dat hij een boek zou uitgeven met patronen.
Het boek is zeer mooi vormgegeven met mooie foto's. Het bevat patronen die telkens gelinkt zijn aan een reis die de schrijver maakte.
De inspiratie vanuit die reis is altijd zeer goed overgebracht in het haakontwerp. Je ziet effectief de Portugese tegeltjes in het door hem ontworpen kussen en het licht van Groenland in de sjaal.
De bijbehorende teksten behoren niet tot de beste literatuur, ze zijn soms een beetje knullig geschreven vind ik. Maar vermits het boek niet in de eerste plaats over de tekst gaat, vind ik dat niet erg.
Ik kan niet beoordelen of de werkbeschrijvingen goed zijn want ik heb er nog niks uit gemaakt. Maar het boek doet me wel zin krijgen om de haakpen terug ter hand te nemen. Het werkt dus zeker inspirerend.
