Disclaimer: I read this book after being threatened by Lana and Alleskelle of bodily harm.

At first I said no. Just on principle but duh, I'm not a wuss and I can out-ninja those two anytime. Second reason for saying no, initially, was the fact that this sounds like a love triangle.

And love triangles makes me RAGEY!

But since I was assured that it wasn't what I thought it was, I took the plunge. And...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And they were right. This wasn't a love triangle at all. It was funny with plenty of great female characters to cheer on, and it has ice cream. And booze.

But most of all, it has Hunter Morgan and Cameron Mathis. Ryleigh is a lucky girl. If I had been a character in this book, I probably won't be able to choose and I'll be like one of those annoying, indecisive heroines who can't choose between two hot guys. Thankfully, Ryleigh has more sense than I do. I love a heroine who has dreams and aspirations outside of getting the hero, and Ryleigh's dreams is front and center in this book.

I'm glad I picked this book up despite my reservations because I really enjoyed the story and the characters. Guess, I'm going to add another series to my must-read list because I can't wait to read more about Ryleigh's friends in the upcoming books.

If I were truly honest with myself, which guy would I choose? The man I'd always wanted? Or the man I'd never forget?

Now that, my friends, is how you write a love triangle. Because honest to god, if every love triangle was written this way, I'd actually read them. Having said that, when I found a teaser on Brooke's Facebook page that hinted at a love triangle, I may or may not have threatened her with a slow and painful death. Because if you follow my reviews or know me at all, you know I absolutely hate love triangles. Having loved all her previous books, I decided to put my faith in her and dive right in, and boy am I glad I did because this was nothing like I expected.

If you notice, I didn't do my usual casting for this book, and there's a reason for that. I want you to go into this book knowing exactly the same amount that I did...which is practically nothing. It's better that way. If you're a love triangle avoider like myself, I beg you to give this a try and guarantee you will not be even a little bit sorry. So let's move onto the review now, shall we?

Ryleigh Phillips has got to be one of the most adorably endearing heroines I have read in a good long while. Everything from her quirky rockabilly style, to her internal monologue, to her banter with her best friends, just worked for me. She's funny, sassy, and just one of those heroines you want to be your very own best friend. She's so lively, she practically jumps off the pages at you. Brooke did such a great job introducing a cast of secondary characters in the form of her best friends that grabbed all my attention from the go.

Raleigh is the successful owner of Licked, an eclectic ice cream joint that I'd probably be a frequent visitor of. Why? Well because who wouldn't love a full set of Love Balls like Fiesty Ho-Bag or Cookie Dil-dough? I know I would. But I digress. Ryleigh was a bit of an outcast in high school. But now she's grown into her style and is a successful business owner. So she attends her ten year high school reunion with the hopes of running into her old crush, Cameron. But of course nothing ever goes according to plan, because while she may have now caught the attention of her high school crush, it's his best friend and roommate that undoubtedly captures her. So what's a girl to do?

Hunter is nothing like her usual type. But when he volunteers to take over her shop's renovations, she can't avoid him. And he's determined to have her too. So which one does she go with? The man she's always crushed on? Or the man that she can't stop thinking about?

Licked is one of those feel good and light hearted reads that will have you reading with a goofy smile on your face the entire time. It's light on angst and stupid drama (as in none of it), and heavy on the humor and the sexy. I devoured it like my favorite pint of Ben & Jerry's. Everything about it worked for me; the romance, the characters, and most of all the writing. Brooke Blaine doesn't just take on new genres with each book she writes, she grabs it by the throat and calls it her bitch. The woman is a true rockstar. What a fun little read this was.

Endearingly quirky, laugh out loud funny, and deliciously sexy! Licked was absolutely luscious! I loved every yummy page of it. What a fantastic start to a series I can already tell I'll be addicted to!

I got Licked…and I enjoyed it too ;)

I think I spent the whole day with my mind in the gutter. Licked had the smutty in me smirking and giggling with my boasting going far and wide that I GOT LICKED. This book grabbed my attention a little while back with it’s bright and beautiful cover and catchy title. Then the chitter chatter started about this book that was funny, smutty and full of licking…ice-creams. Hmmm…very, very interesting, a highly successful business that caters to ice-cream lovers who don’t mind mixing it with a little bit of alcohol too. I can’t say I’ve seen too many stories set in an ice-cream shop. This is not your average ice-cream parlour though, Licked is pretty much Adults Only. All of the ice-creams have naughty names and meanings behind them.

Ryleigh is an individual and has been her whole life. She loves the fashion, music, and movies of the 50’s and 60’s. Even when she was in high school she dressed in vintage type clothing with halter tops, swing skirts or pencil skirts with a flip at the bottom and high-heeled pumps. It wasn’t easy to grow up different and for a little while, she tried to be like everyone else. It just didn’t suit her. The older Ryleigh got the more comfortable she became being original. She owned it and gained confidence in her individuality. Her best friends are her biggest supporters and like a family to her. They encourage her to return to her old high school for a 10-year reunion. She wants to see her high school crush Cameron and show him what he missed out on by ignoring her back then.

Funny thing is…Cameron saw her…and remembers her really well.

The romance portion of Licked is not straight forward. Ryleigh and Cameron connect at the reunion and it seems like there is great potential for this couple. Then Ryleigh meets Cameron’s roommate Hunter and she can’t get him out of her head. With her friends help, Ryleigh must make a decision on who she wants in her life. Her old crush who’s still hot and very sweet - O R - the sexy new guy who’s a contractor that ends up saving the day when Ryleigh needs some renovations done at Licked. Decisions, decisions? Ryleigh has HOT and SWEET on one hand and SEXY and LIFE-SAVER on the other?

I really enjoyed this story and got sucked in from the beginning to the end. I felt that the drama at the end was a little over the top, unnecessary and even a little rushed. The characters were easy to love and become attached too. I can’t wait for her friends to get their own story too.

Now that I’ve been Licked, it’s time to meet the Hooker.

”When the lines between relationships and friendships blur, and it's impossible to choose between two delicious flavors, what's a girl to do? Taste a sample of each? Or go out and get LICKED?

[image error]

Retro Ryleigh Phillips has come into her own since high school. Heading to her ten year reunion has her super excited to speak to her teenage crush, Cameron Mathis. Things with Cameron go even better than she expects. He’s grown up and sees the wonderful woman she is, only problem is that she more attracted to his roommate, Hunter Morgan.

”If I were truly honest with myself, which guy would I choose? The man I’d always wanted? Or the man I’d never forget?”

Ryleigh is the owner of an eclectic ice creamery and bar called Licked. She is in the process of turning the back room into a night club and when her contractor screws up her timeline, Cameron offers Hunter’s help in making the deadline. With preconceived ideas on the type of man Hunter is and Cameron away on business (the two not even sharing a first kiss yet) Ryleigh and Hunter fall in love.

The story is light on the angst and drama and it made for one enjoyable, sexy, sweet, funny and delicious read!

Title: Licked
Series: L.A. Liaisons, #1
Author: Brooke Blaine
Release date: 11th November, 2015
Cliffhanger: No
HEA:

If there's something I've discovered about Brooke Blaine, it's that she's quite the writing chameleon. Be it suspense, erotica or comedy, Brooke manages to serve up a tasty treat for her readers with a signature flair that keeps this particular reader coming back for more helpings.

 photo 7E1BE69C-2D3E-4667-B027-7B245271CD65_zpswzfnplpk.gif

Licked is the second solo outing for Brooke and after the success of her first Novel Flashpoint and co-written Desperate Man series, it was a moot point that I would be eating this one up too.

In regards to the blurb, if like me the thought of a love triangle makes you break out in a rash, trust me when I say "Take it with a sprinkle of sprinkles." With such a fantastic story and set up, Brooke easily pushed my concerns aside and had me eating out the palm of her hand in no time.

 photo 0707B408-226D-447A-AF76-35154B57431B_zpsychydeda.gif

Licked is a concoction of all things sweet and sinful. Lead by a feisty, ballsy heroine and the richness of a smooth hero, the story is a riot of hilarity and wit with a generous helping of emotional engagement. It’s a guaranteed pick me up whatever your mood. Quite honestly, I couldn’t get enough of it.

So as I sit back and pat my belly after gorging on this deliciousness,  the cherry on this delightful sundae is that there is more to come from this series and I for one can’t wait.

Ryleigh Phillips is at her high school reunion. A lot has changed since she was a teenager. Now, she is the owner of a funky ice cream shop that offers many treats with interesting names. Her business has been successful and is doing very well for self except when it comes to love. One thing that hasn't changed is her eclectic taste in decor and fashion. As well as her crush on Cameron Mathis, the ex-high school football star. When she literally bumps into him and cops a feel, she realizes he doesn't even mind. In fact, it seems now that Cameron is very interested in getting to know her. Her dreams are finally coming true, until Cameron's best friend Hunter Morgan comes into the picture.

“And Ry?”
“Hmm?”
“I'm keeping you.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Ryleighs night with Cameron did not go exactly how she fantasized it would. She also never expected to feel a bit of an attraction towards his best friend Hunter. When the current contractor for her creamery ends up falling behind by a lot, Cameron suggests she hire Hunter. She agrees and it ends up being the best decision she ever made. When Cameron goes off to a work trip, Ryleigh concentrates her time with making sure her shop is finished on time. Hunter is making her dream ice cream shop a reality, and with each day they spend together. The closer they become. Now she has no idea what to do. They are both good men and sexy in their own way. How is she suppose to decide which man she wants? How is she suppose to do it without hurting their friendship and their hearts?

First off, I really liked Ryleigh. She was hilarious and lots of fun. I loved how independent she was and how she owned who she was without a care of what other people thought of her. I just loved her! Then there was Cameron who was such a great guy. He was funny, sexy and a gentleman. Hunter was also sexy, cocky and devilish. They were total opposites but the both made her melt. Before I continue on, this wasn't really a love triangle. It may seem that way, but it really wasn't. I really enjoyed the funny banter, and quirks in this book. Not to mention all those really great names for her sundaes, they were the best. I also really loved the sexual tension in it as well. Ryleigh's friends were a hoot, but I will admit they did sound a bit similar, so at times I didn't even know who was who. Still, they were great.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“Because if there's anything you've taught me, it's that when you love someone, you love all parts of them, and not just the ones they want you to see.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I don't want to give the rest of the story away, because it's better to just read it yourself. This story was a sweet and fluffy read with lots of humour. It may have been a tad bit too cheesy at times, but hell if I cared. I still thoroughly enjoyed it. There was also a bit of angst and drama that kept things interesting, it was nothing too crazy so don't worry. This was my first book from Brooke Blaine and it definitely won't be my last. I look forward to reading more romantic comedies from her. I also really liked the writing, and the style it was done in is one I highly enjoyed. Overall, it was an awesome cute read. If you have not checked this author out yet, then you really should.

Ryleigh is a proud owner of an ice cream shop with unique names for her adult only clients. On the night of her high school reunion she meets Cameron, the guy she was crushing back then. Cameron shows interest now but something happens before anything occurs between them.

Hunter is Cameron's roomate and since Ry is in an emergency need of a better construction crew than the one currently working on her shop, Hunter takes over as her new contractor.

She's definitely not oblivious to the hot man working under her roof nor his flirting. The chemistry between them is palpable and Ry wonders what to do. Cameron was the guy she was crushing for so many years and it's finally her chance to try things out with him, but then again she can't deny the attraction for his friend and roomate.

"Thank you. You're saving my ass yet again."
"Not a problem. It's a nice ass."

I'm not the master of reviews and sometimes my message isn't being as clear as the day. Maybe because I'm trying to hide more than reveal information. My review may make that story sound like a love riangle between two best friends and the girl. I had that fear myself when I started reading. There was some angst that made me think "oh shit..", but let's just say it's not what you think.

The only reason that didn't make me give this book 5 stars was that near the ending the book became too cheesy and maybe a little OTT. However, I loved the book and I would definitely recommend it if you're in need for a rom com or a chick lit.

Licked was a light, cute and fun read that had me between smiling and laughing with their quirky dialogues and shenanigans. I truly enjoyed the author's writing and although it was my first book by her, I'm certainly looking forward to reading more by her.

Ryleigh Phillips was always the weird girl in high school, the one who wore 50's and 60's styles and didn't conform to what was the "cool" thing. Which, as you can imagine, didn't leave her with the best memories from that time. So why is she going to her high school reunion? The answer would be Cameron Mathis, the boy she crushed on in school, the one she didn't think ever knew she existed. She realizes she thought all wrong though when she runs into his...urm manhood in the hallway of their old school and he remembers her.

The night Ryleigh had planned for her and Cameron did not go anywhere near as planned once they left the reunion together. She wakes up the next morning to his roommate, a sex god too delicious for his own good. She knows that Cameron is the one she wants, the one she's wanted for years, so why is it Hunter that she can't stop thinking about now?

I've been putting this book off for awhile because I'm not a huge fan of love triangles and that's what I thought this would be like, but now I'm kicking myself. Yes there are two men involved in the story but it wasn't an over the top, drama full, story about them fighting over the girl. I really liked how mature the characters were in the situation and I found that I actually liked both guys.

But Hunter is the one that stole my affections, I loved how sweet he was and that he was so attentive to the things that Ryleigh liked or didn't like. He was also a little mysterious at first and it had me captivated with not only his character, but the story. He was also really hot and made me want to lick him like a ice cream cone.

Ryleigh was such an amazing character to read about, she was different than most heroines I've met. She was a very open person, wasn't afraid to be her own wacky self, and she was super independent. I enjoyed reading about her character and getting to know some of the crazy out there names for ice cream that she made up from things in her life.

The story was hilarious and once I started it I didn't want to put it down in fear that I was missing a great joke. I was cracking up so much while reading, or just smiling like a loon. Ryleigh with her friends was the funniest thing and I already can't wait to read their stories and find out more about them, and hopefully laugh some more.

Overall, this was a great story that I think any romantic comedy fan would love. The characters were a little wacky, but lovable and the romance was sweet and sexy. A warning, though, this book will make you crave ice cream!

“Ready to Get Licked?”

I feel like I could lick the cover, the hero, the heroine and all the sweetness and magnificence boozy shakes that she creates in her shop. I even could lick the author of the book, or the one who comes up with the idea to open something like that in my city. So what we have a deal? Lick, lick, lick!

About the plot: Ryleigh Phillips is a successful owner of Licked, an ice creamery and bar, serving the most imaginative ice cream, and bozzie shakes. Her company is so popular that she wants to develop business with Licked After Dark. It has to help her win the America TV contest, which will enable to promote and create such stores across the country. But the contractor miss deadlines and she is in trouble.

At about the same time she goes to the school reunion where intends to win the heart of her high school crush Cameron Mathis. When it seems that everything goes according to her thoughts, she meets Cameron's roommate Hunter Morgan, who is also the contractor and he can help her make up for dates and create Licked After Dark on time.

Final thoughts: Did you ever read funny love triangle? You finally have such an opportunity! In the most fun and funky sense of the word. Cameron Mathis, although he is the third in this triangle is impossible to dislike. But he has no chance with getting-dirty-with-his-hands and undeniably sexy Hunter to win me over.

“Hunter and his magic fucking tongue. If you could capture it and sell it, it’d be worth a fortune.”

The author described a very creative and unique story, including incredible character of Ryleigh Phillips. She's feisty retro chick, who absolutely rock! And of course, their scenes together are very steamy. They flirt and are dirty in the bed as you need it. Yummy!

One of the greatest things in this book are wonderful friends: Shayne, Paige and Quinn. These girls, these girls a nice piece of work! Yes, each of them will get thier own book in the series, and it makes me so happy! Their relationship is amazing and they always stand one behind the other. Even when their ideas are sometimes questionable, be guaranteed great entertainment.

“Pussy nibble …that’s a good name for a future shake.”
“Make sure it’s pink ,” she said with a wink. “With lots of cherries.”

The story is fantastic maintained and developed. I like madly the layout of emotions and excitement. And it has one of the funniest and ridiculous scenes that you can read. There is something to laugh and something to cry about. I did not expect such emotions after romantic comedy. Yes, I cried at the end. That twist... I thought was going to kill me.

Licked was everything I wanted to read and although the book can be read as stand alone I recommend to read all of them to get to know all these girls, it will not be wasted time.

What an endearingly cute and funny book! It's just what the doctor ordered for me- low on angst, comical yet romantic, and I great cast of secondary characters I can't wait to get to know in further books!

Ryleigh Phillips is the retro-infused chic that owns Licked, a snarky ice creamery in LA. When the current construction company in charge of her expansion starts slacking off and deadlines are not being met, she finds the hot construction company owner, Hunter Morgan, there to help her out. Cool- work gets done while she gets to ogle the man-candy on the other side of the room! Their purely platonic business relationship starts getting more...steamy as time spent together stirs the chemistry between them.

I seriously need a LICKED in my neighborhood. All ice cream creations come with a snarky sexual innuendo name (Cookie Dil-dough, Ground-shaking Orgasm, Up-the-Butt-er Pecan) and I had to laugh every time! Just don't be a loser and order a Castrated Ball, go big and get a full set! Who can go with one scoop? Not what you were thinking? Mind=gutter

An all-around enjoyable read and I look forward to more from this other. Chick-lit with a dose of steam and romance. Perfect combination!

A quote that just makes sense-
(...)When you love someone, you love all of them, and not just the parts they want you to see. You have to embrace the ugly parts. The parts that are hard, that are scared. The ones that are awkward and don’t fit in.”

My first read from Brooke Blaine was a fun and entertaining read, it's not often I read romantic comedy but this was just what I needed after coming off an emotional few days in the life of books.

Ryleigh a successful business woman, owner of an ice cream shop catered towards adults, she sells sexy sundaes with names often a little inappropriate for young children. With a penchant for the vintage, she is a quirky and sassy and a heroine that you can't help but find likeable.

On the night of her ten year high school reunion, she finds herself under the attention of the man who she once crushed on as a girl, and is delighted when he asks her out.

However it's not long before she realises that Cameron's best mate and room mate is the man who she can't stop thinking about, especially when he takes over the construction of her new after dark creamery, so things get a bit awkward considering she is going on a second date with him.

Hunter is the one who really gives her the butterflies and he was obviously the perfect match.

I suppose you would consider this a 'love triangle' but in no way was it angsty or uncomfortable to read, just a whole lot of fun.

Licked is a standalone romantic comedy, told in Ryleigh's POV.

I seen someone add this to their TBR on my feed and I started to laugh because I remembered certain things in this book (hint hint: read the review) and then crave some Cookie Dil-Dough which SOUNDS AMAZING AF ;P Y'all are probably thinking "wtf is Cookie Dil- Dough??"

Don't worry but all I know is Me want.

*************************

Don't be fooled by the cover page. I know, it's hideous but the book made up for it or shall I say what specifically made up for it hehehe!!

The main character, Ryleigh, owns an Ice cream creamery buuuuuut it's not your ordinary ice cream creamery. She made it into a naughty ice cream creamery.

(Omg how many times did I mention "Ice Cream Creamery" ???)

Okay, I wasn't aware that it was naughty until I heard the ice cream names. Guys, to be honest, I was in it for the ice cream names. It had me. They were fucking hilarious. I swear, this is a brillant idea likeeeeeee *slow clap*

OKAY, YOU ALREADY KNOW I'M GOING TO SHARE THE NAMES SO BUCKLE UP KIDS!!

- "Nibble My Nuts shake"
-"Slap my ass and call me Sally boozy shake"
-"Cookie Dil-Dough"
-"Up-the-Butt-er Pecan"
-"Ground-Shaking Orgasm"
-"Dammit Spike from Notting Hill"
-"The Wanker"
-"One Castrated Ball of Ravaged Raw"
-"Triple Nipple Fudge"
-"Stroke n' Poke"
-"Clam Jam"
-"The Diabetes"
-"The Greedy Motherfucker"

Aaaaaand the names go on forever but PLEASE TELL ME IF THESE NAMES AREN'T CREATIVE AF?? Can this be real ?? I volunteer as tribute to see this happen in real life. I'm so down for making a petition ;)

Just imagine going to an ice cream shop and ordering "Nibble my nuts"

Idk if I can say that with a straight face. I would die of laughter mid-sentence like :

Person: "Hey, what can I get you?"
Me: "Nibble my nu-ahahahhahahahahhahahahahahah"

Yup, I take back the idea of having this made in real life. I would quite literally die of laughter if I spoke these so-called ice cream names out loud.

ALSO, this book made me crave ice cream a looooooooot. I've never craved ice cream to the point where I almost ran to the nearest grocery store to buy 283928490324 ice cream boxes.

It's a good, light- read and will definitely make you fight people. Why? You'll want ice cream....AS SOON AS POSSIBLE !! Plus It's more suitable for those who can handle sexual content. Seriously, if you could do it then read it ;P

That's all Folks, good day!!

But one thought still nagged at me: If I were truly honest with myself, which guy would I choose? The man I’d always wanted? Or the man I’d never forget?

How freaking cute was this book? That's a rhetorical question for sure but I'll tell you anyway...pretty damn cute! It's swoony, romantic, sexy and completely entertaining. If only every woman had the "Hunter or Cameron" question to answer, life would be a beautiful thing. And an ice cream shop that serves boozy concoctions? Best. Idea. Evah!

Be prepared to get licked!!!!! Yes, readers will be salivating as Brooke Blaine serves up a wickedly delightful deliciously sinful sexy scoop of hotness, fun, screaming orgasm with an extra scoop of humor and extra sprinkle of nuts in her newest romantic comedy, LICKED. Brooke Blaine has easily become one of those authors that I gravitate towards to. In my opinion, she can cover any genre whether it be erotic romance, suspense and romantic comedy. Brooke Blaine does it all. And let me tell you, she DELIVERED. Yes, Brooke Blaine delivered or in this case, scooped up a fun, fresh, unfiltered sexy love triangle that will have you addicted and begging for more.

#Licked

Ryleigh Phillips is about to get licked!!!! This ice cream shop owner is melting in her own personal dilemma that has gotten quite sticky!!!! Two hot gorgeous single men vying for her attention. One happens to be her high school crush and the other happens to be her high-school crush's roommate, who happens to be her new contractor. What is Ryleigh to do? Can this beautiful bombshell make up her mind before she finds herself in a sticky situation? So what flavor will be Ryleigh be licking.... her high-school crush or the sexy carpenter?

#Licked1

I honestly don't want to spoil anything for readers because LICKED was a story that you will want to sit back and savor. The writing and storyline were clean, fresh, and chock full of entertainment. There was never a dull moment in this book. And as for characters, I loved them. They were smart, fun, witty, humorous and oh so naughty!!!! LICKED is a prime example of romantic comedy done right. Ms. Blaine gave you depth, humor, sexiness, and a storyline that was fresh and modern. So if Ms. Blaine wanted us to get licked, well mission accomplished because after taking a lick of her new romantic comedy, I'm hooked!!!!

This is the first book I’ve read by Brooke Blaine, and I’ve got to say I love her writing style. It’s very reminiscent of Alice Clayton in its sexy humor, but with a quirky, irreverent flair.

The book blurb perfectly summarizes the plot, so I won’t bother telling you what the story is about. The whole setup is entertaining, and I defy you not to fall in love with Ryleigh. She’s been an oddball her whole life with her retro wardrobe and obsession with everything 1950’s. She’s wacky and creative and she not only embraces those qualities about herself, she channels them into a successful business.

The concept of Licked ice creamery and booziery is genius. It’s a specialty ice cream shop that features sexy sundaes and alcoholic shakes named with risqué double entendres. Throughout the entire book, Ryleigh keeps topping herself with hilarious new concoctions such as Coke Whore float, Like a Virgin vanilla bean ice cream, S&M&M, Cookie Dil-dough, and the Castrated Ball (a single scoop), to name a few. Even the chapter titles are clever.

Then there’s Hunter. What a breath of fresh air that hottie is. He’s a bit cocky at first, but unexpectedly super sweet. Although he barely knows her, he just gets Ryleigh like nobody ever has and the sexual tension between them can be cut with a knife right from the start. They’re amazingly good together, which made me question why Hunter takes one small mistake and blows it way out of proportion. It seemed unreasonable to me, and I also had some issues with the resolution. Even so, Licked is a charming and whimsical story.

There’s an entire cast of characters that are funny and fascinating in their own right. It’s obvious there’s a ton of material left to mine from this wonderful crew. Each character—from Ryleigh’s crazy and devoted friends Shayne, Paige and Quinn; to Zoe, her unconventional co-worker; and even Cameron, her sexy high school crush—deserves their own book in the series.

I do have a small bone to pick with you though, Ms. Blaine. That ending. Really? In the words of The Supremes, “You just keep me hangin’ on.” It’s not a huge cliffhanger or anything, but a few unanswered questions remain and there’s no epilogue—which wasn’t very nice of you. At all. I hope we’ll get a taste (Get it?) of Ryleigh and Hunter in the next book, Hooker.

I was curious about this series after I was introduced to the ladies and Licked/After Dark in the PresLocke series. I was not disappointed these ladies are sassy, hilarious and they all have potty mouths and the guys are panty melting hot. Licked is a rom com with a mix of LOL moments, sizzling HOT sex and some heartbreak thrown in.

Brooke Blaine's style of writing is different with some of Ryleigh kooky thoughts, it reads like she is talking to the me the reader personally, this felt funny to begin with but I soon got used to it.

Ryleigh Phillips runs an eclectic ice creamery with adult only names examples Triple Nipple Fudge, Stroke ’n Poke, Pity Party for One, The Diabetes or the Greedy Motherfucker and she is hoping to open a bar that serve boozy shakes but the bar is not going to plan.

Ryleigh goes to her ten year high school reunion hoping to see her high school crush Cameron. Her wish comes true when she literally runs into a naked Cameron (sorry you will have to read for more details HA). It turns out that Cameron does remember Ryleigh from school even though she thought she was invisible to him as Ryleigh had a hard time in school because of her style she was made fun of so they try seeing each other but the universe is definitely sending them a message.

After she spends the night at Cameron’s (on the couch – don’t ask) she wakes up to a mysterious guy watching her sleep ENTER Hunter Morgan Cameron's best friend / roommate who just happens to be a contractor that might be able to save Ryleigh’s bar.

Hunter is a flirt with a dirty mouth, he works hard to get After Dark ready for the open date he shocks Ryleigh with how well he knows her vision for her bar getting the perfect fixture and fittings that only Ryleigh could dream of.

After Ryleigh, Cameron, Hunter and his date go on a double date which is awkward. Cameron and Ryleigh talk and he steps aside so Ryleigh and Hunter can give it a chance.

These two together are sizzling and their first date WOW super cute, weeks go by living in their happy bubble but of course something has to happen Hunter is keeping a secret and Ryleigh listening to a bad influence betrays Hunter’s trust and they end.

How far will Ryleigh go to win back her man?
Will Hunter accept her apology?

From 76% I could not put this down until I found out the truth and what would happen between them for a while there I WAS SCARED.

I cannot wait to read Hooker the second book in the LA Liaison series and get to know the other sassy ladies better and meeting an old friend Ace Locke doesn't hurt.

WARNING this will make you hungry for ice cream

Overall Opinion: I was pleasantly surprised with is one. I was hesitant because I worried about the love triangle theme, but it really was a non-issue. It wasn't just OTT humor either (which I was expecting too), but it was the right amount of humor instead. I enjoyed it, but I had to mark it off for the bad communication from the H and the abrupt ending.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Ryleigh and Hunter's story. Ryleigh attends her 10 year high school reunion in hopes of finding and hooking up with her long time crush, Cameron. They hit it off, and end up getting so drunk she ends up spending the night on the couch. She is shocked to wake up to another hottie, Hunter, who is Cameron's roommate and best friend. Hunter ends up helping her with her renovations at her shop, and the sparks start to fly. There is some funny moments, some hot moments, some sweet moments, and some teary moments...but the couple get their HFN ending.

POV: This was told in Ryleigh's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. It flowed really well, and I didn't feel the need to skim. I was irritated with the abrupt ending though.

Instalove: No. Definite instalust, but they have some good development of feelings in this.

H rating: 3 stars. Hunter. I liked him a lot until he messed up in our big conflict for the couple. I felt like he was at fault, and that this conflict could've been avoided if he just was a better communicator. He needed to grovel some more IMO.

h rating: 4 stars. Ryleigh. I really liked her character. She was unique, and she embraced that uniqueness. Loved the idea of her shop/bar!

Sadness level: Moderate. I actually teared up a few times, but I didn't need to get my tissue box out.

Heat level: Moderate. They have some steamy chemistry.

Descriptive sex: Yes.

Safe sex: Yes, there is mention of condoms.

OW/OM drama:

Sex scene with OW or OM:

Cheating:

Possible Triggers:

Closure: HFN ending at most -- not even close to the amount of closure I would've liked (and the main reason for my lower rating). There were too many unanswered questions at the end for me to feel good about the couple.

How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

As some of you may or may not know: I have a geeky vagina. Things like puns and a play on words turn me the fuck on. Add to that a quirky (but kickass) heroine and I’m about ready to propose marriage to a work of fiction. But then Brooke Blaine adds two swoony heroes and I was ready to get Licked.

Ryleigh owns an ice creamery that is as colourful and eclectic as she is. She’s always been a little left of centre and while it made her happy, it didn’t do her many favours in high school. When she runs into her high school crush during a reunion, he’s grabbed by the balls (literally) and totally infatuated with Ryleigh. Ryleigh couldn’t be happier that the man of her teenage fantasies returns her affections. That is, until she meets his best friend and roommate.

Though this plot may sound messed up and it may turn some off, it really isn’t what you think it is and this book is nothing but a good damn time. It’s relatively low on angst but high on humour and there is loads of sexual tension, lingering looks and shy smiles flying around the place which culminates in some hot as fuck sexy times.

There isn’t a whole lot to think about here. The secondary characters are all great and only add to the hilarity. Although it is low on angst, there is just enough to keep your interest and secure an epic ending. There is so much to love about this book! Two hot guys? Humour? Delicious treats? Quirk? Hot sexy times? All of that and a generous helping of rainbow sprinkles?

Can I get two scoops of Yes-The-Fuck-Please?!

Don’t let the blurb fool you into thinking this is an angsty, melancholy story about a love triangle. Oh, no, no. Licked by Brooke Blaine is a fresh, fun, and flirty romantic comedy through and through. It will melt your heart, tickle your funny bone, and make you wish you had a Nibble My Nuts sundae to devour while reading.

The heroine, Ryleigh, is a complete and total delight. She is strong, smart, cheeky, and impeccably styled in her retro attire. Licked is the hip joint that Ryleigh has built from the ground up with her signature style and sass. The place sounds totally amazing, and I wish I had one in my neighborhood! Just the names of the treats and cocktails had me cracking up, and I dare you to keep a straight face while reading them.

Ryleigh may be rocking her business dreams, but she is sorely lacking in the love department--until the fateful night of her high school reunion. First, there is Cameron, the guy she has had a crush on since she was 15. After a disastrous reunion and dashed hopes, Ryleigh meets Cameron’s roommate, Hunter. With not one, but two potential suitors, predicaments and hilarity ensue.

I gobbled the whole thing up with a spoon and it left me unabashedly begging for seconds. Since Licked is a standalone that introduces the characters for the interconnected series, I won’t have to wait too long for more yummy goodness.

3 I Like That Old Times Rock n Roll Stars!

Ryleigh finally gets the attention from her teen crush Cameron at her high school reunion. They wind up back at Cameron's house and while Ryleigh is freshening up Cameron passes out. Ryleigh winds up sleeping on the couch because she's had too much to drink to drive. In the morning Ryleigh meets Cameron's roommate Hunter. Hunter screams bad boy and playboy. He's the total opposite of Cameron or is Ryleigh judging a book by its cover?

When Ryleigh's renovation plans are not coming together as planned Cameron steps in and asks Hunter to check it out. Hunter owns his own construction company and decides to take on Ryleigh's project.
With Cameron away on business and nothing going as planned between them Ryleigh can't ignore the sparks that are between her and Hunter. After a double date gone wrong things change between these three.

Will Ryleigh let go of her teen crush and stop ignoring the sparks between her and Hunter? Will Hunter and his crew get Ryleigh's project done in time? What happens with Cameron?

This was a sexy, sweet and funny read that was very light on the drama. Ryleigh was cute with her rockabilly look. All the crazy names for her ice cream flavors cracked me up. Loved Ryleigh's friends! They were hilarious! Cameron was pure sugar and I loved him. Hunter was extremely sexy and I loved him too.

Not sure why I didn't love this one but I did like it. If you're looking for a cute and funny read with a little steam and very little drama this ones perfect for you:))

Ryleigh is in her late twenties, lives in LA, and runs a very successful specialty Ice-Cream shop!
Her ice cream creations and boozy shakes all have very sexy (dirty!!!!) names and because business is really good, she's ready to expand. To win a TV show where her shop could be made into a country-wide franchise thing, she needs to renovate the place she just bought next door. But her builder-guy was a complete idiot .... that's where hottie McHottie comes into the picture.
Hunter.
He's best friends with Ryleigh's highschool crush Cameron.
And she has to meet Hunter now...NOW? After she and Cameron talked and flirted for the first time EVER at their 10-year highschool reunion? (There might even have been some naked sexual touching involved that night too! But probably not the kind you're thinking of now. ☺)
But now that Cameron had to leave for business, and Hunter is at her shop all day - grrrrr.
No guy for years and now two at once????

WHAT WiLL HAPPEN WiTH RYLEiGH???
WHO WiLL SHE CHOOSE????
WiLL THERE BE A HAPPY EVER AFTER???
WiLL THERE BE A CLiFFHANGER??? ☺ ☺ ☺

I REALLY LOVED THE BOOK!

It was such a funny and refreshing romance.
Ryleigh is so cute and totally not like other girls her age, or any age.
She wanted Cameron for ever! And now Hunter comes along and makes her question her life-long crush.

It's not really a love triangle thing, if you're afraid of that - because I don't really love those either - like most readers.

#LICKED this really cute and amazingly funny Los Angeles Romance.
With so many laugh-out-loud moments.
Sexy moments - flirty moments - adorable moments - even a few moments where I must've gotten something in my eye ☺
I just loved it!

RYLEIGH & HUNTER:
SUNNY, FUNNY, SEXY & ADORABLE

I can't wait to read about Ryleigh's friends in the next books in the series - there's LOTS of potential for amazing stories!!!!

I am having a moment with Licked. Several, in fact. On replay in my head. How could I not? It has a retro-cool lady, sassy ice cream, tickle-your-funny-bone humor and not one but TWO swoonworthy, panty-melting, perfectly lickable, men. Oh, and the feels, people. It has the feels.

Please, PLEASE, don't be like me and nearly overlook this fabulous book. Because despite my cover lust (gorge) and my author curiosity (Brooke Blaine is new-to-me but I've heard many good things), I nearly got tripped up by the blurb. Triangles...not my favorite shape unless it involves some three-way action. But NEVER FEAR. This is a true rom-com (it reads like your favorite movie, no lie), where the triangle is played beautifully. For laughs, for love and for want of propelling the story. It wasn't rip-your-heart-out-and-make-you-bleed; it was oh-they're-perfect-I'll-take-one-off-your-hands.

Ms. Blaine gave me funny. Wild. Cute. A little angsty. And a whole lotta sexy. (Also, boozy ice cream cravings). Cameron and Hunter. *Sigh* I won't lie and say I didn't think about a little ménage action to make Ryleigh's choice easier but it worked this way too. Because if someone still needs a HEA, then I get another book from this excellent new series. And there are SO many options for what could come next. Ryleigh's friends...pick one, Ms. Blaine. I'm in, no question.

Why? Because Licked got me right in the funny bone—and in the feels. There was more than one watery smile (big smile, just a little water) when her sweet words, loveable men and delicious ice cream came together to give me my moment(s). So, please—PLEASE—if you've made it this far through my review, get Licked. It's wonderful.

Now, back to my moment (and replaying it over and over in my head.) ~ Beth, 5 stars

~~~
Oh, my goodness. I have been utterly and completely charmed by this book. It's like this perfect cocktail (see what I did there?) of lighthearted, smart humor, adorable, swoony moments, and hot, hot sexy times that made my heart race and my Kindle smoke. And all those things were mixed together with some hilarious and delicious sounding ice cream concoctions—which were basically my secondary character crushes in this book. I'm not even lying. That ice cream was dead sexy.
I am a huge sucker for romantic comedies, and was drawn to this sort of unique storyline even though I was a little wary of the love triangle. Love triangles often end with me having a Kindle-smashing moment. They sort of stress me out. Not this one though! I am happy to report that this one was brilliantly and beautifully done. It was adorable, really, watching the relationships in this book develop and deepen—even the conflict never felt overly wrought.
Licked is just fun. Full of swoony moments punctuated with actual laugh-out-loud moments (and there are many), and just a teeny bit of angst, which really only serves to intensify that swoony butterflies feeling. Mostly, this book is a recipe for heart happiness.
This whole story was simply perfect. I want to gush about it for days, but it's impossible to do that without giving anything away. So, in the interest of remaining spoiler free, you'll have to take my word for it. Or—better yet—see for yourself! You won't regret it! ~ Shelly, 5 stars
EEPP! This book was AMAZING! A downright funny novel that will keep you laughing into the night! Readers who have a good sense of humor, a dirty mind, and those who don’t care about body part references and comparisons with ice-cream than this is your book! I absolutely loved every single minute of it! And to boot, this cover is GORGEOUS! This is probably what first drew me to the book and I am SO glad I read it!
This book is about a woman named Ryleigh who owns a pretty cool ice cream shop named licked. This ice cream shop though is not your typical, run of the mill parlors. Instead, it offers come pretty eccentric things… Like ice creams named Cookie-Dil-Dough, and Like a Virgin Vanilla Bean! Ha, I laughed so loud when I read some of these names. Anyway, when Rayleigh goes to her 10-year high school reunion she runs into the sex-god she had crushed on all throughout high school. And when I say run in, I mean she physically ran into his manly parts and had a grope because apparently he was streaking. Now if that isn’t a warm welcoming after so many years I don’t know what is! As Rayleigh and Cameron reconnect and hit it off it seems that life is looks pretty exquisite. But Rayleigh has some problems to deal with. Like bad contractors who aren’t doing their job within her shop. Thankfully, before Cameron goes to Hong Kong for business he sets her up with his best friend Hunter who happens to be a contractor. At first the two have some mild flirtation going on but it becomes clear throughout reading that the two have more in common than they believed. And when they get together, sparks will IGNITE!
With a teeny amount of drama, a lot of humor, and some kick ass ice creams, this novel will surely please many readers! Please note, there is NOT a love triangle going on in this novel. The relationship between Rayleigh, Cameron, and Hunter is not where the drama lies. Rather, a small amount of insecurities come into play and leave readers hanging for a minute, but not more than that! This is a very sweet and fun novel that I highly suggest getting your hands on. I. Loved. It!
A TOP favorite read & one of the BEST for 2015
I enjoyed the hell out of this! I thought the writing was lovely, providing a story that flowed smoothly and kept me thoroughly entertained from start to finish. The characters were also hugely likeable. The gals were hilariously relatable and the guys were dreamy beyond measure - definite book boyfriend material, here, ladies. The romance was the perfect mixture of sexy and sweet, and the entire thing was doused in a layer of good humour which kept a smile on my face throughout.
After reading the synopsis, I was initially worried about the idea of a love triangle (which I generally loathe), but I feel it was a tad misleading because it was extremely obvious from very early in the story who the main love interest was going to be. And I adored this guy, a lot! He was god damn swoon-worthy. I even liked the other guy enough to want him to get his own story in this series. (Do you like how I'm not naming names as to avoid spoiling anything!?) Did I mention the quality of the book boyfriends we have on offering, here!?! *happy sigh*
I think my favourite thing about this story was the ice-cream parlour itself (i.e. Licked). It was an absolutely delightful main backdrop for this adorable story to take place. The actual ice cream flavours were sinfully delicious and often wildly amusing. I mean, who wouldn't want to try the Up-the-Butt-er Peacan or the Stroke 'n Poke or (what I believe would be my personal favourite) the Cookie Dil-dough?? Even the alcoholic boozy shakes sounded fricken amazing! Seriously, if this place was real, I would set up camp outside and never leave.
I'm looking forward to following this ragtag group of friends as they continue to find and claim their dream guys!
Honestly I was wildly dissapointed with Licked. Literally, the cover of the book says "a romantic comedy" and it wasn't funny... at all. I don't know if it's Brooke Blaine's writing style or the fact that the MC acted like dressing from the 50s and being "different" meat she was oppressed, but either way I never connected to the MC. She kinda pissed me off actually. Everyone talked so stiffly, the "best-friends" just seemed like people who pushed her to do stupid things, especially the main drama of the relationship. The friends sucked.
Then the actual relationship - no chemistry, no build up, no real sense of if she likes this guy. They have all of 3 conversations before they get together and prior to that all her thoughts about him were "he's gorgeous - wait did I just say he's gorgeous?!" It was a) irritating b) made zero sense for when they get together that suddenly they're a great couple who talks all the time and knows everything about each other.
What really did it in for me was the ending. If a couple fights, and they both do ridiculous things (btw i hate "misunderstandings" being the drama of the relationship), and get back together by the end of the book - there needs to be an epilogue. Any book that ends with "I'm sorry, I love you!" THE END, is a waste of time for me.
All in all, Licked fell flat for me. Meh.
Full 3.5 star review posted at http://afterdarkbooklovers.com/2015/1...
description
Vintage charmer : What happens when you have the chance to have what you always wanted, but maybe what you always wanted isn’t what you really need? Well, that’s when romance happens.
Ms. Blaine has crafted a real charming little tale with vintage flair. It’s her debut and you can tell a vivid world has been playing around in Ms. Blaine’s head. Her writing style is fun, it’s done in first person POV and Ryleigh’s head easy to inhabit. I love when female friendships are handled well, and they are some of the strongest bits. The humor is on point, and the banter between all the characters made me smile more than once. If Ms. Blaine continues with this series, I’d be more than happy to see each of them get their own HEAs.
The setup is fun : Ryleigh has always had a love for ice cream and her life was rolling right along, with her little ice creamery Licked and her plans for expansion, courtesy of the reality show she’d signed up for. She has her friends, and she has her shop, and if she doesn’t really have a love life, that was alright. Kind of. The contractor she has is flaking out on her, and she’s stressing about her high school reunion and seeing those who gave her flack for being different and loving her fifties style.
Ryleigh always wondered what it would be like to go back and snag the attention of the one who never (seemed) to look her way - Cameron, her high school crush. When she bumps into him (literally) at the reunion, she gets to find out the answer to that what if. Except, that what if comes with a new question, in the form of Hunter Morgan. He’s Cameron’s best friend and he offers to help her out as the new contractor for her venture Licked After Dark. Now you’d think that the dreaded T word will rear its head and while it does for a while...
This is more circle of life than triangle : Triangles are a tricky thing and I’ll admit I was worried that I’d have issues with lines being crossed. Happily, those didn’t come to pass. The question of who Ryleigh should be with is answered fairly quickly and clearly, which I appreciated greatly.
Good chemistry between leads : In answering the triangle question, the chemistry practically leaps off the page at the reader, and I think The Firsts (meet, kiss and love scenes) were handled well. I’m being deliberately vague but I think it helps to not have all that info up front.
I want ice cream now : I love, love, love the ice creamery Licked. The names Ryleigh comes up with for her ice cream flavors, the little touches such as the Pity Party of One booth, and the Ballot Box of Assholes really made me laugh. The care and attention paid to setting up a shop that I’d love to visit in real life was great fun. I could picture myself having a boozy shake while sitting with Ryleigh, Paige, Shayne and Quinn, I’m pretty sure I’d have a ball. And not one Castrated Ball. You’ll get it when you read it.
Reality show subplot : It's more of a hint, really - like a sprinkle on top of her boozy shakes. I would have liked to see it factor in a bit more, but it didn’t affect my overall enjoyment of this tale.
As sweet as the ice cream Ryleigh sells : There were alot of components here that I enjoyed, like Ryleigh’s inner monologue, her female friendships, and it played more chick lit than straight romance at times. Emotionally, I would have liked to have seen some more developed and that the angst had felt more organic to the tale.
Alot of time was spent developing the idea of the shop and while it was fun, I’d have rather seen more time spent in developing the characters and their relationships, such as really explaining why Ryleigh was so insecure, why she made some of her choices and ultimately, that certain big beats have happened because she chose them, instead of being pushed in that direction.
I’d also have loved to see more of and more of Cameron. I wish that certain critical bits of information been imparted through Hunter's own conversations with Ryleigh, instead of the way it was.
There’s good bones under this sweet tale. If you’re looking for a light read with low angst, this is a decent debut from Ms. Blaine. I’d like to read more about Ryleigh’s friends, and visit Licked again.
Ryleigh is in her twenties and is the owner of a successful ice-cream shop called Licked. She goes to her high school ten year reunion and when she is about to leave before even actually attending the event, she bumps into her high school crush Cameron. The evening start off really well, but the next morning she is welcomed by Cameron's hot roommate Hunter. She thought she finally has the new chance with Cameron, but she's actually attracted to Hunter. Ryleigh bought the rooms next to her ice-cream shop and as her contractor doesn't keep up with the timeline, Hunter comes to the rescue. Cameron is away on business and as Ryleigh and Hunter spend quite some time together, they can't deny the feelings they feel for each other.
It's a really nice feel-good book. It has a lot of funny moments and likeable characters. I also really liked the ice-cream shop with ice-creams, which all had fun names. It's definitely a good start to the series.
