After reading the first chapter of this volume, I wasn't sure that I'd be all that interested in the various rivalries and hero-worship between the men in this story, but it's working out pretty well, I think. Kanda's the kind of warm and saintly character who, seemingly effortlessly, makes everybody else's life better. He's... a magical middle-aged man!!
These people are head-over-heels goofy about their pets. It makes me want to be a little goofier too. :D
This volume's about as long as what I typically expect of a manga volume, at around 180 pages. So there's a bit more of Kanda, Fukumaru, and co. to enjoy this time around. Nothin' wrong with that! And there were some sentimental tears along the way, too, just as usual--including during a part that almost entirely involved the people. This is a great manga to indulge those kinds of feelings with.

I finally read the latest volume and of course I still love this series. The idol worship and rivalries were something I at first thought would rain the story, but it was still entertaining enough for me. :) Overall I still love this manga series and it has become a favorite of mine now!

This is a manga series I always enjoy coming back to! It's always really fun and heartwarming to read!
This volume in particular is more focused on the human characters and their friendships and struggles, but there are always smaller chapters dedicated only to Fukumaru and his habits and those are always my favorite! Not only are they super cute, they're also a good way to break the tension through the main chapters!
Also, Masato completely owned this volume to me, his scenes are hilarious!!
Can't wait to read the next volumes!! ^^

Was soll ich zu dieser Reihe noch sagen? Ich liebe sie einfach. Ich finde super, dass die Charaktere immer mehr Tiefgang bekommen und dass es in diesem Band so viel um Yoshiharu ging, den ich ja eh liebe!

In the afterward, Sakurai mentions that the series is turning into a cat manga and music manga, which might be creatively fulfilling for her, but disappointing for those of us here for the cat content.
The vast majority of this volume centers on the human characters and their music drama. Honestly, I skipped several sections, because I could not care less. It is starting to feel like a daily soap opera with mysterious new characters and dramas introduced that are slight variations of a previous volumes' plot. Yawn.
The strength in this series has always been how astutely Sakurai depicts the human and cat connection. The anthropomorphizing and "challenges" are universal. Reading these slice of life sections make you feel like it's completely justified to talk about your cat ad nauseum (note: it always is).
If there was a single volume with only cat content, this would be a five-star series. With the music and human element, it's a hair below average. Even the tease of a new cat in Volume 7 won't keep me reading on.

"Is this a cat manga . . . or a music manga?" one of the characters asks in the author's afterword. And I gotta say, I'm here for the lives of the musicians: their struggles, successes, and rivalries. The cats could all be sent off to live on a farm in the country next volume, and I'd happily bid them farewell. Go on, and take "mew-r" dumb puns with "mew." (And yes, that's the exact level of humor we're being offered. See the chapter titles below for more. Ugh.)

Auch wieder super :D was soll ich sagen.
Diesmal bekommt Yoshiharu unerwartete Hilfe, als seine sogenannten "Freunde" nicht zu einem Musik-Gig erscheinen und er völlig alleine vorm Publikum steht. Es ist wirklich mega süß.
Dann lernen wir noch seinen kleinen Bruder kennen, wegen dem er Klavierspielen eigentlich hasst und bekommen noch ein wenig mehr Background zu den beiden - wieder sehr nachvollziehbar, wieso die beiden Brüder sich nicht so gut leiden konnten.
Und zusätzlich bekommen wir es mit einem weiteren Rivalen von Kanda zu tun, der nur um die Anerkennung seines eigenen Vaters kämpft. Dieser liebt aber nur das Klavierspiel Kandas. Auch wieder ein sehr realistischer, trauriger Hintergrund :3 wie immer, trotz der schweren Vergangenheiten ein lockerer Manga. Und die Katzen sind so dick und süß.

The series continues to amuse me and I absolutely love it! Kanda is now cat-sitting Hibino's cat and Fukumaru could not be happier. This volume was about Kanda and his music more than about the cats, which is okay with me as long as I see Fukumaru in any way shape or form, I am content.

Also ich muss hier sagen, dass ich absolut begeistert davon bin, dass man das Booklet und das Variantcover zu dieser Erstauflage einfach mal ohne Aufpreis bekommen hat. Außerdem ist dieses Booklet ein richtiges kleines Artbook, für das andere Verlage wahrscheinlich einen Aufschlag von 10 Euro gefordert hätten. Es ist wirklich der Wahnsinn. Auch der Inhalt des Artbooks ist einfach nur toll. Solche schöne Zeichnungen und diese Farben. Einfach mega schön.
Der Inhalt des Mangas war auch wieder toll, wenn ich auch gestehen muss, dass es nun doch Aspekte gibt, die mir nicht gefielen. Ich hatte daher auch eine Weile überlegt, ihn schlechter zu bewerten. Dann kamen allerdings wieder Seiten mit Fukumaru, die mich so sehr berührten, dass ich einfach keine schlechtere Bewertung als 5 Sterne geben kann.
Mein Problem mit diesem Teil war ganz einfach, dass die Autorin nun ihren Fokus doch mehr auf Kanda und das ganze Musikthema legt. Das thematisiert die Autorin sogar am Ende und ich muss gestehen, dass ich denke, dass sie bereits ahnt, dass nicht alle Leser mit dieser Änderung so zufrieden sein werden. An sich finde ich es nicht schlimm. Vor allem wo es noch um Kandas Vergangenheitsbewältigung und seine neuen Freundschaften ging, hatte ich gar nichts dagegen, dass sich auch Szenen komplett ohne die Katzen abspielen.
Hibinos Charakter gefiel mir am Anfang der Reihe überhaupt nicht, weil ich seine Abneigung Kanda gegenüber eher als sehr kindisch und nicht passend für einen Mann in seinem Alter empfand. Aber das habe ich als diesen typischen japanischen (für mich zu albernen) Humor abgetan, der mir leider in vielen Mangas begegnet. Außerdem entwickelt er sich ja im Laufe der Bände. Trotzdem war er schon seit seinem ersten Auftreten immer so ein kleiner Schandfleck für mich beim Lesen, einer der mich aus dem Abtauchen in den Manga herausgerissen hat durch sein übertriebenes Verhalten. Aber ich habe ihn akzeptiert und durch seine Entwicklung auch teilweise mögen gelernt.
Das die Mangaka nun noch einen weiteren Charakter einführt, der eine übertriebene Abneigung rein aus Neid zu Kanda hat, finde ich absolut unnötig und ich fürchte mich fast vor der Entwicklung dieser Mangareihe. Vor allem da die Mangaka selbst bereits erwähnt, dass sie sich bewusst dazu entschlossen hat dem Musikthema eine deutlich größere Rolle einzuräumen.
Noch kann mich dann jede Seite auf der mich Fukumaru angrinst, wieder friedlich stimmen, aber ich fürchte, dass wird dann nicht mehr immer der Fall sein. Ich verstehe wirklich nicht warum dieser neue Charakter nun auch noch eingeführt werden musste. Da hätte ich lieber noch mehr Katzen gehabt.
Naja, ich könnte mich da jetzt lange drüber aufregen und habe dies auch schon gemacht. Trotzdem bekommt der Band 5 Sterne, weil mich jede einzelne Szene mit Fukumaru nicht nur extrem emotional berührt, sondern auch an ähnliche Situationen mit meinen Katzen zurückdenken lässt.

This is honestly the cutest and most adorable manga series I've ever read. I feel like I say that with each review of the volumes, but truly I mean it. It's so sweet it could give you cavities.
This volume is a direct continuation of the cliff-hanger ending we were given in volume 5, with Mr. Kanda jumping on stage to help Moriyama who was abandoned by his bandmates. Of course, that was both a brave and terrifying thing to do for Kanda, but it was absolutely wonderful to see how it played out. He's by no means over his trauma, but he was able to support his friend in the way that he could. I love the intergenerational relationships in this book. You have elderly characters and youthful characters, and some middle-aged all experiencing these things together. It's so lovely to see.
It seems that the story is now focusing more on Mr. Kanda and his fellow pianist rivals, colleagues, and friends, but we still get very sweet and hilarious moments of cat ownership sprinkled in, like how some cats will graze and others will stuff themselves full and keep going, and how they can become jealous when they see their owners petting another cat.
Kanda is then given the task of cat-sitting Marin for Hibino, thus beginning his challenge of dealing with two cats instead of one. I love that we're seeing other people as well as Kanda with animals, as it's been lovely to see Hibino fall in love with Marin as Kanda has with Fukumaru. He truly cares for his cat now, treating her like his child.
This volume also puts the focus more on Moriyama, Kanda's colleague, and his relationship with music as well as his homelife. It's very interesting to see how Kanda is portrayed by both fans and friends. Everyone has this idea of him, either being a snobby and talented pianist or a god within the music world, or just a very friendly older man who needs to learn to say no and lean on those around him every now and then.
Kanda is growing more confident and open with himself in each volume. Although the cats are not always central to the story anymore, it's very evident that Fukumaru has helped set Kanda on this journey of self-development.

W poprzedniej części mangi nie brakowało dawki „mocnych” wydarzeń (związanych z zaginięciem Fukumaru). W szóstej części serii również jest dramatycznie, ale tym razem problemy bardziej dotykają ludzi. Wszystko zaczyna się od zaproszenia Kandy przez Moriyame na jego koncert rockowy. Niestety nic nie idzie tak, jak było zaplanowane i młody muzyk zostaje porzucony przez kolegów z zespołu. Samotnie stoi on na scenie w blasku świateł, z trudem powstrzymując emocje. Niespodziewanie zyskuje on jednak pomoc od starszych kolegów (włącznie z panem Kandą), którzy ruszają z „muzyczną pomocą”. Każdy, kto regularnie czyta serie, doskonale wie, że od śmierci żony Kanda nie potrafi występować przed publicznością. O tym, czy zdoła on przezwyciężyć do końca swój lęk i co z tego wyniknie, każdy będzie musiał dowiedzieć się samemu. Można jedynie dodać, że będzie ciekawie, zaskakująco, uroczo i dość emocjonalnie. Czyli dokładnie tak jak w poprzednich tomach.
Ludzie i ich problemy odgrywają w tym tomie dosyć ważną rolę. Pragnę jednak uspokoić fanów Fukumaru, że autorka o nim nie zapomniała i on również ma tutaj swoje przysłowiowe pięć minut. Koci bohater, cały czas zmaga się z przeróżnymi kłopotami, pragnąc atencji ludzi i bezgranicznej miłości swojego „tatusia”. Tym razem będzie on również musiał znosić obecność innego kota, co wzbudza w nim niekontrolowane i zabawne wybuchy zazdrości.
Pod wierzchnią warstwą lekkich i prostych muzyczno-komediowych treści, autorka kolejny raz stara się również zaimplementować odrobinę bardziej złożonej treści. Obserwujemy między innymi, jak pod wpływem przyjaźni tytułowy „starszy Pan” zaczyna powoli wychodzić ze swojej skorupy i otwierać się na świat zewnętrzny. Duża w tym zasługa również ukochanego kotka. Istnieją również inne intrygujące wątki, które czekają na odkrycie przez czytelnika. Można być pewnym, że treść mangi nie pozwala odbiorcy na nudę i będzie dla niego bardzo kojąca.

Istnieją również inne intrygujące wątki, które czekają na odkrycie przez czytelnika. Można być pewnym, że treść mangi nie pozwala odbiorcy na nudę i będzie dla niego bardzo kojąca.
