Sinclair Sisters #1

This and Every Christmas

Rate this book
As teens, their paths crossed every Christmas. This year, their paths intertwine.

Single father Noah Appel has suffered more loss than a man of twenty-five should. Between his grief and the mounting pressure of the approaching busy season, he’s overwhelmed—until an incident at his daughter’s school reintroduces him to a girl whose wild hair and quirky family always stood out from other visitors to his family’s tree farm. Only now, she’s a beautiful woman with a kind and helpful heart who throws him and his young daughter a welcome lifeline.

Offering to alleviate some of Noah’s stress seemed like the natural thing for music teacher Clari Sinclair to do, considering his family’s tree farm was the site of so many wonderful memories with her Christmas-obsessed family. Especially since the charming boy she once knew has grown into a handsome man whose burdens call to the deepest parts of her romantic heart.

Can these two turn memories of Christmases past into a future worthy of the Appel legacy?

When I read the description for This & Every Christmas, I thought that it sounded like a fun Christmas tale that I would enjoy. I had no idea that I was going to discover a new favorite.

The author found such a cute and creative way to tell Noah and Clari’s story. Each chapter began with a flashback to different years when they were younger and would see each other or interact with each other at the Christmas tree farm that Noah’s family owned. Sometimes the reader would see the meeting through Noah’s eyes and sometimes through Clari’s. Then, the rest of the chapter would be the present day story when Noah and Clari reconnected after many years of not seeing each other.

The past story included brief glimpses into what was going on in the characters’ lives through the years and felt so sweet and realistic. The modern day friendship that bloomed into romance was sigh worthy indeed. Clari had experienced so many disappointments in relationships in the past and it was clear that she was afraid to even hope that things would work out with Noah. And Noah had been through a lot of hurt and loss in the past few years. But they were so good together and both of them were characters that I connected with immediately. Noah’s daughter and Clari’s family were also important additions to the novel and added to the book’s focus on the importance of family. There was also a solid faith message that flowed through the story in a natural way.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This and Every Christmas was a delightful Christmas read of Noah and Clari. They met when they were younger at Noah's family's Christmas tree farm and then met again when they become adults. Each chapter begins with a flashback to various years when they were younger before going to present day. Noah and Clari's romance was sweet, and Lucy was adorable.

3 stars & 3/10 hearts. Well, this wasn’t what I expected! While it had all the hallmarks of “cute, contemporary Christmas romance,” it ended up twisting a lot of the tropes!

First of all, I loved how it was set in this wee little town, but mostly in a tree farm! That was so unique. I thought the writing style fit the book well, and there were some really great descriptions in there ;) The characters were nice too. Noah was a nice twist on the “mysterious, brooding hero,” as a great dad and a good man, but still reserved and definitely brooding. For Clari, it was great seeing a girl who not only thought she wasn’t pretty, but actually wasn’t, by the world’s standards. Both had great families, and I specially loved how close-knit the Sinclairs were, and how they kept up their traditions and honoured their parents. Lucy was very sweet, and Eden an interesting addition.

I enjoyed the way the storyline was set up, partly during their childhood, and partly during the present day. It was fun to see Noah & Clari’s history. The plot was laidback, and I loved that there wasn’t any Big Misunderstanding And Fight—the two of them actually communicated (how revolutionary!). Although the romance was a little more than I personally agreed with or liked (see content down below), I appreciated how Clari stuck to her standards and remained pure in spite of everything. Noah’s storyline was a surprise, but well done. Both characters had a great arc.

My favourite thing of the book was the theme: wait on God for Mr. Right. I love how Grammy prayed over it for Clari, and how Clari said she didn’t really have any demands—she just trusted God would show her who Mr. Right was. Actually, that’s when I started crying, because I thought I was the only one. I also really loved the theme of letting go of guilt and moving on, and coping with fear of loss.

Overall, it was a fun, Christmassy contemporary romance with surprising depth and sweetness. Everything is handled well and is non detailed, but I’d recommend it for ages 18+

Content: The storyline involves marrying a girl so she can be a wife before she dies. She wants to become pregnant; her husband doesn’t want her to, because it would endanger her life. This necessitates some comments on conception and poking holes in condoms, birth control pills, “doing the things married people do,” etc. There’s also talk of people kissing “with their tongues down each others’ throats,” and a scene where a guy kisses a woman in a very revealing dress and hucks her into his house. There’s mention of being abstinent (or not) before marriage, getting married instead of “burning with passion.” Clari dates a couple of times and kisses; there’s also some flirting. The romance is non detailed, but they do smell each other, hug, and kiss. Santa Claus does play a part, and there’s one euphemism. There’s also some talking to dead people.

A Favourite Quote: “...I’m scared. What if—”
…“Noah, don’t play the what if game. It only feeds fear. My life, your life, Lucy’s life—we’re all in God’s hands. He alone determines our days, remember?”

A Favourite Humorous Quote: Why did he have to be so wonderful with Lucy? Didn’t he realize how hard Clari was trying not to melt here?

What a unique way to write a story!
This wonderful author tells this story in time periods of two young people’s lives. Going from when they were young and first meeting each other one year, to when they first re-meet each other as adults. The story continues on this way each year back and forth.
I truly enjoyed this delightful Christmas tale.
It’s also all wrapped up in the fun of celebrating Christmas and all the traditions that go with the holiday.
This story is full of enjoyable moments that will touch your heart and bring delight to your soul.

Jaycee Weaver is a wonderful author who spins beautiful stories. Whenever I pick up one of her books I’m blessed. She packs fun quirky moments and deep life lessons into each of her books. I appreciate that her books aren’t too preachy, but they are real, and I can relate to the characters and what they are going through.

I read this book when it was part of another collection of sweet Christmas stories, now it’s on its own and more readers can be blessed by it.
I highly recommend you pick this book up.
I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This & Every Christmas is the first book I have read by Jaycee Weaver, but it will not be my last. This is the first novella in the Sinclair Sisters trilogy.

I was immediately drawn into the story of Clari and her family visiting the Christmas tree farm when she was thirteen years old. This is the first time she meets Noah. Fast forward to the present timeline, and she meets Noah again under different circumstances. The story alternates POVs between her and Noah, with flashbacks of Christmas' past.

This & Every Christmas is a super sweet, fun, unique, Christmas story. The story is seamlessly woven together. While it bounces between the past and present day, it is done well. There is a strong emphasis on family, traditions, and faith.

I so enjoyed this Christmas book. It is sweet, laugh out loud funny with tender sad moments. This is the book that put this author on my take notice list! The past is told in flashback style, so even though the book isn't all that long, it never seems rushed. Honestly, I want to be an observer of this family, but I am not sure I would want to grow up in it. So glad this is only the first book of the series. It leaves a lot to live up to.

📚THE STORY📚

Clari’s family loves Christmas. So much so that they named her and her two sisters after classic Christmas movie characters. One tradition in this holly jolly family is visiting a local Christmas tree farm every year, where they drink hot cocoa, ride a train, take a photo with Santa, and get an eco-friendly potted tree to take home.

Noah, the boy who works at the ranch, is Clari’s age. Every year, they notice each other, a crush growing between them despite only seeing each other once a year.

Now adults, Clari is a music teacher and Noah is a single father to a five year old girl. He’s also running the Christmas tree farm and its annual events on his own after losing the aunt and uncle who used to run the beloved local institution.

This Christmas, Noah finds himself overwhelmed by the responsibility - a situation made even harder after his daughter is injured at school. But when he goes to pick her up, he locks eyes with the same girl who captured his heart so many years ago.

Clari is a Christmas expert, so she steps in to help during the busy holiday season. Noah feels the sparks of his old crush leap back to life, but so much loss and pain has happened in his life since he was that boy taking Clari ad her family on Christmas train rides. Will the warmth of her hot cocoa heart be enough to melt Noah’s icy walls, or will he remain in the bleak midwinter of his life?

💕THE ROMANCE💕

Between an adorable five year old girl and a whole Christmas tree farm, there is plenty for Clari and Noah to get up to together. There are scenes of domestic bliss and fun ways for them to collaborate and show up for each other during a busy time. Noah is initially distant and cold, but we see the way Clari lights up his life. They flirt and delight in one another, and understand how to provide what the other person needs. Noah trusting Clari with his whole heart, and Clari bringing Noah into her raucous Christmas-y family, make this romance relatable and satisfying.

🎄CHRISTMAS🎄

This is perhaps one of the most Christmas-y Christmas romances I’ve read this year! Almost all of the action takes place at Noah’s Christmas tree farm, and Clari’s family is absolutely obsessed with the holiday. Costumes, traditional food, decorations, and visits from Santa make this novel burst with holiday cheer.

✝️FAITH ELEMENTS✝️

Both characters are Christian and pray for one another often. We see how both are answered prayers for each other in a way that’s really effective and sweet. Noah has his own unique prayer practice to help him stay connected with loved ones who have passed and live with his grief.

📝MY THOUGHTS📝

First off, I loved how absolutely drenched this book was in Christmas theming. It’s on every page and so central to the plot and the characters. It’s not a romance that takes place during Christmas, it is a Christmas romance!

I thought the dual timelines, especially with the switching between first and third person, was unique and interesting. It was a great way to meet the characters as their younger selves, in that teenage mindset of being boy crazy or figuring out who you are. And it really helped establish the arc of their romance as an answered prayer and part of their journeys through a life of faith.

Noah’s backstory has a lot going on, and the situation with his first wife and the birth of his child was unusual, but does a good job straddling the line between a romance that’s a second chance between childhood crushes who were each other’s destined true love but also has a single parent who was married before.

I thoroughly enjoyed This and Every Christmas and promptly binge read the whole Sinclair Sisters series! Funny stories of childhood family traditions told in the past and the present.

"When my Christmas-obsessed parents created a tradition, they went all out." Naming their children Clarice "after a lame bow-headed puppet reindeer from my grandma's childhood. So embarrassing", Cindy Lou "Yes Cindy Lou. As in the character from Dr Seuss's Grinch tale", and Charlie "after both Charlie Brown and the kid from The Santa Claus-my parents thought they were having a boy until she came out, but they decided Charlie was a cute girl's name and kept it." Each sister has their own book in the series.

Their family drove two hours to the Appel Baumfarm ("which meant Appel's Tree Farm in German") every year on Christmas Eve Eve to pick out a tree, ride a Christmas train, have delicious popcorn and hot chocolate. At thirteen, Clarice has a crush on the boy Noah working at the farm. But at thirteen she is embarrassed by the outlandish matching Christmas attire her family is wearing.

Flash forward to Clarice getting a job as a music teacher, and having little Lucy in her class. You can guess who Lucy's dad is.

This and Every Christmas is a sweet story of family and romance. I recommend the whole series! This is my first book by Jaycee Weaver and I look forward to reading more by her!

Matching family Christmas outfits season

I thought this was a sweet heart-warming Christmas season story. It was full of themes of imperfection, holiday traditions, acceptance, love and what it means to be a 'family'. I don't normally like constant time-skips or flashbacks, but in this book they worked and felt like memories surfacing with the trigger of a sight, sound, fragrance or a taste. One comment by the mother really hit me hard and brought tears to my eyes, because it is the story of my relationshop with my husband.

I purchased a copy of this story and voluntarily chose to share my review.

This and every Christmas

This story was so cute and sad as well. I love how they met when they were younger and they both had feelings for one another but was to shy to act on it, until Noah asked her to sit at the front of the train for a ride around park and she was wearing mistletoe and he kissed her on the cheek then they lost touch for a while and Noah married his best friend and had a child with her because she had a bad heart condition and she wanted to be married and have a child. They didn't have feelings for one another but he wanted to make his best friends wish come true. This a must read plus the his true love comes back into his life.

"Before her first breath, Lucy had me wrapped around her finger like a rachet strap. I understood the kind of love that had driven Eden to do what she did, but I was still so angry."

Noah was talked into marrying his best friend, but he certainly did not anticipate that decision would result in him becoming a single dad when his young wife died. Helping to run his family's Christmas farm takes a lot of energy. Enter Clari. She and her family have been coming to the Christmas tree farm for a long time. She is already connected to Noah and is glad to help.

What is fun about this series is there are plenty of flashback scenes. We get to know the characters in the present and the past. I think that helps the reader to appreciate the growth and progress made.

This is a sweet romance with plenty of laugh out loud as well as teary moments. The Sinclair parents certainly love Christmas - thankfully they also love their family. This is the perfect novella to help enter into the celebration of Christmas.

I read this book as a part of a Christmas compilation that I purchased. I read book 1 after book 2, but I still enjoyed it. I highly anticipated book three and loved that one as well!
