This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the 4th book in the Desert Justice series. I have read and reviewed the first two books in this series, but not the third book. I do think you can read this book as a standalone without any problem. This book is all about one of the main characters being in WITSEC and the other one sees something she should not which puts her in danger. This book is full of suspense and action. I love the characters. This book keeps you guessing, and the characters makes you fell in love with them. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Love Inspired Suspense) or author (Dana Mentink) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

The danger starts out pretty early in this novel and doesn’t let up for the entire book! Death Valley Hideout is the fourth book in the Desert Justice series but can easily be enjoyed if you haven’t read any of the other books.

Carter and Bee, Tony’s niece and nephew, were very believable with age appropriate behaviors and reactions to situations. There seemed to be less romance in this story than what I am used to in this author’s books and I would have definitely enjoyed a bit more of a build up of romantic tension. Yet, I still found this book hard to stop reading. The action scenes and trying to determine who was trustworthy kept me intrigued. There are two more books scheduled to be released in this series and I am looking forward to reading them.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

My Description:
Tony Ortega has to keep his little niece & nephew safe and being in WITSEC hasn’t been enough. Willow Duke, a Death Valley resident, and Tony have become good friends but a birthday surprise suddenly goes wrong. The children are in danger.

Willow being a Duke — Dukes don’t back off when trouble comes. Trouble in the form of a hitman after the children and Tony … and …

Review:
Suspense book or a thriller? Death Valley Hideout is both. Danger sweeps in and out of their lives with an occasional good night’s sleep thrown in.

The children in this book are a delight and a tension breaker. Especially endearing, the little girl has a special toy called Moo Moo that needs to be close to her 24×7.

Willow has these brothers and if Willow is in trouble, the brothers are there! If they could be 150% there, they would be. It doesn’t matter if they like Tony or not, Williow is now in danger — little kids are being threatened — so they invoke what I thought of as the Duke Mantra, “if you get one Duke, you get ’em all”. Tons of courage in this set of strong characters. And Tony is in trouble. A lot of trouble.

I’ve chosen to not write more about what happens in this book. If you like suspense with a bit of romance thrown in, you’ll enjoy Death Valley Hideout.

How is the “Faith part” handled?
In many ways, the same way most of us do. Prayers when things are bad. Thank-you prayers, help-us prayers. Faith is a part of who these people are.

I liked this book but it didn’t pull me in. Didn’t grab me which my five-star reviews do. Usually, I can define what was off-putting. Was it the pacing of the story? I didn’t feel the pacing was poorly done. The characters were good. Loved Willow’s brothers. The story was good; it just didn’t hold my interest for long periods. This was my first book by this author; would I read another one? Yes. Will I read this again? No. Thus rating is 3.5 stars, rounded to 4 for sites that only rate in whole numbers.

I received a complimentary e-ARC copy of Death Valley Hideout via NetGalley from the publisher, HARLEQUIN – Romance (U.S. & Canada), Love Inspired Suspense. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

The Duke family saga continues with “Death Valley Hideout,” book four in Dana Mentink’s Desert Justice series and part of the Love Inspired Suspense set. Even though I am not a fan of deserts, I have loved this series, and this book was my favorite story thus far. Likewise, Willow Duke stands out as my favorite character from amongst those featured in the books. Her tenacity in the face of life-threatening circumstances and her compassion despite past betrayal speak to the optimism that characterizes her. Tony Ortega is someone who was also easy to connect with because Mentink writes him realistically, as a man whose life has been upended and who is struggling to do the right thing in a situation with no good options. He’s in over his head, and I appreciate that Mentink portrayed his weaknesses. As Willow observes, “You’ve gotten through it one day at a time, alone…holding on to God’s provision. That is strength, Tony. That’s love.” Most of the time, when God calls us to a task, it is something that we can accomplish with His help alone, and Tony demonstrates that.

“Death Valley Hideout” delivers a perfect balance of suspense and romance. With an unrelenting pace and non-stop action, this book is a hard one to put down! The witness protection program (WITSEC) adds an extra layer of intrigue, while criminal cyberactivity highlights the reality of crime in the digital age. The story takes place outside the realms of a computer, however, and in the heat of the Death Valley landscape, where romance can blossom despite the sweltering temperatures. As with the previous books in the Desert Justice series, the family members all play a role in the story, and this close-knit clan is both humbling and inspiring in their dedication to the Lord and to one another, not to mention the comic relief that they add just when it’s needed. After all, the villain may seem to have the upper hand, “But the Maestro hadn’t counted on one thing…he’d never met the Duke family.” Discovering how this salt-of-the-earth family works together to accomplish daunting tasks by relying on each other and, most importantly, God, makes “Death Valley Hideout” and the entire Desert Justice series a wonderful reading experience.

Not knowing for certain who the villain in a story is keeps a reader on her toes, and Dana Mentink does this so well in Death Valley Hideout. There are plenty of possibilities, but true motives are unclear until the author reveals them.

As a member of the Duke family and a life-long resident of a town in Death Valley, Willow is one tough cookie. She doesn’t flee from danger. She faces it head-on, even when her brothers object. And she isn’t going to turn her back on two adorable kids who need protecting or the uncle who is caring for them.

Mentink delivers plenty of action while keeping readers on their toes with a hitman, others with questionable motives, and some life-threatening situations. Because Tony and Willow have begun a friendship, the romance progresses in a believable manner.

And I was happy to read there are two more books to come in the series. I’m putting my vote in for Jude to find his HEA!

Dana Mentink has long been one of my favorite LIS authors. Her books always have a lot of action, wonderful characters, interesting plots and perfectly timed pops of humor to lighten some very tense situations. This series centers around the Duke family who all live in Death Valley and all have the knack of running into trouble or knowing someone who does!

In this story, Willow Duke’s friend Tony is the one in trouble. He is in WITSEC with his niece and nephew. Once the hired killer finds out where they are at, the action starts and doesn’t stop until the last page is turned. While I would’ve liked to have a bit more romance between Willow and Tony in this story, I did enjoy the action scenes and guessing whether or not a certain character was good or bad.

Death Valley Hideout by Dana Mentink is book 4 of 6 in the Desert Justice series. It can easily be read as a standalone.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith thread is light.

Valley Hideout by Dana Mentink. Dana's books just get better and better. Suspense builds as life challenges surface over and over. Danger as Tony and Willow try to keep 2 kids safe many times. Faith as God is trusted to provide safety. Tony asks WDeathillow to watch the kids for day. She knows it is his birthday so wants to surprise him. She isn't prepared for what they encounter upon arrival. Willow's family all walk in to help protect since Willow refuses to walk away. Danger mounts. God protects them all over many situations. I challenge you to read this book and then all Dana's books. None will disappoint you.

"Death Valley Hideout" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the fourth in a series, but it works as a standalone. Tony worked to keep himself and his brother's children safe while a corrupt man tried to capture the children to use them against Tony's brother, who was the main witness in a trial against him. The suspense came from repeated attacks on Tony and his family. Willow wasn't trained to fight, but she's loyal, brave, and resourceful and found useful ways to help Tony and protect the kids. Go, girl.

The main characters were engaging and reacted realistically to events. Tony and Willow worked well together and encouraged each other. (I do wonder, however, where that much water came from since they're in Death Valley.) Tony taught his nephew to pray to God when scared, and both Willow and Tony were Christians. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable romantic suspense.

Told with the rich detail I have come to expect from Dana Mentink, Death Valley Hideout is another winner. This one has some unexpected twists and turns throughout that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Tony and Willow are such different personalities, it made the story interesting and fun as you work your way through unforgiving danger that comes from every front. Her descriptions give the reader the ability to feel like they are part of the setting and there's no lack of danger from the land itself. I loved Willow's bubbly optimism that carried her through the story. She never gave up hope, which was a great counter to Tony and the constant pressure he endured. I have read several books by this author and they keep getting better and better!

I loved this fast paced, action packed, clean suspense story. Great characters, great storyline, kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

Tony, Willow, Baby Bee and Carter are running from danger throughout the entire book trying to stay alive and figure out their next move. I liked that Willows family was also involved in protecting them.

Once you start reading this book, you won’t want to stop! Highly recommend!!

If you want lots of edge-of-your-seat action, relatable characters, and great detailed scenery, you’ve found all three in Death Valley Hideout. This is Dana Mentink’s fourth riveting book in her Desert Justice Series, but it can certainly be read as a stand-alone.

Willow Duke is smart, tough, and caring. When she learns that her friend Tony Ortega and his young niece and nephew are actually on the run from a hit man, she agrees to help shelter them in a secret location. It doesn’t take her long to fall in love with the children—and perhaps their uncle, too. Danger escalates and bullets fly. Will Willow and Tony be able to outmaneuver a killer and have the chance to pursue a relationship?

Dana Mentink’s books are always hard to put down. Death Valley Hideout is certainly no exception. She invites readers into the action right from the start and keeps them gasping for breath around every plot twist and turn until the final hurrah. Fans of romantic suspense will definitely not want to miss this novel. It is an interweaving of romance, suspense, and faith as only Dana Mentink can fashion.

Another great read set in Death Valley. Willow Duke a member of the well-known Duke family, finds herself in the middle of a race for her life. Tony, whose brother is a witness in an important high case trial to bring down a crime boss takes care of his brother's two children.

Lots of intrigue, suspense, family relationship issues, and mystery. At times it was hard to know whose side all the characters were on. It kept me on the edge of my seat even to the end. In the middle of the chaos, grows a high-tension romance that keeps those involved guessing. A sweet romance, inspirational and uplifting main characters, and a wonderful setting brings the best storyline. Highly recommended.

LOVE Inspired books are really a favorite of mine. They are short books, but packed with great stories. Dana Mentink has become my favorite Author for the LOVE Inspired Suspense book. She is back with the 4th book in the Desert Justice series, Death Valley Hideout. I have read the first 3 books in this series and was excited for Book 4.

Tony Ortega has to keep his little niece and nephew safe as his brother testifies in a high profile case. Tony and his niece and nephew are part of the WITSEC during this time to help protect them from the hit man after them. He takes them to Willow's Hideout, a local in Death Valley to keep them safe. Willow is a good friend of Tony's and wants to do all she can to help. Will they all survive the time of being hidden? Will sparks fly between Tony and Willow?

WOW, Dana Mentink has written another Suspensefilled book! The storyline captured me from the beginning and I finished the book within 4hrs. There twists and turns in the book really kept me glued to the storyline. I really LOVE how Tony is going to great lengths to keep his niece and nephew safe. Willow is such a wonderful girl who wants to help but also finds herself falling for Tony. This book is one of Suspense, Romance, Faith and so much more. Although this book reads great as a Stand Alone book, I would recommend starting with Book 1 in the series! HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who loves Suspense and Romance! AWESOME BOOK!

When the bullets start flying, can Tony Ortega protect his niece and nephew? They are in WISTEC until Tony's brother testifies against a dark web criminal who sent an assassin to kill them! That right there tells you this book has a lot of action! Willow is courageous woman in Furnace Falls who happens to be helping Tony with the children! She never thought she'd be dragged into assassin's bullets and crazy people trying to kill her and the kids she is watching! She also never thought she'd fall for Tony in the middle of all this going on! I have loved Willow's family from the other books in the series and I'm happy that they show up to help out in this book! The Duke family is "all for one and one for all"! This was a wonderful book and I especially enjoyed Willow's developing courage throughout the book. She just kept getting stronger which was a delight! Tony was great too as the kids softened him, even though they weren't his own. The kids' dad, Ron, was a piece of work though!

Death Valley Hideout is a romantic suspense novel written by Dana Mentink. It is book four in the Desert Justice series, but it is not necessary to have read the previous books in order to enjoy this one.

Summary: After a previously disastrous relationship, Willow Duke is determined to protect her heart. But she can’t help but be drawn to Tony Ortega and his sweet children.

Little does she know, his name is not Tony Ortega, they are not his children, and he’s on the run.

When danger comes to Death Valley, Willow must decide if she can overcome the lies and help Tony protect the children she has come to love.

My Thoughts: I liked this book. The entire thing is one action-packed chase scene after another, and there is also plenty of mystery surrounding exactly who is on who’s side. Overall, there is an interesting plot that kept me entertained (even though there are definitely a few unbelievable parts), and I liked the characters (especially Willow’s overprotective family.)

This is a quick and enjoyable read filled with action-packed adventure and a little romance on the side. And, I liked it enough that I am really interested to go back and read the previous books too.

I would like to thank HARLEQUIN – Romance for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you.

Death Valley Hideout is the fourth installment from Dana Mentink’s Desert Justice series. I have had the pleasure of reading the previous three books of the series and was excited to have the opportunity this one. I was far from being disappointed. Even though it is part of a series, I believe each one can be read as a stand alone. This time around readers get to know Willow Duke and Tony Ortega. The two get themselves into more than could have ever imagined. There is heart stopping action and danger. The twists at times made me feel as though I was on a thrilling roller coaster. I never knew what was going to happen next. I was often trying to predict at how it would turn out and found I was once again wrong. I was left on the edge of my seat until I read the very last page. I could not put it down from start to finish. It was a quick read but full of mystery and suspense that I love to read.

I am giving Death Valley Hideout a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romantic suspense. They will not want to miss this one or the other books from Dana Mentink’s Desert Justice series.

I received a digital copy of Death Valley Hideout from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

This is the latest in an ongoing series but can easily be read as a stand alone. Duke family members from previous novels are part of this one but only as support and not as main characters. Mentink again does a good job of establishing the setting in Death Valley.

There is a great deal of suspense in the novel but it is a bit repetitive and caused by missteps by characters. At times Tony and Willow venture out without proper protection. At other times those assigned to protect Tony and Willow are not savvy enough to do their job well. The US Marshal says after being outflanked by the villain yet again, “I'm getting sick and tired of this.” (1777/2878) There seems to be a mole in the operation. Mentink does a good job of presenting readers with plenty of suspects but the culprit was no surprise in the end.

This is a good novel for readers who like lots of suspense and a little romance and are not too concerned about the ease with which the villain outsmarts the good guys.

I received aa complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.

“Death Valley Hideout” by Dana Mentink was an interesting read. I had a little bit of a hard time getting into this book, but after I got into it, it was a great read. This book deals with a man placed in WITSEC. The characters were very likeable. This book was a little predicable but was still an enjoyable and easy read.

I love being back in Death Valley overlooking the desert in this heart pounding book. The beginning is an adrenaline rush with a helicopter, bullets flying and a child that has been abducted. I held my breath as the chase scene played out. What an opening for a story that promises to give us a ride into danger at every stop.

Willow steps into a web of deceit when she tries to surprise her friend Tony on his birthday. Everything she knew about him is a lie and now she isn’t sure if she is safe or not. I can’t imagine being in the WITSEC program but it looks like Tony and his brother’s children are in it. I could feel chills going down my arms as Willow discovers that she is now a part of whatever Tony is mixed up in. Can you hear her heart pounding? Mine would be as I realized that my life would never be the same again. Willow is a very brave woman and I loved her determination to keep the children safe.

Tony is in a big mess thanks to his brother Ron. What is going to happen now that Ron has disappeared and left his children in Tony’s care? The author does an amazing job of letting us witness the turmoil Tony goes through as his anger surfaces. I would be upset too if a family member left me high and dry. This wasn’t suppose to be Tony’s fight but thanks to his brother he now has to get out of a mess that is dangerous.

I’m not sure when I started breathing again but this story has all the boxes checked off for an exceptionally well written suspenseful adventure. Along the journey we get to witness the struggles that each character faces. Willow has a deep scar of betrayal from someone which keeps her from trusting. We all carry scars but the important lesson is to let God heal those scars and show you that He can always be trusted. Tony has always been there to bail his brother out of trouble. I liked how Tony’s heart opened to love his niece and nephew and give them stability. Tony starts to wonder if he can trust his brother or his uncle that shows up unexpectedly.

This story is special to me because it helped me remember that when we face challenges God is right there with a plan. When we go through a trial it makes us stronger and helps us grow in our faith. Tony and Willow both faced decisions in their lives that took them through danger. In the midst of their battle they found love, trust and the importance of family.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

I love this series!

My rating is 4.5 stars

I've enjoyed getting to know the Duke family through the Desert Justice series. Death Valley Hideout is Willow's story, though with this close-knit family, that only means that she has a little more air-time than her protective brothers and cousin.

While I enjoy stories with strong heroines, I'm partial to those who are more human. Who aren't tough and able to conquer every physical challenge. Willow is an everyday woman who got caught up with a man with secrets - Tony. While not possessing supernatural abilities, she did have a strong protective instinct that had her doing all in her power to keep Tony's charges safe. I loved that maternal side of her that cared for them so well.

I also enjoyed Tony, who was hiding from a man determined to destroy Tony's brother who was not afraid to step on anyone who got in his way. Tony's faith was strong enough to carry him through doubts and fears. He also cared deeply for his niece and nephew and was willing to do whatever he needed to protect them.

This fun story started with a bang and only allowed for a few breathers as Willow and Tony did all they could to stay alive. Sweet romance, adorable children, hiding in the vast desert.

Readers who enjoy romantic suspense with a touch of faith will want to read Death Valley Hideout and the entire Desert Justice series. Be sure to read them in order for the most enjoyment.

Death Valley Hideout is part of the Desert Justice series that is written by Dana Mentink. This is book 4 in the series. I have been fortunate enough to read the whole series, but they can be read as stand alones. While previous characters will make appearances the author gives a quick recap when they enter the story.
Willow Duke has befriended Tony Ortega and his two cute little kids. Only to find out that he is not who he says he is. The cute kids, Carter and Bee are actually his brother's children that he is keeping safe in the witness protection program. His brother, who is a mess, has made some people mad. He is trying to blackmail a dark web giant - and thinks that is better then testifying against the man. Now he has put everyone at risk. Willow and Tony are not sure who they can trust in the small town.
The book starts off with action and does not let up for you to catch your breath. I am a huge fan of this author and she always writes such creative stories. Willow's brothers are great protectors and will do anything to help keep their sister safe.
There are two more books in the series, and I cannot wait to read them. The characters are well developed, and the story line packed full of action.
Thank you the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book, all thoughts are my own.

How does wanting to surprise a friend for his birthday turn into running for all of your lives? Well, that is exactly how Willow Duke feels when she takes her new friend's, Tony Ortego's, kids up to surprise him. As the truth slowly comes out, she soon finds out that she has gotten caught up in a serious family drama and the witness protection program. Feeling betrayed to be put in such a perilous situation, she just wants to move on. The trouble is, she cares for those kids, and she knows Tony is in need of help. Especially when they don't know who they can trust or not trust.

Even with the help of Willow's family, the danger continues to mount and there are some serious harrowing moments littered throughout this story. But as Tony and Willow began to rely on one another to see these kids safely live out their lives, they also begin to fall deeper for one another. Is there a chance for a real family between them? One without lies and danger all around, hopefully. This was a great suspense taking place in the desert, again keeping us on the edge of our seats in a way that only author Mentink can tell it.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Death Valley Hideout. This is book four in the series Desert Justice. I'm a huge fan of Dana's writing so I'm always thrilled to get one of her books in the mail. This story is well-written, action-packed, and full of intrigue. I know you are going to love it.

Willow Duke decided to give her friend a surprise birthday. He's a widower with two small children. She and the children will surprise him. When she arrived at the airfield he was arguing with a man. As she tries to figure out what was happening the little boy tels his baby sister "look it's Daddy" The men look like brothers but Tony doesn't have any brothers. Does he?

Tony Ortega's brother went into WITSEC. Tony is watching his two children until he testifies. His brother shows up to take the kids on the run with him. He has left WITSEC and is blackmailing killers. Now the Marshals are after him along with the killers. Only Willow can help him?

An exciting journey to escape the killers, Marshals, and find his brother. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction even in this time of chaos. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.

A man in hiding. A family who will protect their own at all costs. And a woman with a heart for children and the one man who doesn’t want her. Oh, and history of choosing the wrong man. Can she trust her heart this time? And will she be able to save the children she’s come to love?

Death Valley Hideout is part of a six-book series that will leave you on the edge of your seat biting your nails till the very end. I personally have loved every book in the series. And my kids are loving them as well. I love that they’re solid in their Christian values so that I don’t have to worry about any questionable content.

Willow is a fun Duke to get to know in this book as we’ve already gotten to know part of her family. I can’t wait to see who comes next! Oh, and the kids steal the show. For real.

Tony Ortega finds himself in the desert with two small children after his brother's dirty dealings puts their lives in danger. After inadvertently pulling Willow Duke into danger as well, they must together fight for their lives.

A fast paced read that starts with action from the very start, I felt so bad for Tony and Willow who got swept into this whole mess through no fault of their own. I could understand Willow's distrust of Tony, but I liked how they worked together to keep the children safe.

There is a lot going on, with a lot of action, and adorable children. Great tension, and a suspenseful plot that had me wondering if there was any way out. I liked seeing familiar faces from previous books in the series (though you can definitely read this as a standalone), and I admired Willow for her courage and quick thinking.

Overall, this was an action packed adventure that kept me guessing, with strong themes of faith and family. A great installment to the series!
