War is coming to the Realms of Light. Aranos destroyed a Nightmare Beast and wounded a god. The Darkness cannot let his actions stand. Armies are marching, and the lands of the Light are scattered, disorganized, and unprepared for the battles to come. Cities lay under a pall of Corruption, their leaders serving the Darkness while pretending to follow the Light. It's up to Aranos to unite the lands and forge their armies into a force that can withstand the Darkness. To do that, though, he'll have to face hidden enemies, battle the rulers of nations, and convince the people of the Light to march under his banner. The key to victory is the Arcane Doors, but they may also be the instrument of the Light's destruction...
Kyle Johnson is a kids gymnastics and martial arts instructor who teaches outside of Chicago. He's worked on cruise ships, traveled the world, climbed glaciers, ziplined between mountains, and even danced in the end of a rainbow.
Currently, his main hobbies include helping his wife raise their two kids, because after that, who's got time for hobbies?
The absolute excellence that I have come to expect from this series and author.
This is another great installation in one of my favorite series. Like every other book I couldn’t put it down until I finished and regretted that it was over when I had completed it. This book continues to build on the greatest of the previous 4 being more action, fun and heart to the world of Ka and beyond.
Yet another amazing book by Kyle, Aranos is such a creative chat and I really enjoy how he thinks through problems. The uniqueness of this world is a favourite of mine for sure, the rewards one can get if only they think things through are amazing. Can’t wait for book 6!
Singularity is much more than a game, it’s a passion project
Aranos/Jeff is fighting inside and outside the game of singularity, a game which has crossed the lines into reality while players are living it with full immersion. Big dreams are wrapped up in this game now more than ever, while for others it is an improvement over their real lives and health.
It is time for the Light to stop living in fear of the Darkness and Aranos and his party, the Ascendants, are leading that charge to reclaim what was lost. War has come to the lands of Light again!
The head of the company does not want getting away from him, even though that already happened after the AIs took over the game.
Now players are challenged and train to improve their characters with few knowing that some of those changes are affecting their bodies and minds out of game… that could be amazing for healthcare and frightening for many.
But it’s just a game, right? Logout and the consequences disappear…
I love the series and normally have given it 5 stars. This book, book 5, however, has significant editing errors.
Starting about 3% in you start getting blank pages before and after the first character sheet of Aranos. It is clearly evident entire paragraphs, possibly even pages of text are missing as the story jumps with no rhyme or reason. Unfortunately, this happens repeatedly in book 5 causing a bit of confusion and of course annoyance as you try and figure out if you missed anything vital.
Just between 3% and 7% of the book these blank pages and missing story occurred 4 times.
Kyle you REALLY need to re-edit and publish a corrected edition. It's so annoying I did not even finish book 5 before writing this review. So far the story (that is not missing) is just as great as the first 4 books, please don't let this rather good story suffer in reviews do to editing issues, fix these blank pages.
He's become Master of an Elven House, Heartbonded of More than one city, and teacher to another aspiring sorcerer. His race has evolved from aleen to high arcane and more changes are likely as he progresses. What he will eventually become neither he nor the AIs running the Singularity experiment can predict.
This novel, and the series of which it is a part, fit into both the Science Fiction and Fantasy genres. The basic premise of the plot puts the events of the novel in a Science Fiction setting, but as most of the characters' actions occur in the Virtual Reality Fantasy World of Ka, the novel also falls into the LitRPG Fantasy genre. Despite how one classifies the novel's, and series', genre it is a great read for fans of all the genres it falls into.
Book 5 of a fantasy LitRPG or GameLIT series about a futuristic in-development VR system where people use it for a week or more to play in a D&D like fantasy world. I'm still loving this series especially how much focus there is on progression. So many skills, spells, perks, titles, mana types that can be unlocked, upgraded, or combined. I still appreciate how each book has its own climax and the story doesn't just stop/pause like most LitRPG series.
The tale of Aranos advances in this newest volume. War with the Darkness has come and only Aranos and his companions are brave enough to stand. New secrets are revealed, powers obtained, and battles fought. This is a must read for those who have loved Singularity Online. I can't wait for the next volume.
Once again Singularity Online has upped the ante. I didn’t think it was possible after the conclusion of the last book, but our intrepid Author found a way. He’s crafted another masterful work and I’m stuck once again waiting on the next one…
A very fun book to read. I really enjoy all the amazingly cool things that the main character does. I also like that the main character is just a good guy and hero.
My only complaint with the book is the use of profanity. That is why it received 4 stars instead of 5.
This world feels so alive. The story ever progressing and changing with a depth that's beautiful. I can not wait for the next installment to see why the doors were sealed
From book one to book 5, these are some of the best examples of truly great storytelling that I've come across, and that covers thousands of books and hundreds of authors. Well done and I look forward to seeing what happens next!
