His Highness's Second Wife

His Highness's Second Wife: Part 1

Rate this book
After being stabbed in the real world, Lydia Myles wakes up in the body of Lady Raena Magrath, the only daughter of the Prime Minister of the Etrobia Empire and a fictional character in the most boring book Lydia has ever read.

Raena is a slow-witted, weak and useless side character with no redeeming qualities if you don’t count her delicate beauty. Her only purpose in the story is to become the second wife of the third prince and the Empire’s most renowned warrior, Prince Kassian Etrobia.

This is a marriage of convenience, not one of love. Lydia knows that.

She knows that Prince Kassian is going to divorce Raena when he falls madly in love with the main character of the book - Elene, a slave girl from the recently conquered kingdom. Not only that, both his royal brothers would fall under the spell of the same girl, resulting in a vicious power struggle for the heart of the woman they love. Blood will spill, heads will roll and amid all that, an outside enemy will step in to take advantage of the Empire’s exposed weakness, resulting in yet another war.

So what is Lydia’s plan? Get rich. Get divorced. Get out of Etrobia and find some quiet, safe city to live a life of luxury and pleasure. It shouldn't be that hard when you know what is going to happen, right?

There is only one problem - some characters keep going off-script.

Her husband, who was never supposed to be interested in her, keeps seeking her out and with every next encounter, it gets harder and harder for Lydia to keep away from him. Elene never does anything to catch any of the princes’ attention, resulting in all of them looking to one particular wife that has turned way more interesting than everybody thought. And there is one mysterious stranger that keeps circling around her like a hawk, waiting for its prey to fall into his hands.

I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM SAYING THIS. THIS A BIG DECLARATION. BUT THESE ARE THE BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ. THE BEST SERIES EVER. PERIOD.
If you're looking for something you've never read before. Read this series.
This book is about a woman who wakes up after being st@bbed inside the most boring book she's ever read. Inside the body of an insignificant secondary character who is married to a prince. Her plan was to use her knowledge of the book to get rich while the empire and the royal family falls apart just like the book. But of course things don't go her way when her estranged husband starts to notice her...
The 1st book was mind-bl0wing. The second was even more mind-bl0wing.
These book will make you laugh. These books (especially the 2nd) will make you ball your eyes out. These book will bl0w your mind into a million pieces.
These books are written by the genius Scarlett Strange.

A very enjoyable book. The story was well thought out in advance (unlike in a lot of books published on reading apps) with a good pacing.
The characters were likeable. They had their motivations and their actions were usually very logical in the given circumstances; they weren't acting stupidly just to move the plot forward. I liked that the main character wasn't perfect. She made mistakes and some stupid decisions but not in a way that would make me want to slap her and throw the book (or in this case my phone) across the room. Well, except for one occasion near the end (you know what I am talking about, Scarlett). Her flaws made her more realistic.
The villain in the story was great! I couldn't help but root for them a bit.

Once you start reading this book, you'll not be able to put it down.
I'll not say a word more about this book, but I'll say something about my experience with it. I fell in love with a few secondary characters. Because of one of them my grown up mind started dealing with fanfiction and if you ever visit Scarlett's fan group, you'll see that I'm not the only one.
You have already guessed, its amazing story. And what's even better, there is the second book too.

It is BY FAR my favorite book by this author!

The book begins with a situation we all find ourselves in: you start a book and don't finish it, for various reasons... but what happens when you get there, in the middle of the book's action?
you only read between the lines of the book and the important details escape you.. what will you do: do you join the action of the story or do you mind your own business, to survive on your own?

Read to find out, I have already chosen my favorite and bookboyfriend from this book.

Although I like spoilers, I won't give any.

Enjoy reading!!

I read this as a single book and unfortunately, with parts one and 2 combined it was too long for a single sitting at over 100 chapters. Yet this is such a fabulously engrossing story that I couldn't put it down and ended up reading MUCH too late and paying for it the next day. I just couldn't wait to find out what Raena was going to get up to next and how events would unfold.

THe characters are all so interesting and relatably human with strengths, flaws, vulnerabilities and understandable motivations. So no-one was all good or all bad. THe 'hero' made mistakes and were not perfect and the villains had redeeming qualities and/or reasons for their actions.

I was not a big fan of our MMC Kassian for the first half of the book - mainly for how he treats the women on his life so Raena's masquerade as a simpleton and how she messes with his head was hilarious. I adore Raena with all her schemes and acts and manipulation - because none of it was malicious it was for survival. But she is also relatable because she doesn't always make the right decision. For a good portion of the storu, even tho I was suspicious of the Raena's Craidal servants from the start and guessed their identity I preferred Zen. Then Kassian improves and Zen hmm what is the opposite of that - devolves?. Elene was a super interesting character too with complex loyalties and motivations. I loved Kara and the friendship between her & Raena - there was a certain event at which point I was most distressed. And I loved how it was Raena's loyalty to Kara that made her give up her act. Raena's brother was also sweet.

This is an excellently intricate, and perfectly balanced story depicting much of the strangeness, and difficulties of waking up in a body unfamiliar to you. The story arcs (of which there are many) are excellently developed, allowing the characters to play out in their own time. They are deep characters that you feel like you know, and as the plot thickens, so does their depth. This book does not shy away from the darker side of humanity, at the same time as bringing to light laughter. I enjoyed this book thoroughly, and as someone who found it on an online app am so brilliantly pleased that the author has managed to have her work published. It is well worth a read, as long as you are not after a light romance with 2 dimensional characters. Absolutely spectacular read.

Well, my only options for reading this book is ordering it from Amazon, but the shipping costs are higher than the price of the book.
Or a site that lets me buy each chapter and read it online, which would also make the price of this book way more than it has to be.
So no, as interesting as it is, I’m not doing any of those.

The premise was really interesting and was a real pageturner especially when we're thrust in the middle the story right at the beginning... but then at some point it got too long. The writing was nice; however I wasn't really convinced that the love story was necessary for the development of the plot.

This was my first work by Scarlett Strange, and it was a page turner!

I loved how Raena was intuitive enough to try to make the best of a terrible situation. Most of all I loved that she wasn't a wilting flower waiting to be rescued.

I started reading this and then just couldn’t stop. This was fun and such a great adventure all the way through. Court politics, interesting characters and tone of twists. Definitely not your typical fantasy and it works so well. Such a wonderful read. Can’t wait to dive into part 2.

Livro muuuito bom, mas não vale a grana que fazem vc pagar por ele. Faltou 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 porque parece que a autora tava concorrendo a um prêmio e não podia, mas o que tinha 😋

4.5

Super engaging and I loved the concept. I docked a half star because I didn't feel the chemistry as much. But love the FMC and her story, even if it is a long one.

This felt like a long story but only because the plot was thick. I've read webtoons and manga with the isekai theme, this is it! I loved it so much 😆

This book is AMAZING! The characters, the setting, and the idea of the ripples we put out into our lives as we make each choice. Such a great read and the author is amazing! I first read this book on a reading app and she was so wonderful to interact with all of our comments. The most fun I have had reading a book. I might re-read it!
