William and his friends now know more about their world than ever before …

Yet they’ve never felt so lost.

Is now the time to turn back?

Their journey has already taken more from the group than they were ever prepared to give, and they still don’t know what lies south of the prison’s walls.

But if they give up now and return to the north, will they forever regret it? Will they always wonder about what could have been? They’ve come this far, shouldn’t they just push on?

To go south means to pass through thousands more hostile prisoners and guards out for their blood. They’ll have to navigate booby-trapped mazy paths designed to dishearten and disorientate.

Having already been on a journey that’s taken more than most of them were willing to give, what will be left of them if they ever reach their destination?

And will they all make it out alive?

“This is all well and good,” William said, “but can you get in?” “Does a diseased shit its pants when it turns?”

As our gang of heroes fight their way through the prison. They are aided by none other than the 'best character' ever Joni.

Michael had written Joni so perfectly her madness oozes of every page, and has you laughing at the same time.

“Of course. You’re in Joni’s playground. Joni knows where everything is. We go to it, we frazzle it so it won’t work again anytime soon, and Bob’s Fanny’s.” “Bob’s what now?” “Uncle and aunt. Come on.” Joni waved Olga on. “This way.”

With yet another ending leaving me completely slack jawed! I cannot wait for 13 :D

But even if they didn’t …

… it only takes one.

I cannot believe we are on book 12 of this amazing post-apocalyptic survival thriller and the books keep getting better. I have just finished reading this book and my heart cannot stop racing as our team of survivor friends attempt to get to the South, hoping it would be better than the North they had traversed, but first they had to get out of the prison complex which was so chock-full of danger. They had to avoid the guards, guns, dogs, drones and prisoners who were all out to get them but now they had Joni on their side. Only Joni was quite deranged and they didn't know whether they could trust her. Artan particularly just wanted to kill her for keeping him imprisoned and tied up and away from Nick for so long, but she knew the complex inside out and could get around with her eyes closed. Joni is a fairly new character who was introduced to the series and I love the input she gave to make this book so interesting. Turns out her suffering at the hands of Louis, the maniac who ran the prison, had made her crazy but in the end she was not as crazy as they reckoned she was, and her need for vengeance was what led her on to save all their butts. This escape attempt is one of the most thrilling books in the series, it kept me up doing an all-nighter till I reached the end and boy what an ending this was!! Roll on book 13.

This 12th episode in the Beyond These Walls series follows the group as they navigate the prison assisted by Joni. Along with plenty of action, this episode provides an excellent backstory for Joni. After reading it, I had a whole new appreciation for her. I won’t go into any detail on this story because I believe it would spoil it for readers. But I will say I enjoyed this episode and like how it sets the stage for the next episode. If you have been following this series you have to read Escape. I received Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.

I love this series and with the introduction of a new character in the last book a slightly crazy Joni. The series goes from strength to strength. Will the friends escape the prison and finally reach the safety of the south. Escape is a fantastic rollercoaster full of action and adventure plenty of twists and turns. Plus more is revealed of Joni's back story and just how resourceful she is. Definitely recommend

William and his friends now know more about their world than ever before …

The north might be filled with diseased, but they’re the devil they know.

But should they let familiarity and fear dictate their futures?

Summary:
The guys thought they were finally safe, but that couldn’t be further form the truth. After meeting their savior Joni they learn that there is more to this side of the fence they they imagined. They know they need to escape, but the only way is with Joni’s help and she isn’t very stable. The division of who is an enemy isn’t as clear as they thought. Joni knows all the secrets and ways to hide, but can they trust her?

This was a wild ride form start to end giving the reader a trip into a dystopian future where safety and home may be just a dream or illusion. The gang will need to put their faith in each other and their trust that a future of freedom is possible if they can stay alive long enough to full fill their dream.

Conditions in the prison aren’t much better than outside, because the refugee group is still hated by both the elites and those that are preyed upon. Our friends have to decide whether to completely trust Joni, the strange woman who pulled them into hiding in the prison, but she appears to be unstable. She had ‘escaped’ the prison, but remained hidden for twenty years within its air ducts and forgotten passageways, watching for opportunities to wreak vengeance on certain hated guards. Could the group depend on her and each other to fight their way out to the hoped-for safety of the South? This was another wild ride through constant danger and the group had to continue to dig deep within themselves if they wanted to survive. Mr. Robertson continues to weave danger into a study of human emotions as the characters face situations that take them through sudden changes of high hopes and deep despair. I continue to hang on to the edge of my seat, as the tension rises, not wanting to put the book down, rooting for our friends to keep plugging. I am eager to read the next book in this series.

Excellent!

This is my favourite series by this author and book 12 did not disappoint. The 'gang' are in for a menagerie of battles and dilemmas and it was great to see how each would react. They all have distinct personalities.

I really liked the point of view from Joni - extremely well done and very sad. Of course, I despised the villains. I also sighed at how those in control (rich and powerful) used the less fortunate for their own entertainment and realised that though this is a fantasy, it's also true to life regarding the actions of the majority of humans.

Plenty of actions, thoughts and feelings, together with a great plot and sense of place, made this a compelling read - certainly fast-paced and very well-written.

I've pre-ordered #13; shame it's so far away.

Highly recommended.

I have read each book in this series "Beyond these walls" and book 12 really helps define our heroes. Moral dilemmas, killing to survive, horrible hardships, readers are thinking - It can't really get much worse. Compared to how this team of youngsters started out, they are really in the frying pan now. This series has been a good zombie story, this chapter even made it better. I was more surprised by the ending than anything else. I mean, they didn't even talk or try to rectify the issue. They knew better, right? I was lucky enough to score an ARC copy, this is an honest (though slightly late) review.

Glad to be moving on to next book

I really like Michael Robertson and have thoroughly enjoyed this series. However, the books set in the steel prison have not been my favorites. At times, for me at least, it has been hard to follow what was going on inside the walls. I had started to think maybe the series, now a dozen books, had gone on a book or two too long. I miss the energy and dynamic of the younger versions of William, Tilly, Olga, etc. But, the book ended well and we seem to be off on, literally and figuratively, a new chapter. With that in mind, I am willing to give book 13 a chance.

Excellent dystopian thriller!

I believe Michael Robertson perfected nail-biting suspense in this 12th book of the Beyond These Walls series. As a warning, there is also one deeply deranged and violent man that has a large role. On the up side, when I began reading it was like a reunion with old friends. The characters are that realistic to me as is the world. I highly recommend it.

WOW! I have loved all the books in this series, but this one is my favorite so far. All the characters that we know and love who have survived are in this book. The newest character Joni Muldoon is something else. She has some mental issues, but she is a good person and just the right person for what is needed in this book. The warden of the prison is an evil piece of work. I loved the story and think you will too so I recommend it highly.

Once again, Joni proves herself to be the best character within this series. She somehow manages to perfectly highlight the horrors of her society, whilst also providing endless comedy throughout the book. Seeing her opinion on the characters we’ve known from the beginning is incredibly interesting, and I love her relationship with Olga... who until now had not been getting the appreciation that she rightly deserves! Her madness is written so vividly that you can almost picture her, and I genuinely think I’d read a story with no plot as long as she was the narrator!

Action and suspense from start to finish. There were explanations about some things I had been wondering about. A great read.
