About the author

Sugathakumari (born 1934) is an Indian poet and activist, who has been at the forefront of environmental and feminist movements in Kerala, South India. She played a big role in the Save Silent Valley protest. She formed Abhayagrama, aka Abhayagramam, a home for destitute women (Athani) and a day-care centre for the mentally ill. She was the former chairperson of the Kerala State Women's Commission.

ഇതിഹാസ കാവ്യമായ മഹാഭാരതം കുട്ടികൾക്ക് മനസ്സിലാകുന്ന രീതിയിൽ വളരെ ലളിതമായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ് ഇവിടെ. വ്യാസമഹർഷി ഗണേശനെ കൊണ്ട് മഹാഭാരതം രചിക്കുന്നതിന് പിന്നിലെ കഥകൾ പറഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടാണ് തുടക്കം. മഹാഭാരതം മുഴുവൻ ഇതിലടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. എല്ലാവർക്കും അർഹിക്കുന്ന പ്രാധാന്യം കൊടുക്കുകയും കഥകളും ഉപകഥകളും വ്യക്തമായി തന്നെ പറഞ്ഞു പോവുകയും ചെയ്തു. പാണ്ഡവരുടെ സ്വർഗ്ഗാരോഹണത്തോടെ അവസാനിക്കാതെ പിന്നീട് നടന്ന കാര്യങ്ങൾ കൂടി ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തി ഇതിനെ മഹത്തായ ഒരു രചനയെ മാറ്റി. കുട്ടികൾക്കു മാത്രമല്ല മുതിർന്നവർക്കും ആസ്വദിക്കാൻ പറ്റുന്ന എഴുത്ത് ആണിത്.

ഭാരതത്തിന്റെ ഇതിഹാസകൃതി, സാരാംശം ഒട്ടും ചോർന്ന് പോകാതെ മുതിർന്നവർക്കും കുട്ടികൾക്കും ആസ്വദിക്കാവുന്ന രീതിയിൽ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു. വായിക്കുമ്പോൾ പണ്ട് സ്കൂൾ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ,ദൂരദർശനിൽ സംപ്രേഷണം ചെയ്ത 'മഹാഭാരത്‌' എന്ന പുരാണസീരിയലിലെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ ഓർമ്മ വന്നു.
