Students of the prestigious Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School are given remarkable freedom--if they can win, barter, or save enough points to work their way up the ranks! Ayanokouji Kiyotaka started at the bottom in the scorned Class D, where he met Horikita Suzune, who was determined to rise up the ladder to Class A. Who can beat the system in a school where cutthroat competition is the name of the game? The second year of this intense school drama begins now!
I have to give it to Syougo Kinugasa. These past few volumes, 11, 11.5, and Y2 vol 1 have been some of the most captivating, heart pumping, thrilling books I have read in my reading career. These volumes were so good, they even caused me to make a goodreads account, just so I could rate and review these literary masterpieces. But we're not here to talk about that. We're here to talk about Y2 volume 1. I would write a lengthy, detailed explanation on why this was a masterpiece of a volume, but i'm an extremely lazy person. Even writing this review has taken a considerable amount of energy. jk. but i am lazy. So here's my two sentence review.
If I could sum up this volume in one word, that word would be...beautiful. It was simply beautiful.
As mentioned in the last volume of year 1, Ayanokouji will soon face the challenge of another white room student. That student will enroll in the Advanced Nurturing High School. It was like solving a murder mystery as I was totally investigated in finding out who it is and even Ayanokouji showed concerns for not being able to trust any first year student. The new special exam is also a trap for Ayanokouji and it was so tense all the time, not sure if one should love or hate the new characters in the story as one doesn't know if they are the white room student or not. This time around the special exam was definitely still in the focus, but more of the preparations towards it then the actual exam, which makes sense ones the reader knows the details of the exam. I definitely hope that the next exam will be something that can be shown in the book rather than just showing the results of it as I really enjoy seeing the special exams on its own and how each character deals with it.
There are three new students in particular that stood out for me and one that I think is more important than one might think at first. The first of them getting introduced was Housen Kazuomi (Class 1-D). Sometimes I was questioning his sanity and sometimes just his intelligence. If you don't like misogyny characters (like me) you will definitely not like him. If you don't like Ryueen, you probably won't like him. If you do like Ryueen, you perhaps like him. Only plus point for him is that he made the plot more interesting and that I also had to laugh when Ryueen called him a Gorilla.
The next new character is Nanase Tsubasa (Class 1-D). She reminded me of Captain Tsubasa, but only really 'cause of the name. She gives me lots of iffy feeling. Like she acts in such a kind way that I do doubt that she is truly just kind. Hope she doesn't turn out to be like Kushida or something. Her way of trying to help out her own class was nice of her, but I don't agree the way she is doing this.
After these two got introduced we got a short introduction of Yagami Takuya (Class 1-D). He might not seem that important in the story, but I have the feeling like he will soon based on his past. Also, he seems a bit too nice as well. I stopped believing since the incident with Ichinose that any character is genuinely kind, but that they do this to take people and situations for their advantage.
Lastly, Ichika Amasawa (Class 1-A). Look, I don't have anything really against her, she's funny, but her name is something else. I tried memorising her last name, but no matter what I do, I wrote it down incorrectly, I never saw anyone named Amasawa before and I'm perplexed seeing this name out of nowhere. She's a diva and I love her for it. Moreover, we have the same quirk for being picky when it comes to food, so I felt connected with her quickly. I also had to laugh when she first came into the story as she acted very indecisive, which made me bemused of her true intentions, but it turned into amusement soon after.
My favourite part was definitely the ending, I gasped so often for air, it was crazy. Even crazier was the reason why I was so shocked as the book outsmarted me and I really didn't see that plot twist coming. I somewhat had already made up a theory about all this, but that was just the structure of what was actually happening. Another thing that surprised me a bit was when I was watching carefully for any content warnings to include in my review that it was so different from the other books.
The first book of the second year has definitely an amazing start with lots of action near the end and a tense atmosphere throughout the whole book. I really had fun and I think that the second year will even be better than the previous one!
The ending wasn't really a cliffhanger, but it makes me want to read the next book asap. Our mc started to show his true ability and here I am screaming my heart out.
Thank you to Syuougo Kinugasa and Tomseshunsaku for such a great novel! I enjoyed reading.
𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐀𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐤𝐨𝐣𝐢 𝐊𝐢𝐲𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐚. A feeling of intense hatred, which an unrelated third party who hadn't been raised in that facility could not understand. Sometimes, that feeling would swell to the point where it could no longer be contained, and it would spark an outburst.
--In this 1st light novel of Classroom of the Elite, we are introduced to some new characters;
-Nanase Tsubasa, 1st year. She is told to be a very sociable girl, with a polite demeanor. Although she's in Class D, it doesn't stop her, and she said confidently that she'll never resort to violence. She speaks confidently to Ayanokoji when saying, glaring at him with rage and anger, as she thinks he's a brutal monster.
-Housen Kazuomi, 1st year. His looks would be probably the first thing you notice, as he looks like he's wild, and it's confirmed that he's definitely wild, if you finish the book.
-Ichika Amasawa, 1st year. In the first couple of pages, she is shown. If you use information from year one, you'll know who Horikita is (Suzune). Although Ichika is a first year, she would soon later promise to work with Suzune to at least get to Class B. It is said that Ichika possesses great levels of seductiveness, and could seduce Sudou with one finger. That's why it's soon said that she looks like a girl who only cares about popularity, but she is pretty intelligent as she has an A in academic ability.
-Takuya Yagami, 1st year. In this novel, he isn't shown in the first couple of pages, but he's shown in 100+. Haruka and Akito were talking about him soon enough, and how he's smart, and probably one of the most dangerous people in school. He talks gently and softly spoken to people, but he's deceiving, and also deceived Ayanokoji once. That doesn't mean he can beat him, though. People prefer Yagami as 'The Strongest Ayanokoji Victim,' which is sad, because he spent all his life chasing him, and then just got that title, instead of beating him on fully. He held a lot of potential, but it didn't work out for him in the end.
-Riku & Tsubaki, both 1st years, and they both are in Class 1-C. (First year, studying level; C.) Riku and Tsubaki were first introduced when Tsubaki wanted to be Ayanokoji's partner for the Special Island Exam. I read some ARC's and some spoilers about the other books, and Suzune, Ibuki, and Ichika are absolutely destroying and dominating everybody...I also like, how on the 3rd Light novel, Ichika is shown to be holding Kushida by the hair, and Kushida is trembling. Ichika made a comment about that, and that's what made me like her even more. Looking forward to see Ibuki and Suzune work together when it's their time!
-Satou, Kei, 2nd years. They were already introduced, but I like the dynamic with them two. I find it funny and interesting that they fight so often.
-Shiba, Tsukishiro, teachers. Shiba is the Classroom D teacher, which is filled with nothing but oddballs and troublemakers (recounted and reread 1st page dw) Tsukishiro shall fully appear in Light Novel 3! I'm also looking forward for him becoming fully in the anime!
“Hunt or be hunted, huh? This is a game between children, but it seems like it could get interesting.”
Classroom of the Elite: Year 2 Vol. 1 By Syougo Kinugasa
The start of the volume was quite slow. It was essentially recapping what had happened and what was what. Which is kinda useless for me since I'm binge reading the whole series.
Another unique special test. This time, students have to partner up with first year students. The introduction of the OAA application added salt to the wound. The dynamics between was exciting to read.
The part where Kei and Ayanokoji are studying is quite funny. Especially when Kei finds red hair in Ayanokoji's room. What happened next was hilarious, to say the least. And talking about that incident, the best girl is here! **" She arrived like a whirlwind and departed in the same manner."**. The character of Ichika is so good! I just want more of her character. It's too good.
Nanase and Housen are two students from first year class D. And oh boy, how troublesome the new students are. Nanase straight up calling Ayanokoji evil was something that I didn't expect. That was a surprise. And housen is basically Ryueen but a gorilla, if i put it in Ryueen's term.
The fight between first year and second year class D was superb. Horikita and Sudo are getting their butt kicked, and yet Ayanokoji not doing anything was well, idk what to say. What followed next was just amazing. I did think that Ichika's behaviour was odd, and the fight confirmed it. It's still a badass one.
With that, finally, Ayanokoji is showing "true potential" to everyone. Scoring a perfect score in math that none have even come close to is certainly saying, "I'm the best you punks."
This is largely an introductory volume, with only 3 students from 3 of the 4 classes of year 1, each of the now Year 2 Classes are far ahead of previous years in development and so we get a focus on a list of other charaters, primarily people in the new Year 1 and I like...some of them for their contributions, there's one lunatic in the group and its not who you think and I hate them.
I'll be honest though, I pegged the "mastermind" White Room members the first time I read their names, not a shock for me later on. Though 1 character did shock me with their reveal later on. All in all this is a furthering of the Sports Festival story and a completion of a bet between Kiyotaka and Horikita on who would win first place in the next special exam. Girl got bodied easily as she should. But it was to his plan as he needed to take a more central appearnace now things are heating up for him.
Oh man, what an amazing book. It was everything I wanted and more. My guess for the infiltrated is the guy who partnered with Kushida. It's out of character for Kushida not to hate someone from her previous school, when that's the reason she hates Horikita. She didn't react badly at all, which leads me to believe that his past is just a cover. Horikita didn't recognize him, either. Kushida must have agreed to help him get our guy expelled. He's one of the few 1st year students who were introduced who didn't react to Ayanokoji. Also,
Anyway, that ending was perfect. Left me wanting more!
I think it's this story's peak so far. The author is still able to overcome my expectations which are really high after so many good volumes. We are getting new characters (the new first year students) the story is still somewhat unpredictable and the stakes... The stakes are getting even higher without feeling out of place - and that's extremely important. In my opinion this volume is better than the legendary y1 v7. I am happy with where the story is headed, since year 1 fromula was already getting boring. Such a great read!
Volume carino.
good start ! and well, is it just me or are the first years so very annoying? anyways, now that kiyotaka has kind of showed that he is capable, I'm excited to see how he is going to move from now on and yeah about horikita joining the student council, It's intriguing. Lastly, I'm glad for Ryuuen-kun moving up classB tbh but I'm also sad for ichinose-san. idk how to feel but this is definitely getting interesting. looking forward.

So finally year 2. I definitely enjoy the new students and tsukishiro moving to expel ayanokoji. Ichika and nanase are very interesting. They are a big mystery. And i wonder when will Yagami come into play if you know you know. Anyway Ayanokoji is a badass isnt he? The knife scene was so cool! And the math exam too! But its getting tough for ayanokoji and he will have to go all out soon. everyone is after him. I think thats a nice touch and it will get more interesting.

I enjoyed this one but it felt a bit slow and then the pace just picked up rapidly right at the end. I did like that it all came together at the end but the majority of the book didn't feel up to the same standard the rest of the series has been at - not quite as interesting.
It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger feel so I'm looking forward to getting to the next one though.
The main event of the book is the new test that they have to partner up with a bunch of frost years and ayanokoji was almost expelled in a fight with a frost year hosen due to the 20 million point bounty on his head

As a big fan of Classroom of the Elite, reading about Ayanokouji finally beginning to show his potential is exhilarating! I so look forward to reading the next volume, these first years are not to be looked down on!
It was good, it felt as complete as a book can being roughly 1/12 of a year in likely a 3-year series. It will be interesting to see if Ayanokoji will start to use more and more of his brain power and what limitations he may have. (Likely in the street-smart department)

What a start to the second year. Once it really started going, I flew through this one. I like that Ayanokoji is beginning to show his abilities, and I really want to learn more about the mysterious White Room.
The 1st volume of the second series of classroom of the elite was very exciting for me. Many new characters were introduced and we are also told that two students were sent from the same place that Ayanokoji came from the "White Room". I was excited to meet all the first years and enjoyed the fight scene with Hosen. It was also nerve wracking knowing the fact that Ayanokoji was supposed to create a partner with one of the first years knowing that they might be from the so called "White Room". Overall, I enjoyed this volume of the series and I felt it was a great introduction for what is to come in the second year for the Classroom of the Elite.
A metaphorical (maybe literall) assassin is sent after Ayanakouji and his classmates forcing him to step up his role and reveal more of his hidden abilities
