I was trained as an assassin for some of the oldest names in mythology, and Hel was my taskmaster. But when one of our own took her out, it was decreed our lives would be the sacrifice that would resurrect her.
Screw that.
Fortunately, I've made some influential and supernatural friends over the years, including Freyr, a god of sex and love, and Fenris, a wolf shifter with a heavenly heritage. They share my strong distaste for the other gods. They also own NEON, the hottest burlesque club in the Underground, and want me to be their new opening act.
Will that put me right in the public eye, and tell the gods hunting me exactly where I am?
Freyr, Fen, and I hope so.
As long as I get to my hunters before they get to me.
Author's Note: NEON is its own series in Allyson Lindt's Valkyrie universe. You can take your first step into this world here. However, this series does contain spoilers for the Valkyrie's Legacy series by Allyson Lindt.
Thanks for stopping by! I am not currently accepting any friend requests.
Allyson Lindt has been telling stories since before she could put the words on paper. She was lucky enough to marry her muse and soul mate. Their cats are their children, and when they’re not spending way too much time gaming, they’re building new worlds together. She loves a sexy happily-ever-after and helping deserving couples find their futures together.
This book kicks off a brand new series. And, while it’s the first book and can stand on its own, I definitely recommend reading the “Valkyrie’s Legacy” series first. There are some previous events and context that tie into everything in this book and make things, well, just more. That being said, these characters leapt off the page and into my imagination from the moment the book opened. Dahlia is a geek-girl bada$$. And Fen and Frey? They’ve got all the growly protective alpha energy I could wish for. As new secrets are revealed, their world starts tumbling down around them. But they’ve got each other and friends who will help. Or do they? I loved this so much and I’m already desperate to dive into the next book.
Whenever I open an Allyson Lindt book, I count on certain things - terrific characters that feel real even when they're fantastical, oh so sexy chemistry between those characters no matter how many are involved, world-building done organically throughout the story and done so well, I can picture it, and a story that keeps me turning the pages long past bedtime. Boy, oh boy, did she give me all of that and more in Subversion! I love Norse mythology, and the premise here is so much fun. Then there's the friends with benefits relationship with Fenrir and Freyr - and hello...It's Allyson Lindt, so it's hot, hot, hot. What it all comes down to is this first in the Neon series is full of everything I want in Urban Fantasy and then some. The story is engaging, the characters practically leap off the page, and the dialogue is witty. It's a great combination of action, steam, and intrigue.
Plenty of fantasy action with an intriguing building ménage
While it would help if you had read the previous series, Valkyrie’s Legacy, you can take the big baddie TOM at face value as the evil organization after Dahlia. Just knowing Dahlia is running for her life and trusts Freyr and Fenrir is easily discernible. But you can also feel that there is an underlying chemistry vibe between Dahlia and Fen especially, and Frey is caring and protective of Fen firstly and then Dahlia. Of course it’s not enough that she is hiding out and falling for a couple of supernatural hotties, Dahlia also has a heritage she didn’t know about. This imaginative tale is fast paced and swoon worthy. And there is more to come, can’t wait.
This is incredible! Action. Drama. Hot sexy scenes and plot twist. This may be book 1 but it does branch from the Valkyrie series. It can be read as a standalone so yay for this news bit. We learn about many things, people, situations and allegiances. However Neon book 1: Subversion is hot, sexy wolf Fenrir “Fen” and his co-owner and mate the god of sex and fertility Freyr “Frey” and their ongoing affair with former TOM computer hacker genius Dahlia. Plenty of refresher tidbits from previous stories are provided in this story which provides just enough details. Enjoyed it. What an ending and of course the epilogue segues into another intriguing read.
I haven't read Valkyrie’s Legacy before reading subversion. You can easily start this series and not be lost on what is going on. Dahlia is on the run from some gods. Fen and Frey will protect Dahlia at all costs. She ends up staying with them at their club Neon. While she is there she finds out some things about herself that changes everything she thinks she knows including things about herself. The relationship that Dahlia, Fren, and Frey have is soo hot. I love Allyson's books and I love paranormal. So this book had it all for me. I can't wait to see what else is in store for these 3 in the upcoming books. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author.
Great Plot, Great Characters, A Gotta Read Story!!
Wow! There is some excellent world building and character development in this story. It sucks you right in. Also has some sexy scenes, but doesn't overshadow the story. I want to learn more about the Valkyrie Universe from the other series now..
I would say this book is all porn no plot, but there’s not even enough porn to make that statement true. The author attempted to build a world without thinking anything out. So many conflicting statements and ideas floating around, like how is Dahlia a trained assassin and yet does not know how to wield a weapon?? Overall such a bad read.
This was an enjoyable story. I really enjoyed Fen, Frey and Dahlia together. Dahlia is in danger and Fen and Frey will do anything to keep her safe. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book
What a great start to this spin off series. The storyline is fast paced and exciting and the characters Fen, Frey and Dahlia are simply fantastic! There’s plenty of action in this fantasy/paranormal romance and I can’t wait to see the journey this author takes us on.
Definitely need to read the Valkyrie series first to get all the back story for this book. Once I did I enjoyed this book. Looking forward to reading the next in the Neon series.
The world was just too messy and confusing to me, I couldn’t make heads or tails of what was happening and when. Just no idea and while I tried to follow, it didn’t make sense to me.
Loved the concept but execution seemed to be lacking and was inconsistent. Some descriptions were wonderful but flashbacks and dreams were hard to identify as such.
This series is a spin-off of Allyson's Valkyrie Reborn series. Dahlia was raised by a group of gods at T.O.M., The Order of Mistletoe. These gods were out to stop a series of prophecies that they were sure would lead to their destruction on Ragnarök. They formed their own army with orphan children who were indoctrinated to follow orders. Dahlia escaped, but the gods are still after her. She comes to a burlesque club called NEON where she feels safe with Fenrir, the wolf shifter, and Freyer, a God of fertility. These two offer sanctuary to those being hunted by TOM.
Dahlia will learn something about herself that will change everything. She will need Fen and Frey to help her, but a more complicated bond will form between the three. She also has her best friend, Magnus, who is now a Valkyrie. Lots of action and plenty of heat in this one. Enjoy.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
I love the pairing so far of Dahlia, Freyr and Fenris. The potential there is incredible. And then Dahlia's story has me totally hooked. Can't wait to see as this series progresses how she handles everything. So far it feels as if we have only gotten to see some layers of her and there is so much more to reveal. Plus my favorite line from 2021 so far comes from this book. Won't quote it but just tell you it deals with Disney lawyers
Dahlia has been drawn to the Underground club NEON, and specifically to Fenrir, after experiencing a very distressing, recurring dream. But is this simply a dream?
I enjoyed Dahlia’s character – her general fearlessness, and feisty nature. I loved her friends-with-benefits, steamy relationship with Freyr and Fen and how protective they were of her. I enjoyed the journey as she discovered her new capabilities after learning of her true heritage.
It’s a well written tale with compelling characters – including some powerful Norse gods, and supernatural shifters. There’s plenty of action & adventure, some duplicity, conflict, violence, drama, angst, some surprises and several steamy, explicit encounters featuring some MM and MFM scenes. This story takes place roughly one year after the events in Valkyrie Crowned, the final book in the author’s Valkyrie Legacy series. And while this tale stands on its own quite well, it does contain some spoilers for that series. I’m looking forward to Corruption, for the continuation of this entertaining tale.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from the author, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fantastic Mythological Gods with Some Serious Heat
This story meshes nerd-cool with Norse gods to create a smoking-hot triad with powers beyond compare. Dahlia thinks she’s human (spoiler alert: she’s not), who hooks up with Fenrir and Feyr at their burlesque club. I liked how they had a preexisting relationship which kickstarted everything, so it made sense to have some hot hot heat right off the bat. Thinks are getting intense - some of the gods want Dahlia dead - and I love how things are building up for the next book in the series (Corruption).
