It's the calm before the storm. Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan is riding hell-for-leather towards Kadambur to honour Ilaiya Rani Nandhini's kind invitation-while Vandhiyathevan is hurrying in the same direction, hell-bent on thwarting their meeting. Mandhakini Devi is abducted by ruffianly unknowns towards Thanjavur-while Poonguzhali, her niece, is hastening thither, to rescue her aunt. Peril threatens Sundara Chozhar, confined to his sickbed and at the mercy of Pandiya assassins-while Ilaiya Piratti strains every nerve to protect her father. Will all three succeed in their quests? Will Arulmozhi Varmar recover from his ague? Will Aniruddhar's schemes and stratagems save the royal family? Will Azhwarkkadiyaan's efforts bear fruit? And lastly ... will Chozha Nadu be free of the tangled web of conspiracies?
I didn't enjoy it as much as the rest. The Mandhakini revelation was supposed to be the only 'surprise' but to be fair it was quite obvious because of it being multiple times earlier. Somehow the book felt a little flat. I was expecting more from Aditha Karikalan's meeting with Nandhini but it was meh. The usual fun portions of Vandhiyathevan/Azhwarkadiyan were alos not that fun. Poongoozhali's portion which I expected to be more thrilling after the last book was disappointing. The only thing fun was Periya Pazhuvettayar getting played like a puppet on strings by Nandhini.
This was…alright. There wasn’t anything exciting that happened in this book, no big surprises were revealed. You could pretty much describe the happenings of the ENTIRE book in just 1-2 sentences. It felt quite pointless to me.
And the worst of all, for a series named after a character you’d expect him to be the main focus. But so far he has come into the picture only the second of half of the 2nd book and was unconscious or missing ever since then. Great going.
