The Draak Legacy #1

Saving Silver

Rate this book
From best-selling author Xavier Neal comes a brand-new, laugh-out-loud, paranormal romance you don't want to miss...

I swear, one minute I'm dozing off during the night shift - don't judge me - and the next I'm being told I'm Fate Mated to an ancient dragon.

An ancient dragon I couldn't help but save when he woke me up out of the aforementioned slumber - again, don't judge me.

Now this same ancient dragon - that I'm apparently destined to be with - is doing everything he can to win me over, because it's up to me whether or not he'll live the rest of his life in absolute agony or absolute bliss.

Oh, and let's not forget the fact we're being chased by elves, working with a grumpy Griffin, and have to rescue some poor kidnapped dragon before an evil corporation kills it.

Ugh.

Any chance this is all some crazy dream that I can't wake up from?

No?

Well, can't blame this human for asking.

I found Saving Silver to be sweet, sexy and hilarious! From the moment Z and Adae met, I was caught up in the cuteness and hotness of their connection.

I enjoyed the concepts the author introduced — Sleepers and Awakers. Sleepers (humans) were blind to the complete world around them. Z, his brothers, and all other creatures that were believed to be mythical were all around us... we just couldn't see them. I loved Dae's reactions to everything she was introduced to, from her disbelief and confusion, to her curiousity and loyalty and love. What great characters!

Dae doesn't just see my beast side or my Awaker one.
She sees all of me.
Approves of all of me.
Loves all of me.
Just like a Fated Mate should.

There's a huge subplot that I'm sure will feature in some way in the book(s) to come and I can't wait to learn more. There were so many amazing side characters that I have to know! Like Zilveren's brothers, who seem to view finding a mate to be a death sentence. There's also the favorite cousins, especially Little B, who seems to have found his mate already. Even their faithful Gene deserves some shine.

This story has everything to make it an easy read...
🐉 humor
🐉 hot chemistry
🐉 sweet and no angst romance
🐉 the wonders of the supernatural, with suspense and bits of action
🐉 fantastic characters

As introductions go, this story has made a fan out of me and I will be staying tuned to see where this series will go.

Paranormal Romance isn’t my usual genre, but Xavier Neal just delivered a romantic and funny side to this story. Definitely changed me over.

One minute Dr. Adae Russo is catching a few Zzzzs at the vet clinic and the next she’s experiencing magic, mystery, and mayhem. All in the form of a dragon. Adae has every right to be dazed, buzzed, and completely overwhelmed.  But there’s just something about this dragon that soothes her. Even after learning she’s his fated mate.  Say what? Yep, she’s his ONE. And there’s just something so charming about his ways. This has to be a dream, right.

Zilveren just wasn’t expecting this woman to be his mate. But his dragon, Silver, has no doubts.  But between Z and Silver, they are a mess to prove their worth.

Add in a genie, quirky brothers and a few other magical and evil supporting cast members and you have a very funny and enjoyable read.  This wonderland of characters are enduring and heartwarming.

I'm in awe that this is Xavier's first paranormal romance. Dragon shifters are one of my FAVES and she nailed it. Sexy, suspenseful and I couldn't put it down. Certainly didn't want it to end. Can't freaking wait for the next in the series.

I am so impressed by Xavier Neal. Saving Silver is her first PNR and an awesome addition to her ever extensive list of written stories. She is boss and a beast and her writing is always fun and intelligent.

Saving Silver was just what I thought it would be. A funny, semi quirky romance story. Reading the blurb prepared me for dragon shifter and human and the one-liners I have come to love with Xaviers writing. The blurb did not adequately prepare me for the steam, which was amazing, or the level of involvement I would feel about these characters.

Adae and Z meet in a less than ideal way, however the attraction and interest is there early on. This is an insta-love story but done in a different way and I didnt feel like it was rushed or poorly planned. PNR books tend to have the theme of "fated mate equals insta love" but this slowed that process a little to really show dedication and love and building the relationship. Along the way there was humor among the cast of characters that added to the overall "awesomeness".

I highly recommend any of Xaviers books, if one is not your thing, she has so many other options to try, but this book, Saving Silver is a must just because of the sheer astonishing way she paints a picture and tells the story!

This book is this author's first dip into the PNR world and I really enjoyed it. The writing is very well done and the world building excellent. One of my favorite things about this author's books is that they so often contain snark, quirky humor and some nerdiness. That holds true here and the banter and internal and external commentary is smart and sharp. I really liked Zilveren and Adae. They were both quite intriguing and together I felt they made a steamy, cute and sweet couple that delivers the feels. This book cleverly lays out the groundwork for this series and introduces several very enticing characters that I long to learn more about and hopefully enjoy their own stories in future books in this series. A lush blend of emotion, drama, humor, danger, heat, suspense, mystery, action and heart make this a read that captivates you quickly and has you blowing off pesky things like sleep so that you can continue reading it. I am electing to post a candid review of my own accord.

Mother of Dragons!!! I haven’t read a PNR in a long time, and XAVIER has brought that fire back to me!! Saving Silver was everything I needed and then some. Z and Adea are simply amazing, and having Adea just tossed into this crazy underworld was phenomenal. Silver….. oh my I freaking loved him!! His attitude reminds me of Toothless, but with a more X rated version. Lol

I honestly finished this book in one sitting cause I just got swept away in their world. I can’t wait to dive in deeper!!

Saving Silver is one of those books that once you pick it up, it will be impossible to put it back down.
I loved the mix of the paranormal fated mate trope with romantic comedy. There were parts of this book that had me laughing out loud as wit and clever romcom madness made the whole adventure feel like a world I wish I could get lost in.
And the world building is fantastic. If feels like if I could just look beyond the fog in our own world then I just might find the world Xavier Neil has created. All of the side characters felt rich and vibrant, the little quarks in the world felt almost real.
I wasn’t kidding about not being able to put this book down. I received an advanced reader copy that I told myself I would just read a chapter a night because my workload was so intense. Lets just say things didn’t go according to plan when I devoured this book that night.
Now I am less than patiently waiting for book two so that I can devour that one. Only this time I will be better prepared to cancel all plans so that I can comfortably loose myself in this world.

description

Zilveren Draak is a shapeshifting ancient dragon who is trying to escape a group of beings, set on capturing him no matter what. He finds his shelter at Dr. Adae Russo’s veterinarian clinic, and even asks her for her help in removing something, a bullet of some kind, lodged in his shoulder.
After helping him as best as she could, he leaves abruptly, in order to finally get rid of the beings he was being chased by.
Unfortunately for the both of them, Adae followed after him, and saw things she never should’ve seen in the first place.
If there’s one thing neither had expected, it was for her, a mere Sleeper, a human, to be his fated mate.

I wouldn’t say that I’m a total newb at paranormal romance, nor that shifter romance is something I’ve never read before. I grew up with wattpad, for crying out loud. You wouldn’t believe how many werewolf shifter romance I’ve read, specifically Seth Clearwater from Twilight. But I will say that this was my first ever dragon shifter romance in, well, ever. I’m so used to shifters still being somewhat ‘normal’ sized, if you know what I mean. So to read about a H who can shift into a being that big, was interesting.

Xavier Neal’s writing was something I took notice of immediately. And not in a bad way, not at all. The writing in this book was amazing. It was fun, easy to follow, and hilarious. I mean, I couldn’t stop giggling and laughing the entire time. It really is a ‘laugh-out-loud’ PNR, and I had lots of fun reading this book.

The storyline was interesting, definitely not something I’ve read before. It was a cute yet steamy story about fated mates, so instant attraction was obviously part of it. And the characters were quite lovable as well. And I’m not just talking about the main ones, but the secondary ones as well. I don’t know what it is about goofy secondary characters, but Auran really wiggled his way into my heart. The guy eats raw vegetables, people. All kinds of raw veggies. Just – snacks on them. Every time he’s in a scene, he’s chewing on something crunchy. For goodness’ sake, the man ate raw onions, too. But my love for that weirdo is beside the point. What I’m trying to say, is that the characters in Saving Silver were all so very lovable.

Dae was an absolute sweetheart, she babbled a lot, especially about things that excite her, things she's passionate about. Such a smart cookie, a hard-worker, determined, and ambitious. She’d already finished med school to become a veterinarian, but when she’d been given the opportunity to see what else and which other new beings this world had, she’d taken that opportunity to study them all. Dae picked up books and studied anything and everything related to these new beings she’s never seen before. If that doesn’t prove how smart and ambitious she is, I don’t know what else would.

Z was the youngest of his brothers. Which means he wasn’t the cliché strict or grumpy one, nor was he a silly goof just messing about like his brother Auran (I love you, my god I love you, you silly man). But he was – well, he was a healthy mix of all things good. Z was still somewhat of a dragonhole. But only when it came to anyone but his Dae. It was obvious how much he cared about her, fated mate aside. Z, as a character, was actually a funny guy, but unironically so. Like I said, he was an dragonhole to the outside world, but when it came to Dae, he was such a clumsy and awkward mate. He worried about her constantly, and only wanted to please her, say – every minute of every day? And that’s not to say that he’s a fumbling mess behind closed doors. Oh no, no, no. Master Draak is anything but a newb at this. Your panties either spontaneously combust when he’s near, or you just so accidentally forgot to put them on. Sorry about that visual, but also, not sorry.

One other Z related point that I’d like to mention (because I loved it, my lord, did I love it), was Z’s internal monologue. Well, Z and Silver, to be very specific. Their ‘conversations’ were hilarious, and I couldn’t get enough of them. Silver, for example, only answers with one single word. It oddly reminds me of the ‘caveman talk’. Just simple worded answers, no structure. You know what I mean with ‘caveman talk’ don’t you? I hope I’m not alone in this, because it’s something I enjoy in books- grumpy men speaking in singular words/really short sentences, and calling the h ‘woman’ or referring to them as ‘my woman’. Either way, in this case, I thought the ‘caveman talk’ was super endearing.

I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

RTC
Pretty good imo, I couldn't stop giggling! Z is such a sweet mate, I mean the man cocooned her in a nest of pillows when she was out cold, and asked her if she needed MORE when she woke up? Sir, I think your nesting capabilities are better than you might think they are, she's already as comfortable as comfortable can get! And he's so awkward and blushes! But he's also na$ty so 😛🥵😂

Holy shirtballs, where so i start?

Shifter romance isn't my go to, so I wasn't 100% sure what to expect going in to this book. That being said, it was completely fantastic.

I absolutely loved the world that the author created around The Fog, Sleepers, and Awakers. It really makes you wonder what else could be going on around you without you ever knowing.

The characters were well developed, the plot moved along at a great pace, and the world building was wonderful. There was such a great mix of humor, drama, action, and romance.

There's a lot of alliteration throughout the story, especially during sexy times. It got a little distracting at times, but not so bad that it took away from the rest of the story.

I loved the Draak family, and I can't wait to read more about these characters and the overlapping plot points.

Would definitely recommend that anyone who likes Shifters, Fated Mates, PNR, or mystery romances to read this.

I absolutely loved this book!!!!
Fated Mates ✔
Sexy Dragon Shifter ✔✔
Z is the sweetest character I've ever read he is literally perfect and Adae is the perfect fit for him. There was just enough tension that it doesn't feel or read like fluff and you just know that you're reading the beginning of an epic PNR series. I want all the characters now ALL of them. Xavier Neal has really brought her A game with this and I am jumping up and down right now. I am so glad I got to read this book. I will own it 100 percent

PNR is my first love in the romance world and this new adventure for Author Xavier Neal does not disappoint! I truly love the rom-com feel of this PNR. The banter between Dae (human FMC) and Z (Dragon shifter MMC) is perfect. The world being built is intriguing. The side characters are just as interesting and makes me excited to see where this series goes next. It is a series that I’m truly looking forward to exploring further.

I have not read a book yet written by Mrs. Xavier Neal that I have not enjoyed. Saving Silver was her first jaunt into PNR romance and she does not disappoint! Adae and Z are refreshing. Although their love was instant it didn't feel rushed. I like that she includes just enough characterization of Adae and Z to make their connection feel complete and plausible. The story was quick, witty and attention grabbing. I am anxiously awaiting the second book in this series.

Dragons, mermaids, and genies, oh my!!

Dae was awakened to a magical world when a dragon shifter arrived in her veterinarian office one evening. The call to become his mate was strong between the two as Silver/Zilveren was simultaneously battling forces that were capturing ancient dragons throughout the city.

This is Xavier's first jump into the paranormal world and I give her a solid 4.5 stars for tackling a new genre. The plot contained a lot of action and suspense and the chemistry still flowed between the two characters even when you threw in all of the paranormal oddities into the mix. Well done for this first jump into the fantastical realm.

I really enjoyed the different species of magical creatures that came up vs. the typical paranormal creatures that always seemed to be introduced in every other fantasy book I come across . There were also new spins on old species which I rather enjoyed as well. Once again, this showed Xavier's creativity for tackling this new genre.

This is the first book in a new dragon series and there were several creatures introduced, like Z's brothers. As the series progresses, the brothers and their mate matches will be intriguing to learn more about.

What a fun story!!
These characters had me cracking up. I just loved it.
A human and a dragon shifter. A human veterinarian who knows nothing of a supernatural realm, she thinks they are make believe and only in fairytales.
Boy she was in for shock after shock when he shows up shot at her vet clinic. And quickly realized they are fated. Yep that's when the laughs start.
But it's not just a cute love story. Our couple is HOT! And they get tangled in the mystery of a supernatural being kidnapping scheme.
I believe this is Xavier Neal's first paranormal and for one hope there are more. I really liked this trio of dragon shifting brothers and their ever serving Genie.

Zilverman aka Z is an ancient dragon shifter trying to outrun the elves trying to capture him while he was trying to save another young dragon, when he runs right into the vet that his fated mate works at. After Dae aka Little Tails removes the magically infused bullets that keep him from shifting, he kicks ass, saves his mate and takes her with him. And here we get introduced to all kinds of magical and mythical beings. From his dragon brothers, to his genie butler Gene. So, Z doesn’t really know how to deal with humans aka sleepers, not really sure he knows much about women either. Basically, he lacks a little filter and charm, but he learns, and I loved reading it.

Safe read. With an arrogant dragon, that can grovel with the best of them, and his sweet veterinarian fated mate. Fated mates with a HFN. Great storyline that opens up more about their world, and the dangers they uncover in it. Lots of lmao moments in this book, especially between him and his inner dragon Silver, and his brothers were hilarious too. I can’t wait to read more from this series. This is my first book by Xavier Neal, and it definitely won’t be the last, so good. Next book please.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Note 2: This is a series. Saving Silver is the first book. Getting Gold is the second and final book for now. Please read in order.

Trigger Warnings: Attempted murder, kidnaping, violence, mention of dead parents.

This was such a fun and light- to some degree- paranormal romance. I automatically fell in love with Xavier's writing - so damn straightforward and downright hilarious, I wanted more already.

The story is simple. Silver falls for a sleeper - human - and she for a dragon - aka Silver. Things speed up because this is a short novella - but some car chase scenes happen, steamy shit also happens, banter happens - because I loved all the side C's too and how supportive, kind and caring they were- and some unexpected plot twists also follow.

All which I was so down for - the minute I read it - that I cannot wait for the next book.

Getting Gold releases February 24th s0 here's hoping I get to read it before release.

Until the next read,

-TMR

Saving Silver is an amazing paranormal romance that will just keep you glued to the pages. I love that this is such a different paranormal romance from others I've read in the past. This is a family of the dragon shifters that you are not going to want to miss out on. Zilveren and Adae are amazing. Z is a dragon shifter and has met his fated match when it comes to Dae. You are just going to love Dae and how she takes everything in as she enters a whole new side of the world she did not even realize existed. I love the chemistry and the banter between Z and Dae. While reading this you would never know that this is Xavier Neal's first paranormal romance. It is such an amazing read that I could not get enough of. I cannot wait for more of the Draak Legacy to come. I'm already addicted to this brand new series and it is only book one. I need more dragon shifters in my life. Go one click this one now.

No surprise that within 2 pages I'm spitting out my (thankfully) water. Then, after almost choking on my lunch, I decided no more food or drink until I was done reading.

This book has everything I love about Xavier Neal with the pacing, the witty word play, and easy reading story, plus, DRAGONS!

Now I'm just waiting for my very own dragon mate to find me...

***5 Stars***

This was such a fun read!.

My cheeks hurt from grinning the entire time. There is a little bit of suspense, but the angst was low, the funny, sweet and smexy was high, the world building (and explaining of said world) was done very well and it is filled with a bunch of very interesting characters I want more of.

So all in all. A great read.

Now for Z/Silver and Dea. I kind of loved and adored them. Dea is a little quirky, a little geeky but a really good person who isn’t afraid to stand up for herself when necessary. Z is a good...being...dragon...person. Charming, protective and simply a good man. Add in Silver and well, he’s definitely a catch.

Their journey to their HEA was a lot of fun. Things happen quickly ~ I mean the whole Fated Mates thing and the fact that Dae’s profession/interests help with the shock of being in a world where creatures you thought were make believe aren’t~ but I enjoyed watching them get to know each other. Their bantering is a lot of fun, their chemistry is hot and together they just made sense to me. As I said there isn’t much angst going on, but there are a few bumps and I liked how everything worked out for them in the end.

This is my first read by the author, and to be absolutely honest, had I not been in something of a reading slump and trying to revamp how I do the blogging things, I may have passed this one up because while I read PNR ~ I’m a picky bitch in my choices, but I’m really happy I didn’t (also, to be absolutely honest again it was the whole “grumpy Griffin” thing in the blurb that was the deciding factor).

The writing was engaging. The world building was done well and explained in such a way that I understood just how intricate the world could be, but didn’t feel overwhelmed. And the secondary characters were all unique and having me wanting to spend a lot more time with them. I definitely want more of the Griffin, but Ptur and A.D. were awesome and I’m really looking forward to seeing who their Fated Mates will be.

So, if you’re looking for a PNR that’s more on the fun side of the coin, then this is a must click for you!

4.5 Dragon-tastic Stars!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

Being a multi genre reader, I couldn’t wait to delve into Xavier Neal’s first paranormal romance book. This author is a huge favourite of mine, I can easily get lost in one of her many great books and forget the world around me for a few hours, Saving Silver was no different!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this Dragon Shifter story, and as I blindly went into this romance story I was soon swept up into this amazing world where Dragons, Elves and many other fabulous creatures exist. I was drawn into this mind opening world with some really awesome characters that you can’t help but love.

For me this story isn’t one where the two leading characters have a push and pull relationship, this is about two people who were destined for each other before knowing each other existed. They don’t fight their destiny, they embrace it, openly. I loved that Saving Silver was more than just a paranormal romance story, there was a much darker problem going on and together they had to fight for what could possibly be, their survival.

This story left me needing more! I wished so much that I could have delved straight into the next book, but I know the wait is going to be worth it!

If you love romance and paranormal stories, you need to give Saving Silver a try, you will not be disappointed, but you will be left wanting so much more! Who doesn’t love that agonising, yet secretly desirable wait for the next great book, I know I do!

First of all I am a big fan of paranormal romance is no matter the shifter. And let me just say Xay did not disappoint with this one. Saving silver is witty it is funny it is different and I like to spend that was put on the terms that we use in the real world and the phrases that we use in the real world it was very unique and I liked it. I loved how in all of her stories there is an obsession with some form of food lol. And I find myself looking forward to what that food will be anytime I read one of her books. The additional characters outside of the main male and female I am just hoping that they will also get their own story because they were amazing and I would really love to see their reactions when they come across their fated mates. Loved Adae and Z.

This was the cutest, funniest dragon story I've read in a long time. Although I enjoyed Zilveren and Adae chemistry and banter. The banter between Zilveren and his dragon Silver was HILARIOUS!!! Silver was adamant about who their Fated Mate was and he was not gonna stop until Zilveren made a move and claimed their Mate. I can't wait to see A D and Pytus (Zilveren's brothers) find their Fated Mates. A.D. story I feel is gonna be hilarious. Between him eating raw vegetables and not wanting a Fated Mate his fall is going to be EPIC.

Cute story. Adae took everything in stride after her initial shock wore off and embraced her new way of life with Zilveren. I can't wait to read the next installment.

This PNR will have you laughing and sitting at the edge of your seat ready for more. I loved all of the characters and the witty banter between everyone. I loved exploring this world and how Xavier Neal described some of the particulars that occur. Couldn’t put it down! You are thrown in from the very beginning into this new world and I cant wait to explore more and hopefully see some of the characters I feel in love with now again!!

Adae meets Zilveren when he shows up at her vet practice begging her to treat his gunshot wounds. From there her life is never the same. Adae finds she is the fated mate to a dragon! Though paranormal is not my thing necessarily I read this because I love this author and she did not disappoint! The fact is this book is funny, sweet and romantic. I enjoyed all the characters and it made me laugh, a lot. There is still a lovely romance between Adae and Zilveren as well! I really enjoyed!

Great start to the series!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐(4.5)
Trope: fated mates
Angst: 😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Loved this book! It was well written and had an interesting storyline and great world building. Tons of laugh out loud moments ❤. I loved that the heroine was a vet, lol. The characters are wonderful and I can't wait to see where she goes next with them as well as the overarching story arc. My only criticism is that I found the formatting distracting as it impeded the flow of the book in my head.

Saving Silver is the first book in the Draak Legacy series by Xavier Neal and can be read as a standalone. The story is told in first person, from dual perspective.

Dragon shifters meet laugh out loud fun filled ride ahead😍😍😍

This book had me laughing out loud right from chapter 1. I couldn't help smiling and couldn't stop myself from snickering at not only the inner mind thoughts of Adae but later on the banter between Adae and Zilveren.

Zilveren is a shape shifting dragon who while trying to save another young dragon gets injured in the process. With it not being safe going to a doctor, also there not being enough time to reach one right then and the vet's clinic in the front, Zilveren stumbles in for help only ending up not only being saved by the beautiful doctor but ending up finding his fated mate.

Zilveren can't believe when he hears his dragon, silver, saying inside Mate. How could he find his fated mate in such trying circumstances. But when fate calls and matches you with your mate, you are only to accept it and be happy about it.

Adae is confused. One second she is helping a man even when her job might be at risk for doing it at a vet clinic where only animals are allowed to be treated and the next second she sees the same man transform into a creature which she can't believe even exists.

So begins their journey. I was hooked completely right from the start and had a complete blast with Zilveren and Adae.

There is so much happening, having to explain that they need to be 'bonded' and saving their own from a suspicious attacks that are going on, on their kind. Zilveren sure has a lot on his plate.

I absolutely adored the fact the Zilveren would do anything for Adae. Even when he unknowningly upsets or hurts her feelings, he's restless until he makes her happy again. Their bond is literally one that was fated by the great ones.

One possessive but sweet dragon and his unusual dragon family, one sweet but sassy heroine, a delightful genie with suspense, laughter and lots of fun delight. Freaking blast was what was this one.

Truly if you wanna get lost in pages and come out having an amazing time, feeling supremely happy and great with a permanent smile pasted on your lips, then Read Read this one. I freaking loved loved this one. 💋💋❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Solid 3.5 stars. I like alot of this author's work so I was excited to read this and it the blurb sounded interesting.

When Zilveren comes into Adae's vet clinic looking for help, Dae's life changes forever.

I liked both main characters alot. Even though Dae's acceptance of their relationship was pretty fast, that is par the course when it comes to mates in paranormal books so I wasn't mad at it. Z's need to make sure Dae is comfortable is so adorable and slightly surprising. In our first introduction to him I thought he would be more of an asshole that grows on you. Dae's corny jokes, easy acceptance and this for knowledge was enjoyable as well.

Where I couldn't rate this book higher is the story plot. When the book ended I felt like we should've been in the middle of the story instead of the end. I didn't feel like we spent enough time with these two. Seeing their relationship progress was nice but I wanted more, and I definitely wanted more time of them working on figuring out what's going on with this mystery enemy out there. This wouldn't be much of a problem if there were sequels coming out dedicated to them, but it looks like each book will focus on a different brother. While I'm sure Dae and Z will show up just as the brothers were in their book, I don't feel like I got their complete story or at least enough to be ready to move on to a new couple.

Overall, it was a pretty quick read and was enjoyable.
