Naga Brides #4

Death Adder

Rate this book
Females have returned to Earth, brought here by technology I do not trust. They’ve been claimed and nested and kept far from me.

The broken one. The dark one.

I will always be alone.

When a ship lands in my territory and a black-suited human female appears, I am in awe. I am in NEED.

Only, she is surrounded by men.

So, I will sneak up on her.

I will stalk her, learn everything about her, and wait for the right moment.

And when the time comes, I’ll set my trap.

She will be caught.

Then she will be claimed.

By no one else but ME.

--
Death Adder is the fourth book in a series of Bride Hunting Aliens. With the charm of a snake, and the wiles of a devil, these males will do anything, and I mean anything, for their females.

This is Zhallaix’s story.

Romance: 💙🤎🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😠😘🤓😍
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Celeste - she is the leader of a mission to a post apocalyptic Earth to find out what happened on a lost mission that never made it off of Earth. They were on Earth to find the enemy technology in order to find a way to fight the Kets who have been waging war for years.

The Hero: Zhallaix - he is a Naga of the Death Adder variety and he is feared by many of the other species of Naga. He is fierce and scarred and wears a necklace of bones. He knows that some of the other Naga on Earth have mated with human females and he wants one of his own. When he first sees Celeste, he wants her.

The Story: Celeste is aware that the mission led by Peter might have failed partly due to the fact that Peter had exchanged the women on his mission to the Naga for technology. One of those he traded was his pilot and when the rest of the crew tried to leave the planet, the ship crashed, probably due to the lack of an experienced pilot. She sees a Naga soon after landing but tries to stay clear.

When Zalliax attempts to speak to Celeste and her crew, they are wary and her crew ends up firing on him without orders to do so. He fights back and tries to take Celeste hostage. She fights back, stabbing him in the chest and they think he has died.

I like the back story about Zhalliax, we saw him in previous books as hard and feral, but he sees himself as honorable. He has spent his life tracking down and killing others of his kind who were not honorable. This entire series has been very good, much better than I thought it would be. The stories are interesting and original.

“Zhalliax, do you know what love is?”
“It’s a feeling of great adoration.”

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Elizabeth Hart and John Masterson. Elizabeth has a clear and loud voice, she is not one of my favorite narrators, but she is pretty good. John has a great voice for this type of book, I like his cadence and tempo.

out of all the books, I need this one like I need air to breath.

THIS BETTER BE DOWNRIGHT NASTY.

Okay. SO it wasn’t downright nasty nasty. But some of the stuff in this was kind of gross. And I’m okay with that.

I do also like the plot of this out of all the books and 10/10 for the realistic relationship with our mc’s.

I kind of wish there was another one coming out. But who knows.

So good to be back with my Naga babies!! I was very surprised and intruiged by Zhallaix's history and story.

The first 50% of this was very story/lore/what's going on in the world and I can tell that we are being led further into the overall story here. Which is so cool.

I loved Celeste and she is a badass lady. Loved how her and her Naga both resisted the "sickness" so hard. It made it all the sweeter.

**3.9/5 stars**

The story continues after the events of all previous books; this time, we follow Celeste, the Captain of a special operative team sent by the Central Command to rescue the people from the facility that exploded. They land at night and start their mission but Celeste has a niggling feeling that they are being watched and followed. This is how she meets a curious and broody Naga, Zhallaix who can't help but want to stay close to her. Needing his help to navigate the trapped land, she decides to trust him, but proximity with an attracted Naga can only trigger the effects of Genosis-8, a sort of virus that puts human females in heat for the Naga male...

“You make me warm where once I was cold, frustrated when once I was numb…”-Zhallaix

Because of some of the negative reviews, I was a bit wary of this book. I thought maybe I wouldn't like it but I actually did. It wasn't my favorite but it was definitely enjoyable. We get to know so much more about the origin of the Nagas and why Zhallaix is so fearful of machines and technology. It felt to me like this book had a bit more significant action throughout than the previous ones.

When it comes to the heroine, Celeste, I thought she would be one of those 'badass wannabe' characters that end up being cringe but she was very pleasant. She was a good leader, always thought about her team, valued each of her men, was willing to risk her life to make sure they made it back him, was brave and kind. I don't think I disliked anything about her. Sure, she put herself in danger for the sake of others but it never felt like a good ol' TSTL. Her heart was in the right place and she was sensible, even if she was raised since a young age to just do what was commanded.

“Do you know what love is?”
He’s quiet for a moment, and I hold my breath, waiting for his answer.
“It is a feeling… of great adoration,” he says, his voice low.
My lips twitch into a sad smile. “Great adoration… that’s exactly it.”
“It is how I feel when I look at you.”

As for Zhallaix, he was a broody and protective male. Sometimes jealous and  possessive. From his past appearance, I never thought he would be so sweet and caring towards Celeste. He was endearing. For so many years, he had stayed alone, and was fine this way, until he layed eyes on her. From then on, he started feeling strange, developing a strong attraction for Celeste, something he'd never experienced for any female before. For a big part of the story, he tried to quench his want for her, bottling everything up and trying to help her save her team. He carried a certain guilt and burden from his past, which Celeste understood. As they got closer and learned more about each other, she helped him not feel so guilty and constantly reminded him that he wasn't bad. I thought that was sweet.

He doesn’t kiss me; he doesn’t try to take off my clothes. He keeps humming words of needs, nests, and wants in my ears. Eventually, he stops moving and just holds me against him, his face buried into the crook of my neck, trembling. I wait for him to slip his tongue across my exposed skin there, but he never does. I wait for more, more than this embrace from him but nothing else happens.-Celeste

If there wasn't many steamy scenes, I still think they had a nice chemistry. It also felt more organic in the way where they at first both didn't want to give in to their attraction, knowing something was strange. They developed their feelings and their need for proximity felt more genuine than the other couples. The other males wanted to own their respective human female while Zhallaix wanted to protect and keep Celeste safe.

Because I want him, and he wants me too, and it’s clear neither of us is happy about it. -Celeste

Overall, I thought it was a really nice continuation to the story and I definitely feel more invested.

The introduction of Laura, the heroine in the next book, actually has me hyped up. The first impression I have of her is how kind and sweet she seems. She's also much older and mature than the previous main female characters, and I think I'm really going to like her. It's also very rare to see sci-fi eroticas with a main girl who's in her forties. Really looking forward to it.

The blurb is misleading. Story heavy with a mild amount of steam in my opinion. I didn’t like the separation at the end. Didn’t really care for either character but looking forward to what’s next in this world.

4/5 ⭐️s

Celeste is the badass heroine I’ve been waiting for in this series!

I really enjoyed how the relationship between Zhallaix and Celeste evolved in this book. The mutual respect between these two incredibly strong characters really took their romance to the next level for me. Spicy, yes. But their adoration for each other was so so very good too.

And, as always, I continue to be amazed at how Naomi is laying out tidbits of information about this world for us, specifically the history of the Death Adders here. I’ve been intrigued by Zhallaix since he was ready to thrown down to defend Gemma’s honor in book one, so learning more about his family was really interesting.

I’m also loving how this plot continues to evolve. There’s a lot of similarities between this series and IPB, but what I think Naomi does better is recognizing the necessity of expanding the worldbuilding to keep the story fresh. We’re slowly discovering this future human society as the story continues moving off Earth, and I think she’s really struck that balance of the good vs evil of humanity. Add to it the war with the Ketts and the constant foreshadowing of the Lurkers returning, and you’ve got a wonderfully fleshed out series that doesn’t feel in danger of going stale any time soon.

I loved Zhallaix and Celeste!

This story was a page turner of action and romance with information about the Nagas! The half human and snake species on Earth. Naomi wrote an interesting storyline. I learned a lot about them and the human woman they have for their mates.
A great read with steamy love scenes and happily ever after.

"If he kills me, he better wear my bones too."

I don't know why, but I've been looking forward to Zhallaix’s story since I first stumbled across this super weird series. Maybe because I have a weakness for the misunderstood bad boy....bad snake? You know what I mean.

Unfortunately, this was just super boring and I didn't feel any of the chemistry that kept the last few entries fun.

Sooo disappointed 😩

Let me start by saying Naga Brides is by far my favorite paranormal romance series. I INHALED the last book in a day! Now here we are nearly a year later and I’m depressed! This book was so damn tame compared to the others. Like this is the DEATH ADDER’s story! I just knew I would get the battle hardened bad ass that tormented Vruksha in the first book with blurred morality lines, some brutal carnage of his enemies, and amazing action.. NOPE! *SPOILERS* He’s so tame and stoic and dare I say… boring. We find ourselves wandering in the woods (which is oddly devoid of wildlife and other Nagas) instead of progressing the story. The heroine was awesome but I feel like the attraction came across one sided and forced by her…

Spice was a 2/5 (Viper and King Cobra 10/5).. the intimacy was hardly there (not until 80% of the book is over) no overwhelming 🍆🍆 moments like in the last novels, we came for the spillage!!! Also why use the word “p***k” of all words for 🍆 that is literally the least sexy word ever.. but moving on, spicy moments were sprinkled in at moments that were awkward and I just feel like Celeste and Zhallaix just weren’t into each other. It gave off, “this is better than being alone” vibes… I mean he tried to get busy with Collins in a way that should have made Celeste jealous 🤭

I feel that there was an attempt at a morally complex character but this fell so flat with the lack of dialogue between the MC’s to establish it, a lot of “don’t ask me about it” moments… too much of them living in their heads. I literally had to stop reading this book and re-read Viper to understand why this book came out this way. I feel the Naomi may have gotten burnt out or bored in this story. But I’m sure the pressure to deliver was intense, to her credit.

Also what the hell happened to the man holding the cube? Did they just forget about him? Did he die? Who was he??? We learned nothing new or interesting about the storyline in this book, I felt like I waited a year for a filler arc… Can we have the Ketts cause some havoc or I at least expected more lurker action! Here’s hoping that Boomslang will rope us back in 🫤

Solid 4 stars. My favorite naga yet. This plot has me so sucked in. I loved these two together. A MMC who’s looked at as the villain by all of his own kind trying to correct wrongs of the past. A FMC who’s trying desperately to complete her mission and rescue her colleges. Together they find themselves falling for each and both want to resist but can’t. This book was just catnip for me. I really liked it! 😁

🌶🌶🌶🌶 (more than one scene but always wish for more)
🔥🔥🔥

I have been meaning to come back to this series at some point, and I am so glad I did! We finally get to read about Zhallaix, the misunderstood Death Adder.

We do not get a weak FMC in this book. Celeste can hold her own, being that she is the captain of her own crew. When Zhallaix meets her, he doesn't quite understand his connection to her, thinking he will always be alone due to being an Death Adder. We were given his story of his kind in the previous books, but now reading his story, we truly know who he is.

Celeste does not trust Zhallaix right away, but ends up requiring his help to find her missing crew. All Zhallaix wants, is to try to keep her by his side, but he thinks he is undeserving of a mate, so he decides to help while thinking he can never have her.

I would say this story has the most plot and growth between the MC's in series. Also, definitely my favorite. It is a good series, and I probably will read more in the future if I ever want a solid alien romance.

This was sooooo good! 😭 Unlike a lot of ppl, this one was my favorite of the series so far. (Except maybe Viper)
My only complaint is that there wasn't as much steam as the other books - but when we got it, it was 🔥!

Zhallaix was so broken, he didn't even believe he was worthy of a mate, and my heart melted for him.
Celeste was, imo, the strongest of the FMCs so far. She was conflicted about her duties and her attraction to Z, but I loved how rational she stayed in her decision making no matter how crazy things got. (cough unlike Shelby cough) She was a badass commander but she was still soft for her snake man when he needed it. *Screams*
Z wasn't as overbearing as the other nagas and I think that endeared me to him even more - good on him for showing restraint! I loved the crazy possessiveness of the other nagas, but I also appreciated switching it up for Z, and I think it suited his character, esp considering his past.

I'm trash for when both MCs fight their attraction, and OMG this book made me burrrrrn.

Stayed up till 3am to finish it in one sitting and now I wish I hadn't cuz I want to keep reading it!

I'm actually pretty disappointed with this one. It wasn't as compelling as the other books and going back to the location that we had just left in the previous book felt lame? We had been trapped in there for a whole book and now we were heading back in. We knew what would be there, it was no surprise. Imo this book did very little to move the overall plot of the series forward. I wanted the Death Adder to have been more. More dark, more everything. The other Nagas hype him up so much, conflicts with him in other books make him dangerous, but in his own book? He didn't live up to what I expected.

4.5 I think this one is my fave of the series so far. 👏🏼

Book 4 in the Naga Brides post apocalyptic scifi snake alien series and it has to be my favorite one so far. A team comes to earth to find out what happened to the previous crew and is led by strong and feisty Celeste. This was more plot heavy than the other books, expanding on the world, answering a lot of questions the previous books have posed, and the deepening the lore, especially with one of the snake species that all the other snakes hate, which makes for a very interesting, very emo MMC who has nothing to live for. Loved their chemistry and loved them individually as characters too.

This was fun!

Worldbuilding get's an A in this series, for sure!
The series goes on and another naga of the cast gets a star fallen woman! And it's the Death Adder Naga no less!
He was cool & very much mentally derranged as per usual... Celeste wasn't any better lmao she was also ridden with PTSD and leftover feelings of undeservedness of her hero title.

The duo Naga+Human woman were well matched but the virus-induced-insta-love felt less credible as the dialoge felt cold and very calculative at first.. in cases such as this there is no reason to instant matehood, they were both trying to fight it off which made it interesting ngl but kind of off the point there since the MMC knew what was bound to happen and FMC had understood the gist by that time.

The Lurker leftover tech shit is concerning and high-key ringing alarm bells in my brain! I cannot wait for shit to go down in the next books!!

Characters: Celeste and Zhallaix
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ out 5

I give this a 3.5.

Most of this series has been an okay reading experience, but I keep reading these books because the story is interesting (I love the world building of this post apocalyptic world), and the more the series progresses, the more interesting this world is and these Naga men.

This story was decent, it did drag in places for me and I’m not always a fan of the men and how they treat the women, but I did like Celeste and I felt like she reminded me a bit of Ellen Ripley from the Alien/Aliens franchise.

Zhallaix was an interesting character, though there were times he frustrated me when it came to Celeste. Where with her she showed some strong female heroine vibes, and I liked the fact that she was flawed and showed her vulnerability in certain situations.

I still love these books - especially this one as it has my favourite in it 'Zhallaix,' he's my favourite. I will always stand behind that decision.

Ratings -
- Book rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.75 Borderline 5 stars.
- Smut rating: 🌶️🌶️
- Character development: 🥺🥺🥺 for Zhallaix.
- Plot: 🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄 I will always the plot for these books.
- Romance: 🩷🩷2 hearts as she left, even though she was developing feelings. Just nope.

Zhallaix -

He's hard-headed, a typical alpha male, fights for what he deems is right and above all else bloody hot!

He's hot, yh he has scars but got damn long hair and a purple tail - sign me up!

I like that he isn't like the rest, he's standoffish, doesn't automatically pounce on Celeste. He sort of tried to talk himself out of it and stay away. I liked that, it was different especially since the others desperately wanted a female to make with. Zhallaix on the other hand didn't think himself worthy, especially since he is a death adder and the others deemed him violent and unpredictable.

But I generally liked his character he had baggage, he was rough around the edges, he showed emotions other than range and horniness - like all the others. He was scared and anxious and he even admitted to feeling scared especially when Celeste was moments away from entering his den. Only because he hadn't spoken about why, but he still admitted he was feeling scared at her being there.

I just really liked his development from beginning to end. Nobody can tell me otherwise. I honestly could picture his sad and angry face when he saw her leave - and to tell you the truth it hurt me a little inside.

Celeste -
Celeste on the other hand.... I hated her character. She was just... she just grated my nerves. Like I get she was on a mission and she was the captain, but come on you don't have to be a bitch though. I don't know if it was how she was written or just her character in general - I just didn't vibe with her like I did the others.

Like she really left, even after she established a connection with Zhalliax - literally just up and left and she was pregnant (but she didn't know until she found out). *Sigh* She just irritated me to no end. That's why I gave this book a 4.75 rating. If it had a different female character or a more developed character than Celeste than it would've been a 5 from me.

Definitely a re read for me though in the near future. :)

The more than a little feral naga are BACK and I am so here for it. This time around we have broody, scarred Zhallaix who has his heart and loins set on a human lady and BOY he doesn't hold back much, does he? The guy has as close to a death wish as a naga can have and he's pretty much feared and hated in equal parts by the other naga.

So when Celeste doesn't run screaming from him, Zhallaix basically doesn't know what to do. No, wait. He knows what to do. He's just a little taken aback over her lack of fear. After all, all the others head in another direction when he shows up, but this human woman stands toe to tail with him. Yeah. He's intrigued. He's also determined to lock down on his desires because he doesn't want to hurt her.

Meanwhile, Celeste is dealing with a whole lot of stuff. The ship and crew her team have been sent down to extract are...uhh, let's just say everything's in a bad way and leave it at that. Her crew is...hold up, I'm trying to find a good way to put this. Her crew is sort of falling apart as they uncover some of the things that happened planetside. People she should absolutely trust to have her back are acting a little sketchy and she's pretty sure those higher up the chain of command are doing things that aren't necessarily in her (or her squad's) best interest.

In other words, things are complicated.

On the plus side, we get a few more answers to some bubbling questions. That said, some of those answers lead to even more questions. Like, what is Central Command's plan for the naga and the shattered remains of earth and HOO BOY I don't like the potential behind Genesis-8 in ANYBODY'S hands. So, yeah. Answers, questions and more questions. MAN, I'm enjoying this series!

The Death Adder is officially one of my favorite nagas of the series. He just hits home. He's dark, broody, tortured, has scars, and a heavy and heart breaking task only he can fulfill. Zhallaix is different from the other nagas in this series because unlike Vruksha, Zaku, and Vagan, Zhallaix thinks logically and reasonably. So far only he and Azsote (Boomslang) are capable of saying "if she wants to leave, I'll grant her that wish". The other men just straight up possessive from the get-go. 😆

That's why I really warmed up to Zhallaix. He sees beyond the "repopulation" of the nagas or getting a bride. In fact, he's one of the nagas that didn't fight for one in the beginning and never planned to get one, ever, solely because he didn't think he was worthy. In the simplest of reasons, the Death Adder was just painfully lonely.

Our heroine, Celeste, is also lonely, but in a different way. She has survivor guilt and pretends to be tough when inside all she wants to do is break down. She can't afford to be weak except with her Doctor back in the Human ship, Laura, who often gave her good advice. She's not the "I'll put a knife to your throat" Badass. More like "If you touch the people important to me, I can't ensure your survival" kind of badass.

I love that she has a mission to retrieve a missing squadmate and friend and didn't stop until she found him and brought him back. With or without Zhallaix's help, she would have braved an alien world for someone she cared about.

She's dubbed "the fiercest female in all the land" by Zhallaix, who is also the fiercest naga of them all, and I think that's true.

The plot is plotting in this book, and I can't believe how rotten the politics are in the human colony (dubbed the Dreadnaught). I'm beginning to fear the worst for this couples but I'm holding onto hope that the author will give them all a happy ending.
