Twenty-two brilliant skilled authors now offer their journeys into revenge. Retribution. Redemption. Revealed how they would even the score, turn the tables, make things right. One used a map. The title of this book was not meant to be ironic, but with the cancellation of Bouchercon in New Orleans, the anthrology published to accompany the conference was all that was left standing. But don't dismay the book can stand alone with short stories from authors you know, some you don't know and other you should know. Twists and turns give this book a tantalizing spin on second chances.

This is a sometimes chilling, sometimes humorous, and always satisfying exploration of revenge, a strong and common response, even if not one we’re always proud of. It’s said that revenge is a dish best served cold, so just because all seems to be well . . . it might not be. It could be wise to heed the advice of Elizabeth Elo’s “Unappreciated Wife” and “be very careful how you treat (others). You just never know what a person is truly capable of.”
This is a well-balanced menu of stories from excellent authors, stories that I savored between longer works, revisiting favorite authors and being introduced to new ones. Well done!

I enjoyed this anthology, and I think one reason was that the theme was broad enough to cause a lot of variety in the stories (not the case in the other anthology nominee that I've read so far.) The nominee for the Anthony for best short story included here, Burnt Ends by Gabriel Valjan, was very good, not only historical (one of my favorite genres) but cathartically satisfying. It was fascinating to see what each author did with the theme - some stories light-hearted, some noir. Recommended.
