If you are at the very bottom, you should not be thinking about hanging on tight so as not to fall any further, but about climbing higher. Step by step, but higher. There is no other way in this cruel world.

Elb and his team know this, and their path leads upwards, towards those who look down on Drainagetown from a height and spit on the heads of its inhabitants. They call themselves the Spiders, and they do not allow strangers into their domain. Yet if your timing is right, it is possible to take a sure step upwards. Mind you, it is only a step, for Elb is not planning to stop. His aim is to discover the secrets of this world and understand why he was created.

Memories. They are coming back to our hero more frequently now, with snatches of his past life, but so far with no answers to his questions. Yet come what may, Elb will get his answers, and he will go to any lengths to achieve his aim. And those who stand in his way will drown in their own blood.

Read the latest installment in this RealRPG saga by Dem Mikhailov, author of the legendary “Clan Dominance: The Sleepless Ones” series, and creator of the shadowy new world of the Nullform.

This one had a few extra bits that felt harder to get into BUT that may be my own mental focus burn out so I'm erring towards the original planned 4 star

SO much is going on,
New denizens of these messy depths;
A hunt for a totem of power;
Unlikely allies, and likely enemies;
And more hints into where the flaws in Mother may be.

I did get frustrated with Elb's behavior early on but he eventually stopped being a dbag to his teammates later on so that helped.

Excited for book 5 as the suspense of the ending is rough!

Nullform #4 - An Intriguing Dive into the Unknown

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Nullform #4 by Dem Mikhailov is a compelling addition to the Nullform series, offering readers an opportunity to delve further into a complex and enigmatic narrative. This installment keeps the mystique alive while introducing new layers to the overarching story.

The book continues to explore the intricate web of mysteries and anomalies that have become the hallmark of the Nullform series. Mikhailov's storytelling in this installment is as cryptic as ever, pulling readers deeper into a world where the line between reality and the supernatural is blurred. The enigmatic protagonist's journey remains at the forefront, as he navigates the unknown, uncovering secrets and confronting peculiar phenomena.

The strength of Nullform #4 lies in its ability to maintain a sense of intrigue and curiosity throughout the narrative. Mikhailov's narrative style is well-suited to the genre, creating an atmosphere that keeps readers guessing and questioning the boundaries of the story. The plot is a puzzle in itself, with pieces slowly falling into place as the narrative progresses.

The character development in this installment is notable, particularly in the way the protagonist's past is explored. Readers are offered insights into his motivations and past experiences, shedding light on the enigma that is the central character. Supporting characters add depth to the story, although some remain intentionally shrouded in mystery.

The writing style in Nullform #4 is atmospheric and fitting for the enigmatic genre. The narrative is enhanced by vivid descriptions and a sense of foreboding that hangs over the plot. The author skillfully builds tension and intrigue, making this book a page-turner for those who enjoy narratives that challenge the mind.

However, it's worth noting that this installment, like others in the series, may not provide all the answers readers seek. The deliberate ambiguity and cryptic nature of the story are part of its charm but can also be frustrating for those looking for a more concrete resolution.

Nullform #4 is a thought-provoking and enigmatic addition to the series, offering an engaging narrative that thrives on mystery and intrigue. It maintains the series' signature aura of the unexplained, making it a must-read for fans of cryptic and intellectually stimulating fiction. If you're ready to embrace the unknown and explore a narrative that challenges your perception of reality, this book is a worthy addition to your reading list.
