Monster Guild: The Dark Lords (No-Good) Comeback! #1

Monster Guild: The Dark Lord's (No-Good) Comeback! Vol. 1

Rate this book
It's hard to defeat a mighty hero when he keeps coming back to life -- in fact, it's impossible. The Dark Lord, stuck in a loop of battling a good guy who won't stay dead, finally loses the fight and meets his own end... or so it would seem. The Dark Lord saved himself by putting his soul into an empty vessel, and now he's about to stage his own comeback. He may be weak now, but along with his newly formed fellowship of misfits -- a slime, an orc, an ifrit, and a dark elf -- he's convinced he can rebuild his evil empire, one bumbling step at a time.

A comedic fantasy series that didn't quite do it for me. The protagonist is a megalomaniac who was once a powerful evil warlord, but now is a remnant.

He spends the whole volume ranting and raving while people rightfully don't take him serious. The joke is funny at first, but then wears thin. I liked him being forced to explore what his former minions thought of him, it created some promise, but just wasn't enough to keep me invested.

This was just an average book. Nothing too exciting but nothing too boring either. Just an average book. 3/5 stars.

This was a fun read! It's silly and funny, I like that the focus is on the monsters. My only complaint is there's a fat phobic joke that rubbed me the wrong way. Still, an enjoyable read.
