Misplaced Mistletoe

Rate this book
One secret kiss under the mistletoe can never lead to happily ever after…right?

Once upon a time, Nora shared the hottest kiss ever—followed by an equally steamy Christmas—with her boss’s super-sexy brother. Then he ghosted her. That was eight years ago. Now, she’s completely over it. And when he shows up at the annual holiday party, she will not let herself repeat past mistakes. This time, she’ll stay far away from the mistletoe…

Ashton doesn’t lose control. Ever. Well, except for that one time. His focus has always been on completing his residency and fellowship programs. But seeing the gorgeous redhead again makes him think that losing a little control, just once more, might be just what the doctor ordered…

Will the magic of the season—with an assist from a certain mischievous matchmaker—convince Nora and Ashton to take a second chance on love? It might just take a Christmas miracle…

Batteries Not Included: Be aware, this holiday novella includes oh, so fun sexy times, naughty language, and loads of holiday spirit. Intended for mature audiences.

Misplaces Mistletoe is a fun, steamy, uplifting holiday novella that delivers a joyous happily ever after. It is a part of the West Side Series, but it is a standalone romance, and all of the books in the series can be read in any order.

My books feature tough characters facing tougher choices, compelling suspense, and storylines that'll make you think. But no matter how dark things get, my people always choose love.

This book ended my Holiday Romance 2021 dry spell!

MISPLACED MISTLETOE is a great second chance/one night stand romance, centered around a Holiday party that happens every year. Eight years ago, Nora shared a seriosuly steamy night with a stranger at the party. Now, she meets Ashton again and their lives intersect. Neither has forgotten that night or the fact that Ashton ghosted her afterwards.

I loved Nora so much! She is strong and caring. She gives to others often and is so sweet. Despoite the fact that we know early on that Ashton ghosted her after a onbe night stand, I really came to love him. He realizes what a doofus he was and, once he decides he wants a second chanve, he goes all in.

Okay, I could have used a few MORE sexy scenes, but I'm a perv like that.

RATING:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
STEAM LEVEL: Rated PG-13
TRIGGERS: drug addiction, loss of child custody, foster care
FEELS-O-METER: 3/5 - So many feels you might tear up a little.

This book was such a fast and a cute read. The way the author showed how they were when they first met and how it was in present made it even better. The book also has so many holiday themes which made it feel so cozy and swoony.
The switch between past and present showed how much each other grew and developed their personality over the years. This is what a second chance novella with the intention of being cute and swoon worthy should be. Absolutely adored the couple.
The name of the chapters was the best thing in this book in my opinion, they were so good!!!

This is a perfect holiday read!! Do give it a try😍

I loved Anna and Jackson's side of the story as well.

Misplaced Mistletoe is a one night stand, second chance, forbidden romance read. Nora and Ashton meet over the holidays. Their attraction to one another is instant. She’s from a small town and new to New York. He’s in medical school and not looking for a relationship. They meet and it is on until it is not. When reality sets in and the holidays pass, they no longer see each other. Fast forward eight years and they reconnect. Both have come a long way from where they were and although Nora is hesitant, Ashton is all in - it wasn’t easy, but it was so worth it and when they finally get their happily ever after it was perfect for them. Misplaced Mistletoe is a great, read in one sitting (although I would not call it a novella) holiday romance, TBR and Enjoy!

Eight years ago, Nora met Ashton at her new boss's holiday party. They shared a kiss under the mistletoe and then left together, talking for hours before hooking up. He called her on Christmas Eve, and after they spent the night together Ashton invited her to Christmas dinner with him and his sister at a friend's home in Connecticut. However, when Nora learned that his sister was actually her boss, Anna, she freaked out and refused to go. She had only worked for Anna for a week and was afraid that she'd be fired for hooking up with her boss's brother. They parted ways and Ashton never called her again. Since then, Anna's party has become an annual event, though on a much grander scale. Ashton, now a fully qualified heart surgeon, hasn't attended because he was too busy with work, but this year he shows up and makes things uncomfortable for Nora. He's still incredibly attracted to her and determined to make up for past mistakes, but she won't allow herself to make the same mistake twice. Can Ashton convince Nora to give him a second chance for Christmas?

I wanted to like this story a lot more than I actually did. The whole premise is that Ashton "ghosted" Nora, but I'm not sure that's really what happened. I read the flashback scene of their last encounter multiple times, and unless I completely missed something, I never saw him promise to call her as she claimed. Not only that, their fight seemed an awful lot like a breakup to me; Nora didn't leave much room for them to move forward given her fears about what would happen if Anna found out about their relationship. What exactly was the plan if Ashton had called? The fact is that neither one of them was ready for a relationship back then, and if they had tried it, they probably wouldn't have made it. Ashton needed to focus on becoming a doctor, and Nora had a ton of emotional baggage to work through. It's unfair to put all of the blame on Ashton, and Nora's grudge against him really bothered me.

I'm being nit-picky, but I was also bothered by the author's incorrect use of terminology related to doctors and misunderstanding of their career progression. For example, people in medical school are not yet doctors, they're medical students. Medical students are not residents; residency comes after medical school. Internship is the first year of residency. Finally, cardiothoracic surgeons perform surgery on hearts, not cardiologists. Again, I know this is nit-picky, but the fact is that details matter, and getting them wrong can serve as a big distraction, taking readers out of the story. (There's really no excuse for getting these particular details wrong, either; they're ridiculously easy to find with a simple Google search. Besides, anybody who's watched an episode or two of Grey's Anatomy or ER probably knows the basics already!)

In the end, I didn't hate this novella, but I don't think I can recommend it. Even though it wasn't for me, it may well appeal to existing fans of the West Side series (and people who are less detail-oriented than I am). I've read other books by this author in the past and really enjoyed them, so I will plan to pick up her next book and hope for a better result.

Coming face to face with the man who ghosted her 8 years ago is not how Nora wants to spend her upcoming holidays. 8 years ago she was a newbie to New York, and at her first company Christmas party. Ending up under the mistletoe and having the hottest kiss of her life (and more) with who turns out to be her boss' brother could very well be the thing to turn her off the city. Luckily she survives being ghosted after and now years later she's a tried and true New Yorker, with the hardened (but only outwardly) outlook that comes with surviving the city. The last thing she needs is to see Ashton again, the man who hurt her enough that she's not gotten over it.

Ashton hasn't gotten over Nora either and he's a changed man after having finally made it through residency and now a full-fledged doctor. Now all he wants is for Nora to give him a second chance this Christmas. Will she ever open up to him again? Perhaps she'll soften toward him if he gets her under the mistletoe enough times...

This is a sweet second chance holiday romance. Nora truly takes Ashton on a chase, not wanting or trusting him enough to open up her bruised heart. She's such a sweet soul and knows her heart cannot possibly take another ghosting. Thank God Ashton had truly changed, was equally sweet, (and persistent) and only wanting to be in her life again. I'm so looking forward to the holidays now after having fallen in love with this Christmas second chance.

Misplaced Mistletoe is a sweet and sexy Christmas novella that reads as a complete standalone, but also re-visits all the couples from the West Side Series by Ms. Jolie. What an enjoyable holiday read -- lots of holiday spirit, holiday parties, gifts and snow and an adorable fur baby named Chewie, what more could you ask for?! You'll be cheering for Nora and Ashton's second chance like I did and I have no doubt you'll enjoy their journey as much as I enjoyed it. Nice addition to the West Side Series!

Nora and Ashton were meant to be, even if they didn’t think that they were. They’d had a chance, but someone bailed on them before that chance really got to become an actual relationship years ago. So when they’re thrust together today, Nora is more than willing to run away. She’s not expecting Ashton to follow her. And to catch up. And to do all he can to keep her. So they had a few things to work through, some forgiveness to grant (more on one party than another), and the ability to move forward together one things are straightened out. It helps that there is some serious determination involved in making things right and giving someone the family they deserve more than anything.

Nora and Ashton definitely earned their happiness and gave readers a realistic story, complete with the reasons for “then” vs “now” without losing the heart of their tale. So sit down, get comfy, and enjoy the Christmas ride to love!

HONEST ARC REVIEW

If you’re in the mood for a quick Christmas themed Second chance romance, then this is for you. I loved Nora and how strong she is, and Ashton the cardiologist for myself?

When Nora and Ashton met the first time, lets just say it was right person wrong time. I loved to see how they used to be and who they are not.

It is a very quick read and it gives you all the Christmas warm and fuzzies. I did want to read more of these two, but it’s a Novella so I have to deal.

Thank you so much for the arc.

It's that time of year for holiday romance and I couldn't wait to pick up another book by Isabel Jolie. Not to mention that Nora is from my home state of Iowa.

A charming second-chance romance about hooking up on the holiday, being ghosted, and meeting each other again eight years later.

Nora is used to being alone. Growing up in foster care she learned to only rely on herself and not others. She's cautious about who she shares her life with. So when the man who never called her back eight years ago shows up in her life again, she tries to blow him off and push him away. She doesn't need to get her hopes again. She's used to spending Christmas alone and knows everyone has other plans that don't involve her. But Dr. Ashton Daughtridge knows he needs to prove to Nora that he wants to spend time with her. He feels guilty for not calling her back so many years ago and he never forgot her. He just wasn't ready for a relationship what with his crazy hours as a resident in medical school. However, this time, he's going to take it slow and win her over. It's a bit tougher than he thought.

Nora's past broke my heart. Being a lifer in foster care didn't make it easy for her to trust. Her sadness is palpable as she turns down many invites to celebrate Christmas with friends. She just doesn't want to have a reminder that she has no family. Nora's kindness and generosity are notable as she volunteers at the food bank to those who are more unfortunate. Her friendship and support for one of the mothers who is recovering from addiction to get custody of her little girl are genuine as Nora knows what it is like firsthand.  Ashton is handsome and charming and is deservedly led on a merry chase trying to even get Nora to talk to him again. I love that he makes a point to not leave her alone on Christmas. He was a bit stalkerish, but he meant well.

If you love Christmas romances and believe in second chances, please give this delightful book a try.

Thank you to Ms. Jolie for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Misplaced Mistletoe is a sweet second chance holiday novella from Isabel Jolie bringing us back to New York with all the friends from her Westside series. You can certainly enjoy this story without having read any of the series and it will simply be a cute little holiday story.

Ashton and Nora met at a holiday party and they shared a connection starting under the mistletoe and moving further to their lack of family for the holidays. Eight years later, after never hearing back from him again, Nora bumps into Ashton again at her work holiday party. Determined not to make the same mistake twice Nora tries to avoid him but this time he doesn't want to give up so easy. It's a classic the timing wasn't right second chance.

With this being a novella, I expect the story to move quickly- and it does but not too quickly that it feels like its too rushed. Misplaced Mistletoe does do a lot of alternating between present day and when these two met 8 years ago. While I love being immersed in the background of the story, sometimes the switch back and forth would take me out of the moment I was currently at in the story so when it would continue on after the flashback I sometimes had to take a couple minutes to regain in my mind what had been happening before the flashback.

Both of these characters were sweet- Nora just had a gentle spirit and kind heart because of all the things she had gone through growing up but Ashton was sweet for Nora and I liked how he set out to prove that he wasn't the same man he was before and how he never really forgot about her.

All in all, this is a cute story and it felt good to get a glimpse at some of the Westside characters again while one more person got their HEA.

4.5 stars! This was a sweet, sexy holiday second chance novella. Nora and Ashton first hook up at her company’s holiday party. What starts with a kiss under the mistletoe takes them away from the party and into her apartment. While not technically a one night thing, they do get back together another time after that holiday party encounter, Ashton essentially ghosts her. And after she found out he was her new boss’ brother, and she wasn’t wanting to get a bad reputation at her new job, it still crushed her to be ghosted by the first guy she decided to hook up with since coming to New York.

Flash forward 8 years, and Nora finds herself, once again, face to face with Ashton at her company’s holiday party. Only this time, despite how sexy and attractive she still finds him, she’s pissed, and not at all interested in giving him a second chance. Too bad nobody told her body that. And Ashton is determined to get the sexy redhead that he never forgot back into his good graces. The story is told in an alternating current day/flash back format for about two thirds of the book. This is actually really effective for this story, as it gives us peeks back to that first set of experiences and slowly provides peeks into where Nora’s head is at now as she navigates the current situation with Ashton. They were both much younger, and he definitely made his share of mistakes, so it’s good to see him own up to that and work to make up for it. It gets emotional as Nora decides to slowly open herself up to possibility, terrified of having her heart broken again. But they do have great chemistry, and if anything that spurs them along.

The holidays are a nice backdrop for their story, but really not consequential to a lot. Neither of them is particularly crazy about Christmas, which is actually something they have in common. The story unfolds naturally and realistically, and was a good, sexy, fun, emotional holiday romance.

8 years ago Nora was new to New York City. At her first holiday party with her new boss Anna, she meets Ashton. As a relationship started to bloom between the two, we lay witness to just how busy of a life he lives as a resident doctor not sure what his path would be. As life happens they go separate ways. Years have passed and these two run into each other again at the same holiday party. Neither have settled down but Nora hasn’t forgiven Ashton for how things ended. Problem is, neither have been able to forget the other. As Nora’s co-workers try to help her find her special someone she has made it her mission to avoid the one thing that started her relationship with Ashton in the first place- Mistletoe. That is never as easy as it sounds, but do these two have enough forgiveness and time to give to the other to make it a go of it this time?

What a fun novella. I know that Ms. Jolie doesn’t write them usually, but I love a little holiday magic and this one was perfect! We get a beautiful glimpse into what makes Nora and Ashton who they are and why the relationship was so hard the first time. Nora was brought up in the system and has no family. She is such strength and love in her that you can tell she leads her life to be tough, but is just wearing the mask. Ashton, is finally a doctor after 8 years and found his specialty, but life wasn’t easy for him either. I love the secondary characters as they help keep the story together and give a peek into how others see our hero and heroine. This was well written and just great read.

I love the message about giving others (and yourself) a second chance in Isabel Jolie's holiday novella Misplaced Mistletoe.

Ashton and Nora met at her office holiday party. Hitting it off, they hooked up, and Nora never heard back from Ashton again. Eight year later, they run into each other again at another work party. While she is adamant at avoiding him at all costs, he is pretty determined to get a second chance.

I like the time jump because it made Ashton's growth from an overwhelmed, somewhat immature man more believable. It also provided Nora time to do some growing up on her own, and Isabel Jolie does a fantastic job of subtly demonstrating this through Nora's actions and activities.

I like the pacing; it might be a novella but it is not insta-love or the story does not feel rushed at all. There are moments, especially in the beginning, where the transition between two timelines felt awkward.

If you're looking for a quick, steamy holiday read about second chances, this is a good pick-up.

Reading this book was like watching an adorable holiday movie, full of charm with all the holiday mistletoe moments.

Nora and Ashton's story moved back and forth between past and present from the first time they met at a holiday party to the present when they reconnect.

While their meet-cute is a sort of a drunken hookup where they first kissed under the mistletoe, there was a connection that neither one of them could deny. However, Nora was fresh in New York City and just beginning her job. She really didn't have time to commit to a long term relationship, but neither did Ashton. He was attending med school and in deep in his surgical residency, but he didn't exactly end their brief time together in the best way and now it's eight years later and Nora is once again standing under the mistletoe.

Nora is steadfast in trying to keep Ashton in her past. She doesn't want to repeat the mistakes she's made before by letting Ashton in, but he's relentless in his pursuit of her this time around. Knocking down her walls and forcing his way past of every obstacle she throws up. This time he's ready for a relationship and he doesn't want to lose her again, not for another eight years.

A great novella just in time for the holiday season.

Sometimes novellas are too short, and I feel never give all of the characters. Some do not go to into the characters, but I can honestly say not Misplaced Mistletoe. It gives you everything. Like every novella though always wanting more. Nora and Ashton were not ready for each other 8 years ago when they met at the annual Christmas party. He was still in med school, and she was just starting at her first real job. Now they cross paths 8 years later and the timing is right. But can Nora forget what happened 8 years ago. Can she move on and trust Ashton?
Ashton realizes what he did all those years ago was wrong, and now he wants a second chance with Nora. He has changed and is ready for a relationship. All he has to do is convince Nora that he has changed, and he wants to be with her. Easy, right?
Sometimes things happen in life we do not understand but if it is meant to be it will be. The timing was not right when they first met, but now the stars are aligning and its their time. A very enjoyable story for two people who had some growing up to do before they found their HEA with each other.

Eight years ago, their magical night seemed the beginning of something special. Nora met Ashton at the Evolve Ad Agency party and there was an immediate connection. He said he would call, but… Now eight years later, Nora is thrilled with her career at Evolve and her friendship with her coworkers when he reappears, Dr. Robert Ashton Daughtridge. She learns that he is her boss’ brother and attempts to evade him, but he is persistent in his pursuit. She doesn’t want to be hurt again, but is there a second chance for them? A sweet romance, but it took a while for me to “like” Ashton again after the way he treated Nora eight years ago. She had been raised in foster care and the fact that he never called was particularly hurtful. I enjoyed the update and camaraderie between Nora, Ashton and the previous characters. Misplaced Mistletoe by Isabel Jolie
This book was quick second chance holiday novela. Eight years ago Ashton and Nora meet under the mistletoe and connected. They are both not in the right place for something long lasting and Aston leaves Nora behind. Eight years later they meet gain and Nora has her guard up not wanting to repeat the mistakes of the past. Ashton however isn’t ready to let her get away this time. Nora however steadfast in trying to keep Ashton in her past. She wants no part at repeating mistakes. Ashton is relentless this time around in his pursuit of her not wanting to lose her again. I think you will really enjoy the fact that Nora doesn’t just let him in again and make him proof he is serious this time around. It I such a great holidays novela that every one can enjoy. Really truly a must read for everyone to grab.

Misplaced Mistletoe is a short(ish) read so it's super easy to read it in one sitting. Nora is a girl whose upbringing was super sucky, so she sure doesn't let a lot of people past her walls because of course she has some trust issues. Her story begins with her hooking up with her boss' brother at her first company Christmas party in NYC, and poor Nora, Ashton is a coward & ghosts her which hit her a bit hard. It's eight years later when she comes across his path again, and she's not having any of him, but of course, now he wants her (can you feel my eyes rolling through this review?!). He wants a second chance with her this Christmas, and at least he's going all in, but good for Nora, she's not making it easy. To see how it all pans out, you'll have to hit those one click buttons as I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This was a quick and fun holiday romance with a one-night stand, second chances, a forbidden romance, and some well misplaced mistletoe. Nora and Ashton met over the holidays at a party hosted by Nora’s boss. She is from a small town and brand new to New York. He is a medical student and not in the position to start a relationship. Their chemistry is off the charts and attraction is instant. But when reality sets in and some secrets are revealed, they are split apart. Flash forward a few years and they are thrown back together. Can they set aside past hurts and reconnect over the holidays again?

While this one felt a little rushed to me, I still really enjoyed this story. I'm intrigued and ready to read more by Isabel Jolie.

Eight years ago, Nora and Ashton met at a Christmas party. Their chemistry and connection were instant and undeniable. However, after that first incredible night together, things fell apart. Now they have a second chance, but only if they can look beyond that old pain. I spent this book wanting to hug Nora tight, promising to make it all better. I didn’t have to, though, Ashton pretty much does it for me. I loved seeing how hard Ashton worked to show Nora that he was different from the man who had disappointed her back then and how much he wanted to continue to be a better person for her. I also completely adored getting this chance to check back in on most of the couples from the West Side series.

Dual POVS ✔️
Alternating timelines ✔️
Magical Christmas setting ✔️
And a second chance romance ✔️

Misplaced Mistletoe is the perfect Christmas novella between Ashton and Nora who meet at a Christmas party and a kiss under the mistletoe leads to a steamy hookup that didn’t lead anywhere once Nora learned Ashton was her brand new boss’s older brother. 8yrs has past and Ashton is still the same guy but different and determined to earn a second chance with Nora.

Misplaced Mistletoe features side characters from @isabeljolieauthor ‘s West Side series and while I haven’t read that series yet I felt like there was enough information to get an idea how everyone fit together and their stories.

I feel like I just finish reading one of hallmark holiday books. The story is sweet and swoon-worthy yet gives a little bit of angsty vibe. Second chance is one of my favorite tropes so I know when I read something good and this book isn't an exception. 8 years ago, Ashton had a chance with Nora but he failed it. Now fate brings them back together and Ashton wants his second chance. It is quite entertaining to read Ashton chases after Nora. Nora deserves someone who loves her fiercely. The author writes it so good I can feel Nora's pain and makes me feel heartbreaking for her. I even sniff while I am reading this part. So yeah, Ashton has a lot to prove himself to her so be prepared for some swoon actions. In short, this book's worth to read on Christmas Holiday!

Christmas Magic Reawakened

Isabel Jolie’s holiday story in her ‘West Side’ series is a second chance novella. Ashton and Nora, the main characters, met under the mistletoe eight years ago at an office party and had a one night stand. Nora was devastated that she was ghosted by Ashton but determination strengthened her to put it behind her and move on with her life. It’s now been eight years and another office party is going on and guess who shows up out of the blue? This story has characters from the ‘West Side’ series that just makes it even more fun to read. The book has exciting adventures and romance that is so riveting I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!

This is Book 6 in the West Side Series by this author. It is a second chance holiday romance between one time lovers, Nora and Ashton. Once they re-connect, it is a journey of self-discovery as these two flawed but likeable characters figure out a renewed relationship between them with love and intimacy while overcoming life's challenges. It is a love story dealing with maturing love, forgiveness, and redemption, along with some drama, turmoil, passion, and steam, plus engaging secondary characters to keep the reader interested. It can be read as a standalone but you enhance your reading pleasure if you read the other books in the series.

This was an adorable Christmas story spanning over 8 years! Nora and Ashton meet at a holiday party and hook up after a drunken night. A few days later he asks her out only for her to find out he is the brother of her new boss, obviously she declines and never speaks of it again. Fast forward 8 years and at this same holiday party which has grown in size she runs into him again and sparks fly, however still hurt over how things transpired 8 years ago Nora isn't falling again. Will these two find a way to make it work 8 years later with the help of some sneaky friends and some misplaced mistletoe? A must read for holiday fun!

Misplaced Mistletoe was a sweet and spicy holiday romance! The story alternated between their first meeting and the current holiday season. It wasn’t all romance, either - it had more depth than the usual Christmas read, with discussion of addiction, foster care, and not letting the past define our future. Nora and Ashton were realistic, likeable characters and I loved their second chance!

Note: I didn’t realize this was part of a larger series and now want to go back and read the rest of their stories! You can definitely read it as a standalone, too.

Thank you to Isabel Jolie and Grey’s Promotions for the free advanced copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
