I have many thoughts on this book, and I do love reading non-standard romance, so bear with me here.
First thought. Despite a torturous romance story, the ending makes up for it. It's absolutely wonderful and explains quite a lot of behaviours on the male character's part.
Second thought. Till The End of The Moon c-drama series brought me here, and so far I have much more satisfaction with the novel itself than with its TV adaptation despite the atrocious translation. I understand the reasoning for the changes, I do. If the characters and story arc stayed as they are the drama wouldn't see the light of day and would be censored. I watched enough Chinese dramas to know the strict rules of how everyone should be portrayed morally. Tantai Jin is a proper antihero, and this romance is very dark. If you like R.Lee Smith books, you will enjoy this one. On the other hand, Li Su Su portrayal in the drama doesn't do her character justice. Her character is colder and more ruthless to Tantai Jin than it's shown on TV. Sometimes I didn't know who to feel sorry for more, Tantai Jin or Li Su Su. And in the latter part of the novel Tantai Jin firmly had my sentiments.
Third thought, the plot is very convoluted because it involves multiple timelines (at least 4), but you can also explain it pretty simply.
Our heroine, Li Su Su is a hundred year old immortal (very young by their standards) living in a world ravaged by a devil god and his army of demons. The world has no light and the immortals are slowly getting wiped out because no one can fight the evil overlord. The immortals last hope is to send someone 500 years back into the past when the devil god was still human and figure out how to remove an evil bone from him without killing the guy (which will instantly turn him into the devil god). The choice falls on Li Su Su for various reasons, and she is sent back to a body of a human Ye Xiwu who is ironically married to Tantai Jin, a human would be devil god.
The guy is a psychopath. A. He can not feel and process emotions apart from his need for survival B. His lack of emotions, his supernatural abilities and his very bad political standing as a hostage prince turned him into an object of constant abuse since the age of 6 when he was sent to be a hostage. So, yes, this did not improve his character, just made him deadlier.
Li Su Su's host, Ye Xiwu is an abuser herself. She is a spoilt rich girl who terrifies her household and who got married to Tantai Jin because he foiled her awful plan to ruin her love rival and turned it onto her to escape his life in the Palace. She beats him, humiliates him and generally wants him to die. In fact, when Li Su Su arrives into her body, the girl is nearly killed because Tantai Jin had enough and arranged for her own killing.
We are in for a great start, right?
Li Su Su is not an abuser, she is fair and stoic and has her mission in her sights at all times, but she also hates Tantai Jin's guts for all the suffering he will inflict in the future, so her desire to make him love her and find how to extract his evil bone, to protect his life is constantly warring with her deep seated hatred. She is tough, and so is he. When they end up adventuring together, there is always push and pull of hate towards each other, and his inability to figure her out in all her complexities only adds to his confusion. They are both awful and at the same time magnetic, and her redeeming him doesn't actually change his character very much. He just changes towards her, but because of his inability to understand his emotions he does not understand himself until much later in the novel.
Su Su is so concentrated on what she has to do, she doesn't allow herself to feel anything or ti give him any leeway either. Add to it many many machinations of side characters, and this novel is an absolute rollercoaster. I really like watching the TV adaptation too because it just adds so much more richness to this story. It's changed, lighter and has comedic moments , which annoys me at times, and the characters are much more human, but the plot is more cohesive and easier to follow, plus the cast is gorgeous, especially Leo Luo/Luo Yunxi who is exquisite as Tantai Jin.
To conclude, this is not for everyone, and is easier to digest if you are familiar with xinxia dramas, and I also enjoyed it very much! This was definitely my catnip.

Angst, angst and more angst.

A transmigration xianxia story divided into three arcs. The English blurb is somewhat misleading, there is no system, it's not that kind of game points system where the protagonist has to adhere to a predetermined script. Li Susu, a young cultivator in her sect, was chosen to go back in time 500 years to stop a demonic evil lord. She transmigrates into the body of Ye Xiwu, a beloved third daughter of a famed general. Tantai Jin at this moment is just a pitiable hostage prince from another kingdom. Susu has to harden her heart towards him, remembering all the destruction and deaths he causes in the future. Her task is to drive these nine nails into his heart. Along the way, they fall into this dreamscape similar to Aranya's Dream in 3 Lives 3 Worlds with predetermined fates involving a very tragic clam princess. Xiwu's eldest sister, Ye Bingsheng, is the second female lead and Bingsheng's husband Xiao Lin is the second male lead. Reading this, I can definitely imagine Luo Yunxi as Tantai Jin, a pale sickly prince turned vengeful. Jin is written as a psychopath with no sense of remorse over his actions and unable to access normative human emotions.

DNF at chapter 84. This is supposedly where the sweetness comes.

This book is made entirely of misunderstandings and amnesia tropes on repeat! How are you going to follow the protagonists through multiple different words and timelines and have the same stupid misunderstanding plotline every time?? This bs is continuing all the way to chapter 123 in a 131 chapter novel??? Bsffr! A better written book with the same exact plot that's executed 100% better is Mistakenly Saving the Villain. Read that one instead and save yourself the headache.

Watch the LA drama adaptation ‘Till The End of the Moon’ if you’re into romance. It is not as heavy as the novel and TTJ is not as evil and there are a lot of romantic and comic relief moments.

Luo Yunxi is an excellent casting choice for TTJ. He portrayed both beautiful, fragile-looking hostage prince and all-powerful malicious devil god very well. Li Su Su is much kinder and understanding in the drama. CGI is pretty good as well.

But…. if heart-wrenching pain, toxic relationships, anti-hero/ villainous MCs and their descent into madness, deep psychological and thought-provoking plots with a side of spice is your poison, then the novel is the right choice.

The plot is basically a time travel dilemma. FL Li Su Su lives in a world that is ruled by the tyrannical and mass-murdering Devil God who is invincible. So her clan sent her back to 500 years ago where the Devil God was a weak mere mortal- a bullied and tortured hostage prince- to find his ‘evil bone’ and then kill him.

Be warned. This is not for the faint of heart.
The relationship between ML and FL is extremely toxic- both are unlikable characters.

ML is born and made evil by his destiny and life circumstances. He is straight up psychopathic- lacking emotions and filled with only desire for survival and power.

FL is vindictive and unkind punishing ML for things the devil god will do 500 years in the future,i e, things ML has NOT even done yet.

Their chemistry however is off the charts. Their love hate dynamics is explosive to themselves and others around them but damn, it makes engrossing drama.
(There are a lot of dub-con scenes so read the CWs beforehand!)

There are (very few) sweet scenes in the end and it did end in HEA so there’s that. ( LA adaptation could have given us an HE. LA’s MCs both deserved it. Whyyy youkou whyy?)

All in all, I would not recommend this as a love story to any one but it is undeniably entertaining in a dramatic, toxic, intense and complicated way.

3.5 stars? I liked the OTP interactions (as painful as they were. Like prepare to get your heart broken/ be disappointed multiple times throughout.) But the xianxia stuff got old and confusing.

I'm super excited for the upcoming drama adaptation with Bai Lu and Luo Yunxi though! LYX is perfect to play Tantai Jin.

I started reading this book because of the drama adaptation. I was really enjoying the drama and decided to start the book to see how it was different, since my friend mentioned that a lot of the book scenes made it to the drama.

I've never read a book with this kind of love/hate relationship before (STRONG emphasis on the hate part). It was interesting. There was definitely not a lot of sweetness, and when there are sweet moments, that's a red flag because that's not normal for their relationship lol

In a nutshell, the story follows a young woman called Li Susu who's sent back 500 years in time to stop the demon king when he was just a mortal. Her body in the past is called Ye Xiwu and just happens to be the wife to Tantai Jin, a young hostage prince and also the future demon king. Her goal is to remove the evil bones from his body so that he doesn't become the demon king.

**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**

Tantai Jin's character was pretty consistent with how he was portrayed in the drama. He had an extremely pitiful upbringing and can't tell right from wrong or feel any emotions in general. Susu described him as "bloodthirsty, ruthless, and would do anything to survive. He was lacking empathy, compassion, and comprehension of the feeling of shame" and it's completely accurate. However, you can't help but feel bad for him. His life really is pitiful, like when his de facto mother / childhood nurse betrays him, or when his leg and hand tendons are sliced and his left eye is blinded by his brother. Like wowwww that's a lot for anyone to suffer. His sexual urges were also quite interesting. Seems like he gets off on pain, which given his life experience may not be that surprising lol

In reading the novel, what surprised me was Li Susu's character. In the book she's nowhere as nice to him as she is in the drama, though the same internal conflict exists between her desire to kill him off quickly and her need to keep him alive until the evil bones are removed. And throughout her life as Ye Xiwu, I don't think she starts liking him even a little bit, though there's definitely a lot of pity.

She's focused first on keeping him alive and goes to great lengths to do so, to the point where she's sacrifices her own left eye for him and takes the death flower into her own body. Once TTJ is established as the emperor and his life is no longer in danger, then Susu focuses solely on the mission of removing his evil bone from his body. I was hoping to see her hesitate a little in that pivotal scene where she nails him with the soul piercing nails since he just protected her from the arrows, but she went straight for it. And she doesn't hesitate again in the tower scene to sacrifice her own life to remove the evil bones from his body. That scene was probably one of my favorites from the book.

Then we learn that Susu doesn't actually die because she has the blood of the divine phoenix clan in her, so she returns to her original timeline, except everything is different now because TTJ didn't become the demon lord. However, he's still around and pretending to be an immortal cultivator called Cang Jiumin. This last part of the book was less interesting to me, partially because I switched to reading the MTL at this point and the translation quality sucked, but also because their relationship became more frustrating to read about. Susu has PTSD from her past life and can't trust TTJ, so even though he's completely sincere in his actions towards her, she still doubts everything he does for her until it's too late and he's gone over to the demon side.

One thing that I never understood, how did Susu get pregnant in her current timeline? The only times she and TTJ slept together were in the past with Ye Xiwu's body, and when she sacrified herself, that was in YXW's body, so how did her daughter get conceived in Li Susu's body? Maybe the explanation was lost in the terrible MTL translation; I'll never know.

I'm also a bit unclear on what happened with Ye Bingshang taken the protection scale and love thread that was (I think) meant for Susu's mother, but again bad translations...

In general, the novel was much darker than the drama. Most of the side characters from the 500 years past are killed, and not in good ways. I felt bad for both Susu and the 6th prince for how things played out there, and surprisingly Ye Bingshang had the worst death of them all, for how much TTJ supposedly cared about her. Even the reason why she and TTJ had to do a shotgun marriage is different. Though in both cases there are drugs/poison involved, but in the drama it's a one-time thing and it didn't even happen, and in the book Susu will literally die if she doesn't have sex with TTJ once a month due to the nature of the poison.

I'm about halfway through the drama now and their relationship is super sweet, and all I can think about as I watch is that that's definitely NOT the case in the novel haha

it was so good for me !! really really long story but somehow I managed to persevere through and I really enjoyed it 💗🥰
ok this story is really complicated and much better than I thought , I decided to read it because they were doing a drama adaptation and my favourite actress would be starring in it so I figured out I should just read it.I’ve also heard many many good comments about this book and many people recommended this book to readers interested in a little fantasy and a little time travel.luckily I started.
one of the best fantasy I have read,I don’t dare to spoil too much but there were quite a lot of plot twists for me and I was really really amazed by this fictional world so I didn’t stop midway. Many details were dealt very well and honestly I was pretty surprised because I’ve read a contemporary romance by the same author before and it was - awful for me.but this was like 10x better please
it’s really complicated and I had to search up on a lot of the words because you basically don’t use them in modern context anymore so it was tiring but really really worth it.I’m not gonna give a synopsis for this cuz it’s a little too long and too much for me to read but yes it’s 5 stars from me.

i mean i actually loved this book a lot so I’m even more looking forward already,Chinese fantasy is really really my type so it wasn’t that torturous but yes it’s a long story and if you don’t persevere enough to get to the back part where everything is fast paced already,you probably won’t really like the story.
oh please this is greattttttttttttttttttttttttttt and I can’t emphasise this enough !! cant wait for the show 🥰🥰ok I didn’t really like the ending … but well there were two endings and I much preferred the sadder ending,since the name of the book itself already hinted that the ending wouldn’t be good 😊 I guess the author only wrote the happy ending due to the pressure from the readers heh
100% recommend if you like Chinese fantasy (Chinese fantasy books are generally long anyway so this wasn’t exceptionally long for me)

I absolutely loved the C-Drama that is based on this book so I found an English translation on-line. (I absolutely would have purchased an English copy if I had been able to find one.) I didn't love this quite as much as the drama to be honest. For me, the relationship between Ye Xi Wu and TanTai Jin was better balanced in the show, they toned down the angst just a bit and upped the sweetness between them which I personally loved. In the book TanTai Jin acts much more like you would expect a person to act who was born with an evil bone and no emotion or empathy. Super sociopath, very murdery. I found this more believable, but I kind of prefer sweetie TanTai Jin from the drama over the evil book version. 

Overall, not the worst I've ever read: 2.5⭐

Reading this book after watching wrap-up of the drama and one thing I could say is, the drama better doesnt really follow the plot of the novel :( its not that the plot is bad but, I cant bear the angst. My lovly Lulu-Leo need to be happy.

Enemy to lover trope never been this painful. Their existence is to torture each other, so what do you expect other than endless sorrow, disappointment, and resentment. But still... their happiness deserve more than 3 chapter epilogues.

The whole novel includes many sub story. 500 years ago, Prajna floating life, dream land, and 500 years later. The most painful part of all of the sub story is, neither of it contain their happy life as a couple. Either Susu die or Tantai Jin short after releasing each other affection.

Although their hatred toward each is understable, yet Tantai Jin action is too cruel that even he later on realized that his action making Susu as a puppet to kill Xiao Lin is cross the line but everything is too late. Thats why I said their story is endless sorrow.

In the end, I just hope the drama will contain their love story more, give Xiao Lin more justice (and be separated from Bingshang)

I checked this out because of the upcoming live-action, Until the End of the Moon, and because I tend to really like transmitigation stories. I'd also heard it compared favorably to 2ha. The general gist of the story is that a young woman transmitigates into the past to kill the tyrannical demon ruler of the present while he's a seemingly helpless young man; angst ensues.

Unfortunately, this one was a DNF for me. I felt like I was reading a draft and that the author was just tagging ideas on as they were thought up, rather than incorporating them (I was very aware that I was reading a serialized web novel). For example: early on, we're told that Li Susu has to kill Tantai Jin, that's the whole reason she's there in the past. Fairly quickly, she's presented with an opportunity to let Tantai Jin die in a very convenient and hands-off way. But then it's almost like author realized that if Li Susu just did that- the whole thing we'd been told she was there to do- the novel would be over before it starts. So it's dropped that- oh wait, no- Li Susu has to wait to kill him until later, because if she kills him at this point in his life he'll awaken his powers or something. The way it was presented it really just felt like the author realized in that moment and came up with some thing to tack on, rather than going back and coming up with a reason why she can't kill him at that moment from the beginning (like maybe there was a mix up and she transmitigated too early in his life and oh great, now she has to keep him alive long enough to kill him, while not getting emotionally attached)

There was also a lot of time spent describing things that didn't need to be described, while other things that needed more explanation or description were left alone. I also felt like Li Susu's actions and reasoning didn't entirely make sense, and her personality seemed to change depending on what fit the plot better at that moment.

Now that I've said all of that, it's entirely possible I'm being too harsh. I would have kept going if there weren't other novels I was more invested in. I'll likely go back and give this one another try later when I'm in the mood for a dog blood melodrama, so it's staying on my phone for now. (Still looking forward to the drama though)

I’m here after I finished the drama. Till The End of The Moon is my first ever c-drama and I was already amazed by the plot, but then I saw people on social media platforms saying that the novel is better and give it a try. I’m not disappointed at all.

However, I’m saddened by the fact that they butchered LSS character a lot 💔 She is much colder and ruthless to TTJ, and she knows it. She is aware of her ruthlessness, and apologised to him during the tower scene. If I remember correctly, the dialogue in the tower scene in the drama and the novel are different. Imo it was sadder in the novel, she knows she is bad to him and she feels guilty. Plus, it was clear that she exchanged her immortal marrow with his demon marrow not just to stop him from turning into Devil God, but also to lead a righteous life. She has genuine hope for him to do good. 🥹 This reminds me of Mingye and Sang Jiu a lot, when Sang Jiu died and Mingye almost ‘turned evil’. He calmed down and thought, “ Would Sang Jiu be happy if I do this? No, Sang Jiu loves the upright and brave Mingye, and I must continue on living like that “. This extends till their immortal arc, when TTJ transformed into the Devil God, he still lives like that, while being unsure whether LSS loves him or not. I was crying so hard when LSS refuse to believe TTJ and forgot all of her promises she made to him in the dream (?? tbh I can’t remember where it was exactly, but it’s a place made by LSS’s dad, former Devil God for her, to give her “power”/cultivation… something like that?? and where she finds Chongyu Harp).

Not just that, the drama also changed Yue Fuya’s gender into a girl, and made him irrelevant to the plot (probably to keep him out of the way of the main couple) ALTHOUGH!!! his existence is very important for LSS & TTJ relationship. I cried even harder remembering TTJ living as Yue Fuya and be her Daoist partner in the dream, transferring his cultivation to her to heal her. He was doing all that while thinking that LSS’s kind words and affections were for Yue Fuya, while it has always been for him. She knows it since the beginning and does it to play with his feelings, testing how genuine he is. 😭 When they finally almost reach their happy ending in the dream, the dream collapsed and they’re back to reality. The very dream a dying TTJ requested to the nightmare devil, his final wish is simple and it was “ I wish we could’ve met in different circumstances where I could freely love you “ but fate is evil to them. ☹️

I want to say more about the novel, but I think I must stop here or else I won’t stop writing hehehe. To conclude, if you’re not a “ moral police in romance fiction “ you would like this novel! I love that you can see the desperation from both sides fighting for love. ❤️

BEWARE of SPOILER

The story has 131 chapters with 8 extras. It was divided into 3 arcs.

In the first arc, we have Li Susu transmigrating into Ye Xiwu's body. Once her mission was done, she returned to her real body which started the second arc, 500 years after the first arc. The third arc started after 1000 years of the second arc. This time, Li Susu goes by the name Sangjiu.

Basically, the story was about Tantai Jin who will be the Demon Lord. He had an Evil Bone in him which rendered him not having any feeling. He married Ye Xiwu but, because of him, her family end up all dead. Her wish was to save her family and stop Tantai Jin from becoming the Demon Lord. This was when Li Susu transmigrated into Ye Xiwu's body and promised to fulfill her dream.

Tantai Jin had a white moonlight in his heart, Ye Bingchang. But, somehow he started to have feelings for his wife. During an occasion where his brother tried to usurp the throne, Tantai Jin was given a choice, saved his wife or Ye Bingchang and he chose Ye Bingchang thinking that his wife's Shadow Guard will save her. To get to this part, you have to read almost half the book. The groveling started in their second life after Tantai Jin found out that Li Susu was his wife only in a different body.

The book was in the progress of translating and it will take some time. The good news was that it will be adapted into a drama with the title Till The End Of The Moon.

This is the first book I read that was translated from another language. I read it from 2 different sources, the first translation was really good, the second, I am not even sure what was happening for half the tranlation. It is also the first fiction book I've read in several years. I originally read this because I loved the drama that was based off of this novel. This book was surprisingly a lot different from the drama, by that I mean Tantai Jin was a whole different character, an outright villain rather than an anti-hero. But this was definitely a good read and I've never seen such a charecter like Tantai Jin before, I also loved Susu, she has to be one of my favourite MCs, despite being the heroine, she treated everyone the way they deserved, would not mind killing them either. She could be really ruthless, but nothing compared to Tantai Jin, wish we hot to see a lot more of his POV and I loved the extra chapters at the end where we see the originally Devil God envy Xiao Lin and essentially wish Susu luck in making Tantai Jin from the past fall in love with her.

I enjoyed this but it was not well-written LOL. This is a crematorium - endless angst on repeat. I was reminded of SQC while reading. Tantai Jin in the first half was the biggest red flag ever. Susu was way too good for him, and it was like reading about a psychopath's twisted obsession with a smart and likeable heroine. I was very unconvinced about the relationship.

Second half was angst on repeat - the tropes were repetitive: amnesia, misunderstanding and miscommunication, missed chances, and it was like the author just likes writing repetitive misunderstandings. But if you like trashy crematoriums like me, you will probably be entertained and finish the whole thing.

As a romance - way too little sweetness. I felt like the last chapter and the extra about their married life were the only two sweet moments. As a story - entertaining but way too draggy.

Had I not watched the drama beforehand and known what I was getting myself into, I may not have been able to finish this one. Novel Tantai Jin is one seriously messed up dude. 😂 At times I loved him, at times I wanted to kick (or kill) him just like Susu.

Novel Susu is also... verrrry different from the show's heroine, wow.

It was a thrill to revisit these characters and story from the drama, though. I loved seeing what was the same and what had been changed (to pass censorship lol). I still adore LSS and TTJ, and it was satisfying to read the complete ending vs the drama's open finale.

Might be a while before I tackle another Chinese novel. 😂

This book has a lot of triggers so if you're sensitive, I wouldn't recommend.

To start off, I loved this book because of how realistically toxic it is. There were many chapters I went back to reread.

Main character the devil king, Tantai Jin is not your average anti-hero. He is a straight psycho, very unapologetic, has no empathy and can't relate or have an understanding of human feelings. His only goal in life is to rise to the top to become the most powerful so that he can stomp on everyone and everything. Nothing else matters.

If Tantai Jin's goal is to rule the world, our female character, Susu's goal is to prevent him from getting to that point of being so powerful that even the gods and goddesses feared him. She is sent back to a time before the devil king was awaken and has to remove his evil bone. The playout of how it happens and what goes down in the earlier chapters were entertaining to read.

Towards the middle part, the novel does get heavier and more intense to where some readers may feel uncomfortable with the actions of Tantai Jin. However he does redeem himself a lot and starts to understand exactly how Susu wants to be loved and how to love correctly without wanting to own the person you care about.

Nội dung cũng khá cuốn. Vì tò mò nên khi xem mấy tập đầu t liền tìm truyện và đọc một lèo hết luôn =) Tình tiết mà t thích nhất là ở chương gần cuối của truyện khi Lê Tô Tô và Đạm Đài Tẫn đều lựa chọn quyên sinh vì chúng sinh. Hi vọng cảnh này lên phim sẽ được quay đẹp và bi tráng!

Ngoài lề xíu, OST của phim rất hay, trong đó t thích nhất một câu trong bài Hắc Nguyệt Quang: "Ta mong sau này dù người có mang theo vết sẹo, cũng thử sống dịu dàng một phen" ~

A well put love story with a neat blend of fantasy.

Though the English transcript was a bit crude, it didn't hinder the essence of the novel much. Didn't want to give any spoilers but the epilogue kind of chapters (I think 131 - 138) at the end of the novel tied up all the loose ends and gave a clean closure for most characters.

The lead characters were built so good, very manipulative and contradictory in their views and goals but still a perfect match for each other, complementing their nature.

It was one good read! :)

I read this novel because I’d watched the drama Till The End of The Moon. The drama is better but it has bad ending, and the novel has happy ending

So literally watch the drama and find the heal from the novel ending

it's worth to read if you like dog blood drama, sometimes it's so painful to read their experiences, like their existence is to torture each other. i was wondering if they could really be happy together and how the author will whitewash these couple.

Tearjerking moments--the clam princess and ming ye's story and her jumping off the wall. i don't think I've cried so much for a while when reading a story especially with the clam dream.

i have not finished the whole thing because the translation is not complete.
