Oh dear lord that was horrible. This volume was just one long battle, the battle has been going on for more than two volumes. It just is not interesting. The battle is also being narrated by Master's old power? Just glorifying the villain in the most annoying way possible. I might as well just be reading the main My Hero Academia book. This story seems to be taking all the wrong lessons from the main book. The city is already full of pro-Heroes that could end this fight and destruction of property and death of bystanders in seconds. But no all we have is this dumb kid fighting an All-Might level bad guy. I mean if the good guys can set up an ambush there was enough time for the Pro-Heroes to do something to end this war.
Pop Step is still in a coma, I guess as she never appears in this volume. The gang appears for a page or two. But are just used for filler. The old dude they call Master does appear but it is just a few pages and (spoilers) he might have just died, again? It really feels like the creative team ran out of ideas. Because this Manga shined when it was just the gang helping people and accumulating friends. But instead we get a "Darker Gritter" story that was already kind of dark and gritty since the characters were Vigilantes. But much like Batman the creative team is obsessed with making the story darker and grittier. Sigh
One more volume of the story and we are done. I never thought this story would end so badly that I was cheering for the final volume.
I've been working on reading this throughout the day and I don't think anything can really account for how much I've been screaming this entire time other than that I need you take my word for it. For all that we're still mid-conflict in this climactic final fight, there is some major info that gets dropped here, and I'm losing my mind over it. I'll throw it under a spoiler tag, just in the event anyone needs it but ho DAMN boy!
Honestly the reason this story works so damn well is how personal it is. It’s epic only because of how much we care about the characters and DAMN does this volume deliver the EMOTION!
Woah. One minute I was picking up this volume, the next I had reached the final page. I devoured this volume in one sitting, barely taking a single breath because so much was happening! My mind was blown by big reveals, my heart singing at a character finally returning, and the fight that ensued between the Crawler and Number 6 was intense and dicey!
This series really ties in well with the main story. It gives background and more information on the 'big bad' villain who terrorises All Might and the U.A. kids in the main story, and his plans. How his Nomus were created, how they became such monstrous forms with big capabilities and destructive powers. My jaw was on the floor as Number 6 kept evolving into something completely inhuman. It was both intriguing and terrifying.
With every volume, I adore Koichi more and more. He's honestly one of the best well-rounded and powerful characters, with a heart of gold and a good head on his shoulders. I cannot fault him, I utterly adore him. Whilst he's changed and developed over the series, fighting for his life and to save the lives of others, he's still the sweet, oblivious young man we first met. He's definitely one of my favourite characters from the MHA franchise.
I'm still absorbing what I read as I write this review, since I sped through it so quickly. It was one big fight so it was easy to get through, but my mind was blown and my heart tugged and squeezed, and I am both very excited and scared to pick up the final volume. This is a prequel series to MHA, and I'm worried about the fate of some of the characters - one in particular was left pretty uncertain, since only a handful of characters (mostly pro-heroes) make appearances in the main series.
I feel like I'm repeating myself, but this was such a good volume. The story was well paced, I was kept on my toes and completely sucked in until the last page. I have to know what happens from here. How will this series end? How will its story link to the main series, if at all? All questions I need answered.

Well, this volume is just a lot of action shots, so it's a quick and easy read. The villain's abilities are just silly at this point, with constant and nonsensical escalations in power. I mean, Overclock on its own is already unrealistic (even accounting for the magic nature of Quirks) because thinking faster is only going to speed up one's movements and actions just so much; the body has a finite capacity for motion no matter how much your thoughts race. So that was always silly. Now, what with all the mutations and shit, I guess there's some explanation for it but...yeah. It was a stretch back then and now it's all just mindless powerups and "final" moves being thrown one after another at Koichi. Only one volume left, so I assume we're coming up on a rushed ending, but I can't get the last book from my library yet so there's a good chance I'll never get around to finishing this series.
Alexa, play "Mama Said Knock You Out." ... DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK!!! Man is it good to see him back in action! We've missed him since Volume 5!
But yeah, in the continuing trend of having Numba 6 be the walking Expy-machine, there was a particular panel where he was posed very similar to an iconic shot of Knull, the god of the Symbiotes from Marvel, and so I realize this funky shape-shifting dude, primarily in black and having a more grotesque xenomorph-like appearance, is ALSO sorta Venom, maybe Agent Venom since he smuggles guns and explosives within his goop. BUT THEN HE GOES FURTHER and becomes a skeleton wreathed in energy so on the Western side, that's very Atomic Skull and Blight from Batman Beyond, but on the manga side, that's very Susano as Sasuke Uchiha makes em. The end is nigh, and I cannot wait to see how the story of our favorite donut-boy finishes up.
- all of no.6 different versions in this volume are insane but also incredibly cool - i really like the hi-crawler design the most though - i like that after the few years of dealing with the naruhata instant villains that koichi is so accustomed to thinking on his feet that all that experience has culminated into killer instinct when fighting against no.6 like koichi you are so fucking cool - KNUCKLEDUSTER RAHHHH - knuckleduster about to sacrifice himself and soga pulling up to the fight!!! - did koichi even see knuckleduster there with soga??? - so the o'clock apparition is just afo?? will he ever rack off - finally the press pulling up to the naruhata lockdown - no.6 big guy fighting style looks like star and stripe's tiamat form - koichi seeing an apparation of knuckleduster? - the crawler: knuckle style
Epic chase scene between Koichi and Number 6. The both of them just keep evolving into new forms. All the while, their masters are whispering in their ear. Koichi seems to have combined his style and grandpa fists’ style (beating ass with his bare hands) and I think he’s gonna go on the offensive now?
Grandpa Fist makes his return cause he’s awesome even though my man should really be resting. He tried to do the hero thing, but Soga was having none of it. I really hope he’s ok.
I just want all of them to be happy and healthy tbh. Let’s see how this ends!
Koichi faces off against Number 6 for the final time, with some assistance from his Master. The story's barrelling towards a conclusion, and I don't think it's going to be a happy ending for everyone. Very emotional stuff, with your typical 'you haven't even seen my final form!!!!' from the villains. Just what I wanted.
What a heart pounding volume! All action....all volume! That is Dragon Ball Z level constant fighting and evolution. The dialogue is a little lighter but the panels are beautiful and the payoff battle is something to appreciate with multiple readings. It's Number #6 vs. Crawler.....TO THE MAX! Definitely a great volume with some great revelations.
The full pages of action shots make this a very quick read but the whole sequence is starting to drag. This must have been miserable to wait for weekly publications. The high points are still good but overall this is a weak volume.
They really building up to break my heart aren't they? Also they eventually showed Aizawa there for a second but where the f*** did Jeanist and Edgeshot go?! All the bombs in the sky and they're just MIA?!
