I binge read this series. I didn't really like book #1, but gave the author a second chance and liked book #2 and moved to 3, then 4, then 5. Although none of them hit the high note for me, I did like series as a whole. Leah Nash got on my nerves early on but somewhat matured during the series. It definitely felt like a soap opera with mature people acting out teen drama and angst during lots of the series which is a negative for me. There are some good twists but each book feels like it ends incomplete in a see you next time for more drama and murder. I love solid epilogues and this isn't a series for that.

"I know you can't always get what you want, but is it really fair of the universe to give you exactly what you don't want instead?"

Dangerous Flaws is a fast-paced mystery with an ending that is both astonishing and heartbreaking. All good mysteries have the whodunit aspect as the main theme, but Dangerous Flaws jazzes up that theme with memorable characters and witty dialogue. While this book is the fifth in this Leah Nash Mystery series, it can easily stand alone. But after such a fun story, I will definitely be heading backwards and reading those first four books.

Leah Nash doesn't mess around when murder hits the small town of Himmel, Wisconsin. The action starts on page one and continues to heat up when the list of murder suspects keeps getting longer. The author adeptly keeps up the guessing game all the way to the end, but even if you figure it out (I didn't), the story is too well crafted and completely entertaining not to enjoy every last bit of it.

The characters are what make the book. As the protagonist, Leah is both funny and flawed, and she knows it, but that just serves to makes her all the more likable and convincing as a realistic person who just wants to get to the bottom of the entire mystery. After heading down multiple rabbit holes and ticking off a lot people in the process, Leah finally starts putting the pieces together. As a publisher of a small-town paper and as a budding true-crime author, Leah is no stranger to splashy headlines and dramatic plot twists. But when the danger hits too close to home, Leah doesn't back down. Oh no, this girl is tenacious to a fault and has more than enough spunk, bravado, and witty one liners to keep her going and keep the reader riveted.

All the characters are well developed, intriguing, and lively, but Miguel is definitely a favorite. He is Leah's editor at the paper, a great friend to pretty much about everyone, and completely endearing.

One aspect that I hope will continue to play out in the next book(s) is Leah's relationship with Gabe because it's a sweet romance, but also because maybe there is more than meets the eye when it comes to Leah's long-time best friend, Coop. Maybe? Is there some friction there? Jealously perhaps? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Either way, if you are into quick-witted mysteries with enticing plots and brilliant characters that shake up the imagination and keep you on your toes, then Dangerous Flaws, and no doubt the entire series, should definitely be on your to-read list.

I think I've read all of the Leah Nash mysteries and they just keep getting better. Nash is my kind of protagonist. She is quick to be irritating people with her intense investigation into a murder. She's pushy when she knows people are lying. She's relentless when she thinks she's on the right trail. While she ultimately solves the mystery, she takes a few wrong paths to get there.

The plot for this mystery was a bit complex. There were plenty of red herrings that kept me wondering who the murderer was. I like that I was made aware of clues right along with Nash. It made me feel like I was there with her her, trying to identify the culprit.

I like that Hunter gave me a good mix of character development and plot movement. I feel like I am really getting to know Nash and her passion. I like the relationship issues Hunter included in this novel. Family loyalties and protection were explored through the actions of several characters.

I recommend this novel to readers who like a well designed mystery with well crafted characters. Much of the plot in this novel hangs on Hunter's previous book in the Nash series. While this book could be read on its own, readers would enjoy it more if the previous one in the series had been read first.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Dangerous Flaws is the 5th book in the Leah Nash Mysteries. I read this as a standalone, however, I’m now hooked and plan to go back and start at book one.

This is a bit of a complex mystery, which is fantastic, because I had no idea who the murderer was. I found out each clue as Leah did, which made me feel like her partner! There were many red herrings, which kept me guessing and I was surprised in the end when the reveal came. What more can you ask for from a mystery?

Susan Hunter is fabulous at character development as well. As this is the 5th book, there is still so much character development. I was easily able to get to know the characters even though I was jumping in five books later.

I recommend checking this series out. If the rest of the books are as good as this one, I think this will be a real treat of a mystery series to get into!

I like to ask myself: If this book was an animal, what animal would it be and why? I think Dangerous Flaws by Susan Hunter would be a greyhound, for its fast pace and sleek prose. It would have to be a dog because there are so many dogs referenced it is difficult to keep track of them all. None of them are greyhounds. None of them are cats, either, although in my opinion every book can be enhanced with the addition of a cat. In spite of its catlessness, Dangerous Flaws is a winner. The book stars Leah Nash, who reminds me a little of Kinsey Milhone, the stoic star of Sue Grafton’s alphabet mysteries. Leah has Kinsey’s independence and tenacity, especially when faced with a mystery to solve. Unlike Kinsey, Leah is not a professional detective, she is a true crime author and newspaper owner who assists local lawyers and police with their investigations.

Greyhounds win races, and Dangerous Flaws turns into a race to see whether Leah will overcome her own blindness to find the murderer before they strike too close to home. As with any series set in a small town, the idea that the per capita murder rate would approach pet-ownership levels is absurd, but as with any other lover of good fiction, this never seems to bother me that much. It’s always a different world we step into when we open the cover and start reading. Dangerous Flaws is set in Himmel, Wisconsin, a small town in the middle of nowhere, in early spring. I loved the way the setting was invoked throughout Ms. Hunter’s book, as a consummate host and counterpoint to the myriad of colorful characters. From a flamboyant Hispanic editor to a greyhound-like tight-lipped academic, the cast of Dangerous Flaws is typically American, in particular Midwestern, and together they form a compelling picture of semi-cosmopolitan twenty-first century life in a vibrant yet circumscribed community. It’s one intimately familiar and abundantly satisfying to me.

That’s probably where the comparison breaks down. I would imagine greyhounds are snooty animals, more at home in a private viewing box wearing chintz and civilized silk and picking at the crudité bar, whereas the Dangerous Flaws characters come into themselves at a cheeseburger-special blue-plate bar without any pretense of haute coutre or noveaux cuisine. Thankfully, the raging trend toward billionaire scions that stalks the romance genre has not infiltrated the cozy mystery one. And, Dangerous Flaws is more on the cozy side than the gritty side, more café than roadhouse. It’s a wonderful mix of gripping investigation and compelling characterization with snappy dialog and unobtrusive description. Don’t hesitate to pick up Ms. Hunter’s series for a fulfilling daytime read. Five stars!

Bait and switch, sleight of hand, and mind-boggling plot twists accompanied my initiation into the Leah Nash mysteries and Himmel, Wisconsin—a small town with a high murder rate!

When a local academic is murdered and the police are closing in on her ex-husband/ex-boyfriend, Nick, as the killer, Leah knows they are looking in the wrong direction. But how does she convince them of this?

Not without proof, and “consulting” on Nick’s legal defense gives her the avenues, if not the access, to ask the hard questions. But Leah has to ask herself the hard questions first. Nick is an ex for reason—he’s a consummate liar—and his endless lies about his whereabouts the night someone killed Laurel Sheridan only aid the police in their case against him.

Though her confidence takes a few knocks and bangs, Leah perseveres even when her judgment is clouded.

Leah is surrounded by some great folks in Himmel, with managing editor, Miguel, being my favorite, and they’re all a great support network for Leah. The exceptions to this are Courtnee and Andrea and I wonder why/how either of them are in Himmel. Sherry Young also isn’t a friend, but her brash exterior hides a heartbreaking story.

But it’s going to indirectly take most of Leah’s tribe to solve the murder of Laurel Sheridan. There is no direct path to the killer, but bits of old files and remembrances of prior conversations… and plain old curiosity gives Leah a lead to an angle she, nor anyone else could have imagined.

Coming into the series at book 5 puts me at a loss on much of Leah’s backstory, but I found her intrusive and controlling. To be fair, she was told this more a few times by those around her and she’s trying to reform… with missteps.

But a good investigative journalist has to be intrusive… and nosy, to turn and flip the pieces of the puzzle until they fit together. I may not be in love with her personality, but Leah Nash is a puzzle master and her dogged determination not only solves one murder but two others.

Dangerous Flaws is a page-turner. Is it the Father? Son? The scorned co-worker? Or is Nick Gallagher lying yet again and is the real killer? Download this read today.

Enjoy!

Leah Nash can't help but get involved when her ex husband, Nick Gallagher is the prime suspect in a murder case. Nick is a lot of things - including a liar and a cheater - but murderer? Leah can't see it. Which means investigating. That little thing she likes to do best.

This was good. A little rushed in parts - at times I felt like my head was going to explode at the speed the narrative went at - but it was good. Action packed and full of suspense, danger and lots of mystery.

I love that Leah and Miller buy the newspaper. Frankly, with the way Leah runs it - she should make it a newspaper/detective agency. Offer their services and get paid twice over for the investigating. And I love that Allie Ross works there now. I hope she takes on a bigger role in future books.

As for the rest of the cast of characters - I adore Charlie Ross. The love hate relationship him and Leah have is hilarious. I liked the new additions of Troy and Maggie. Miguel, of course, is a stylish favourite and Courtnee always cracks me up. The friendship/potential romantic relationship with Coop/Leah is still weird. But I didn't completely hate the romance with Gabe. I mean, I wouldn't say I liked it - but it was okay. Nick was his usual ridiculous self. He's become rather funny now that Leah isn't actually trying to be in a relationship with him. It was amusing seeing him justify his lies and affairs.

I wasn't entirely thrilled with the ending but it worked.

A fast paced action filled murder mystery. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars.

Dangerous Flaws by Susan Hunter is one of those novels that you just want to keep on reading, my hubby actually read it first and liked it.

Leah Nash is a true crime writer that lives in Himmel Wisconsin, I live in Wisconsin even though the town is fictitious, at least I think it is, could not find it on a map or a google search. That is one of the reasons I wanted to read the book, I could relate to small-town life.

So on to the story, Leah is surprised when, while investigating the murder of a young college professor that the police are focused on her ex-husband, Nick, as the suspect. She knows his flaws and that he is a liar but she does not think that murder is one of his flaws. She agrees to help Nick's lawyer, Gabe, and prove that he did not do it.

There is another death and she knows that she needs to find the murderer pretty quick. She finds hidden motives and has to strip away lies and there are twists and turns that she never expected. Can she find the murderer? Well on that you will have to read the book.

Hubby at first said that it took him a bit to get into it but I didn't find that as a problem. I got into it right away, loved the characters, especially Leah and Miguel. The plot was interesting and intriguing and kept my attention from start to finish. I love good mysteries and this one is a good one. I highly recommend it and suggest you go get a copy!

Susan Hunter's fifth offering in the Leah Nash crime thriller series is as good as all those leading up to it. This time, Leah sets out to help clear her ex-husband, Nick, who is accused in the drowning of a college professor. Leah knows Nick is a liar and a cheater, but she doesn't believe he's capable of murder. The authorities believe otherwise, however. Unless Leah and her usual cast of close friends can again work their investigative magic, Nick is going away for a long time. Leah is busier than ever as a successful true crime novelist, the new owner and publisher of her hometown newspaper and a volunteer investigator for defense lawyer Gabe. How she can meet all those demands plus find time to help clear Nick borders on the unrealistic. But as we've seen before, Leah is just short of Super Woman. Fueled by Jameson and relying heavily on her amazing intuition, she often finds a way to deliver and it wouldn't be smart to count her out. She is not above relying on the help of close friends, such as Coop, a childhood friend and cop; Miguel, newspaper coworker; Ross, another cop, and Gabe, defense attorney and lover. New characters, such as April, a shy newspaper receptionist, and Bram, troubled brother of Gabe, keep the story fresh. Plenty of twists, turns and surprises await the reader on the way to another satisfying conclusion.

This series keeps getting better!

Dangerous Flaws opens with an intense prologue that immediately sucked me in. I was right there with the characters, totally committed, from start to finish.

Susan Hunter excels at pacing and creating a multi-layered story. We have mystery and suspense, humor, and a tangle of relationships that had me giggling and gasping. I enjoyed the interplay with the characters as much as I enjoyed solving the mystery.

Leah Nash is a fun, realistic character. She isn’t a superhero, nor is she a weak-kneed female waiting to be rescued. She’s stubborn and opinionated, yet also funny and kind and happily independent. She screws up, like we all do, but then does her best to make things right.

The whodunit had me guessing right to the very end. Just when I thought things would go one way, we took a surprise turn. This isn’t at all a predictable mystery.

While this is the fifth book in the series, it could easily be read as a stand-alone. Susan Hunter does an excellent job of weaving in backstory from the previous books, so new readers have a sense of the relationship dynamics.

Leah Nash is a reporter for the local newspaper. When she learns that her ex is being charged with murder she decides to look into the case. But the more she starts to learn the more she thinks that her ex might have committed the murder and starts to question herself. But she not going to let this stop her and keeps digging for the truth.

This is a great mystery that had me on my toes. There were several twists and turns and just when I think I might know who the killer really was I had the rug pulled out from under me. Leah could get on my nerves but I did like her. She is determined to find the truth no matter who she makes mad.

This book does link back to the series so I think you could read it without the other books but you will enjoy it more with the back stories. I really enjoyed this book and recommend checking it out. I’m really curious to see what Leah gets into next.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

I adore Susan Hunter's Leah Nash Mysteries. Every book is jam-packed with suspense and tension, danger, deeply delineated characters, and the hardrock passion for uncovering truth possessed by driven investigative journalist (now true crime author) Leah Nash. Leah's newspaper, The Himmel Times, is now co-owned by Lisa and her landlord, Miller, local attorney and man of wealth. Following the open house for the newspaper, a college professor disappears while walking her beloved dog Tennyson, whose return home alerts the victim's husband, also a professor. Eventually the missing woman is discovered, but investigating her case will take Leah down some very rough emotional paths and cast her frequently in danger as well as into conflict with those for whom she cares most. Always a page-turner, DANGEROUS FLAWS keeps readers pinned to the edge of their seats.

DANGEROUS FLAWS, the fifth book in the Leah Nash mystery series, is brilliant, compelling, and a terrific follow-up story to DANGEROUS SECRETS.

No spoilers, but I was deliciously chilled by the mystery's resolution. The clues were all there (some having been laid in the previous book, but you didn't have to read that one to know what was going on in this one). Susan Hunter just keeps getting better and better at setting the stage and bringing closure to her mysteries.

No doubt about it, DANGEROUS FLAWS is going on my keeper shelf with my other re-readable books penned by such masters of the genre as Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, and Dorothy L. Sayers, and I'm waiting with bated breath for the next installment in the Leah Nash series.

This is my first book in the Leah Nash Mystery Series - and WOW! I can't wait to get my hands on the first four to get more of the backstory. I'm not a fan of starting a series unless I can from book one; but the blurb grabbed ahold of me. The entire flow of the story from the setting to the mystery to characters -- it's all strong! Leah's strength and forward-looking attitude are shaken when she has to confront an assortment of flaws from her past, including her ex-husband. I would have liked to have a little more background on a few aspects of the mystery that came up; but once everything pulled together, I connected the dots. Such a strong, intriguing read!

We’re back with some of our friends from the newspaper. It seems as if there’s always a bit of drama there.

Leah Nash is back chasing down some of the drama while managing to create more.

Small towns aren’t usually known for murders, especially multiple ones.

Are the flaws in Leah and her ex dangerous? They’re definitely dangerous in some of the town’s other inhabitants.

I always enjoy Leah Nash mysteries, and hold a special place in my heart for her lovable friend, Miguel. He’s one smart cookie.

I’m looking forward to another dangerous Leah Nash Mystery. Don’t ever quit writing, Ms Hunter.

This book was a great read. Leah Nash, a likeable, no-nonsense heroine, battles conflicting feelings as she tries to solve a murder – could the man she had once loved be capable of murder? This latest installment in the series has a very intricate plot with two separate murder investigations underway. The red herrings and intriguing twists kept me wondering, and the final resolution came as a surprise. The clues may have been there, but I didn’t see it coming. A fast-paced, interesting and enjoyable read.

There are a handful of series that I regularly read and the Leah Nash Mysteries is one of my favorite series to read. Dangerous Flaws is the fifth book in the series and it was an exciting addition to the series. The mystery is this book definitely kept me guessing and I definitely did not see the murderer being the person it was in the end. I loved the book from start to finish and the writing was great throughout the entire book.

I am curious as to what is going to happen with Leah and Coop and I cannot wait to read more about all of these characters I have grown to love. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series and discovering what other mysteries there will be in the town of Himmel, Wisconsin. Although I would have bought a copy of this book either way, I received an advance review copy of this book at no cost.

Very good series

I've read all 5 of the journalist Leah Nash mystery series (#6 coming out this Fall), and found each one to be very entertaining. The main character is quirky, stubborn, makes quite a few blunders, and frequently gets on the nerves of nearly everyone. But she's all about finding the facts and discovering 'whodunit'. The endings are always a surprise that you never see coming. Well-written, complicated plots, and very painstakingly edited. This author has me hooked!

Really enjoying this series. - and the character growth of the main character. Still stubborn and impulsive, but no longer teetering on the edge of too stupid/hard-headed to live. Supporting 'cast' is excellent as always.
For those who may be picking up this book without reading any of the others, I recommend you start with book 1 and read them in order. You will miss too much of too many characters' backstories - some elements of which apply to this mystery. It will be worth it!

Back to Himmel, Wisconsin and Leah Nash, now owner of The Himmel Times. A story that very much continues from where its predecessor left off sees Leah's ex accused of murder. A well written investigation linking with the murder of her former editor Rebecca from the previous instalment is also accompanied by some fleshing out of the personalities of the main characters. Unusually I actually guessed the culprit early, but despite that the close knit group of characters keep the reader engrossed to the end.

Not always right

I read five Leah Nash books. I stuck with the series out of curiosity to see if Leah ever "grew up". I found her character to be tiresome and her always right attitude despite the consequences to be frustrated and not entertaining. Kudos for her approach to connecting the clues to event be right. But ever be dammed if she didn't like what you had to say.

Leah Nash/great series

I've binge read these books and appreciate that Leah, newspaper reporter turned true crime writer and murder investigator is rarely on the right track, but keeps plugging away till she solves the mystery. She's flawed but very likeable. Read this series. Hope there are a lot more books. I love the supporting characters too!

I really liked this book! It kept me guessing from the minute I started till the mystery was solved. It also tied up some loose ends from previous books. I didn’t see the ending coming and who the killer was. Which the author did a great job leading you one way and twisting and turning things until the end! Can’t wait for the next book in the series!!

Dangerous Flaws by Susan Hunter

Excellent storyline and quite riveting crime thriller. The identity of the final perpetrator of multiple murders was completely unexpected, to say the least. I liked the way the author portrayed multiple, plausible alternatives each of which was very logical on its own. Waiting to read the next one in Leah Nash series.
