Technology complicates everything, including love.

Five years ago, Jo Harper did a bad thing. Dumped, injured, and in crippling debt, Jo did what any desperate woman with a PhD in psychology and above-average computer skills would: become an elite, undetectable online romance scammer. Now Jo and her team of four young women bring in enough cash to keep them securely afloat. Their targets? Married cheaters.

Jamie March, Bay Area royalty known as “The Conscience of Silicon Valley,” hates every aspect of online crime, especially those who defraud people. And when it appears that his brother is the victim of a sophisticated romance scam, he can’t stand idly by.

What’s weird though, is that when Jo and Jamie meet…they don’t hate one another. Not at all. He makes her laugh and feel alive again. She challenges his intellect like no other. But they can’t trust one another, right? And you can’t fall in love with someone you don’t trust—or can you?

3.5 stars. Parts weren’t as good as the first book, but this still ended up being an enjoyable read. I really like the way that this author writes her MCs. So far, both heroines have been smart, strong, independent women who didn’t really need a man to be successful. The heroes have both been devoted and good hearted… just genuinely good guys.

My biggest complaint about this book was that the heroine made some really poor decisions when getting to know the hero. I couldn’t understand why she would jeopardize everything she worked so hard for… she was extremely careless. Thankfully, her carelessness didn’t really end up damaging anything. But it was still frustrating to read.

Safe; no virgins, heroine celibate 9 months, hero celibate 6, no cheating, no om/ow drama, no scenes with om/ow.

I just can't. I kept reading until the 49% mark and tried to speed through, but it's just not worth it. I loved the first book so much. The tension was there, I loved the characters. This book has no tension and the characters keep acting dumb.

This woman is supposed to be a grifter, but she makes the most ridiculous mistakes. For instance, she gives her real name and email address to some dude. It turns out he’s the brother of an almost victim. She does so many dumb things that just don’t make me excited to read about a grifter. She’s a little Robin Hood like, but all the stupid stuff makes it so not fun. The first absolutely ridiculously OTT stupid thing she does is run her grifting business in the airport. Like, they rely on laptops and cell phones and selfies, etc. and the whole crew are loudly and openly talking about their marks, reading their potential emails to each other, and taking selfies. The hero overhears them and knows something is up. But why would the author include that!? This is sensitive stuff. You shouldn’t be talking out in the open. It’s just SO DUMB! And she (and her crew) continue to make stupid choices throughout that made me crazy.

Add to her stupidity, his instalust and constant “you’re just so beautiful” and I just CANNOT continue reading this book.

I liked that I got to see Roz, Max, and Tess from the first book for some cameos. But I just don’t have the patience to read this book.

Add to this all, the hero quotes her favorite book. Pride and prejudice. NO HE DOES’NT!!! He quotes the 2005 movie adaptation. I can’t even. If an author is going to use such a common book as a favorite, the least she can do is make sure the quote is actually from the book!

Jo lost everything after her break up with her ex. Add in damaging her leg and she was out of options to make money. So she took to scamming the gullible online. Romance scamming - but she only goes after the married cheaters - they get what they deserve in her opinion

Now she runs a honeytrap service with few rules except no politicians and no-one famous. But oh dear one of her "girls" tried to use her initiative and now she is in deep, deep trouble - with the son of a billionaire no less. Worse she gave her real information - not that of her alias!

When Jo finally has a meet-cute of her own she quickly realises that Jamie is actually the brother of the a$$ and an actual nice guy who tries to get the internet policed for ethics. Now that Jamie knows exactly what's been going on and how his brother was targeted - will he bring Jo and company down or will this knight in shining tech be her saviour?

Absolute delight. Really enjoyed book one and have been waiting on tenterhooks for this! Really enjoyed Jo and her band of honeys! Jamie is such a nice guy you wonder how on Earth he's related to he who shall not be named!

I managed to receive an ARC from the publisher Tule and I have decided to leave this review of my own volition.

Between ending her relationship with her boyfriend and being unable to work Jo found herself in a dire situation. Desperate times called for desperate measures, so she created a business targeting married men who weren’t honoring their marriage vows and works within a strict set of rules. Thing were going well until one of her employees bent the rules and now they have attracted attention they don’t want.

Jamie believes that the internet should be safe for everyone, so he isn’t happy to find out that his brother has been targeted. He met Jo by chance, but once he realizes who she is and how they are connected will he pursue his quest for justice or follow his heart?

The banter between them was entertaining, the attraction between them intense and the storyline is unlike anything you have experienced before.

So right now I am kicking myself for missing out on fitting the first book in this series in when it came out. Because this book was soooooooooo good! I loved it! It had the laughs, but it also had the emotions and the snarkiness and the wonderful plot that kept me invested and reading as quickly as I could.

All of the characters had such great parts in the story. But I also liked how real I felt their interactions and reactions to situations were. Jo and Jamie were perfect for each other. Even though they knew they should stay away from the other one, because of what that person might or might not be doing or be able to do to their family, or their career/livelihood, or how much maybe what they did was so opposite of their own life, they couldn’t seem to resist talking or spending time with each other. And it was done perfectly. A lot of times in books it might seem as if they are stretching and forcing it, but not this one. I was waiting and wanting them to reach out to each other, not to mention bereft when one didn’t, or excited when that surprise contact happened.

The characters from the first book weren’t major parts of this story, just someone living in the same building as Jo and I loved how they all fit together. Not to mention the little old lady in the building that I’ll bet was a blast in the first book as well.

I think I’ve found another author that I can’t wait to read as soon as I can get my hands on another book!

Scammer Girl by Michelle Dayton is one of those books that is a pleasure to read. It is not very often that a scammer/cheat is taken down by another scammer. Jo has a team of four young women who scam the married cheaters. With not a lot of options, Jo has a PhD in psychology and above-average computer skills, she is hurt from a breakup and decides to start up her company to make ends meet, five years later she is successful. Then she meets Jamie March. Jamie despises anyone who is involved in online crime. His brother falls victim to an online romance scam. Turns out that he is in love with one of Jo's girls. Thus starts a love/hate relationship between Jo and Jamie, she does not trust him, but it is hard when her heart becomes involved.

Written well, with a wonderful love story that blooms into a hardcore relationship, but there is always the trust angle. Jo does not trust easily, and Jamie has been hurt before. Can the two of them get together? You have to read the book!

Scammer Girl is a fun enjoyable read, I don't often read romance stories, but this one sounded intriguing. I will have to go and read the first book in the Tech-nically series. I read it in a few sittings and really enjoyed it! I give it 4 stars!

For some reason, I held off on reading this one even though it's the second book in the series. I think I thought I might not like it, but I was really very wrong. This was formidable. I have to admit that the reviewers talking about a really stupid thing Jo did at the start of the book are absolutely right, but I could overlook it to enjoy the rest of the story.

There were a lot less angsty feelings in this one (still pretty angsty, the others are just extreme). I think this one also has a bit more of a focus on the romance, which I really enjoyed.

I'm glad I read Escape Girl first, because the content in this book is a small part of the mystery in the third book. Escape Girl needed that mystery more than this one did to succeed.

Jo is one excellent scammer, but she also nurses a tender heart that has been broken. She turned to this profession in desperation when her boyfriend tossed her out when she needed emergency medical care, lost her job and was laughed at by her only living relative, an uncle who raised her without any love.
Jamie is a tech guru who crusades for ethical behavior in the tech world. They meet in a bar after one of Jo’s employees goes rogue with the wrong person, and they have interests in common. He sees her and the other women at the airport the next day.
The sparks fly in every direction–we keep waiting for something awful to happen. This adds suspense to the story, and it is fun to watch how the author keeps all the balls in the air–which she does with grace and wit.
Unusual topic and characters, Hero and Heroine a bit older, all a hit with me.
I received an ARC for free from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.

What can I say, well-written, cleverly plotted, engaging characters and a few twists along the way.

Jo Harper was destitute after breaking up with her long-term boyfriend and snapping her Achilles heel. Homeless and broke, she resorted to online romance scamming; although she sits in a grey area because she only scams married men who are cheating. Now five years later she has a team of four women and a unique concept; her mark meets the girl, but once only in some kind of engineered meet-cute, designed to appeal specifically to the mark. Thereafter they engage via texts and emails, with maybe an occasional video chat - so the guys can't be being scammed because they met the girl right? She has some rules, no politicians or politics adjacent and no-one famous, but that still leaves lots of rich cheating guys who are happy to buy a girl a diamond ring or stump up her college tuition.

Then on a mark fishing trip to California, Sloan, one of Jo's team, tries to use her initiative, picks on the son-in-law of a high-profile, relentless, tech billionaire and follows through rather clumsily, revealing true information about herself, instead of a carefully curated persona.

Beyond peeved at Sloan's mistake, Jo goes to drown her sorrows at a local dive bar where she meets a cute guy. They get to talking and are really getting along, when Jo realises from some things he said that he is the mark's older brother, Jamie March, a famous campaigner for ethical internet behaviour. He saw his brother with Sloan and is mightily angry that his brother is risking his marriage. Sloan has put the entire operation in jeopardy, she's gone after a famous family of tech experts and she's been seen. Not only that, at the airport while discussing the disaster with the girls and how to rectify the issue Jo realises that Jamie has been watching and listening to their conversation. Now he knows its a scam and he's seen all the girls.

But with righteous indignation warring with instant attraction can the grifter and the white knight find romance?

Loved it, loved it, loved it.

I was given a free copy of this book from the publisher Tule in return for an honest review.

Bumped for release and to fix some truly awful howlers.

A fast-paced opposites attract romance.

This was such a fun book to read. I never would have thought the pairing of a romance scammer with a straight-laced computer guru millionaire would work, but this author made it work really well. There were parts that made me laugh, some emotional parts and everything in between. I really liked the chemistry between Jo and Jamie and how Jo’s employees became more like family, there no matter what. Jamie was the same way with his family. He would do anything for them which ultimately caused a big problem between him and Jo. But with a little luck and a little scheming, they were able to find their happily ever after.

Meh

Book one of the series was so good, I read it multiple times.
This book I almost shelved. The beginning was agonizing and slow. It honestly took a lot of effort to understand it.
I hung in simply because I had faith in the author to produce something worth reading.
Once Jamie shows up in NOLA it gets better.
The love story is fantastic, and I enjoyed reading emails in a book.
That being said, overall, I would have rather followed the sister from the first book.

OMG, I *loved* this book!

To be honest, I had a tough time for quite a bit of it. I loved Jo and her team of fellow conspirators, but I couldn't get past their way of making a living. I adored the Ocean's Eleven/Mission Impossible aspects of it, and gah, I really can't stand cheaters at all, but online romance scammers? I guess I've watched too many of those evening news specials and read too many NYT stories about women who had lost everything they had to some dodgy guy overseas. I loved everyone in this book, but even before Jamie March (OMG, I LOVED JAMIE MARCH!*) got thrown into the mix, I really, really, REALLY wanted these girls to do something else for a living. I was soooo conflicted. They were all gorgeous and brilliant, so I knew they could do anything they set their mind to! But how to convince Jo? I wasn't sure Jamie would be able to on his own *and* get them both to an HEA...

...but I'd already read Ms Dayton's Disaster Girl , so honestly, I should have known better. Of course she pulled it off! And in total style too :) By the time I got to the 75% mark, I didn't want to put this one down, because OMG I was gripped. Everything that gets thrown at Jo (and the reader) in that last 25% was just amazing. I laughed out loud. I cried. I swear, my heart clenched more than once. And so much swooning. I can't even tell you. I NEEDED to get to the end of the book ASAP, but goodness, I did not want it to end once I did.

How soon until book 3 is released? ;) Please tell me that Jo and Jamie will be in it at least as much as book one's Tess and Max were in this one... (insert fingers crossed emoji here)

Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

*so totally not fair to have a hero whose two nicknames (from the heroine) are both two of my all-time favorite movie boyfriends. And then there is the awesomeness that is Jamie March himself, even if we take away the Indy and Cap comparisons. Honestly, how are all future book boyfriends supposed to compete???

This is Jo Harper and Jamie March's story.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that to trick a rich man out of a large sum of money, one must be very clever and very patient.
In the hotel coffee shop, I stopped drumming my fingers on the table and with great effort stilled my twitching foot.
I’d been born clever, but the whole patience thing was taking a lot longer.
Bobby March is not on our list of cheaters. Worst of all, Bobby March is married to the daughter of one of the richest and most powerful men in the country.”
Sloan and Bobby March had been writing each other for only a few days, and she’d handled him clumsily.

Even though it took me a little longer than I normally like to get into Scammer Girl, I loved Jo almost from the beginning and the more I learned about her backstory the more I liked her. She is not your average romance heroine, not even a little bit. Well, not on the surface anyway and that only adds to her charm.
This opposites attract romance doesn’t start typically, because Jo and Jamie interact a lot through their computers, which given their chosen occupations, makes a lot of sense. This format allows us to get to know them both on a deeper level than you’d get with first and second dates. And I think it’s the perfect way to show the truth of both characters’ missions.
Jo is fine with scamming cheating men because they’re cheaters who can afford it, and most of all, it’s easy to tell them exactly what they want to hear online. On the other side of that coin, Jamie knows the damage that can be done by online scammers exactly because it is so easy to pretend to be something you’re not. They both have points and the fun in the journey is finding out who, if anyone, will give in for this love in the making.
Scammer Girl is a fun read, once it gets going, and you’ll love Jamie and Jo equally. There are lots of laughs, a few tears, and some really great conversations in this story. Great read.

This book lured me in and surprised me in the best of ways.

Jo Harper is an online scammer, targeting married, cheating men. She's been hurt before and, using her smarts and her computer, she's managed to regain a bit of what she lost 5 years earlier. Jamie March is the proclaimed 'good Internet guy', crusading against unsavoury online behaviour. They cross paths - purely by chance - when Jamie suspects that his brother may have been targeted in a scam. An unlikely attraction blossoms into something the pair is afraid to name - as they've both been scared to trust.

I thought, initially, that the single POV would have irritated me, but it gave me an appreciation for Jo's reasoning behind her decision to become an online scammer. It also provided the insight as to why her methods were not as mainstream as I expected them to be.

I liked Jamie. A lot. He and Jo were on opposite sides morally, but their chemistry and banter had me wishing eagerly that they would end up together sooner rather than later.

This is a well-written book. I loved that the leads were closer to my age. Michelle Dayton takes us on an intriguing journey that I recommend to you.

Cupid Tricks by Michelle Dayton
Story starts out with Jo and she has a group of other women who help the tech company. They are targeting married cheating husbands by enticing them with an affair with a single woman. They all have multiple personalities depending on the man they are targeting. They have plans in place for one who gets too close and wants more information about them.
Story also follows one of the subjects brothers, Jamie who knows who she is and has followed her around and approaches her at least once and they have a connection. The next time they meet he's trailed her to New Orlanes and when things get heated she gets called to help the other girls and he pitche in....She fears he is trying to take their group down.
Love how he really tracks her down and uses it to his advantage and she's willing... Kinda scary insistences but also thoughtful provoking events that you really have to be aware of and how to deal with them or you've been scammed.. Great details and lots of descriptions to the fashion, hairstyles and other things the women do to entice the men...It just all sounds so perfect, it can't last.
Received this review copy from Tule Publishing and this is my honest opinion.

Jo was sitting in the coffee shop watching Heather on the other side of the room waiting for their mark to arrive and take the bait.

The bait for a cheating husband. Jo ran a romance scam, but her targets were wealthy and well-known cheaters. She had stringent rules for her four employees and other than their first contact in person everything else was by email or Zoom calls.

They only had one more night in San Francisco before heading back to Chicago and having Sloan not responding to her calls was starting to worry her. Especially when she finds out she went rogue and selected a mark on her own.

Jo had rules for a reason and Sloan had picked the wrong man as her target.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This book has its own HEA, but the characters in this series are interconnected and having that background will make this book even more like being a friend on the inside.

These girls are scammers but you can't hate them since they are so loveable. This book is action-packed and full of smoking-hot chemistry. This book has a lot of 'what a small world' moments that will keep you laughing even as Jo freaks out. But the final twist was totally unexpected.

Highly recommend!

What a fabulous storyline. The plot is original and had me holding my breath in anticipation of what would happen next. The scams could so easily backfire at any moment; was this the chapter where everything turned to chaos? No? What about this one? It was a delicious ride with fantastically written characters that had so much wit and intelligence that I was determined to finish this story to find out what happened on the next page.

Jo was one scam away from killing me. She was so clever and has so many balls in the air that I kept waiting for disaster. Jo and Jamie together ... so hot! I felt the flames of their attraction from my kindle. He is the ‘straight as an arrow' heart on his sleeve man that captured my heart and she was everything he fought against. The sparks and banter are fantastic and there is nothing I would change about this book, at all.

I am definitely going to be diving into other books by Michelle Dayton now. If they are even anything close to this good, I’m an instant fan.

Scammer Girl is the second book in the Tech-nically Love Series by Michelle Dayton. Like the name of the book implies this is a story where the main character is not so lily white in her internet dealings. I struggled with Jo running a scammer operation so professionally I didn’t like her but as a character personality I did. I don’t believe doing wrong is justified by the targets being dishonest too but if anyone deserves it, it would be married cheaters.

The plot of the story has some unique characteristics that makes this an intriguing read. Jo and ethical correct Jamie March are a delight when together. Not only does she have some decisions, but Jamie also has some decisions. Together they make this story deliciously sizzling with banter, attraction, and enough mystery as what each will do in the end.

An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Cupid Tricks - Michelle Dayton
The next book in the series centres around Jo Palmer and her group of romance scammers. She has 1 rule, only.cheaters. When one of the girls accidently targets the wrong guy Jo's world is turned round in more ways than one.

While the plot line is something that inevitably happens the execution of the story could be better. As someone who has been doing this awhile why would you give someone your personal details? For me also the characters are weak and not beleavable. Take Jamie for instance. Why would you want to date someone who tried to scam your brother and almost took more than they  needed from his father-in-law. There is little character development. On the plus side Tess, Max and Roz make cameo's.

If you are looking for a very slow burn story with minimal spice and character depth then this is your book. Its easy to read and follow. Not my cup of tea sadly.

I rate this book a 4.5

Jo has a small technology company, employing several other women who enjoy acting as different characters. What do they do? They identify wealthy men who are likely to cheat on their wives and give expensive gifts. They find these guys and develop files and character profiles. Then the women take on a persona that will appeal to each man. They meet, seemingly by chance, in person. And once the bait is taken, the scam goes into effect. Until a problem develops.

Meanwhile, Jo has met Jaime. He's a rich single guy who wants to clean up the internet. And he stumbles onto the secret scam.

This is a very clever book about some very clever women. I absolutely enjoyed it and wondered how it would all end. The end is brilliantly clever. There are hot sex scenes so this book isn't for everyone, but I really enjoyed it.

Jo lost her parents when she was about 5 years old. She ended up being sent to live with an Uncle that never made her feel loved. He treated her like she was a burden to him. Despite all that happened to her growing up and since she has started her own business.

She now has a team of girls working for her and they are doing well. I won't tell you what their business is but I will tell you that I loved this story.

It was a kind of refreshing book to read. We are all used to books where the guy meets the girl and they fall in love and so forth and so on. But this one kinda centers around her job, the team she works with and has an awesome cast of characters. Loved the storyline and think you will too.

Check it out you won't be disappointed.

Loved it!
Jo and Jamie are a great opposites attract pairing. He's known as the 'Conscience of Silicon Valley' for his public stance on the dangers of people data mining social media etc, and she is a morally grey genius who runs a posse of girls who catfish cheating, married rich guys for cash.

After terrible life experiences almost destroyed Jo's life, she sort of fell into her current role. She's a kind of Robin Hood, working within her own very strict 'rules' that keep her little team safe.

This was first and foremost an epistolary romance which I loved. The chemistry between the MC's was 👌.

This is book 2. Now I want to read the whole series.

This book contains fade-to-black love scenes.

Ohhhh I really had fun with this. I am of the age to remember long and personal emails sent in the small hours to a crush object. And I miss that aspect of romance. The correspondence felt real to me. Plus, I just love that a woman turned scamming married men who stray into a business. The Avengers we deserve. All the tech usage was very sharp and great. The writer had a very firm handle on internet culture and how different character types would use it. Especially with the personas. I hadn't read the first book in this series but did fine without it. My only note of disappointment is that there is next to no smut, which is a disservice to the smoldering chemistry and declarations of acting on attraction.

“Cupid Tricks” starts off from a morally grey premise, with our FMC, Jo Harper, running a romance scam for married cheaters. Jamie March, a tech mogul with a strong sense of ethics, is determined to stop her. If you’re in the mood for a great enemies-to-lovers story, this book is for you!

Michelle Dayton does her witty dialogue amazingly well, and her characters are never superficial. Jo’s motivations, even if questionable at times, are understandable, and the chemistry between her and Jamie can be felt in every chapter. The plot goes beyond your typical rom-com, bringing into discussion themes of morality and vulnerability,

An original story, “Cupid Tricks” was a fun read for me, and I’m sure you’ll love it too!

Jo Harper said “ Not everyone could use words to get under a man’s skin like she could. Not everyone had the ability or would take the time to learn what make’s a man tick. Not everyone could show the man that she understood him in a away that made him feel alive and grateful. If they felt seen and understood an appreciated without having to return the emotional favor they were yours. Once they were yours they were very happy to give back in a financial way. “The moral of this story for online romantic emotional scammers. Fast paced, realistic page turner and a great read. This honest review for reading the ARC the Indie Pen PR.

Love this series!

I really liked Disaster Girl, the first book in this series, but I think I liked Scammer Girl even more. The fast-paced, witty and intelligent plot drew me in right away. I’m not exactly tech savvy, but reading about well-developed characters who make their living in the tech world (legally and illegally) makes for a fun, enlightening experience. The romance that develops between the main characters, Jo and Jaime, was entertaining and believable. I got a kick out of Tess, Max, and Roz from Disaster Girl, showing up in this book, too.

Who is Heather? Where is she and to whom is she speaking? What is she doing? Who is Linc? What does he do for a living? Who are Leah, Sloan, Andie, and Jo? What do they all do for a living? Oh goodness, what do we learn about Sloan's looks? Who are jamie, Bobby, and Sven? What happens when Jamie sees Sloan, Jo, Heather, and Leah at the airport? What does Jo do that breaks all her rules? Be warned that my waterworks started at about 80-81% of the way into the story! Holy smokes, talk about a bomb shell getting dropped into the end of this story! Read and see what happened!
