Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.

As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.

Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.

Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

This is a suspense book, and it is the 31st of the Sisterhood series. I did not know this was part of a series when I requested it, but I have to say I read it like a stand alone and it was still great. I loved this book. The case in this book was so great because you could believe it could happen, but it was an one a million choice of it happening. I really loved the characters as well. I will have to read more of this series. I could not put this book down. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Kensington Publishing Corporation) or author (Fern Michaels) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Bella and Andy met and fell in love so fast and only saw each other a couple weekends before they suddenly decided to marry with a justice of the peace before Andy had to leave for Afghanistan. They had exactly 48 short hours for their honeymoon, and then he was whisked away on his deployment. Just like that he was gone. Bella felt kind of lost because it all happened so fast. Now what was she going to do? She wrote him over several months, but she never got a response. Meanwhile, all the other wives and girlfriends were getting letters and Facetimes from their men. She received none of his paychecks, or anything. So strange. Well, as the story goes on, months later she finds he was killed...but the plot thickens. Andy had given the paperwork to change his Will leaving everything he owns to Bella, and to change his Power of Attorney to Bella's name with his friend at the last minute before he left so it could be delivered safely and taken care of, but somehow it never happened. Also, they had their eggs and sperm saved for "just in case", but oddly they come up stolen as well.

More strange "con artist" type things happen during this story and it becomes a true game of cat and mouse. Bella needs a lawyer on the case and fast. Suddenly we find the Sisterhood is at it again and they won't stop until proper justice is served. This was a great storyline, with some unexpected plot twists and turns that vengeance serves up well done at the end. It was a fun read and I recommend it.

I would like to thank Kensington Books and #NetGalley for this digital ARC in return for my honest review.

Look for #TruthandJustice to come out on August 28, 2020.

I think this “sisterhood” book was one of the oddest one of the series. Things just didn’t flow, the women were angry, they did things out of the ordinary routine and were rude and nasty to people they just met. Didn’t seem like the norm. Even though Bella needed some help it didn’t seem like a big deal to me. And how they handled the evil sister was more than strange.

I am a huge Fern Michaels and Sisterhood Series fan so when I tell you this was a good book I mean it. That being said I wanted more.

Not only did the sisters feel weird during this mission it was weird reading the story because to me it took a departure from the normal sisterhood books. That being said, I will always read this series and it's characters and stories are amazing and funny with a healthy dose of medicine for whomever gets in the wrong side of these ladies and Bella's sister-in-law did just that!

Read this book to get your sisterhood fix!

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

After marrying a soldier who disappears from her life, she finds he was horrifically injured, slowly dying. She finds this out the same day she files for divorce. The soldier's sister took everything.

The sisterhood gets involved.

Not at all realistic, but entertaining.

This book is so wrong that it doesn’t even feel like a Fern Michaels book. Is she one of the authors using ghostwriters?

I’ve read all the Sisterhood books and the things they do in this book would never happen. Bringing a “client” into the War Room? No way. Annie pulling out a gun for no reason? Nope? Even going downstairs and leaving the dishes would never happen. So sad.

Not so good

Not as good as the previous books in this series. Plot was very contrived and the characters had no depth.

Sisterhood 31

We meet Andy and Bella on a 48 leave from the military so they can get married, Not really knowing alot about each other, but the one thing they did agree on was to go to separate sites to leave specimens in case something happens to Andy while in the military. After not hearing from Andy or receiving any pay for a year Bella felt like Andy didn't love her so she filed for divorce. On the day she filed two Military Police show up and tell her husband is dead.

She accidentally meets a woman that is part of the Vigilantes. They discover that Andy has a sister that has a infatuation with him and is a con artist and has scammed unsuspecting men out of millions. She has taken all of Andy's money and posed as Bella to get her eggs and Andy's sperm so she could have Andy's baby.

With the Vigilantes on the case you know justice will be served.

This was another great read from Fern Michaels. I love all her books and can't wait for the next one!!

Bella and Andy met, fell in love, and married after a short time. Andy, who was in the military, deployed and never came back. Bella was upset and had no idea what was going on, since she had no word from or about Andy, so she proceeded, after a time, to divorce him, figuring Andy had decided it had all been a big mistake. The day she divorced, Bella found out Andy had been killed while on duty. However, for some strange reason, she found he had never changed his military records, so his half-sister inherited everything Andy had, which was quite a lot of money. Now, Bella pursues Andy’s sister, with the help of the Sisterhood, to find out what really happened.

As usual with this series, the way the Sisterhood operates and ends things is way beyond belief. I think reader just enjoy the fact that, in the series, women managed to do so well so consistently, that they really do not mind how unbelievable things are. The Sisterhood was out in full force with this book, doing a lot of what they normally do. However, there were no disguises or crazy events/actions, as in the other books. The ending came quite abruptly, with no time spent on just how they were going to and got retribution for Bella. In addition, unlike in previous books, they brought Bella right into the process from the outset, which made me wonder if the author is planning to make her a new member of the group in later books. There also were not a lot of the Sisterhood actions/reactions the other books have had, which made this one sort of fall flat. Frankly, it may be time to move on to a new series because I think this one may have worn out its welcome. I know the author started one for the men associate with the Sisterhood, but based on my reading, it is not nearly as good as this series. Finally, there was little character development in this one, but, for readers of the series, after so many books, that probably is not necessary at this point. However, for the reader new to the series, I could see where this might present some problems understanding and appreciating the story line and characters. Still, readers of the series might like this addition. Personally, I found it rather lacking and not all that compelling a read. Too much left out. Too hurried. The ending was really rushed, so that, before I knew it, I was on the last page, still feeling, wanting, and hoping more would occur. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

The Sisterhood presents incredible rescues by the group of powerful women known as the Sisterhood. They have become old favorites and I enjoy seeing what Fern Michaels cooks up each time. Now waiting for the newest one in late November.

My first Fern Michaels book

I received a copy of this book through Goodreads. I thought it was a little confusing in the first half due to all the characters. Towards the end it was less so. It was interesting and a quick read. Did I enjoy it? Yes, it may have been more enjoyable and made more sense if I had read the previous books in the series. I may just do that.

Book Review: Truth and Justice by Fern Michaels
5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Pub Date: Aug 25th

I loved this story!!!!! This is a part of Fern Michaels "Sisterhood" series but these books can be read as a standalone. I myself have only read one other Sisterhood book before this one and Ms Michaels tells this story in a way where you don't feel lost if you read it as a standalone. This has her signature style of writing a story that is comfortable but yet captivating and has you rooting for the main character. Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for my honest review

When you get to installment 31 of a series you might question what the author can bring that is different. Well, Fern Michaels did bring it -- finally a case that the Sisters can't seem to crack . . . or can they? Love the ending where the "cleaning crew" hung around to see the Sisters deliver justice as only they can do! 6 out of 10.

Fern Michaels has done it again. Another great book in the Sisterhood series. Bella finds herself in a dilemma when her husbands dies. She is befriended by a lawyer who turns her over to the ladies to solve her mystery. Love their humor, wit and intelligence in solving the mystery. Love this series and Fern Michaels books!

Truth and Justice: Sisterhood Book 3 is by Fern Michaels. This book is like all her other books, absolutely riveting. Fern Michaels has a way of writing that takes the reader right into the pages of the book and makes them part of the action. You are simply caught up in the excitement and unable to put it down until you are finished with the book. Her characters become your friends and stay that way from book to book.
Bella Ames Nolan was very upset with her “husband” Andy. He had been deployed just after their marriage and she hadn’t heard anything from him. She had contacted some of the other wives and found out they talked to their husbands regularly but nothing from Andy. She was at her wits end and finally made the decision to file for a divorce. If he couldn’t contact her in this length of time, he didn’t want her. She finally went to the lawyer’s office and signed the papers. Instead of going to work, she went home. Then the worst thing in the world happened, the door rang and the military personnel were there to tell her that Andy had died eight months ago! He had been injured longer ago than that and had been nearby at Walter Reed. Andy had not changed his paperwork nor told anyone he was married. They had only recently found out that he had been married and they finally located her. His sister who had his Power of Attorney was the one who got control of all his insurance, finances, bank accounts, etc. When they tried to locate her about this, they could not find her. Bella was devastated. To think that Andy hadn’t acknowledged their marriage was the last straw.
Bella was sitting at a tea room one afternoon trying not to cry when Alexis came in with a friend. She saw Bella and went over to check on her. When she found out what was wrong, she gave Bella her advice and her contact information. If she needed help, Alexis would be there for her. Alexis was a lawyer at the Quinn Law Firm as well as a member of the Vigilantes. Bella didn’t know she was in good hands now.

What did I just read? I mean, really, did I just get through all of this? Yup, just barely.

And this is a popular series? I definitely missed something.

How much inane drivel could the characters in this book spew from their mouths? Do older people really talk like this in the 21st Century? I felt the characters in this book were a bunch of old biddies who were essentially entrenched in the 1950's.

I mean...come on! "We are the Vigilantes" felt like some Marvel comic book hero standing on a mountain top with his/her chin jutting forward and the wind blowing at his/her hair.

Spoiler:

This story had so-so much potential! A woman named Bella had her eggs stolen from a clinic and she wants to know who could do such a thing. So she contacts "The Vigilantes," a group of mostly older women who she thinks can save the day. Oh, okay, they do save the day but it felt like it was created by the author for just that purpose

The victim, Bella, is her own worst enemy. Yeah, sometimes she stands firm for herself. I liked that aspect of her personality. But hey, she married a guy she knew nothing about, he got sent to the Middle East, died, and she wonders why he never contacted her. Well, I guess the Paul Montrose character who shows up later gives her some solace.

I know this is a popular book series, but to me, "The Vigilantes" felt like a bunch of over the hill women who would be better off spending their time playing Bridge. I know how that sounds but I just could not comprehend how these women could solve this mystery.

Others have said this is the worst book in the series. Perhaps that is true as it is the only book I have ever read by Fern Michaels. Maybe I should try another but this one left a sour taste in my mouth and I just don't have any excitement buried in me to try others

A member of the group of infamous ladies called The Vigilante’s encounters Bella as she is crying in a restaurant and tries to comfort her. Bella married the love of her life - her soul mate - and had two whole days with him before he left her crying as he was immediately deployed. Gone almost before it started and now she is left with emptiness and silence.
Shortly after meeting the lady a tragic Bella calls on her new friend to help her. Bella has been wronged big time by a woman she has never meet, a lady named Sara. Quickly marked the woman of many names by the vigilantes, as she has changed her identity so many times in her life of accumulating riches by taking wherever and however she can. She however is now in the crosshairs of the Vigilantes, she took something from Bella that crossed all lines of decency. The ladies know that Bella isn’t safe either her life itself is in jeopardy and they plan to get what she took from Bella back and save her life ... if they can ever find the elusive Sara.
I’ve read a lot of Fern Michaels but this one I would never have guessed she wrote it doesn’t have the same depth and smoothness I am familiar with in her writings. It’s good and entertains but I’m not sure I agree with how it ended. You can judge for yourself. Thank you NetGalley, Fern Michaels and Kensington books for allowing me to read this ARC.

I'll try reviewing this without giving away the entire story.

I'm a HUGE fan of Fern Michaels - especially the Sisterhood series. Have read all 31 of the Sisterhood books, am waiting on #32, and I probably own about half of them.

Having said all that, I am very disappointed in #31. It's a great premise, but it seems as if Ms. Michaels got bored writing the book and just didn't flesh it out. And much of it didn't make sense or was flat out unbelievable for the Vigilantes to do (such as taking their client into their War room).

The Vigilantes really didn't do much but talk among themselves. They turned over their jobs to Avery and his crew. Ms. Michaels used to go into clear detail (yet VERY easy reading) but this story lacks the details, the back story, the "action," and the heart of the book series . . . the Vigilantes' revenge. It seemed as if it was all solved and ended in one paragraph.

To those who have read only this book: PLEASE, read the books, in order, and you will understand why they are so popular. They are fantastic, and always leave you wanting more of the Sisterhood.

I'm still a huge fan, but sure hope Ms. Michaels takes more time to give us a more developed story next time.

The Sisterhood is a vigilante group who goes all over righting wrongs. They are a group of women who are mostly rich and well educated and like to help the law along a little and make sure justice is served. I’ve been reading these books just for entertainment for several years. I don’t agree with their methods but I find the whole thing amusing.

This story deals with a soldier who had a whirlwind impromptu wedding and honeymoon days before he had to deploy. Soon after he leaves his wife stops getting contacted by him and none of her military benefits kick in. She is very discouraged and thinks she made a mistake with this man. She discovers, too late, that her husband had left the paperwork with a friend to pass on to his sister to take care of. And then other things come up missing too and the Sisterhood has to track everyone down and get it all straightened out for this wife.

It’s an involved story, but fascinating and fun to read. I’m not sure I’m happy with the conclusion but it is interesting, all the same.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

This book is 5 stars.. I didn't like it, I loved it.
"Truth and Justice" is (Sisterhood #31) by Fern Michaels and I have read and enjoyed all 31. The Vigilantes ( the Sisters) will take on a case for the underdog and right the wrongs done against them. I read this books wishing, as always, that the Vigilantes really existed and they were working on the side of good in real life. They are modern day heroes. In this book the case was harder to unravel for the sisters and there was less information about the end punishment for the villain or the money distribution than in some of the earlier books. I also thought we were left hanging about the identity of the villain. It was eluded to the fact that she was not the biological child of her "mother" but we were never given any details. I kept thinking the sisters were going to discover something that would clear that up but it was never mentioned.
This is one of my favorite series and I love all the characters and enjoy every time I get to catch back up with them.
Thanks to Netgalley and to the publisher for this ARC.

Fern Michaels took a somewhat of a detour, in Truth and Justice, the 31st book in the Sisterhood series. When I began reading, I immediately detected a detour from the norm, and I must admit that I was intrigued to see where this would go. Bella falls in love and marries a soldier who is about to deploy. Young love is sweet. Or is it? Bella does not have the maturity that is required to handle a military marriage, nor does she have the history of a relationship to sustain her while her husband is deployed.
At first, I felt sorry for Bella, but as the story line developed, I found myself disliking her. Also, I was not at all pleased with the fact that the Sisters allowed her access to the inner sanctum, which is something that they NEVER do. The involvement of the Sisters was almost secondary to the plot, but all in all I did enjoy this book, although it was out of the norm. It sparked a reaction which says that it was a good read. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

Truth and Justice is the latest int he Sisterhood series is by Fern Michaels. These books are focused on the relationships between the women, and how woman support each other through dark or difficult times.

The premise of this book was a little bit more far fetched than prior books in the series. Bella met and married Andy in a very short time, and they had only a two-day honeymoon before he left for his next tour of duty. No one knew that they got married. Bella didn't get any letters, correspondence, anything, while Andy was away. She's later notified that he had been injured and died some time ago, but no one knew that he was married. In the meantime, his sister inherited everything, even though he had filled out all of the paperwork to leave everything to Bella, but it never got properly filed.

This is where the women come in to save the day. Their friendship is a blessing for Bella. The strength of their friendship is what pulls her through. It's always good to read of women helping women and friendship helping through the dark times.

I got a copy of this book through Goodreads.

I was my first Fern Michaels book, and my first Sisterhood book. I was really excited about it because the plot sounded very interesting.

I will hold that the plot was pretty interesting, but not interesting enough to keep me reading all the way through. I fully admit that I had to put this on my "maybe finish later" shelf in my Kindle.

The story isn't bad, but there was something about the way that the characters (the sisterhood, actually) was written that made me not able to connect with them. They really turned me off from the rest of the book, to be honest. The dialogue was somewhat stilted, and I couldn't get a good feel for anyone except Bella (the main character). I've read other reviews that said that this book really deviated from the norm in style and feeling, so I'm absolutely willing to give the author more chances with other books (since I did enjoy the way she wrote Bella, and I do think the plot had a lot of potential), but I'm willing to admit that maybe this just wasn't the right book for me.

I loved truth and justice by fern micheals and i think you will too. Fern micheals hits it just right with this one. If you like stories where wrongs are made right outside of the law, wrongdoers get their comeuppance, theres always a happy ending that leaves you smiling and there is always the bonds of friendship , you'll love this compelling story. Bella Ames is the newest client of the sisterhood, a organization of women who are close friends and who right wrongs outside the law. Bella Ames husband was killed from his injuries fighting overseas leaving bella with nothing and she doesn't get notified for 8 months. She goes to collect the eggs she and Andy stored to get some money and finds out someone else posing as her has already stolen them. She needs help as she is the target of Andy's sister Sara, who is a cunning, cruel con artist. The sisterhood gives Sara her comeuppance, collects the eggs and returns them aloong with the money Bella is entitled to. Bella also finds a new life with Andy's friend Paul.

Truth and Justice is the latest in the popular Sisterhood Series by Fern Michael. The heroine is a young lady who married her military hero husband for love after she had known him only a short period of time. She quickly becomes frustrated and disillusioned when she does not hear from him and turns to an attorney to dissolve the marriage that had barely started. Hard pressed for money and emotional over this difficult decision she meets an unlikely friend in a bar. This friend changes her life and starts the journey to solve the mystery of our heroine's husband. Is he really the jerk he appears to be and how can the mystery of so many unknowns about him be solved? Enter the Vigilantes. This is a fun book. It has a lot of twists and turns and the Vigilante's themselves are interesting characters. If you want pure entertainment and a fun read turn to this book. Bella and Andy had a whirlwind romance -they married fast. Then, tragically, he was killed in Afghanistan. And it turns out, there's a con man out there who has deprived Bella of her widow's benefits and her chance to have a baby with Andy. You can understand why she would be distraught. She's lucky, though, to come to the attentions of the Sisterhood, a group of wealthy and connected women committed to righting wrongs where they can. This is a long running series that's new to me but this installment was fine as a standalone (although I'll admit I'm sure I missed nuances). I like the idea of women standing up for other women and finding ways to fix things. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Good characters, a slightly tricky plot, and a positive tone make this a good read.
