Lexi Carmichael Mystery #3
No Place Like Rome
Italy might seem like a long way to go to hide after a disastrous date. But when sexy überhacker Slash (no, that's not his real name) asks me to go with him to Rome on an investigation, the timing is sort of perfect. My messed-up love life becomes the least of my worries, though, after the dead body, the near-kidnapping and the discovery of a top secret encrypted file that even I can't hack.
With time running out, there's only one thing to do: call in the legendary Zimmerman twins and my best fluent-in-Italian friend, Basia, to crack the code. Now if only someone could help me solve the mystery of whether Slash is flirting, or if all the kissing is just one of those "when in Rome" things…
But when we finally uncover the secret someone would kill to keep, it's up to me to solve the case and save the lives of my best friends.

No Place Like Rome by Julie Moffett
Lexi Carmichael series book 3. Mystery with self proclaimed nerds.
Lexi travels to Rome with Slash to investigate an encrypted computer file. The Zimmerman twins and best friend Basia join the hunt and it takes them further than expected.
Fun mystery with a goofy and naive Lexi where she meets friends and family of Slash and no one knows his name. Mr Top Secret finds joy in being with Lexi and it will be interesting to see where that relationship goes. The computer tech is a bit dated depending on the version that’s read. The author does update frequently but who can keep up with changes these days.
Enjoyable and easy to read.

Professional hackers go to Rome to help out the Vatican Bank find out who stole $18,000,000. Involves some history and artifacts and priceless paintings. Slash sounds like my kind of guy, you would not be bored in his company even if he makes up his own rules along the way.

A small amount of grammatical or usage 'boo-boos' but otherwise a great addition to the Lexi Carmichael series. Very good read for both computer geeks and non-geeks alike. Different and refreshing cozy series in that it involves a cyber security whiz/legitimate hacker and her friends tracking down other (illegal) hackers.

Un tome passionnant et bourré d’action. Retrouver Lexie ainsi que ses compagnons a été un vrai plaisir d’autant plus que lors de cette enquête nous voyageons en Italie. Pour bien connaître ce pays, je sais avec certitude que l’auteure a du y aller ou du moins bine se renseigner et a parsemé au milieu des chapitres des anecdotes ainsi que des faits réels.
Encore une fois, ce tome est porté haut la main par notre héroïne, unique en son genre. Une vraie geekette, avec un cœur d’or, mais une naïveté effarante. Ce trait de caractère la rend très attachante et nous vaut des dialogues et des situations mourir de rire. Cette fois-ci, c’est Slash lui-même qui engage X-Corp afin de l’aider pour innocenter son oncle : grand trésorier du Vatican.
Cette enquête est excellente et pas seulement parce que toute personne un peu intéressée par les mystères se demande que cache cet état, moi la premiere ! L’intrigue sur laquelle nous entraîne l’auteure est peut-être issue de son imagination, mais elle distille des faits qui semblent si crédibles qu’elle est fascinante. Et quand les jumeaux Zimmermann ainsi que Basia viennent en renfort, l’enquête devient haletante.
Quant aux relations amoureuses de Lexie ( enfin si on peut utiliser ce terme avec elle) elles semblent prendre un nouveau tournant.

Action, romance, an engaging set of characters
This series is addictive. I let my husband read one and now he's already downloaded most of the series. He loves the quirky character even though he doesn't understand the geek speak. It's got action, romance, and an engaging set of characters. I must keep reading to catch up with my better half!

If you are fan of Kathy Reichs's Bones series, you may enjoy this younger version, of sorts. Lexi Carmichael of the Lexi Carmichael Mystery Series, is not a mature Asperger medical examiner like Bones, she's a twenty-five-year-old Asperger computer security expert.
The author inserts much humor into her books, and a lot of it comes from Lexi's social misunderstandings, which can lead to physical altercations. When the series begins, Lexi works for the U.S. government's National Security Agency. As the series progresses, she leaves the NSA for the private sector.
I've read only one book in the series, No Place Like Rome, the book that brings Lexi to Italy, along with a hot-stuff Italian-American special agent nicknamed Slash: "Mystery and enigma all rolled into one". Luckily Slash, a recurring series character, is loaded with bucks, so the trip is first-class all the way.
Italy's touchy-feely culture mystifies Lexi. This is shown to the extreme when she meets Slash's Italian grandmother. Italy's often overly demonstrative emotions are actually a good thing for an Asperger. Lots more clues are present for them to pick up on what is going on behind the facial masks they see.
Lexi is not the swiftest in deciphering people, so she is unaware of just how much the men in her life adore her. Yes, I said MEN. They find her social awkwardness endearing. The colloquial, slangy first person monologue/narration drops hints for us to pick up about this, but most of them are over the head of clueless protagonist Lexi.
Lexi is more than an Asperger computer geek, she is also mildly neurotic. To help smooth her way in life, she relies heavily on her best female friend, Basia.
The book presents the problem/mystery well, and includes us in much of the computer security work, leading up to an exciting finish. There are a few typos, some repetitiveness, and a bit of playing fast and loose with history, all things that may be fixed in later editions.
The series is a quick, light read, with plenty of laughs, and with an appeal that may be greatest for young/new adult readers. There are six books to-date, with more in the works.

No Place Like Rome is the third book (fourth if you count the novella) in the Lexi Carmichael Mystery series and it is a fun, well written book. There were a few glaring editing problems which I was surprised to see.
Lexi is hired, via Finn's new security company, to accompany Slash to Rome. Apparently Slash's uncle is accused of stealing from the Vatican Bank and Slash needs her cyber security expertise. But Slash seems to want more from Lexi and being socially inept she just doesn't understand what's happening between them. Is all of this kissing an Italian thing?
The humor in this book had me giggling away, the romance was steamy, and the mystery intriguing. Reading about Lexi is just pure fun and she is such an amazing heroine. She's smart, funny, kind and humble, but she doesn't understand why everyone thinks she's so special or why three men want her.
You have to read this book. Even though the author does an excellent job of recapping the past stories in the first chapter, you should read the entire series.

Absolutely loved No Place Like Rome. This series falls between thrillers and cozy mysteries. Each book has lots of twists, turns, and danger, but there is a personal feel and enough humor to lower the tension level. Oh, yes and sizzle. There is no telling where that sizzle will eventually go but it does add to the stories. I love the characters!!!
Slash hires X-Corp to prove that his uncle did not steal 18 million Euro's from the Vatican bank, so Lexi travels with him to Rome to help track down the hacker who used his uncle's information to transfer the funds. They soon learn that there is more behind the theft than just missing money. As always, the plot is complex and exciting and I never have been able to guess where it all led!

I got a deal on this book and so started the series without reading books 1 or 2, so had to pick up on the various relationships between characters as I went along. I'm happy to say that this wasn't difficult--the characters were all very well written and it was easy to be up to speed almost immediately.
I really, really loved this book! Partly it's because I love Rome and Italy, so was thrilled to read a book taking place there. I thought the mystery was very well-written, fast-paced, with enough action to keep me engaged balanced with enough "downtime" to allow my adrenaline to ebb so that it could build again. Did I understand the technology? Heck no--I'm a History person, not a STEM person. But there wasn't so much of it that I got bored, the explanations sounded good to me (I totally suspend all disbelief when it comes to technology), and it was interesting to me to see how the characters worked together toward their goal, even though the technical "how" was totally irrelevant to me. And Slash. What can I say? An Italian James Bond with the brains of a genius who's enchanted with the geek girl? Sign me up!
I'm glad to have discovered this series when there are so many books available so I have some excellent reading to look forward to!

I'm starting to think Chaos is Lexi's middle name because where this lady goes THINGS HAPPEN. Like a cat fight on an opera stage. And a cat who tries to assert her dominance by peeing in unexpected places.
Yes, Lexi has some odd things happen to and around her. She also gets to follow some obscure clues to find hidden treasures. And help the Vatican and Slash's uncle out. Which, as you might imagine, endears her to a whole lot of people. (Slash's family being high among those people. And the Pope. Because this is Lexi and her awkwardness somehow works on so many levels.)
So. Lexi and Slash are jaunting off to Italy to unravel the mystery of the missing 18 million. The dynamic duo get to engage in a little clandestine hacking and some seriously steamy moments. Oh, and a little danger. Because danger follows these two like...uhh, something that follows something else really closely.
Good thing both Lexi and Slash are up to stopping the bad guys before they do some very bad things. *thumbs up*

#3 in series picks up where #2 left off. Lexi is mortified about how she met Finn's family & is embarrassed to face them. Finn takes on a new case from none other than Slash. His uncle has been accused of a theft from the vatican bank so he's hiring X corp to investigate. Lexi is assigned the case to go to Rome with Slash. Confused & socially awkward, Lexi is juggling her feelings for Finn and Slash while hacking into the banks to find the real culprit of the theft. Attempted murder, several mishaps, & a 5oo year mystery all play into the Rome adventure. Lexi and Slash, along with Tito, Basia, & the Zimmerman twins race to uncover the theft, murderer, and secret hidden in the code to clear Slash's uncle's name.

Série addictive... Intelligemment, l'autrice réussit faire évoluer sa série, en créant comme ici une intrigue à la James Bond, qui joue la carte du cliché international. Lexi se retrouve avec ses amis, dans une suite d'évènements dangereux qui l'amènent à Rome, dans une sorte de course au trésor. C'est drôle, avec une héroïne toujours un peu décalée socialement, mais toujours aussi fûtée.
Comme je l'ai écrit : une série qui ne se prend pas au sérieux, mais écrite très sérieusement (l'intrigue est vraiment bien ficelée) qui joue avec les clichés de l'espionnage, de la comédie romantique. Dépaysement garanti pour l'été !

I've been liking the Lexi Carmichael books but she's starting to annoy me. For that reason, I can't give the book as many stars as I would like to give. She says she has no social knowledge yet she has three men chasing after her. I don't know, and it sounds like she doesn't either, but what is she going to do?
She's in Rome with Slash to help the Vatican find some lost treasure. But, how can a computer hacker locate an animate object in an inanimate world? Lexi gets help but she's also being stalked by someone who wants the secreted object to stay that way and they'll do whatever it takes.

Only Lexi could end up in an orchestra pit with a star soprano! Slash has a family member in trouble in Italy and has hired XCorp to help investigate. We get to learn more about the Dark Stallion, the code name the FBI has given Slash. There is an encrypted file they need to get into and they call in the Zimmerman’s to help along with Basia to help with translating if Slash isn’t around. This is quite an adventure for the crew involving the Vatican, secret vaults and more. I loved watching Lexi trying to navigate all the women in Slash’s life.

It was good to learn a bit more about our lead supporting character while still having exotic experiences. This series definitely leads readers craving for more about its characters and their adventures. Julie answers standing character questions but is adept at making readers seek more knowledge while being entertained by their escapades.

Fantastic read! This is by far my favorite book so far. I LOVED all the background we got on Slash and the romance that's blossoming. That's probably why this was my favorite one so far. The mystery was exciting, but the background information on the characters was definitely a page turner. I finished this one in record time and couldn't put it down!

I loved this book and love this series! If you like Stephanie Plum, and are a techie (or not) you'll like it! I loved the plot twists, and the "Good guys win." theme. One thing is for sure, this band of 5 make a great team despite their differences. I especially love Lexi! She's such a trouble magnet for sure!

This is the 3rd book in the series by Julie Moffett. Although there are a couple of dead bodies lying around, I would say it is a lot more of an adventure story than a mystery. It was a fun, entertaining little romp. The author went a little overboard with the portrayal of central character as a stereotypical computer geek, but that was part of what made the story fun.

Always good
I have the whole series. I re-read them every couple of years. Even though I know them, they are still entertaining. They are low on the sex/cussing scale. Would not suggest it to my granddaughter or Pastor's wife. My one beef is they try to change things a bit (probably try to sex it up) and then try to get you to but the New versions.

Enjoyable read.
Very entertaining. Great cast of believable characters who know how to do right. Light hearted, and enjoyable reading. Entertaining! Can't wait to read more about escapades of Carmichael & Slash.
Very entertaining. Great cast of believable characters who know how to do right. Light hearted, and enjoyable reading. Entertaining! Can't wait to read more about escapades of Carmichael & Slash.

If I analysed this, I'm sure I could find a few holes, but I really don't want to nitpick, as the enjoyment and satisfaction I get from reading these light mysteries would be spoiled. A cracker in the series.

September 28, 2020(E-Lib) I liked this book, but it bugged me that the author kept misusing the proper case for pronouns. How cute that Nonna's perfume helped out in the end; I had a feeling it was going to come back in the storyline. It looks like Elvis might be moving up to first place in Lexi's heart.

This is my 3rd time reading this book. It’s a favorite. Slash and Lexi spend more time together. I like Basia’s character most of the time, but then she annoys me sometimes. Fortunately everyone and everything else makes up for my sometimes dislike of her.

I love the characters, this one was action packed, loaded with geekiness and so much fun. Lexi is amazingly brilliant and clueless at the same time. Interesting plots and definitely a mystery that keeps you guessing.
