Harper Harlow #20

Ghostly Problems

Rate this book
Harper Harlow-Monroe is settling into married life well. Her biggest problem is her best friend Zander, who is planning his own wedding. That is until a new resident comes to Harper with a poltergeist problem.
Beckham Lighthouse is located in a unique spot, where the lake and the river meet. When a body washes up on the shore close to the building, talk turns to the poltergeist … which they’re having zero luck dealing with.
Harper’s husband Jared, a local police detective, believes they’re looking for a human culprit. Harper thinks her case and his might be connected. Together, they have to dig deep. Things take a turn when Jared realizes that the new owner of the lighthouse is a familiar face from his past.
Debbie Montlake was an ex-girlfriend he had no problem leaving behind. Her appearance in town right when a murder occurs has him rattled, however, even as Harper starts bonding with the woman.
There’s a killer on the loose and a poltergeist locked in a lighthouse. Are the two things connected? Harper is determined to find out, even if she has to ask for help from a witchy friend to get her answers.
Magic is might, and Harper’s group has magic on their side. Survival isn’t a given, however. Everybody is going to have to work together to solve this one, and even then, the answers might be more than anybody can bear.

I love the narrator of the audio books! She is doing a great job 👍!
I love the characters, because I feel like I have gotten to know them through the previous 20 books. But I am really sorry to say, that most of this book was repetitious banter and really poor story... I was hoping for more, seeing that Ivy and her man were visiting with Harper and Zander, but it felt really flat. I think the only thing that made the book work was the first scene in the bridal shop, but everything after was a let down... I am truly sorry for that. I don't like giving low ratings, because I hope the author keeps using the established characters in better ways. Quality is better than quantity and I think if the author would consider writing less books with better plot lines and less of just filler recycled conversations, it would be more satisfying for everyone involved... ☹️🙁

Very entertaining Paranormal cozy mystery series

This is a very entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. If I can cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Harper Harlow Monroe is the young woman who has the ability to see and speak to ghosts in a multitude of different ways. Her best friend Xander have been running ghost hunters Inc. for years and they’ve known each other since kindergarten. They recently purchased the local cemetery and combined that business with your ghost hunting business so they could run their ghost tours much easier and more often. Recently they were approached about a job about a ghost at a lighthouse. Now the time has come to tackle that project. Redial and see what trouble they can get into this time. A special crossover guest with a Ivy Morgan and Jack her husband makes it that much more entertaining as the crossover events are always fun. Read on and check it out.

Nothing is quite what it seems..

Harper and Zander have been researching the situation at the lighthouse for Debbie Montlake for quite a while without much success. When Jared and Mel are called out to deal with a body that has been found nearby, Harper is keen to find out if their ghost is hanging around so she can help with the investigation but while there doesn't seem to be any spirits roaming around the outside there's definitely still something inside.

Debbie appears down at the scene and when Jared comes over, to ask Harper and Zander to keep out of the sight of the CSI team, he is shocked to see her.. she launches herself into his arms and starts calling him lover boy and talking about their past relationship.. he's mortified, Harper is amused and when Debbie claims she had no idea that Jared had moved to Whisper Cove Zander is definitely suspicious.

Jared soon stops Debbie and explains that he's married to Harper now and very happily so.. but is it all a genuine coincidence or was Debbie seeking an opportunity to rekindle their relationship? It doesn't bother Harper because she's well aware that they both have pasts her own ex-boyfriend was hardly a joy when he reappeared. Harper's convinced it's more than just a poltergeist but things are spiralling into danger. When a second body drops it's touch and go whether they can find the link between the dead men..

Harper needs help from Ivy Morgan to deal with a deadly poltergeist.

At the end of the last book Harper took on a ghost removal job at Hunter lighthouse, she thought she'd go in use the steakhouse ways peasy. Not quite turns out the spirit at the lighthouse is a poltergeist , the most dangerous one Harper has ever come across, she cannot even enter the lighthouse the force is that strong. At a loss I've how to proceed she contacts. Ivy Morgan, Ivy agrees to come to town ----- bringing husband Jack with her------ and do all she can to help. Jared, Harper's husband he his own problems, first, there's been murder, a photographer has been found in the river shot in the back of the head, Jared and Mel have no idea who would want to kill such an innocuous person and are quite stumped. Second, the new owner of the lighthouse turns out to be an old girlfriend of Jareds, he's shocked to find her in Whisper Cove, is her presence in town a coincidence and she just so happens to have a problem which requires Harper's help, it seems to be but Zander doesn't think so and he'll never let it go if he's right.

I honestly should have been done with this book days ago. 😄 I was busy with the kids and me being sick. However, I just finished reading and it was soooo great!

It truly amazes me all the different ideas certain writers carry in their heads and their ability to actually put those ideas into words that make sense to the reader. Writing is truly an art form.

I don’t like books and movies about space, flying, and water; however, I do enjoy reading about lighthouses and this book has a lighthouse… a haunted lighthouse. Harper co-owns a ghost hunting business with her fabulous best friend Zander. Harper can see and communicate with spirits and now she and Zander own a cemetery, too. They will soon be running ghost tours out of their cemetery.

Harper and Zander, along with their ghost hunting crew are commissioned by a cool lady named Debbie to rid her newly purchased lighthouse of what turns out to be a poltergeist. As the crew begins their endeavor of ridding the lighthouse of this poltergeist, they discover the being may not be a poltergeist at all, rather it seems to be something else… something more… more evil.

Then - since a death is typically involved in this series - a murder occurs. A photographer’s body is found fairly close to the lighthouse, actually. Jared, Harper’s husband and Whisper Cove Detective questions Harper as to whether or not a poltergeist can kill a person and her answer is yes, but not by pulling the trigger of a gun which is how the photographer was murdered. So now Jared and his partner Mel begin looking for a human suspect.

And Debbie may not be as cool as Harper originally thought, although Zander has his suspicions of her intentions.

The being in the lighthouse is beyond Harper’s knowledge, so she calls on her witchy friend, Ivy Morgan (this meeting makes this book the perfect crossover read). Ivy is perplexed by the being, but quickly pulls theories on how to omit it with the help of Harper and Harper’s specifically designed to move-spirits-to-their-afterlife dream catchers.

Zander is due to be married in a few weeks and has Harper in a not-so-fabulous tangerine matron of honor dress. She hates it! The dress was her worst problem until the evil spirit came along. I bet she isn’t feeling so bad about that dress now.

All the ghost hunter crew and pink haired witch team together to get the evil out! Can they do it in time for Zander and Shawn’s special day or will they end up in their own cemetery 6 feet under? What do you think?

As always with Harper Hart’s books, there’s plenty of snark, too much kissing and PDA between couples for some, magic, and spirits. Loved this!

Next in this series is book 21, “Ghostly Shadows”. There are also several crossover reads involving various characters such as Ivy Morgan, Maddie, Graves, Ofelia Archer, etc

just awesome

As a set up for the future books linking everyone together this was a great start.
Harper and Ivy work so well together, eventually adding in Maddi and Rowan and I’m guessing visits from Hannah on Occassion the future truly looks magical.
A magical network sounds amazing and also allows for new characters to be added into the mix as well I also wouldn’t mind more involvement from Aunt Felicity either.
But for now another mystery has been solved and evil with Thwarted and Zander got to say ‘I told you so’ and do a little dance.
I’m looking forward to a tangerine wedding Zander style.

Has spoilers

Spoiler Alert ⚠️

Great story, loved bringing Ivy and Harper back together, and a few of the twists which occurred.

This is where the spoilers come in... heads up

Having Jared's ex- girlfriend be the one who owned the lighthouse was fun. Seeing a part of him which highlighted his past and all over reactions was great. Especially Harper's non-reactive, except in curiosity.

What was cliché was has having Debbie turn out to be a psycho killer. It already had happened in other stories, why not break the norm? Have it had been Debbie's editor or something.

Overall the story was good.

Harper and ivy together again

I love each of these series on their own, but I really live it when we get crossovers!
When Harper and Zander realize they might need help getting a poltergeist out of the lighthouse she calls Ivy to come and help. Along with this they are dealing with the fact that the owner of the lighthouse is Jared's ex, which seems weirdly coincidental and suspicious, a body found in the water, and Zanders upcoming wedding, our favorite couples will have their work cut out for them.

So good!!!

This book has to have been the most well thought out book in this series. Harper and Crew, including her witch friend Ivy and her husband Jack are introduced to a whole new dark entity after a blast from the past tries to infiltrate their small lake side town of Whisper Cove. I'm also pretty sure that this is a set up for a new series that will involve several of Lily Harper Hart's supernatural beloved characters. I'm so excited to read what she has planned!

Love crossovers

I love crossovers and this one didn't disappoint. The story was interesting, I didn't figure out all the how and why until the end. The characters, with the exception of Zander have matured a bit. I am not a big fan of the men wringing their hands as the women do some things that are inconsiderate to others feelings, but they are getting better. I am looking forward to the next crossover

I like crossovers

Ivy and Harper make a good team. I like the idea of occasional guest spots from characters from series that have been concluded. T
here's always something after "happily ever after", and it's fun to see it. I know raising kids doesn't work in the basic paranormal romance format, but I'm sure other readers who've been in love and had kids and had to juggle that would enjoy it.

Really Enjoyed it

I loved this unexpected cross-over. Harper is smart enough to know when she needs to call for reinforcements and has no problem asking Ivy and Jack for help. I wanted to be wrong about who the killer was but that was all over once they got inside the lighthouse! This book was funny, snarky and interesting. I love how it ended.

The past

Harper and Jared both had someone from their past come and try to ruin their happiness. It didn't v work they are strong together and put them were they belong. I'm happy Ivy and Jack were able to come and help and they are making plans to work more together and get more people to help.

I do enjoy a crossover story. Good to have Harper and Ivy back together. There is murder, a poltergeist and an old girlfriend from Jared's past. All is not what it seems to be. Let's not forget the situation regarding Harper's dress for Zander's wedding. The usual mayhem that is Zander is present. Harper is out of ideas and calls Ivy for additional help.

The Lighthouse.

Harper and Zander are trying to rid a lighthouse of a poltergeist but nothing is working so she calls Ivy Morgan-Harkness for help. The twists and turns start immediately, causing the group to confront the past and look to the future.

Godd story!

I love the cross-over books when the characters interact. The plots are always fun, the mushiness is a bit much. Otherwise, clean and non-violent writing, easy reading. Well done!

Good book

I always enjoy this series and am sad it is getting close to the end. Enjoyed that Ivy and Jack dropped in to help. Rowan was mentioned and the future series with Harper, Ivy, Maddie and Rowan (maybe the others too) seems to be setting up.

Wow, totally unexpected twists!

This was a new type of challenge for Harper and Jared, but having Ivy and Jack along for the ride was exciting. I always love when the characters from other series mix together. More, please.
