A unique photo essay of the 47-year odyssey of the historic aircraft carrier USS Midway. More than 225,000 men served aboard the longest-serving carrier in U.S. Navy history. More than 200 never-before published photos taken by Midway sailors are featured. Midway Memories is a unique insight into a floating city at 4,500--sailing at the tip of America's sword.
I'm proud to be a New York Times bestselling author of nonfiction military thrillers. My upcoming book, The Brotherhood of the Flying Coffin (March 2, 2023), is the untold combat aviation story of World War II volunteer glider pilots. A Civil War biography, Surgeon in Blue, was a bestseller. Honor Before Glory takes readers on a riveting rescue mission by Japanese American soldiers and is in film development. And I'm always looking for ideas for my next book...
I got a signed copy of this at the Midway Museum in San Diego! The museum was fabulous and the book was fabulous. It was an eye opening experience. I’m working on a blog post that will highlight my whole adventure abroad the Midway!
Good picture book. Not as good as seeing the real thing in person, but it was a nice review for me after touring the ship last summer. The facts and figures quoted in the book are astounding. Aircraft carriers are simply amazing to ponder.
A very neat look at the Midway in intimate pictures of the history of those who sailed on the ship. It is nice to have visited the aircraft carrier in modern day and now to have seen images with explanations from first person perspective.
This was an interesting book it gave you lots of pictures and told the story about the USS Midway ship 🚢 and how long she was in service and about the different types of men on board the boat and all the different kinds of jobs. if you like history then you will like this book m
My sweet bride brought me this book from San Diego, where the USS Midway (CV-41) carries out her last mission: as a floating naval aviation museum. In words and photographs, the book tells the story of the ship from its commissioning in 1945 to its retirement in 2004. When it joined the fleet, it was the largest ship in the world and the first ship unable to transit the Panama Canal. It attempts to describe the life of the 225,000 men who served on board over 47 years of active duty. It even includes a recipe for 2000 servings of beef stew! This book stirred up a lot of nostalgia in an old salt.
