Of the three of us—me and my besties, Harper Finn and Avery English—I’ve always been the responsible one. But an open bar at a wedding is hard to resist. So is the gossip that flies after the bride is a no-show at the altar. Still, I never planned on leaving for the Bahamas as Rella Cabot and coming home to South Beach as Rella Cabot Thornton.
New wife of the jilted groom.
My to-do list now includes annulling blue-eyed, mind-numbingly handsome Pryce Thornton right out of my hair. As soon as I disabuse him of the notion that we should give this marriage thing a shot. And get my dog, Bruno, off his lap. And get my besties to stop swooning all over the place about impossible things like fated love. And, of course, call a lawyer.
Except the only lawyer we’re calling right now is Cruz Campion, because Pryce’s ex-fiancée has turned up dead. And he’s the prime suspect.
Deborah Brown is the author of the Paradise series, Crazy, Deception and Trouble Florida Keys mysteries, which makes the reader laugh, cry and cheer...
My personal ad would read:
There's nothing a new pair of shoes can't cure.
Redhead. Long legs. There's nothing like a strawberry-lemonade in summer. Favorite activity: Filling my pockets with seashells. An avid rule follower when eating Animal Cookies: Broken ones get eaten first, match up the rest, duplicates next, line them up favorite to not, least favorite go first. South Florida is my home, with my ungrateful rescue cats, and where Mother Nature takes out her bad attitude in the form of hurricanes.
Jilted by Deborah Brown is the third and final book in her Biscayne Bay mystery series. It was fun spending time with Harper, Avery, Grams and Rella again. This time the focus is on Rella who comes back from attending a beach wedding with a friend. Once back in Biscayne Bay the fun begins which a smoothly paced plot, suspects who are more than a little crazy, a few dramatic moments and a sweet ending for all of the characters.
Ok, first I want to say that I love the bond between the women in this book. However, and this is a huge however, there are some really big plot issues. Maybe I watch way too much Law & Order, but the whole murder case against Pryce is weak. His runaway bride was found on a boat he USED to own but no longer does and hasn't for years. That would be like me being accused of murder because a body was found in an apartment that I lived in 5 years ago but no longer have any access to. Oh, let's not forget that he has an alibi... it's probably not going to gain him any sympathy, but he was shacked up with his new bride who he picked up on the beach a couple hours after he was left at the alter. An established heiress that owns her own company and what amounts to a hotel is a pretty good alibi. Add that they were going at it like rabbits all weekend and it just became solid. So why does no one bring this up when he's arrested?
Then let's not forget the shenanigans. Yes, the women's friendship is a beautiful one to see, but come on! They barge in on newlyweds without knocking time and time again. I love my friends, but I would have changed the locks and installed deadbolts. And don't get me started on Gram. Come on now, get a rein on the woman. It's just not cute or funny anymore. A surprise forced wedding with guests they don't know while the groom is in the middle of the murder investigation of his most recent ex-fiance where he is the prime suspect. Yeah... this is the perfect time for this. She was cute in the first one, kind of pushing it by the second book, now her character is just downright annoying. And don't get me started on Rella who went from a sedate and reasonable professional to 00-nothing in the blink of an eye. The reasonable character was all of a sudden talking about wanting her own spy gear and set of lock picks. Seriously?
While the story concept was a pretty good one, good enough to hook me, as I kept reading, I started wondering if some of those plot holes would ever get filled. I did finish it though and I did not altogether hate it, so that's a plus.

I’ll start by saying I find Brown’s books fun, light-hearted, entertaining. I was excited for this series from her with new and interesting characters. The first two books in the series were a little stronger than this one. It felt like a lot of similarities between the storylines and how the main characters got into predicaments. It was nice to see Rella in a more relaxed mindset than in the first two books, but it was such a bug departure from her work first mindset that it didn’t really feel like the same character. I’m glad I finished the series, but probably wouldn’t read another in the Biscayne Bay series - I’ll wait for the next entertaining world from Brown.
Three friends, two adventuresome, one not. She’s the one who eloped with a guy she’d just met. At his wedding. Where he was left at the altar. There’s good and bad about this series, and it depends on your reading desires. Cute couples and interesting situations, but these three books read like they could’ve been written in the 50’s. Or are plots from I DREAM OF JEANNIE. This couple is married and no where do we even know if they’re even sleeping together, other than on their drunken wedding night. I’m sure there’s a market for this type of G rated books, and oddly enough I read all three of the books but I’m a serial book addict.
I absolutely love Rella and Pryce. At the end of Avery's book, we leaned Rella was going to a destination wedding with a big donor to her foundation. The wedding never happened. Then we learned Rella had a impromptu wedding with none other than the jilted groom. As we learn this, Pryce is arrested for the murder of his ex. I love the antics of these three best friends. They definitely keep their guys on their toes. Lol Great story again. A must read.
Rella goes to the islands for a wedding, the bride is a no show and Rella comes home with a groom. The jilted groom to be exact. Her new husband is arrested for the murder of the jilting bride and the race is on to see if the women can solve this murder before their male counterparts can do it. Hilarious fun all around, and I hope we can see more of these characters.
I saw an ad for this book, book 3, on social media. It looked interesting but I have to read a series in order so I worked my way through book 1 and 2. This was not a hardship, as they were great, but the third one is my favorite. The twists and turns keep you up all night reading. We'll done, I can't wait to see what else there is by this author.
A hurricane is nothing compared to the force of these 3. Rella going to a wedding and comes back married. Also headed to the courthouse to stand by her many charged with murder. Sound familiar-we meet the cast of characters as in Avery's story. Will they be able to clear him?
Wedding and Murder Don't Mix Well This book is the third book in a truly fun trilogy. All three are clean cozy mysteries with lots of romance. This episode has non-stop action and is a real page-turner. There is so much going on that I needed to go back and verify a few things several times. The ending was so much fun, but I hated to be done with the series.
I had a hard time relating to Rella or Pryce. The police arresting Pryce because body was found in boat he used to own seems really weak. Especially when they would not arrest Daniel after Rella was kidnapped. The police come off as not too intelligent. All the drama with Gram gets old.
Good mystery. Best romance novel ever! I really enjoyed this book, although at the beginning I found keeping track of the characters difficult. Once I had the players straight, I loved it.
This third book captures your heart! Gram is such a unique character I can't help wishing everyone deserves one! Kudos for heart pounding excitement and breath stealing friendships!
Deborah Brown is now one of my favorite writers! I love her books, and the characters are incredible! Her stories are very entertaining. Pick up one to read and you will get lost in South Florida!
The three books in this series are fantastic. Fast paced and full of excitement you fall madly in love with our heroines just like their heroes did. Highly recommended.
I am going through this series like I am on a binge. Deborah Brown writes a first rate mystery series, with lots of fast paced action mixed with good humor. I highly recommend these books.
To be honest more details on Rella's impromptu wedding would have been interesting reading. Loved the involvement of Gram. This was a roller coaster story...and know who one of his alibi cohorts, but who was the other?
This seems to be the last in this series - at the moment. Thoroughly enjoyed this romp and will hope for more to come! Very intriguing as always and I always look forward to a new adventure --please😁
I liked each book was about each friend. Each book had an intensity suspense mystery. The guys reminded me of another series with the lawyer Cruz. I was not crazy about the ending. Grams getting involved then happily ever after was short.
I really enjoyed this series. The trio of best friends are fun, entertaining, interesting in so many ways. I would recommend reading this book and the other two in the series.
I really enjoyed! This only the second book and I truly liked it! Again I love a bpok that reels me on from the get go 🤗 I am looking forward to another!
It was almost the same plot as book 2 do it was a very boring read and hard to stay with it. I even skipped parts. Probably should’ve just put it down but I hate not finishing books.
