I was reborn too weak to be an adventurer, so I opened an item shop by the dungeon instead!
Reborn into a fantastical RPG-system based world, Fresh is offered a second chance at life. Initially glad to have escaped her old existence, she quickly realizes that this new one might not be much better. Her new body is too frail to follow any grand dreams of adventure, her new mind is too dulled to allow any meticulous planning or thought and this new, seemingly colorful, kind world is anything but.
Needing to find a way to survive in this horrible place, Fresh bands together with some unusual people as she undergoes an entirely unexpected challenge; running an item shop just outside of the dungeon!
MC is a wet wool sock lying in the street. Not a pair, one single useless forlorn sock.
The first chapter can be summed up in a short sentence, which tells you how important it was. For all of the words in the chapter, there is hardly any substance.
Then the MC is transferred to the ‘game’ world and demonstrates a stunning lack of intelligence and basic competence.
I stopped reading because I don’t like the MC. I prefer an MC that demonstrates at least a *desire* for agency.
I wanted to give this 2 stars mainly due to the personalities of the main 2 characters and how they interact with each other.
The MC is dumb as a rock. Apparently when she was reborn in this world her goddess made her a couple fries short of a happy meal. Also, she is so dam whiny it drove me crazy.
The other main character Jubilee is kinda a dbag. Not overall, just mostly in the way he treats Fresh (MC’s name). It explains the reason for this why later in the book, but it doesn’t change the fact it made it hard to read.
I was super excited for the crafting aspect, but ended up being disappointed in how Vanilla it was. I wanted to delve into the process and see the author use some creativity, but no dice. The MC grabs two items and clicks a button and stuff is created. That’s is the sum of the crafting system. Normally to level crafting most authors have their characters refine the process through various means. Not here. The more you make the better you get. That’s it. Bleh.
I did like the dungeon diving, MC’s class and spells, and the slice of life aspect of the book. The main reason it got bumped up to 3 stars though was the ending. Took a story that was decaying and breathed some life into it.
Like other reviewers I had a hard time getting into this book. The main character really is too dumb and her "friend" mean enough to make it hard to respect either of them. The good news, it gets better after chapter 15 if you can just hang in there. Wasn't a huge fan of the whole story arch but it was really nice to read a litrpg that didn't have 80 pages of overly detailed fights or a weird power leveled character.
I had to imagine this as Japanese anime to appreciate the characters. Once I made that mental adjustment, though, this book was entertaining and amusing.
This author writes a good story and has a very interesting world. I like their work I just hate the Mc they have created. I listened to this as an audiobook and I already listen to most books at 3x's speed. For this book I wish there was a 5x's speed. I wanted to stop listening about 2hrs in because of the Mc's constant whining, complaining, doing such stupid things etc. I hope this first book is leading up to something better because just because a normal person is born in a new world doesn't mean they have to be a complete idiot. They can be competent and still do things wrong because it's a new world with different rules, customs, etc. To make a Mc that I want to kill doesn't seem productive. Just my opinion and maybe this author has found a way to make it work but I won't recommend this book to anyone. I returned my copy and unless I see some really good reviews on audible for the other books in this series I am going to pass on this series. I hope you write more because you are good but I just don't like this one.
charming, but with a lot of flaws. I think the ending was exciting but personally unsatisfying. The whole book could do with a rewrite to add more impact to the finale, which sort of just happened in the last few chapters.
I was hooping the characters' awful personalities would develop as they became better people...they didn't. Maybe it will happen in later books.
The story is very interesting. I love it. The only problem is, I've never wanted to punch an arsehole in the face so much. All the second character does is put down the heroine. Non stop insults putting down the mc as if she is shit under their shoe and has a glassy eyed stare with drool dripping down the side of their mouth. I want to give the mc a knife and hold her hand to stab them and ditch them on the side of the road so she can free herself from a toxic bitch.

A 23hr audio book. So mush I hated about this book, Every 5 mins was another "As if" reference, or a comparison to something else, beyond annoying. More annoying was how, unintelligent the MC acted, she just could not help but do the wrong thing. Overall, I did enjoy the story, I think it could have been a lot better but I would give the next book a chance and it kept my attention enough through for 23hrs, so yeah 7/10 for me.
While I admit to being a common reader, and don't often find books that cause me to greatly dislike the author. Well this book did exactly that. I find the main protagonist to be ultra dumb stupid and annoying. I do think it is a niche read, so at least someone will like it. I hope the author comes up with a better premise in future books.
Made it to about 7% before giving up. Yes, that soon... The writing is uninspired, the MC is a wet rag and seems to be just oblivious to about everything. Also, the "for occultist" stuff at the end of some of the pages is just terrible. Yes I can skip it sure, but it doesn't add anything to the story itself. It seems to be a hobby of the author or something.
Got the audio book free as part of my Audible subscription.
Target audience might be younger than I am (grain of salt); the main character's childish behavior is somewhat grating at times that almost made me stop listening, but there's definitely some charm and dark intrigue here that makes me want to continue the series.
Unfortunately, even though the story starts out very strong, it loses steam very quickly. But I think the main issue is the main characters constant whining gets really, really irritating. I just kept wishing for a pov shift to get away from her by the end.
Clever and thoughtful criticisms/insights hidden beneath evocative imagery and characterizations. Can also easily be read as nothing more than face value, with humorous highs and thoroughly distressing lows. Satisfyingly mysterious but natural feeling magic and a fitting ending.
A puppet of MC. Don't really know why finished it at all or why decided to listed for second instalment. Maybe because as annoying as MC you still get dragged into her little world
I enjoyed the occultist notes almost more than the story. Some of the writing was a bit abrasive but perhaps that’s their understanding of friendship. Worth a read.
the beginning and middle were a little boring, but the plot twist kind of got me. I want to listen to the second one to see how I feel about the series.
This author is really good at writing serious dark fantasy when they want to, but for some reason decides to make the main character act like a 5 year old on a 90s sitcom and unable to speak a coherent sentence. It's baffling.
